Shepshed Ramblers The photos of Shepshed Ramblers were taken on its annual walking weekend away which this year was in and around Paignton over the first May Bank Holiday weekend. The party totalled 46 of which two thirds were regular walkers. The group walked for about 7 miles on Saturday from Broadsands to Dartmouth and crossed the River Dart by ferry in time for a cup of tea before being coached back to Paignton. The walk on Sunday was through Lydford Gorge which was a delight with lots of bluebells and waterfalls The next walk is a 6 – 7 mile circular on Sunday 17 June and takes in Locko Park, Spondon. Walkers should meet in Shepshed Market Place for a 09.30 departure returning between 2.00 and 3.00 pm. Walkers should carry a coffee break and lunch. If you are interested in joining us either on 17th June or in the future please give either Margaret or Bernie a call on 01509 600510 or 01509 828328 for further information. A warm welcome is guaranteed.

Shepshed Probus Club Meeting The latest meeting of Shepshed Probus Club was held on 14th May at Junction 23 restaurant, slightly later than usual because of the May Bank Holiday. The meeting was opened by the club President Horace Lister, and our secretary Wilf Shelton gave out the notices after which our resident joker Stan White regaled us with his amusing stories. After an enjoyable lunch our speaker Lt. Cdr. Tim Oaten RN Rtd was introduced who then gave a talk about the Battle of Jutland. The battle was started accidentally on 31st May 1916 at 2.28pm. The British had been training for action long before the war began and the morale of the ships crews was kept high by the loyalty of the men to Admiral Sir John Jellicoe. Commanded by Admiral Jellicoe the British fleet sailed from Scapa Flow, Cromarty Firth and Rosyth with Jellicoe commanding the ships from Scapa Flow, and Admiral Beatty, under Jellicoe, commanded the ships from Cromarty and Rosyth, all sailing east to meet off the Jutland Bank. German Admiral Scheer with second in command Admiral Hipper sailed early the following morning to intercept the British fleets. Visibility was critical with low levels of fog and smoke laid down by the ships of both countries. Radio communication between ships was still in it’s infancy so Aldi’s lights and signal flags were relied upon a lot. German gunnery was more effective than the British and a fault the British instigated was to keep the magazine door into the gun open to speed up the delivery of shells from magazines to guns. This caused catastrophic explosions in the gun chamber and magazine. The battle lasted 6 hours and 8 minutes. In that time the British lost 14 ships and 6097 men whilst the Germans lost only 11 ships and 2551 men. The Germans claimed a great victory and Jellicoe was slated but what is forgotten is that he achieved what was asked of him which was to drive the German fleet back to port and Jutland became the only battle between capital ships. Churchill was very disparaging saying that Jellicoe was the only man from either side who could lose the war in an afternoon which was very unfair because the Germans never came out of port again. If you are interested in joining the club, please contact our secretary Wilf Shelton on 01509 769802.

Could you please remind people that Shepshed Cemetery Gates are locked at 7:00pm every evening, including through the summer months – the gates are unlocked at 9:00am.

Shepshed History Society Dr John Sutton was the speaker invited on May 8th in order to entertain the Shepshed History Society, the subject being 'The 1914 Christmas Truce'. Dr Sutton first began his talk by explaining that many battles over time called a truce and socialised with one another. In fact a lot of soldiers both allies and enemies were comrades in arms. It was the bureaucrats that made them hated enemies. And so in 1914 several days before Christmas the soldiers socialised, sang carols together and even when the fighting resumed they helped one another to bury their dead. There is however no record that they actually played football as folk lore would have you believe. Numerous slides were shown and it was an intriguing insight learning about our tragic past, a talk that was most thought provoking in the hope that it will never again be repeated. The June meeting has had a change of speaker and Mr Mark Temple will be coming on the 12th June to speak about 'The Lost Windmills of Leicestershire.' New visitors are always welcome at the Glenmore Community Centre for 7.30pm-9.00pm.

Shepshed Labour Councillor Surgeries Are held on the second Saturday of each month at Shepshed Town Council offices in Charnwood Road from 11am until 12 noon. Labour Councillors would love to meet you and help you deal with any issues that you may have. All Shepshed residents are welcome. If you unable to come along please telephone 01509 277012 and we will do our best to help.

Hi guys‌.Timmy here from PartySaveSmile.co.uk!

Shepshed Lions Club News Shepshed Lions Club Working With Diabetes UK Shepshed Lions Club is embarking on another project in support of our community. Four members of the club will be trained by Diabetes UK to undertake a screening programme to try and identify risk factors for people who may develop Diabetes. The statistics from Diabetes UK show that there are in excess of half a million members of the public who may have diabetes but it is as yet undiagnosed. If untreated, diabetes can result in loss of limbs and in extreme cases cause premature death. The screening in a non -intrusive method of identifying potential risks factors that may lead to the development of diabetes. After the screening is complete any risks that are identified will be discussed with the patient and advised to visit their GP at their local surgery. This project is being undertaken in conjunction with Field Street Surgery, Diabetes UK and Shepshed Lions Club.

Shepshed Special Community Bus Shepshed Special Community Bus started back in 1985 where representatives from caring organisations and potential user groups unanimously endorsed the view that a community bus was a vital need for Shepshed. There are a number of long standing groups in Shepshed that have been expressly set up to help and support the elderly, disabled and other groups: Glenmore Lunch Club, Kirkhill Lunch Club, 2013 Club and Silver Circle. The bus is also available to hire by other groups of the community. Many users of the Community Bus cannot get into a normal car, mini bus or use public transport, therefore, our Community Bus which has a tail lift is a lifeline for so many passengers that would normally feel isolated and lonely. PHOTO: Lion Bill Holland and Lion President Bob Lilley present the cheque to Jacob Ward, Luke Shuttleworth and Oliver Warrington. Lions Support Local School Three pupils at St Botolph's CE Primary School in Shepshed, Luke Shuttleworth, Oliver Warrington, and Jacob Ward, have decided to raise money to replace the gravel surfaces on the school's ball court and trim trails with astro-turf, with the idea of making them usable in all weathers and encouraging pupils to get out and do sport. Among the people they wrote to were Shepshed Lions, and they responded with a £250 donation, which Lion President Bob Lilley presented after assembly at the school on Monday 14th May. Head Teacher Emma Pepper said, "Re-surfacing these areas will be a massive improvement, and help us to achieve our aim of providing the best possible facilities for our pupils. What is particularly impressive is that Luke, Oliver and Jacob are in their final year at St Botolph's, and so won't benefit personally from the improvements they are working towards, so very well done to them. Well done also to the Lions, for responding so quickly to the appeal." Lion President Bob Lilley said, "Shepshed Lions raise almost all of our funds from local people, and most of what we raise goes back into the local community. We are pleased to support St Botolph's School, and reward the initiative shown by Luke, Oliver and Jacob." Shepshed Lions Club Needs Your Help Shepshed Lions Club is looking to find a number of people in the community who may wish to help at their fundraising events in the future. You must be over 18years of age, of good character and be willing to fit in with a great team to achieve amazing things in our community.

The Community Bus also offers shopping trips to Morrisons, Shepshed Co-Op, Loughborough Market and always open to any other places the community would like to visit. We are also putting on trips, our latest one to Staunton Harold was a great success and the passengers thoroughly enjoyed it, we are organising a trip to Woodlands Nurseries next and we have a drive through Bradgate Park organised for Thursday 19th July. We have just launched a monthly cash draw to help fund the Community Bus and anybody can be a member of it, the cost is £12.00 per year and will be drawn monthly, please contact Alison if your interested in supporting us for more information. We are an independent organisation and all cheques should be made payable to “Shepshed Special Community Bus” and all correspondence to the office based at Shepshed Town Council 47a Charnwood Road, we are not part of the Volunteer Centre. We are currently fundraising for a replacement MPV as ours is getting very tired and costly and we are planning a local show in October to support this which we will tell you about later. The Community Bus relies on continuous use, fundraising and kind donations to keep it going. Individual efforts in helping to swell the funds are also welcome by the committee and we are appealing to the public for widespread support. Anyone who can help in any way can contact the Shepshed Special Community Bus based at the Town Council Building, 47a Charnwood Road 8.30 until 12.30 daily or phone 0n 01509 650531. If anybody would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact Alison or pop in our door is always open.

As you will know we have two major events each year in our Annual Charity Carnival, and also with our ever -popular Santa Sleigh Collection. Both of these events are labour intensive. We are looking to find people who may not wish to become a member of the club, but willing to help with these events. We are looking for able -bodied people who want to help in the community. If you think you could help us please contact Lion President Bob Lilley on 01509 508265 or by e-mail at thelilleys15@gmail.com. Shepshed Lions Club Searching For New Members. Shepshed Lions Club is looking for new members to boost its team of 25 in order to serve our community, of which we are very proud. If you are over 18 years of age, and of good character, why not find out more of what we do. It is the largest Voluntary Service Organisation in the world with clubs in over 200 countries and 1.3 million members. All of our members are unpaid volunteers who give their time and effort freely to help those less fortunate in our community. The motto of the Lions Clubs international is “We Serve”, and that is what we do. It is rewarding work and really does great things in our community. Lions Clubs around the world are ordinary people doing amazing things. If you would like to find out more please contact Lion President Bob Lilley on 01509 508265 or by e-mail at thelilleys15@gmail.com

PHOTO: Alison Sharp (SSCB co-ordinator) is presented with the cheque from Cllrs Robert Ewing (Chairman of Finance) and Barry Perkins (ViceChairman of Council).

Shepshed Town Council Present £3,000 Grant To SSCB Shepshed Town Council continues to support local groups and organisations for the benefit of the community in Shepshed.

Shepshed Lions Club Easter Baskets

A grant of £3,000 has been presented to Shepshed Special Community Bus (SSCB) towards it's fund raising for a replacement Bus.

Shepshed Lions Club would like to say a massive “Thank You” to the public of Shepshed for supporting our Easter Basket raffles in the town. The event was a great success thanks to the generosity of the public in the town. Every penny raised will be spent on local good causes. We would also like to thank the licencees of the Crown Hotel, The Horse Restaurant and Bar, The Pied Bull and The Jolly Farmers public house for their support.

Mrs Sharp said "this grant of £3,000 from Shepshed Town Council will be very helpful in assisting us to reach our current goal which is to replace our very tired and weary MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). Our organisation exists to serve our community and build a better tomorrow for all our clients by being able to transport them to daily activities, shopping, lunch clubs, days out etc. things which some of us so easily take for granted. On behalf of SSCB please accept our sincere gratitude for this funding"

CORPORATE SUPPORT IS A VITAL ELEMENT TO KEEPING OUR CENTRE RUNNING. Woodside Animal Centre is the home of RSPCA Leicester Branch and is one of the county’s oldest established charities. Did you know, it costs £19,500 per week to run our centre? The work we do and the impact we have on both the animals and the local community, can only be successfully achieved with the support of local people and businesses within Leicestershire and Rutland. Developing Corporate Partnerships with local businesses is an essential part of the fundraising we do.

If you promote your alliance with Woodside Animal Centre you will benefit financially! Corporate Social Responsibility can add significant weight to your marketing mix and your brand, assisting you in the following ways to:

• Win new business • Increase customer retention • Generate positive PR opportunities resulting from media interest in ethical business activities • Develop and enhance relationships with customers, suppliers and networks • Attract and retain a happier workforce • Differentiate yourself from your competitors 55% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product or service that supports a charitable course and 70% are willing to pay more for a socially responsible product! How can you get involved?

• Choose us as your Charity of the Year • Seek sponsorship opportunities • Enjoy corporate volunteering, team building days and team challenges • Through payroll giving, give as you earn • Donate gifts or services in kind

Christchurch Methodist Celebration Service On Sunday 20th May Christchurch celebrated being totally debt free after the £380,000 refurbishment project, Access for All (A4A). A4A was planned to give easy access to the building, make more frugal use of energy and reduce the carbon footprint. The project completed and was celebrated in May 2016, now two years on and following many years of fundraising, generous gifts and interest free loans Christchurch is debt free. The next BBC for Dementia UK will be held on Sunday June 3rd from 0930-1045 prior to our All Age Worship (AA). AA is the first Sunday of the month at 10.45. Led by a worship band, the music is a mixture of fun action songs and contemporary worship songs. There is always a main theme and we have crafts, prayer activities a talk and bible stories. Usually the service is around 45 minutes with refreshments afterwards. Friday Morning Coffee A coffee morning is held at Christchurch every Friday morning 09301200. A cup of Coffee or tea with biscuits cost just 50p and home-made cakes are available to buy to eat in or take-away. This is a social gathering and we would dearly like to welcome new faces. We have a cupboard full of books to borrow or keep. Bric-a-brac to rummage through and a selection of children's hand-knitted jumpers and cardigans. We even have books and toys for little ones to enjoy. It would be great to welcome new faces, we are certain you would enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

This is normally either the local authority collection service or a registered waste carrier. Householders are required to take all reasonable steps to ensure that any transfer of waste produced at their property is to an authorised person. Householders can be prosecuted or issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) if they fly-tip waste themselves. If householders use an unauthorised person to take their waste away and this is then fly-tipped, the only current option is for the regulator (normally the local authority) to take the offender to court. Successful prosecutions result in householders being left with a criminal record. Ask to see their Waste Carriers License. Free Real Nappy Trial Kits Offered To Parents County are encouraging parents to switch from disposable to real nappies by offering trial real nappy kits free of charge for a period of four weeks. It is estimated that by the time a baby is potty trained they could have gone through around 6,000 disposable nappies. Over the same period, a selection of 24 real nappies could adequately serve one child and dramatically reduce the amount of disposable nappies sent to landfill. Real nappy trial kits allow parents and carers to try before they buy. With so many options available, people can sometimes feel overwhelmed as a result. Having the trial, alongside the guidance available through real nappy advisors, is a great way to eliminate that feeling. The trial kits contain a range of styles of cloth nappies along with wraps, liners and boosters. For more information, please contact the Waste initiatives team on 0116 305 7005 or visit www.lesswaste.org. uk/reuse/reusable-nappies. Advance Notice Of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTRO) TICKOW LANE - I am sorry to have to report again that Tickow Lane is to have a TTRO order placed on it. A TTRO has been made on behalf of Cadet Gas for gas main diversion works. The TTRO will incorporate a road closure. The duration of the TTRO is for a period not exceeding 6 months commencing on the 2nd July, 2018. The actual duration of the restriction is not anticipated to exceed a period

of 2 weeks with the aforementioned duration. A Press Release will be issued to confirm these details approximately 2 weeks prior to the works commencing. GRANGE ROAD – A TTRO is made for Grange Road. The duration is for a period not exceeding 5 days commencing on the 25th June. Reported Road Casualties At a recent meeting of the Environment and Transport Overview Scrutiny Committee scrutinised a report on road casualties for 2016. There were 225 reported killed or seriously injured casualties in 2016, a decrease of 7% compared with 2015. In 2016 there were 36 killed, 189 seriously injured and 1480 slightly injured. Total casualties by road user type were as follows:- 1202 by car, 145 foot, 147 motor bike, 129 pedal bike and 82 other (such as bus, lorries, vans ) In 2016 car occupants account for 66% of all reported road casualties in Leicestershire, which is unsurprising given that cars account for around 80% of traffic on British roads. A total of 115 car occupants killed or seriously injured with a total of 1202 car occupant casualties. There were 45 killed or seriously injured older casualties (aged 60 and over) in Leicestershire in 2016, an 18% increase from 2015. A total number of older casualties were 232 in 2016. There were 10 children aged 15 and under seriously injured and one killed and 139 reported child casualties in total in Leicestershire in 2016. There were 48 motorcyclists reported killed or seriously injured and 147 motorcyclist casualties. There were 21 killed or seriously injured pedal cyclists and 129 pedal cyclist casualties. There were 27 pedestrians killed or seriously injured with a total of 145 pedestrian casualties. Comparing Built-up (20/30/40mph) vs non built-up (50/60/70mph) roads. Built-up all severities 829 and 88 killed or seriously injured, this represented a slight reduction from 2015. Compared to non-built-up 876 severities and 137 killed or seriously injured. This also represented a small reduction from 2015. Your Help Again I would like to thank the residents who keep me informed regarding issues around Shepshed, such overgrown hedges, litter, dog mess etc., without your eyes and ears I could not get them reported and sorted. For help and advice on County matters, I can be contacted on 502974 or e mail christine_radford@ hotmail.com or christine.radford@ leics.gov.uk or come along to my monthly Surgery on the FIRST Saturday of the month in the Town Council Offices, 47a Charnwood Road 10-11am.

Iveshead School Interact Club Presentation To The Bridge The Iveshead School Interact Club invited the Public to join them in raising funds for The Bridge. The Quiz Charity evening raised £384.30. Two representatives from the Bridge gave an interesting talk at an Interact Meeting. Paul Snape, Head of Business Development and Georgina Sothcott-Gilson, Communication and Fundraising Manager, spoke of what they do as an Organisation and what the money will be used for. Their main aim as an organisation is homelessness prevention. They provide 12 services to everybody within the Leicestershire area who is in need of help. Our money raised will go towards their Welfare Service which essentially will allow them to provide rough sleepers with a variety of food packages, fuel vouchers, items for personal hygiene and blankets to keep them warm. In Loughborough during 2017 they were helping 64 rough sleepers to get them back onto their feet. They receive a variety of different funding varying from Government funded money which is passed down to Councils, Children in Need, and National Lottery. As demand for their Services has increased, Community Funded events like ours are essential. The highlight of their job is being able to help the ones who are less fortunate. A big thank you to those who gave raffle prizes, and to all who attended.

Shepshed Twinning Shepshed Twinning’s recent French conversation evening was a real hoot. A whole range of abilities, and just a little bit of franglaise came out. Some of our members are quite good, others fluent, and some happy to get by with help from pleading looks and hand signals. We had been instructed by our host to do homework on our subject “interesting places”, which of course we did like all good students, …the night before! Wow - we heard about AustinTexas, Parisian suburbs, Barcelona, Rothley Station and even Shepshed, plus many other places that people wanted to share their experiences of, not forgetting on our twin town of Domont. Remarkably, not many English words were heard, but there was much mirth, especially when it came to refreshment time – as you will see from the photo. If you can think of a suitable caption or want to take part in our activities get in touch! Our next event is on Sunday June 24th, starting at 10.30, a walk around Calke Park, about 3.5 hours/5miles including a packed lunch stop. Walking boots/strong shoes needed. We welcome all age groups and backgrounds and have great fun. For more information and contact details visit our website, www.shepshedtwinning.co.uk or see us on Facebook - Shepshed and District Twinning Association.

Borough Councillor

Christine Radford

T: 01509 502974 M: 07796 544817 E: christine_radford@hotmail.com We can be contacted on matters concerning Charnwood Borough Council. We deal with housing problems, (such as trying to move house, unsatisfactory improvement work being carried out on your Council property) problems with neighbours, Anti-Social Behaviour, whether or not you live in a Council property or a privately owned property. We also deal with planning issues. Planning Land At Tickow Lane – Watery Lane A planning application in respect of a proposed residential development will soon be submitted to Charnwood on behalf of The Grace Dieu and Longcliffe Estates. A public exhibition is to be held in the Town Council Offices on 12th June between 3-8pm. This area of land is on the other side of Tickow Lane from the Wm Davis estate currently being developed. Planning – Land To The Rear Of 63 Iveshead Road – P/18/0589/2 The construction of 2 one and a half storey dwellings has been refused for various reasons. Cllr Radford and Tassell as Ward Cllrs supported the concerns of the residents regarding this application. This application was refused on various grounds. The proposed dwellings would be accessed by a narrow driveway and parking and turning areas, in close proximity to rooms and windows to properties at Nos 61, 63 and 65 Iveshead Road and the traffic using this access, parking and turning areas and the location of the dwellings would lead to an unacceptable loss of amenity, by reason of noise and disturbance and loss of privacy contrary to Policy CS2 and EV/1. Full details outlining the refusal can be found on the planning explorer quoting P/18/0589/2. Members Grants Each Borough Cllr has been allocated an annual budget of £1,000 which can be used to support projects that bring benefits to their ward. Organisations wishing to apply will need to complete an application form and provide documentation to evidence eligibility. The minimum you can apply for is £250 the maximum you can apply for is £1,000. Organisations must have a constitution/set of rules/articles of association. Have a group bank account with more than one signatory and be ‘not for profit’. Application forms and Project Eligibility details can be got by contacting your ward Cllr. The Grants team at Charnwood will check the eligibility of the organisation by 31st December 2018 and report back to the relevant Cllr of the outcome of their decision. Enjoy A Summer Of Music In Queen’s Park The bandstand in Queen’s Park Loughborough will play centre stage to performances by local talent this summer. Free afternoon concerts by a number of bands and choirs will be staged on the bandstand from 27th May until 22nd July. Performers will include the Loughborough Male Voice Choir, Charnwood Concert Bank, Newhall Ensemble, The New Orleans

Hotshots Jazz Band, Hathern Youth and Concert Brass, Loughborough Concert Band, Melbourne Town Band and Loughborough Salvation Army Music Sections. The concerts start at 2pm on Sunday afternoons. For more information visit www.charnwood.gov.uk/queenspark Tenants Urged To Enter Garden Competition Council tenants are being encouraged to enter an annual garden competition. The event is run by Charnwood Borough Council and is open to its nearly 6,000 tenants who are being urged to show off their greenfingered skills. The categories to enter are houses or flats, the garden, hanging basket, window box or balcony. To enter call 01509 634955.

Last Night Of The Proms 2018 The Last Night of the Proms has become an established feature in the Shepshed Charnwood Rotary Club's calendar. This year's concert, held at St Andrew's Church in Kegworth, was again a superb evening of music and entertainment performed by the ever popular Hathern Band, conducted by David Newman.

Universal Credit – (UC) Cllr Radford and Cllr Tassell attended a training session given by the Department for Works and Pensions explaining the changes for claimants. Universal Credit for this area will commence for new applicants on 11th July and existing ones will follow on. It is a simplification of the benefit system.

Audience participation was actively encouraged and with a great deal of flag waving the evening sped by. Members of the Club, dressed in their finery, served refreshments at the interval to an appreciative gathering who were soon ready to sing some old favourite songs.

Charnwood are helping to support the introduction of UC by raising awareness with leaflets, banners, letters, website, social media and presentations. By recruiting additional staff to support customers including a Universal Credit Officer and Customer Support Assistant and the introduction of a Personal Budgeting Support service, and training of Council employees.

President Alan Darby commented that the club is delighted to support both of these organisations and would like to thank all who attended and contributed to the evening.

On Going Issues Planning and Anti-Social behaviour (majority of it confidential) is still taking up a large amount of our time. Do not hesitate to contact us should you have issues you wish to discuss with us. We shall continue to hold our regular monthly surgery on the FIRST Saturday of the month in the Town Council offices, Charnwood Road, from 1011am. No appointments are necessary. Bill Bebbington, Christine Radford, John Savage and Joan Tassell. 502974, 506661, 769707,or email christine_radford@hotmail.com, cllr. joan.tassell@charnwood.gov.uk, cllr. christine.radford@charnwood.gov.uk; cllr.bill.bebbington@charnwood.gov. uk and cllr.john.savage@charnwood. gov.uk

The evening was a huge success and donations were made to both the Church and the charity Prostaid. Organiser Bill Watson thanked the band, club members and especially all of the audience for their support.

In reply Rob Banner, Prostaid, also thanked the club and all those that supported the evening. He explained that Prostaid is an independent charity, based in Wigston, Leicestershire. They rely on donations and bequests such as this to continue their work. What more can be said, a great night, see you all next year. Toilet Twinning For the International project the Inner Wheel Club of Shepshed supported toilet twinning which helps to flush away poverty. Around a third of the worlds population have to use fields, streams, rivers, railway lines, as they don’t have a loo. By twinning a toilet you can help a single household or a school block to enable people living in poor communities to have clean water, a basic toilet, and to learn about hygiene. The ladies of the Shepshed Club raised enough money to twin 3 toilets, 1 in Nepal, in Myanmar and 1 in Kasongo in the Democratic republic of Congo and these have been twinned with toilets at Loughborough Baptist Church.

Member Of Parliament

Nicky Morgan

T: 01509 262723 E: nicky.morgan.mp@parliament.uk Last month I was finally able to secure a short debate in the House of Commons Westminster Hall chamber on the involvement of local communities in the planning system. I raised three particular issues – the calculation of whether local councils have a 5 year land supply, how residents who have been involved in commenting on applications find out about planning appeals and subsequent events and how poorly worded planning conditions don’t offer the protections or secure the investment in local infrastructure which local communities need. The first issue, about local councils having a 5 year land supply, is perhaps of most relevance to Shepshed. Without being able to demonstrate this local councils have real difficulty in turning down applications for developments. However, local councils such as Charnwood, which have granted planning permission for 10 years’ worth of housing have no control over the speed at which those houses are built and this lack of building can then undermine their case for having a 5 year land supply. The Minister took the points on board and we also had a discussion about the importance of neighbourhood plans. To read the debate please look at the link on my website – nickymorgan.com I know that levels of crime are a

concern to Shepshed residents and that your councillors have met with the police locally and contacted the Police and Crime Commissioner about this. It is worth noting that overall Charnwood has seen a smaller increase in crime over the last 2 years than anywhere else in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland. But this is of cold comfort to anyone who has been a victim of crime or lives near a problem area. I have spoken to Inspector Dwight Barker about community concerns in Shepshed and particular high profile crimes and would be happy to discuss this with anyone who wants to do so.

Team Builders Holiday Club This Summer

One particular crime which I continue to receive reports about is attacks by dogs on other dogs or which cause injuries to people, particularly children. If this is something which has affected you and you feel more could be done to prevent this then I would like to hear from you.

Shepshed Churches Together are again holding their popular Holiday

Finally, thank you to the Shepshed residents who e-mailed me with their experiences of ME/CFS when I wrote about it recently. I recently saw the very powerful film ‘Unrest’ on this issue and I am working with fellow MPs to secure a debate in the House of Commons where I hope I can do justice to the messages sent to me.

Thringstone Art Group Thringstone Art Group are busy preparing lovely paintings for their ANNUAL ART EXHIBITION 18th -27th AUGUST 2018. This is held in the Charles Booth Centre, Thringstone, on The Green (which used to be known as Thringstone House Community Centre) LE67 8NR. The exhibition of about 300 paintings is mainly of work by the 24 members of the group, but also includes several local visiting artists who exhibit with us each year. All the paintings are for sale and one special picture will be chosen by the group as a raffle prize. There is a competition to see who gets the most votes for the visitors’ favourite picture and tea and cake are available to buy at the weekends. The group meets at the centre on Friday afternoons throughout the year and also enjoys outings in the summer and at Christmas.
