Protecting Your Family’s Inheritance
Probus Club The monthly meeting of Shepshed Probus Club was held at J23 Restaurant on Monday 5th November when our chairman Mr Lister welcomed members and our speakers. After prayers and Stan’s funny stories a pleasant 4 course lunch was enjoyed by all after which one of the speakers assistants handed out cards and literature in relation to Mr Clive Langley of P.S.A. (Financial Services) Ltd giving us a very interesting talk on looking after our money, especially in later life. If you are wanting to do something with your finances, find a reputable adviser who will come out to you if you find it difficult to get into their offices but do not respond to cold callers on the telephone or on the doorstep. The 2014 Care Act governs your money if you go into a home and you have over £14,000 in cash and a property. To prevent government taking it all you need to put your money into Investment Bonds or a Trust and property should be put into joint ownership, not just shared as most people do. After Clive’s initial talk he introduced Christine Thomas, a consultant in Legal Services Ltd. She spoke about Lasting Power of Attorney, Trusts and Wills. She also deals with funeral plans and she will come out to you to help you get all your legal and financial services in order. After an interesting talk the club showed it’s appreciation and the chairman reminded everyone that the Probus Christmas lunch will be held on Sunday 16th December and he also asked for raffle prizes.

Most people hope that their estate will pass on to their children and grandchildren eventually. But this will not happen for many, unless careful arrangements have been made to protect their assets from being taken towards the end of their life to pay for care home fees. The solution to help protect your estate is a Will incorporating a Property Protection Trust (PPT).
Dan And Will Brave The Shave And Raise Over £250 For Macmillan Cancer Support A razor-sharp duo from the Nottingham Building Society proved they are a cut above in raising over £250 for Macmillan Cancer Support by shedding their locks in-branch. Dan Spendlow, Cluster Manager for Shepshed, Loughborough, Rothley and Syston, and Syston-based Customer Services Consultant Will Dewick braved the shave at the Shepshed branch, watched by many interested members and passers-by.
Driving Home For Christmas With many people embarking on long journeys to visit friends and family over the Christmas period, we’re urging you not to ignore one key preparation: ensuring your eyes are road-ready. The warning follows new research revealed that over a third of people struggle to read road signs while driving, a problem made worse in wintery conditions when visibility is lower and the days get darker earlier. Driving with poor vision can have disastrous and sometimes, fatal consequences with research estimating vision related accidents result in 2,900 casualties each year. Top tips to keep you safe on the road this Christmas: 1. Are you in the over 40, age bracket? After the age of 40, your eyesight can decline without you even noticing and it’s essential that if you are in this age bracket, or have any concerns about your eyesight, that you have regular eye checks. People sometimes delay going for a test because they’re in denial and may even be scared of losing their license. It’s hard to accept that your eyesight might have deteriorated, particularly when driving, but don’t take the risk this Christmas. 2. Keep up to date Regularly check your own eyesight by testing if you can read a number plate from 20 metres away. You can get busy at Christmas and getting an eye test can feel like the furthest thing from your mind but you should always wear an up-todate pair of glasses or contact lenses while driving, if they are needed 3. Lenses and coatings Don’t use tinted lenses for night driving and if possible, have an anti-reflection coating on your spectacles If you are unsure about how good your vision is or you have not been for a recent eye test, book an appointment with your optometrist. For more information on eye health and eye conditions, call or visit Ryatt Optometry, Tel: 01509 503344, www.ryattoptometry.co.uk
A testamentary PPT can only be executed whilst both partners remain alive. Upon death of the first partner, their Will specifies that their share of the property is placed into trust and names the ultimate beneficiary of this share, normally the children and grandchildren of the deceased. The surviving partner, under the terms of the Trust, has the unequivocal right to remain living in the property for the rest of their life. On the death of the second partner the Trust comes to an end and the property passes to the beneficiaries. As the surviving partner does not own the deceased's share of the property it is fully protected for the beneficiaries, so if the surviving partner requires care, or even remarries, this share of the children's inheritance is protected. This last point can be of particular interest to couples who have come together and have children from different partners. A PPT can help each person in a relationship ensure that their children inherit their share of the property, while giving their surviving partner the ability to live in the property for the rest of their life. If the surviving partner wants to move to another property they can still sell the property and the proceeds be used to purchase a new property; the terms of the Trust remain over the new property. Kornerstone Legal services will assess your current circumstances and arrange the trust that will provide the best protection for you, your family and your assets.
Thank You! I would like to thank the person who handed in my purse that was left in the car park at Shepshed. From a very grateful pensioner.

Shepshed History Society
Hathern Band Upcoming Events
On November 13th an excellent and extremely interesting talk was given to the Shepshed History Society by Mrs Julie Ede, her subject being the life and adventures of the enigmatic Gabriel 'Coco'Chanel.Who was famous for not only her No.5 Chanel perfume, she was also a very famous jewellery and fashion designer, her main claim to fame was abolishing the confines of corsets for women. The resulting fashions being a lot more loose fitting and shorter which in turn made clothes a lot more comfortable.
Hathern Christmas Tree Festival Sunday 9th December, 4:30pm, Hathern Church (GROUP)
She began life in 1883 as an illegitimate daughter in France and started life in a workhouse, then went on to an orphanage. However, struggling to make a better life for herself as she grew up, she deliberately seduced many aristocrats which in turn enabled her to set herself up in the fashion business. A world famous business which flourished for a great many years, she even designed clothes for the famous American film stars. A chain smoker all her life and having an insatiable taste for champagne she still managed to live until she was 88, dying in 1971. A brilliant talk, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Over a £1,000 pounds had been raised and will be donated to local good causes SRC's Richard Bibb said "This is the 18th running of our annual race, our aim, of course is to promote our Club and our sport, but if we can help local community groups as well, then that's a added bonus." New Lounge Officially Opened Nottingham Community Housing Association provides support for people with mental health needs across Leicestershire and the East Midlands including Shepshed. Michelle Edwards, the Centre Manager, approached Shepshed Lions Club late last year to see if they could help with the cost of refurbishing the lounge, and the Club were pleased to do so by making a donation of £250. The grand opening of the room was held on Friday 19th October. Michelle said, "After getting the lounge smartened up, we felt it was only right to ask the Lions and other people who support us to come and see what we have done. We provide support for up to 11 people at a time here at Bridge Street. The service is a stepping stone for people to understand their mental wellbeing and regain the confidence and skills needed to live independently in the community. The lounge is where we hold support sessions, meetings, group activities and socialise together. All of these things are important for our tenants, and we are really pleased that the lounge now feels so much more homely and not simply a large space. We are very grateful to the Lions for making this possible." Lion Bill Holland said, "Michelle and everyone here have made great use of the money they were given. All of the people here at Bridge Street are part of our community, and we were delighted to help, especially when we come along and get treated to such delicious homemade cakes."
Senior Citizens Luncheon
On Saturday 20th October 2018 Shepshed Lions Club entertained 55 Senior Citizens at their 5th Annual Luncheon at the Glenmore Centre, Thorpe Road, Shepshed, They were treated to a 3 course lunch with a choice of two starters, two main courses and two desserts. Silence fell across the room as the very serious matter of Bingo commenced with lucky winners taking the prizes. Music was provided and a free raffle ticket was given to everyone who attended. This ever popular annual event is aimed at those Senior Citizens who are lonely and do not get out and about very often. We received very many positive comments about the event from those who attended the luncheon. Lion President Bob Lilley said, “ We really enjoy this event for the Senior Citizens in our community. It is hard work but that pales into insignificance when we see the smiling faces of those who attended”.
Classic Cole Porter Musical Sailing Into Shepshed At The End Of January Laden with the beautiful music of Cole Porter, and the romance and elegance of the period, Anything Goes is a classic musical, and one which has stood the test of time with numerous runs on Broadway & London’s West End. John Barrowman launched his illustrious career in the 1987 version, which also starred among others, Elaine Paige and Bernard Cribbins. Renowned local youth theatre, ACT One is sailing the show back into Shepshed’s Iveshead Theatre from 30 January for 5 performances only, having performed the show back in 2007. For those of you that have seen before you’ll know that the show contains many well-known songs including “Blow Gabriel Blow”, “All Through The Night”, “It’s Delovely”, “Friendship” and, of course the title song “Anything Goes”, with it’s big tap-routines. ACT One’s version is a previous revised version and also includes “Take Me Back To Manhattan”, and “Let’s Misbehave”, among others. The story is set aboard the S. S. American ocean liner, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Bonnie. With the help of some elaborate disguises and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart. Oliver Halford teams up with Olivia Needham to play Billy & Reno respectively, with Isabel Morris & Alex Lesson as Hope & Sir Evelyn. Moonface Martin & sidekick, Bonnie are portrayed by Will Savage & Mia Champneys-Davis. Nicola Coles is Mrs. Harcourt, Hope’s battle-axe of a mother, and Ryan Moreland and Noah Baguley team up as Captain and Purser. Reno’s supporting singers and dancers, otherwise known as her Angels, are sisters Josie & Katie Ince, with Scarlett Robinson and Millie-Mae Clarke, with Kyle Cornwell taking on the role of Billy’s on-off boss, Elisha J Whitney. Tickets for the show are available priced £11 & £9 from the Box Office on 07779 108743. Don’t miss the boat….!
Diabetes Awareness Day
Shepshed Lions Club, in conjunction with Field Street Surgery and Diabetes UK is planning a Diabetes Awareness Day to be held at Field Street Surgery, Shepshed. A date is yet to be confirmed for the event. The hope is that as many people attend the session that involves a short non-intrusive screening questionnaire to identify people who may be at risk of developing Diabetes in the future. At the last event about 60% of those who attended were found to be at a higher risk of developing this terrible and sometimes fatal disease. Research has shown that there are about 500,000 people in the UK who have Diabetes and are not aware of it. The event is free of charge and is strictly confidential. Diabetes is one of the biggest killer diseases but can easily be avoided by small changes in lifestyle or diet. When the date is confirmed it will be advertised widely in the town.
Defibrillator Project Still Continues
The Shepshed Lions Club Community First Responder project “ CPR and Defibrillators- Dispel the Myths” is still going strong. We have fitted another Community Public Access Defibrillator (CPAD) on the wall of the Outwoods Pharmacy, 18, Derwent Drive, Loughborough. The funding for this came from the Nanpantan Ward Residents Group and was supported by Councillor Margaret Smidowicz. This is the tenth CPAD put into the community in Shepshed and Loughborough by the Shepshed Lions Club Community First Responders. The CPAD is linked to the East Midlands Ambulance Service dispatch system for immediate use in the community if necessary.

Shepshed Soldier Honoured In France A Shepshed soldier was honoured at the centenary commemoration in the town of Fresnoy-le-Grand in northern France on 11 November. He was Sgt James (Jim) Whitworth of 5th Battalion the Leicestershire Regiment, part of the force that broke through the Hindenburg line and crossed the St.Quentin canal at the end of September 1918. On 29th September 1918 Jim and his men captured a large number of Germans and some guns that were bombarding the allied advance. Jim’s battalion moved forward to Fresnoy where they were billeted for some days during which time at a ceremonial parade on 26th October he was decorated with the French Croix de Guerre medal and silver star for gallantry on the field of battle by General Louis Francois Mathieu.
Shepshed Remembrance Service
Thank you to everyone who attended Shepshed's Remembrance service. Many thanks to the volunteers taking the photographs on the day. Robert Bramley, Cecil Scott and Sue Hutton
Jim was born in Shepshed on 28th July, 1896, the third child of James and Laura Whitworth. According to his mother he was a mischievous little boy, full of life and always had a cheeky smile. Jim was brought up in Shepshed and attended the Church of England primary school. Jim joined the army at 18 years of age and his regiment sailed for France in February 1915. The Battalion spent several months in Armentieres and in the Ypres Salient, moving on to fight at Loos, the Hohenzollern Redoubt, Passchendaele, and on the Somme. Like all the other soldiers Jim endured the hell of trench warfare; often cold, soaked to the skin, hungry, wallowing in mud, and at the mercy of shells, snipers and mustard gas. The effects of mustard gas inhalation plagued him for the rest of his life. After the Armistice the regiment remained in France until June 1919. Then one evening in the Richmond at Shepshed Jim passed his medal round the pub but when it was returned to him the ribbon and silver star were missing. It remained in this state for almost 100 years. Pauline Haycock, Jim’s niece, who has been researching this story, decided to visit the St. Quentin Canal and retrace her uncle’s movements in the area. She finally did this last May and while she was sitting in the square where her uncle had been decorated, she had the thought of going into the Town Hall and asking for help with her research. The result was that the Town suggested that if Jim’s medal were to be returned to France, they would get it restored and then it could be re-presented, symbolically, to a descendant of his at the commemoration on 11th November. Pauline was also asked to give a talk about her uncle. Ten members of Jim’s family made the trip to France. During the ceremony in the square the Croix de Guerre complete with ribbon and silver star was re-presented to Jim’s grandson, Gary Whitworth, by Colonel Scailteux and Pauline was awarded the Town’s medal, presented by the mayor, for her research. A choir consisting of children from the primary and secondary schools then sang Tipperary (in English), God Save the Queen, and the Marseillaise. Next, a parade made its way to the British cemetery the resting place 64 British servicemen, where wreaths were laid on the memorial and the children placed a rose on each grave. After the parade there was a reception in the community hall where children sang Tipperary again and Pauline read a poem.

Your Conservative Borough Councillors have been working with residents, CBC anti-social behaviour team and the police to sort out this problem, but as with everything there is a procedure to follow and this all takes time. Dog Fouling It is the time of year when we see an increase of dog faeces on public footpaths and walkways. Please remember whether it is light or dark it is still an offence which can incur an hefty fine for not clearing up after your dog.
MP Nicky Morgan
T: 01509 262723 E: nicky.morgan.mp@parliament.uk First a huge congratulations to everyone involved in the Christchurch Gilbert & Sullivan’s production of The Mikado. It was a fabulous, cheerful and energetic performance that I attended and a real antidote to a rather grey day outside. I know that each production involves many rehearsals and much preparation so thank you again to the whole cast and crew for all their work. Amazingly it is time for all the Christmas Tree Festivals again. The festival at St Botolph’s runs from Friday 30 November - Sunday 2 December and is arranged by the Rotary Club of Shepshed. I am always impressed by the creativity and ingenuity shown by all the exhibitors. I have a tree which appears in various festivals across the constituency and this year I’m delighted to say that my beautiful decorations have been provided by pupils at Iveshead School. They really do look very special and I’m very grateful to them for all their hard work. I shall be putting pictures on my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. Since my last Shepshed Eye column the Chancellor has announced his Budget. I spoke early on in the Budget debate, as Chair of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee and was very pleased to organise a Budget Briefing breakfast with Loughborough Chamber of Trade & Commerce and to support the FSB’s Think Self-Employed campaign with a roundtable at Loughborough University. In Westminster as well as speaking about the Budget I’ve been meeting the Chief Medical Officer to discuss Vitamin B12, adding my voice to calls for a further debate about ME/CFS, meeting our Regional Schools Commissioner to discuss various local school issues and hosting a reception for the National Forest. Finally, the big Westminster event will be the vote in the House of Commons, expected mid-December, on the Prime Minister’s draft agreement with the EU to withdraw the UK from the EU and the framework of our future relationship with the EU. I know that Brexit arouses strong views in many folk in Shepshed and elsewhere. I hear very strong views from all sides of the debate – those who are happy to leave with no deal, those who don’t want to leave at all, those who want a second vote, those who don’t care and just want some progress made so we can move on to discuss the many other issues facing the UK. Please do continue to share your thoughts with me. For what it is worth I believe that no agreement will ever satisfy everyone, that we do need to move on to focus on the many other challenges we have as a country and that the draft agreement takes the UK out of the EU whilst not fatally undermining our economy and people’s jobs.
It has been brought to our notice that children are taking their dogs into the fenced off play areas. These areas have been fenced round for the safety of children and to keep dogs out. Please ensure that your children are made aware of the dangers of allowing dogs in these areas.Very small children can be frightened by dogs and fouling carries with it a disease which can see a child blinded if any faeces gets into their eyes. It is also very unpleasant for both children and adults to have to clean dog dirt off their shoes and clothing. Red Bins The Rotary Club of Shepshed Charnwood have put a new red bin on the Glenmore Park car park. This is for the collection of Aluminium cans for the charity “Hellipads for Hospitals”. A Charity close to heart of the Air Ambulance crews and staff. Please use this bin to raise funds for this very good cause. All your Borough Councillors opposed the removal of the Charnwood Borough Council “ Bring” sites at a meeting held earlier this year. We are pleased that Shepshed Town Council have allowed this red bin to be put on their Glenmore Park car park. Empty Homes Following on from the report last month CBC have just announced a consultation on an empty homes premium on all residences which have been empty for over two years. A premium to the current council tax will hopefully encourage owners of empty homes to bring them back into use. For more information go to: www.charnwood.gov.uk/ctconsultation
Shepshed & District Camera Club The Christmas break for the members of Shepshed and District Camera Club starts in a couple of weeks time after a busy second part of the autumn term. Recently two of the clubs members, Chairman Alan Harris and Secretary Chris Coxon, each presented an evening, both of which were thoroughly enjoyed by the members.
Christmas Lights Loughborough’s Christmas lights will be switched-on on Sunday 25th November and will be on for all of the festive season. There is a programme of festive events being held in the town centre. Go to Charnwood Borough web site for a detailed programme of events.
For the first time the club visited the club at Keyworth for a competition in which each club entered 25 images and the judge, Phil Howcroft, awarded each image a mark up to 20 points. Whilst not winning overall it turned out to be a very entertaining event and with a chance for Shepsheds members to meet other photographers from the local area.
On-Going Issues Planning and Anti-Social behaviour (majority of it confidential) is still taking up a large amount of our time. Do not hesitate to contact us should you have issues you wish to discuss with us.
The local professional wildlife photographer Des Ong entertained the club and members of the general public with an excellent presentation of some of his images taken as far afield as Iceland, Norway, Scotland, England, Madagascar and Indonesia in mid November, many of which can be found on his website at www.desong.co.uk
We shall continue to hold our regular monthly surgery on the FIRST Saturday of the month in the Town Council offices, Charnwood Road, from 10-11am. No appointments are necessary. The final league competition of the year took place in early November and the Open Subject class for prints was won by Chris Coxon with his print entitled ‘Perhaps’. The class for projected images, the subject being ‘Transport/Industrial’ was won by Alan Harris with his image entitled ‘Steam and Metal’. The overall winners of the Competition League will be announced at the annual dinner taking place later this month and then meetings recommence on 6th.January at the Council Offices in Charnwood Road.

County Cllr Christine Radford T: 01509 502974 M: 07796 544817 E: christine_radford@hotmail.com
I would like to wish everybody a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you have been trying to contact me over November, sorry but I have been away on holiday in South Africa and will have hopefully contacted you by now, if not please get back to me. As your County Councillor, I am always on hand to try and deal with any concerns you may have about services provided by Leicestershire County Council. Such as street lighting, highways, footpaths, overhanging trees and hedges onto the highways/footpaths, social services etc. Winter Service Review Following the extreme winter weather of 2017/18 County did 15 days of 24/7 running due to snow conditions, they used 20,000 tonnes of winter grit and filled 1,300 salt bins. The budget for this was £1,628,796 but County spent £2,618,438. 3 New gritters have been ordered and 6 gritters have gone in for refurbishment. The Salt has already been ordered and delivered ready for this coming winter. In fact the gritters have already gone out on a number of occasions. (End of October). Following the success last year when a new gritter was named. (Gritterthaurus) Another chance to name the 3 new ones will be going out to schools in Leicestershire in the New Year. I am pleased to report, following many years of my asking Anson Road will now be gritted as will Loughborough Road/Forest Street. To get up to date about highway issues you can follow on the County Council’s twitter feed: www.twitter.com/LeicsCountyHall
across Leicestershire such as leadership and coordination, communications campaigns and potential improvement to delivery of existing services. The Council and our public sector partners are already doing a great deal: for example the day-to-day work of our social workers supporting vulnerable children, adults and families; blue lights services working to keep people safe; their network of local area coordinators who are actively connecting people within communities; and County’s trading standards team working to protect vulnerable people being taken advantage of. Every time County connects with someone it makes a difference. However, this is not something County can do alone and fortunately there are some amazing volunteers and community groups in Leicestershire and Shepshed that are already doing a huge amount of good work to tackle loneliness and isolation, including community connection projects for older people, good neighbour schemes, local groups to cater to a wide range of interests, such as Age UK’s men in sheds, Kirkhill Luncheon Club, Silver Circle, Baptist Ladies , the 2013 Club (Used to be known as the Stroke Club) and the Glenmore Centre luncheon club (who are desperate for volunteers}. ‘Start A Conversation’ - Suicide Prevention Campaign Death from suicide has devastating consequences for family, friends and colleagues. There are on average 55 deaths from suicide each year in Leicestershire and it remains the biggest killer of men under 50 and the leading cause of death in young people. Covering Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and working in partnership with a number of organisations from a variety of sectors from the community, the ‘Start A Conversation’ campaign launched on World Suicide Prevention Day in September. The aim is to make sure that people are aware of the warning signs of suicidal behaviour and have an open and honest approach to conversations. The campaign also seeks to:
Snow Wardens Last winter was one of the most severe on record; it put pressure on County’s resources meaning they were unable to treat footpaths. The County Council is working with parish and town councils to encourage people to sign up to their Snow Ward scheme. The scheme is intended to provide a more reliable arrangement for clearing key local footpaths during prolonged severe weather and allows County to concentrate on treating major routes.
• Remove stigmas and myths and make it ok to have conversations about suicide • Provide information and advice to individuals at crisis point • Build safer communities through awareness raising • Help people maintain good mental health • Support those who have been bereaved by suicide
Anybody interested in volunteering will receive training and advice on clearing snow and ice safely. They will also be provided with protective clothing, a shovel, brush and wheelbarrow. Anybody interested in volunteering please register your interest by contacting the Town Council.
HS2 Update I am still attending regular meetings of the various HS2 Boards, the mitigation board and the Environmental Board. Leicestershire needs to make sure that when looking at the impact around Toton the impact around junction 24 and the need to make sure that connectivity to this area are taken into account, if not a golden opportunity will have been lost.
Gritting In Summer Since the beginning of July, the highways team have dusted more than 25 locations across the county. It is the first time for a number of years the highway teams have had to carry out dusting using modified gritters. However, the impact of the joint hottest summer on record has caused longer term damage to our roads here in Leicestershire and throughout the country. Do You Live Near A Watercourse, Ditch Or Brook? You may or may not be aware that the majority of ordinary (smaller) watercourses are actually the responsibility of the riparian landowner (owner of land/property next to a watercourse/ditch) to maintain, This includes clearing the watercourse of any debris/rubbish (such as leaf litter, branches, waster material) and maintaining the flow (keeping water moving). There is often the belief that the Council are responsible for maintaining ditches, watercourses etc., next to the highway. The Council maintain such watercourse in a few incidences however the majority are riparian owned. Common law places a duty on the owner of land adjacent to a highway to maintain any ditches which function as natural drainage for the land and also as part of the highway drainage. It is also important to not throw anything into the watercourse such as grass cutting, leaf litter etc., as this could get washed downstream and could cause blockages that can result in localised flooding. If you are unsure whether you may be a riparian landowner or would like further information then please visit www.gov.uk/guidance/owning-a-watercourse or contact flooding@leics.gov.uk . Tackling Loneliness and Social Isolation There is increasing evidence and awareness that loneliness and social isolation has an impact on people’s physical and mental health, wellbeing and independence. This has led to concerns that loneliness and social isolation is having a negative impact on people, communities and the demand for public services. Over the next few months, the County Council will be working with the University of Leicester and other partners to:• Develop better understanding of the nature, extent and impact of loneliness and social isolation on people, communities and public services through collation of evidence from Council data and surveys and discussions with services, partners and community organisations. • Consider the role the Council can play in tackling loneliness and social isolation

Bradgate Park I have now done 9 years as a Trustee at Bradgate Park and have had to step down. I found this very interesting and was surprised at the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. I shall of course still visit the park with my granddaughter as I have always done, I know that it is well used by residents of Shepshed where for £3 all day parking you can go as a family, take a picnic, do rock climbing, go fishing and walk. Tickow Lane - Closure I am afraid I must report that the closure of Tickow Lane is to continue until 21st December. I have written to County expressing my concerns amount the length of time this has been closed and have asked that no further extension is given. My major concerns have been that it has not been easy for myself or members of the public to keep an eye on what is happening in the area such as the hedges being cut down etc. Resident Raised Concerns Main complaints this month have been about overgrown hedges and trees causing problems to pedestrians. I also receive a number of letters from residents who wish to remain anonymous, can I assure you that if possible I will take up the issues mentioned, such as noisy neighbours, overgrown hedges etc., In some cases without having more information I am unable to take it further. Buses - residents in the new estate on Buttercup Fields have contacted me regarding their concerns about the possibility of buses going into this new estate. (This might have been part of the planning permission) At the time of going to press I have not received any information from either County or Charnwood regarding their concerns. It is ironic but other areas of Shepshed are crying out for buses to go down their road. Your Help Again I would like to thank the residents who keep me informed regarding issues around Shepshed, such as overgrown hedges, litter, dog mess etc., without your eyes and ears I could not get them reported and sorted. For help and advice on County matters, I can be contacted on 502974 or e mail christine_radford@hotmail.com or christine.radford@leics.gov.uk or come along to my monthly Surgery on the FIRST Saturday of the month in the Town Council Offices, 47a Charnwood Road 10-11am. No appointment is necessary.
