Property Marking - Marking your property is a positive way to fight crime. It can act as a deterrent, allowing you to prove ownership and helping you to identify your property more easily is it is found. Marking your property also provides the police a way to identify stolen goods and return them to their owners. It also makes it less valuable to a criminal as it is more difficult to sell on or dispose of. Various ways to mark your property Visible markers: Permanent marker pens, Waterproof paint, Stencils, Engraving, Branding, Specialized overt marking kits such as Cremark Invisible Markers: UV pens Specialized forensic kits such as SmartWater, SelectaDNA, Red Web etc
What to mark your property with You can put any kind of mark on your property to distinguish it as yours. It is recommended that your postcode is used, prefixed with the number of your address, i.e. 23 LE1 1QA. A postcode is unique to your property and allows the goods to be identified and returned to you. However, just putting a name or a symbol on the property makes it identifiable, but does not provide details of who the property belongs to. Keep hold of receipts and paperwork relating to serial numbers. If you decide to sell on your item or dispose of it, remember to add two ‘X’ marks before and after your postcode e.g. X 23 LE1 1QA X. This indicates that the property is no longer yours. Advertising that your property has been security marked is a good way of deterring thieves. It is also a good idea keep photographs and descriptions of valuable items so that they can be positively identified should they get stolen. Photos that feature identification marks are particularly useful.
Digital Police Community Support Officers Leicestershire Police have introduced three new Digital Police Community Support Officers who will be available to talk about Police related issues in your community. They are available for any questions or queries you may have so feel free to get in touch with them via Facebook. If anybody has any information about the recorded crimes then please speak with your local officers, or if you have any information at all about crime please call CRIMESTOPPERS. Your call will always be free, we won’t ask your name and you may even receive a cash reward. Just call – 0800 555 111

Numbers of bags plummet CONGRATULATIONS! We are using many fewer plastic bags. On average, we now use about 19 a year – as opposed to 140 a year. The number of disposable carrier bags issued by the seven biggest supermarket chains has declined by 86 per cent since the charge was introduced in 2015, according to statistics from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Michal Gove, the Environment Secretary, has said it is vital to reverse the ‘rising tide of plastic waste finding its ways into our rivers, seas and oceans, and the catastrophic impact this is having on our marine environment.’

Community Speed Watch
Christmas Lights
Following a meeting on the 11th September a new formal action group ‘Anstey Community Speed Watch’ has formed. Training will be undertaken by the members of the group and they hope to be ready to do some speed checks early next year. If you are interested in joining this group, do get in touch and I will forward your details to the group’s co-ordinator.
The Parish Council is currently working with Leicestershire County Council to organize a Christmas Lights display in Anstey. This year there is further structural testing of lamp columns and any display’s that are above the highway. This further work is delaying the process in obtaining a license to have lights in Anstey and increasing the costs by an extra £1895.00.
More information on what is involved is available at: https://www.communityspeedwatch.org.

Borough Councillor Report Cllr John J. Sutherington. Ward Councillor. Anstey. 43 George Street, Anstey, Leicester LE7 7DT. 0116 2204643. M 07939070603. - Email:- cllr.john.sutherington@charnwood.gov.uk Doesn’t time fly? October already, nights drawing in and the long haul until Christmas. I hope you all had a good summer holiday, whatever you did! Unfortunately I’ve had to spend some more time in the Leicester Royal Infirmary, it seems to be becoming a bit of a time share for me! On my scam, I have been very dissatisfied with the responses from Santander to my specific questions, so I have written to the Financial Ombudsman for their views. I am awaiting their reply. On the sporting front, Leicester City seem to delight and frustrate from game to game, while not surprisingly star striker Jamie Vardy has given up playing international football. Well, when his team mates almost ignored him why bother (what if he played for Tottenham?) Another disappointing cricket season down at Grace Road at the Fischer County ground, although we did manage to beat Durham at the end of the season. Locally Anstey Nomads have really got off to a good start to the 2018/19 season. At the time of writing they are top of the United Counties League Division One. Moreover, for the first time in the clubs 71 years history they have reached the 2nd qualifying round of the Emirate’s FA Cup where they will meet Mickleover Sports from Derbyshire. Only 8 more games away from Wembley!!! Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club have won Division 5 West of the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League, beating 2nd placed Kirby Muxloe by 5 wickets on the final day of the season. The team was captained by young Joe Harris who, like 2nd X1 captain Bradley Wells, came up through the clubs junior section. The second X1 finished 6th in division 7 West.
FULL STEAM ahead for Charnwood Lottery! People are being urged to take a chance and make a difference by supporting the recently launched Charnwood Community Lottery. The lottery is a creative and effective way to raise much-needed regular funding during difficult financial times. Many groups have signed up so far, including Anstey Community Library, and I would encourage the many other fantastic organisations in Charnwood to consider getting involved. The lottery is run by Charnwood Borough Council, who decided to set up a lottery to further support the local voluntary and community sector. Tickets are on sale now and for every £1 ticket bought, 60p will go towards helping good causes, charities and voluntary organisations PLUS, you could win up to £25,000! You can choose to help a specific group, perhaps one close to your heart, and the organisation will receive a 50p donation, with 10p going towards a central community fund. If no charity is chosen, the whole 60p goes to the community fund. The council will use the community fund to support local projects and good causes through its grants scheme. Lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries in places such as Melton Mowbray, Corby and Mansfield. The first Charnwood Community Lottery draw takes place on September 29th 2018. To mark the occasion the lottery has two additional prizes, an iPad and a dining experience for two at Great Central Railway worth over £100. To find out more information or to buy a ticket, please visit www.charnwoodlottery.co.uk where you will be asked to create an
account. We hope the lottery will be of benefit to the organisations involved and for ticket buyers.
“Discus” Dan Greaves Anstey’s own ‘Discus’ Dan Greaves, Paralympic Champion, has won his 3rd consecutive European title in Berlin, just short of his 36 birthday (4th October). He defeated Ivan Katanusic (CPO) with a 2nd round throw of 57.65m. This win helped somewhat to make up for the disappointment he suffered at last year’s London Paralympic games. Dan always strives for Gold when competing and was overjoyed with this latest victory. His only disappointment was not to break the 60m barrier, which he has done in the past. The 2 previous wins were in Swansea and Grosseto
Anstey Gala I managed to get to this year’s gala along with the gala service the following Sunday morning. Not the best of weather but a good turnout nonetheless. I didn’t win on the raffle which was well supported by many organisations. I must, however, have a moan at the local Coop where Anstey people and others spend £1000s per day? Yes, they gave a prize of a £5 gift voucher! It seems their slogan “it’s ALL at the Coop” means just that!

Anstey Nomads participation in this seasons Emirates FA Cup came to an abrupt end in the 2nd qualifying round at the Cropston Road ground with a 7-1 loss against Mickleover Sports from the Northern Premier League Division (2 steps above the nomads). Visitors to the Show studying the exhibits.
This has been an extremely difficult year for the gardener. Growing vegetables, flowers and fruit has been a challenge in such extreme weather conditions and only the most dedicated have been rewarded, so it was with a slightly pessimistic air that we awaited the outcome of this year’s Show.
A ‘floating bowl’ was a new class this year.
New to our exhibitors list this year, Rita Richards dominated in the Floral Art section, winning the Pat Jones Bowl and the Orton Cup for ‘Best Exhibit in Show’ with her superb flower arrangement.
After a chilly start it turned out to be a glorious sunny day but as we had anticipated the usual influx of exhibitors did not materialise. It was a steady trickle of exhibitors rather than the early and late morning rush we have had in the past. What we did get was excellent quality, albeit the quantity of exhibits was well down.
The final Club events of the year are:Wednesday 10th October Plant Hunter Ernest ‘Chinese’ Wilson Dr Twigs Way ‘Chinese’ Wilson introduced over a thousand garden plants into this country. This talk uses Wilson’s own words & images.
All but two sections, Preserves and Arts & Crafts, were down on entries from last year reflecting the difficulties that people had experienced.

David Snartt Reports... Borough Councillor for Forest Bradgate
Update Speeding Vehicles Roecliffe Road Further to the information in my report last month, I have received further details from the Police Road Safety Unit. It has now been requested that the Speed Enforcement Officer prioritises Roecliffe Road when conducting mobile speed enforcement. I have also asked for details on how effective the speed camera van has been once the visits have taken place. I will let you know the outcomes once I have received the information. I am pleased this enforcement is now taking place as, in my view, the many accidents at the crossroads have been due to speeding vehicles.
Newtown Linford Parking Enforcement After discussion at the last Newtown Linford Parish Council meeting about the levels of illegal parking enforcement within the village, I asked for details on the number of parking tickets issued this year. The details show that the total of tickets issued from the 1st January to mid-September was 420. The highest number was recorded on Bradgate Road 256, followed by Groby Lane (service road) 83, and Groby Lane 63. In my view, this shows there is still a major problem with illegal parking within the village, therefore, there is still a need to look for solutions to this problem.
Model of Local Government in Leicestershire Last month I gave details about proposals to change the structure for local government in Leicestershire. You may have seen this was an item on BBC national news on Friday 14th September, where both the Leaders of the County Council and Charnwood Borough Council were interviewed. In my view, the position has not changed greatly since my report last month, other than the District and
Borough Leaders making it clear they are not against change but have concerns about the way the process has been handled so far. You should have received the latest edition of Leicestershire Matters from the County Council, giving details of the timetable they are working to, which sees a debate on the proposals at the full County Council meeting in December, with public consultation taking place after this meeting. It is also stated you can stay in touch with the proposals and timetable for consultation by registering your interest by visiting leicestershire.gov.uk/newcouncil. I understand from information received from the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council that ‘the seven District and Borough Leaders are working together to look at all options in the County, and make sure that we take our MPs with us, since any changes may require parliamentary time and an Act of Parliament. However, most importantly, we need to take residents with us – all potential options must be considered against what’s best for Leicestershire, and puts residents first. The current structure has been in place for almost 50 years, so a review shouldn’t be rushed through in 5 months – the District and Borough Leaders will be setting out their timetable for looking at all options soon’. I will continue to keep you informed about progress as this most important item develops through the decision making process, already I have had discussions with residents on this matter, remember, do have your say when the consultation takes place.

World War One. Charnwood Borough Council has appointed award winning artist Jeni Cairns to create a life-sized model of Songster, who survived many trials and tribulations whilst serving in the war and returned safely to his home in Woodhouse Eaves where he passed away in January 1940 at the grand old age of 40. Songster went to war in 1914 and served in France where he was awarded several medals for his bravery. The life sized model of Songster will be a focal point of the commemorations on Remembrance day and will join the procession through Loughborough town centre to the market place. The War Horse will be covered in poppies made by local school children and community groups in Charnwood. I was pleased to see in a recent edition of the Woodhouse Parish Roundabout magazine an article detailing the life of Songster and the reference to his only job in retirement which was to pull a milk cart once a week to Loughborough market. I understand whilst he was there he enjoyed a glass of beer at a local hotel.
Removal of Bring Sites Charnwood Borough Council have started the process of removing ‘Bring Sites’ which will save taxpayers around ÂŁ20,000 a year. The Council announced plans earlier in the year to remove 79 glass and aluminium recycling banks at a number of locations including two in Newtown Linford and two in Woodhouse Eaves. The recycling banks are no longer necessary as the materials can be recycled in the Council’s kerbside scheme. After receiving information, I was concerned this may be an issue to some residents who, for environmental reasons, use green sacks and still use the ‘Bring Sites’ for glass. I would be grateful if residents would let me know if they are experiencing any difficulties with recycling glass once the recycling banks have been removed. Residents can request additional green sacks at any time by e-mailing cleaner.greener@charnwood.gov.uk or the Council’s Contact Centre on 01509 634563.

Road Safety
Charnwood Community Lottery
I attended an event at Woodhouse about road safety on rural roads and country lanes, especially looking at how vehicle drivers share the roads with horse riders and cyclists. This was a well-attended event by several interested agencies and local residents, also attracting both local TV stations BBC and ITV news, which gave the event extra coverage to demonstrate how all road users can make our local roads safer and to understand the different circumstances when approaching horse riders and cyclists. I understand this campaign is the response to an increase in road accidents within the Charnwood area. It was particularly interesting to hear from a local horse rider, Liz Randall about the changes that have taken place over the years, especially how much busier our local roads are today and the increasing speeds which some vehicles tend to travel, also giving first-hand information on accidents.
The Charnwood Community Lottery run by Charnwood Borough Council has been launched, tickets are now on sale and will help raise money for good causes, charities and voluntary organisations. For every ÂŁ1 ticket sold, 60p will go towards helping a good cause and players can win up to ÂŁ25.000. A number of groups have already signed up, but I would like to encourage any eligible organisation within my Ward to consider
getting involved. For more information about how organisations can register and how to buy tickets please visit the lottery website www.charnwoodlottery.co.uk. If you need to contact me on any issues, please write to 10 Groby Lane, Newtown Linford, Leicester. LE6 0HH e-mail cllr.david.snartt@charnwood.gov.uk or telephone 01530 244804.

ANSTEY NOMADS FIXTURES
I hope many residents were able to see the coverage on the TV news. I found the interviews from the Police and local people thought provoking and excellent information to make our local roads much safer for all road users. To help with this latest campaign you will start to see new yellow roadside signs ‘Think Ahead’ being placed around our rural roads.

They say never work with children or animals, so what have Charnwood Scouts done? They have taken 130 Cub Scouts to Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourn for a sleep over. The young people from across Charnwood, including Anstey and Woodhouse, travelled down the motorway to the wildlife park. It was wet but everyone was full of excitement as they arrived for their exclusive VIP tour. During the tour the Cubs got to see the penguins, camels and a range of reptiles. After the tour they got to meet some more animals up close including a snake and a bearded dragon. The young people had the opportunity to talk to the rangers and learn more about these animals. Dylan, 9, asked “What colour does it [the bearded dragons beard] change into? Which gave a fascinating answer from ranger Hannah “When they are angry the beard goes black as a warning to keep away, but when the male finds a girlfriend it turns orange and he dances.” Later on in the evening the Cubs gathered in the huge marquee and had a film night watching The Jungle Book and The Greatest Showman. As dawn broke they awoke with great excitement for the upcoming day of exploration. We asked Alfie, 8, which animal he was looking forward to seeing most. “The Lions sleeping on the rocks”. The day started wet but soon the sun came out and with it all the animals. Each group explored the park and saw the rest of the animals including the white lion, tigers and jaguars. Some of the Cubs even got to see the penguin feed and talk which Isaac, 10, thought was “amazing!” “I loved seeing the penguins all running and swimming, it was epic.”
ANSTEY WI
The Anstey gala proved a very successful fundraising opportunity for Anstey WI. In keeping with the theme, the centenary of the end of World War 1, the stall was decorated with crocheted poppies. Members were generous with their donations of cakes, preserves and handicrafts for sale. An additional cause for celebration came when Wentworth, a guide dog belonging to Tony Price, husband of WI president Sheila, won the rosette for the dog with the waggiest tail. The rosette has been proudly displayed as Wentworth escorts Tony around the village. At the monthly meeting, Liz Robson of Rothley Kingfisher Pool Vineyard came to talk about her venture. What began as a hobby is now a full blown business, although it still uses volunteer workers. Liz brought along three wines for audience members to try, and made sure that all those who wished to had a glass in hand before the talk began. What she had to say was fascinating. Who knew, for example, that Englishman Christopher Merrett discovered the double fermentation process for producing sparkling wine in 1662, well before Dom Perignan of champagne fame? Her white, red and rose wines were delicious and a convivial time was had. Liz Heggs won the competition for an arrangement of cheese, grapes and a wine glass. Our next meeting, on October 10th at 7.30pm in the Jubilee hall, will be a members’ evening, when we shall be decorating small calico bags. Visitors will be welcome, as always.

Renata performed for us last November at the inauguration of our new piano at Markfield Methodist Church. The recital was an evening few of us will forget. Renata was a student of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and thrilled the full house with her programme of Chopin and Liszt, producing a spontaneous standing ovation at the end. Quite simply, Renata was breath-taking, with a staggering technique and depth of musical maturity. Added to that was her lovely, gentle manner. We are extremely excited to be welcoming her back!

Deborah Taylor... Latest News Borough Councillor for Anstey & County Councillor for Bradgate Division 6 Geary Close, Anstey LE7 7LW - Tel: 0116 2350126 Email: Cllr.Deborah.Taylor@charnwood.gov.uk & Deborah.Taylor@leics.gov.uk Facebook: www.facebook.com/CllrDTaylor - Twitter: @CllrDTaylor
On Thursday 30th August I popped into the Anstey Parish Council’s afternoon tea party for 90-year olds and above. The hall was full, the tea and cakes were flowing, and an excellent piano player was accompanying the sing-along. It was an excellent afternoon, and everyone enjoyed the visit from Charnwood’s Mayor. September is my busy month with village shows and events to attend. I attended the first one on Saturday 1st September, at the Bell Foundry estate in Loughborough for their annual fun day. This also included the opening of the new garden and play area. I did pot one of the plants, so I hope it survives! Also attending, and potting a plant, was Charnwood’s Mayor and Nicky Morgan MP. On then to Woodhouse Eaves Horticultural and Craft Show at 2pm. I was joined by Edward Argar MP and we were very impressed by the fruit and vegetables on show as there had been concerns, due to the very hot weather we had experienced that they would not have grown very well. We had a walk round all the exhibits and had a piece of cake and a cup of tea before we moved onto the next event of the day, the Cropston and Thurcaston Gardening Club Annual Show. The fruit and vegetables along with all the cakes and flowers were again, exceptional. We looked around all the exhibits and then I was honoured to have been asked to present the trophies to all the successful winners. A very long day but very enjoyable and the weather was kind to us. The following Saturday, the 8th September, the first event of the day was the Anstey Gala. Again, the weather was kind to us. Edward Argar MP and myself were also joined by our new candidate, Professor Paul Baines, who will be standing with me in next year’s Charnwood Borough Council elections in May 2019. Paul is a Professor of Political Marketing and lectures at the University of Leicester. It was nice to meet and chat to so many people and introduce Paul to local residents. One of the highlights of my day was our dog, Duke, who won second place in the ‘Best Rescue’ category in his first ever dog show. He wore his rosette with pride. After the excitement of the dog show it was onto the Swithland Flower and Vegetable
16
show. Again, there was an excellent display including some amazing cakes that should have been on Bake Off! But there was drama with the blackberry category. Each plate should have contained 6 blackberries. Unfortunately, the wind blew one blackberry to another plate, ending up with one plate containing 5 blackberries and the other plate having 7. They were both sadly disqualified. Onto Sunday 9th and the Anstey Gala Church Service. I was honoured to be asked to read one of the readings and of course to eat up some of the cakes left over from the Gala. It was lovely to see Jubilee Hall full, what a shame it was a bit too cold though to have the service outside. There was also many committee and cabinet meetings to attend after the summer recess and plenty of case work to keep me very busy. A few highlights from the month was the early morning visit to monitor the traffic and parking issues at St Pauls primary school in Woodhouse Eaves. I attended a workshop at Police Headquarters looking into more joined up working for Community Safety Partnerships. I also attended a three-hour training session to understand further how to communicate with residents who have hearing problems. I also learnt some British Sign Language which was great. There is an opportunity to complete a further 10-week course to learn more, but with my workload at the moment I do not have the time to commit. Maybe something for the future.
Brexit Night Following on from earlier where I mentioned Professor Paul Baines, there is an opportunity to hear Paul speak. Paul has written many books, I am reading one at the moment called ‘Explaining Cameron’s Catastrophe’ which explains the 2016 European Referendum, I am half way through and have to be strict with myself or I will not get any work done! You can hear Paul speak about Brexit on Friday 12th October at The Linford, Newtown Linford at 7pm. The tickets cost £10 and this includes a buffet. There will also be any opportunity to ask Paul any questions during the evening, it promises to be a lively evening. If you are interested in attending, please contact myself.
Residents’ Surgery I had a successful residents’ surgery on Saturday 15th September. I would like to thank Anstey Parish Council for the use of Jubilee Hall. Edward Argar MP also joined me at the surgery and I do hope that the residents who attend these surgeries feel that they are useful for the community.
Charnwood Community Lottery The lottery was launched at Great Central Railway (GCR) in Loughborough on Wednesday 4th September. GCR have also very kindly donated an extra prize for the very first draw, an iPad and a dining experience for two at Great Central Railway worth over £100. The Nook, Car Park Survey, Anstey There have been nearly 200 responses to The Nook car park survey and once the data has been collated I will be able to meet with officers from Charnwood Borough Council to discuss the responses further. I have also been contacted about mainly delivery vehicles, blocking the two disabled parking spaces near to the public toilets in The Nook car park. Letters have been hand delivered to the businesses to ask that their delivery lorries and vans do not block the spaces. I do not want to stop the businesses receiving deliveries, but they should not be blocking these spaces. When I look at the car park survey results I will also be considering if a loading bay could be added somewhere within the car park.
Closure of The Nook, Anstey A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is to be made for the following location: Bradgate Road, Stadon Road and Latimer Street, Anstey. The purpose of the TTRO is to facilitate Chasetown Civil Engineering Limited with remedial works at The Nook. The TTRO will incorporate temporary road closures, temporary parking bay suspensions and temporary prohibition of waiting at any time.
t: 0800 6446 150 • e: yourlocal@openboxpromotions.co.uk • w: www.openboxpromotions.co.uk
During the closures, traffic flow through The Nook from Leicester Road and Cropston Road will be controlled by temporary 2-way traffic lights. The duration of the TTRO is for a period of approx. 2 nights commencing on the 29th October 2018.
Average Speed Camera Trials I have mentioned the speed camera trials several times in previous reports. Three sites have now been completed and the cameras have been switched on, so you have been warned! Measham, Sharnford and Walcote are fully working and the Groby cameras on the A50 have just been switched on. The only village in my division having the average speed cameras is Woodhouse Eaves and these cameras should be up and running by the beginning of October. I will also warn you that the cameras are very small and high up so are easily missed. Please drive safely.

The Martin High School... “Inspiring to dream more, learn more, do more and become more.” We are Martin High School Exam Results 2018 Results Day Martin High are proud of the achievement and progress that our year 11 learners made last year. We are delighted that the progress of our learners continues to improve year on year and it is a reflection of the hard work of all involved (especially our learners). Results day was a wonderful morning, celebrating the success of our learners and wishing them every success in their future. We have learners that have achieved multiple grade 9's and 8's in the new, tougher GCSE exams. We have improved the progress of our most vulnerable learners and increased the percentage getting good passes in English and Maths. Many subjects have improved since last year and achieved outcomes better than national figures. We are really pleased with the improvements in Maths, History and French this year. So a big well done to all the year 11s from last year and a big thank-you to the parents and carers support.
Busy First Term The Year 7 have had a tremendously successful induction into our community and school has got off to a flying start. After the success of our GCSE results this summer, our current Years 10 and 11 have settled into the term feeling focussed and determined. The rigours of the new GCSE’s see all year groups beginning to use knowledge organisers so they are well prepared for the future examinations. If you were unable to attend our knowledge organiser information session last year, the presentation can be located on our website; www.martinhigh.org. We have had huge renovations during the summer term and holiday including new windows, refurbishment of communal areas and two new reception spaces. We have also undertaken a significant IT upgrade as part of our work in the Lionheart Trust. On 1st September 2018 we officially became part of the Trust, and our learners are benefitting from being part of this large family of schools; not just through IT infrastructure improvements, but via Classics club, Latin GCSE, sporting events and fixtures and greater links with a variety of top universities. We have an exciting year ahead of us, and look forward to working closely with you to ensure all our learners achieve the success they deserve.

Executive Head Teacher
Careers in focus A new Careers in Focus section has been added to the school website. The careers information and guidance section has been updated to include profiles of exciting and rewarding careers that our learners may like to do in the future. The profiles provide information on the qualifications required to pursue a career in the candidates field and what an average day might be like.
Year 7 Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre At the beginning of the school year, Year 7 embarked on A PROUDER Way. This unit of work at the start of our academic year, helps prepare learners to make the most of the learning opportunities that the school has in store for them. Over the first four days, a series of lessons around Attendance, Punctuality, Respect, Organisation, Uniform, Determination, Environment and Resilience, were delivered to our learners and all work was completed in their A PROUDER Way Passports. On 14th September, the first challenge on their A PROUDER Way, came for our Year 7’s as they went to the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre to put their new skills to the test - and our learners certainly rose to the challenge! Learners climbed high towers and abseiled off the top; they built rafts and learnt how to paddle them down the river as well as trying their hand at archery and team building challenges. Cheered on and encouraged by their tutors, who also couldn't resist joining in on the water, the day was a magical experience for all involved. Many learners overcame challenges to achieve their goals on the day and as staff, we could not have been more PROUD of them.
Mrs S Coates -
Head of Transition
Humanutopia On Wednesday 19th September, we invited an organisation called humanutopia in to work with our year 8 learners. This event, called Who Am I? is a day-long experience which deals with important teenage issues around personal awareness, peer pressure and conformity. It also gives the learners the opportunity to reflect on their life chances, encouraging them to have high hopes and aspirations for their future. The humanutopia experience is designed to help young people discover a more authentic side to who they are and is also a great opportunity for them to develop teamwork skills. Our Year 10 student leaders also took part, developing their leadership skills by supporting small groups of younger learners. The humanutopia team were very impressed by the warm welcome they received from the school and also the honest and mature way the all the learners responded to the challenges the team set them.

Cross Country On Saturday 16th September, Martin High School cross country runners took part in the first Leicestershire and Rutland Cross Country league race of the year hosted by Charnwood College. It was an incredibly successful day all round with Eammon Jille 6th, Josh Fitzpatrick 7th, Charlie Stubbs 39th, and Freddie Blockey-Smith leading the way to a 3rd place team finish in the Year 7 race. Team 2 in the Year 7 race finished in a fantastic 10th place with Sam Powell in 49th , Matt Nicholas in 54th, Josh Spicer-Hadley in 61st and Ryan Jones in 62nd . There was success on the girl’s side with Abi Wiltshire finishing a very strong 22nd. Abi was well supported by Tori Constant who powered through to a 34th place finish on the tough 1.5 mile course. In the Inter girls race the ever consistent Rosie Timlock (Year 11) finished in an incredible 3rd place. Rosie ran in the English schools cross country championships in 2018 and has made a successful switch to the steeple chase on the track.

FILM PRESENTATIONS
Thurcaston and Cropston Parish Council In September, we certainly watched a feel-good film, with a full house. “Finding Your Feet” was a lighthearted, yet moving, portrayal of growing older, showing, in a hilarious way, how to make the most of life and be true to oneself. "The Post" will be shown on October 5th and lasts 116 minutes. Steven Speilberg's 1970's political thriller is a true story about the famous newspaper. "The Washington Post" drama stars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. This film depicts not only gender inequality but also how women can become empowered in their work. Katharine Graham was the first female publisher of a major American newspaper. She risked her family business and criminal prosecution regarding government papers about the Vietnam War. "The Post" won six Golden Globe Award Nominations and many accolades. "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" will be shown on November 9th and last 123 minutes.
Anstey Local History Society The next meeting will be held on: Wednesday October 17th at 7.00.p.m. in Anstey Community Library
An Anstey Lad Come and listen to Brian Kibble’s tales of growing up in Anstey. Members: Free www.ansteyhistory.com

A young upcoming novelist decides to write a book about the wartime experiences of Guernsey residents. November’s film reminds us that letter-writing is such a pleasure, sometimes revealing mysteries and romance. This is, indeed, a magical book club with true friendships and unbreakable bonds. “The Greatest Showman” will be shown on Dec. 14th. Thurcaston and Cropston Parish Council will be showing these films at Thurcaston Memorial Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Film tickets will cost the usual £5 which will includes refreshments and a lucky prize draw during the interval. Advanced tickets may be purchased via the parish office –0116 236 7626 or at the door.

Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club 2018 Season Review By Phil Vose
Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club have enjoyed a very successful 2018 season with the highlight being the 1st team finishing as well deserved champions in their league. The 2nd team have also progressed from last season’s promotion to finish in 6th place in their division. The Sunday friendly team won their league too. There have been some fantastic individual performances, but the main theme is that it has been a great team effort by everyone which has meant that the club has continued to move forward. The 1st team had a brilliant year in Division 5 West following last year’s near miss in gaining promotion. They won the division winning 17 matches and only losing twice to finish the season with an outstanding 462 points. There were some fantastic performances during the season cumulating with a 5-wicket victory on the last day of their season against Kirby Muxloe 2 to clinch the title. The team were led in fine style by Joe Harris who took 34 wickets throughout the Summer. Joe was backed up with some excellent individual performances this year with Anoop Jayaraj again coming out top of the batting charts scoring over 600 runs – this included a magnificent century against Hinckley Amateur 2 and 3 fifties. Anoop had some great support with Taylor McMillan, Kiran Nair and Viral Patel also scoring hundreds against Earl Shilton 2, Walton and Loughborough Town 3 respectively. Half centuries were posted by Abbas Khan, Shehan Perera and Sunny Singh. The bowlers also made some fantastic contributions with Anil Revu leading the way.
Anil gained a total of 39 wickets during the season and this included a tremendous 5 wicket haul against Walton, where he took 7 wickets for just 25 runs. He was supported by Joe Harris, Viral Patel and Taylor McMillan who all took over 15 wickets during the season. Joe, Viral and Charlie Wilkes all took 5 wicket hauls in what was a fabulous bowling performance. The 1st team will look forward to 2019 and a campaign in Division 4. This will be a higher level but if they can match some of this year’s superb performances then hopefully the first XI will be flying high again. The 2nd team enjoyed a decent season too finishing 6th in Division 7 West. They ended the season with over 330 points and won nearly half of their matches. 2nd team captain, Bradley Wells played a leading role with bat and ball and was among the top performers by scoring a half century against Aryans and a 5-wicket haul at Braunstone. Numerous batsmen scored 50 or more and they included Bruce Smith, James Ogle, Nilusha Perera, Newan Dhashana, Sunny Singh, Kiran Nair, Robert Charles, Niall Simpson, Charlie Wilkes, Darren Morris and Abbas Khan. Leading wicket taker was Chemika Mewan and he claimed 30 victims with a best of 5 for 11 against Loughborough Outwoods 2. Other notable statistics included Sunny Singh taking 5 wickets against Maher and Ranjeeva Fernando taking 19 wickets throughout the season. The 2nd XI will be looking to boost their ranks for next year and push further up the league.
The club took part in the 20/20 County Shield earlier in the Summer and following an early victory against County Officers, the club progressed to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they fell to defeat against Leicester Caribbean but I’m sure the club will be back competing next year in a bid to regain the trophy they won in 2015. The Sunday team led by captain, Steve Turner played in a local friendly league for the first time and managed to win it following some fine performances. Other teams in the league included Earl Shilton, Queniborough, Dunton Bassett and Electricity Sports with Anstey and Glenfield winning 3 of their matches to top the table. The club also played other occasional friendlies to compliment the league matches so it gave a larger pool of players the opportunity to gain some valuable match practice. The end of season ground work has taken place which should mean that next season’s pitches are in decent shape. Thanks in particular to Jon Hartwell, the club groundsman for all his hard work and to the club members who gave up their time to make sure this happened. The club are hosting their AGM and presentation evening on Friday 23rd November at Anstey Nomads and Winter Nets will commence early next year taking place at the City Cricket Academy. Anstey and Glenfield are looking for any new players to join the club for the 2019 season, so if you are interested in being involved then please email our secretary Amanda Wilkes at amandaandcharlie@btinternet.com. Please also visit our website at http://ansteyandglenfield.play-cricket.com for regular updates, results and news.
Christmas craft fair will raise vital funds for local heart charity On Sunday 4 November, local heart charity, *the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT) will be holding their annual Christmas craft fair. Now in its 3rd year, the event will be held at the new Mountsorrel Memorial Centre, and will be open from 10.30-4.30pm. The JHMT Christmas Fair will be a chance for Christmas shoppers to choose from a range beautiful gifts from a range of uniquely crafted items made with skill, love and care by talented local artisans. Items will include jewellery, shabby chic furniture, home interiors and accessories, paintings and artwork, glassware, candles, cards, craft gins, local fine wines and delicatessen goods all with the emphasis on quality products which are not available on the high street. Angie Humphries from the Trust said: “The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust was formed out of the tragic loss of my amazing son Joe who collapsed and died aged just 14 after a run with one of his best friends. “Joe was a victim of sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (SADS), a heart condition which causes sudden, unexpected death in young people and can often go undiagnosed. The void which was left by Joe’s tragically sudden death can never be filled, but Joe’s legacy is the fabulous work of the Trust created in his name (www.jhmt.org.uk) “By coming along to our Christmas craft fair, you can buy unique eclectic and beautiful gifts, have a piece of homemade cake with a cuppa and help to save young lives in the process.” The craft fair is free to attend – although a discretionary donation on entry would be very much appreciated. All proceeds will go to the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust. For more information on the work of the Trust, visit www.jhmt.org.uk

Full steam ahead for Charnwood Let us know Community Lottery about your World War One events People are being urged to take a chance and make a difference by supporting Charnwood Community Lottery which launched recently.
Tickets for the lottery, which is being run by the borough council are now on sale and will help raise money for good causes, charities and voluntary organisations. For every £1 ticket, 60p will go towards helping a good cause and players can win up to £25,000. The lottery was launched at Great Central Railway in Loughborough which has kindly donated an extra prize for the very first draw. Chris Traill, strategic director for neighbourhoods and wellbeing at the Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to launch the Charnwood Community Lottery as it will help raise money for lots of good causes in the borough who do great work for the benefit of residents.
“The lottery also means people can choose to help a specific group, perhaps one that’s close to their hearts, and possibly win anything up to £25,000. We hope the lottery is empowering for the organisations involved and for ticket buyers. As we’ve said, people can take a chance and make a difference “We would like to thank the groups who have signed up so far but I would encourage the many other fantastic organisations in Charnwood to consider getting involved. Simply visit the lottery website for more information. “The Council decided to set up a lottery to further support the local voluntary and community sector.” A number of groups have already signed up to be involved including: • Loughborough Leggo Youth Group • Marios Tinenti Centre • Peter Le Marchant Trust • Quorn Local History Group • Coping with Cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland • Shepshed Toy Library • Anstey Community Library • Gorse Covert Community Centre • Citizens Advice Charnwood • Go-Getta CIC • Loughborough Wellbeing Centre CIC Ltd • Living Without Abuse • Above & Beyond • Grange Park Centre • Falcon Support Services • Glebe House (Charnwood) Ltd • Shepshed Dolphins Swimming Group Caroline Darrall, chairperson at Loughborough Leggo, said: “We are pleased to join the Charnwood Lottery as it is a creative and effective way to raise much-needed regular funding, during difficult financial times. The money raised will help our young people with special needs to reach their full potential.” The first Charnwood Community Lottery draw takes place on September 29, 2018. To mark the occasion, the lottery has two additional prizes, an iPad and a dining experience for two at Great Central Railway worth over £100. To buy a ticket, please visit www.charnwoodlottery.co.uk where you will be asked to create an account. When a participant chooses to support one of the registered charities or good causes, the organisation will receive a 50p donation, with 10p going towards a central community fund. If no charity is chosen, all 60 pence goes to the community fund. The council will use the community fund to support local projects and good causes through its grants scheme. Lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed to run the scheme, having already launched similar lotteries in places such as Melton Mowbray, Corby and Mansfield.
Charnwood Borough Council will be supporting a series of events on Sunday November 11 to mark 100 years since the end of World War One. In addition to the annual remembrance parade in Loughborough, a Charnwood Heritage Plaque will be unveiled in Loughborough Market Place as a lasting reminder of the soldiers who gathered there before going to war. Other events in the town centre include a live showcase event supported by a big screen in the Market Place, a tea dance and exhibition at Loughborough Town Hall, Century of Stories at Charnwood Museum and a procession of a life size model of Songster Charnwood’s very own warhorse which will be covered in poppies handmade by local school children. There will also be a lighting of a beacon in Queen’s Park at 7pm as part of a nationwide beacon lighting scheme. If you’re hosting a remembrance Sunday parade or are planning on lighting a beacon, please contact the Business Support Team on neighbourhoods.communities@ charnwood.gov.uk or by phone on 01509 634710. The Council will then add the information to its dedicated World War One commemoration webpage www.charnwood.gov.uk/WW1. The Council is also currently part way through a £280,000 conservation project on the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park in Loughborough which will be completed in time for November 11.

ANSTEY CHESS CLUB Anstey Chess Club run training sessions for beginners/improving players on Saturday mornings at Anstey Community Library from 10am-1pm. If you would like to learn to play chess, or you fancy a game or two, please come down! There will be no pressure to play competitively for us. A couple of our players haven't played since school (an undisclosed amount of years ago!), so you can turn up with little or no experience. We also meet occasionally on Thursday evenings at the Stadon Sports and Social Club in Anstey from 7:30pm. Please call or email to check that we'll be there. This is for more competitive chess that may not suit all players. New members more than welcome to either session - Grandmasters or just learning.
Harrod Cup update Thursday 6th September - We ended the tournament with a tricky away tie at Kirby Muxloe. I was in attendance as a non-playing captain and I got asked to show a new young lady, who was new to chess, the basics. The opposing captain asked me to teach her and I was more than happy to step in. Unfortunately, this means that I missed most of the games. Mick Sandham won both games on top board for us but unfortunately, both Mick Squire and John Whitmore lost both of their games (admittedly to much stronger opponents!). John Derry won one and lost one on the bottom board - John D's first win for the team - well done John!
Anstey Tenant delighted as home improvement contract gets underway A multi-million pound contract to deliver improvements to Charnwood Borough Council homes is underway. Anstey resident Ann Houghton was delighted to be the first person to have a new kitchen fitted by Fortem, the Council’s newly-appointed contractor.
We lost the match 5-3 and we finished in 8th place out of 10. My goal as captain was not to finish last, so we accomplished that. Whilst an 8th place finish is not spectacular, it is an achievement nevertheless. We have shown that we are there to be taken seriously.
First League Match Loughborough 3 (Away) Wednesday 19/9/18 - The excitement was brimming as we arrived at Loughborough's venue. The team was Mick Sandham, me, John Whitmore and John Derry. Both of the John's were there before me and Mick, which was good to see. League matches have a lot more time on the clock than the rapid-play time controls, therefore everything is a lot slower and you have a lot more time to think. John Whitmore was facing Graham Dyer - Graham often frequents our Saturday sessions, so it was nice for them to play one another - They are very familiar with each other's games! John finished first and came out on top in the competitive game - well done John. Next to finish was John Derry and he lost, which was a shame. More on that later. I was next to finish after a nice win, so we were 2-1 up with Mick Sandham to finish. I looked at Mick's board - he was in a worse position and resigned. We drew the match 2-2 which was a good result for our first game. Thursday 20th September - We had a club night at the Stadon. It was an excellent opportunity to talk to Mick Squire, Matt Wilson and John Derry about move notation - an essential requirement in league chess. Matt is a new name, having come through the Saturday sessions and being up for playing competitive chess and improving his game. He'll be making his competitive debut for us on Tuesday 25th September. We then looked at John Derry's game from the previous evening. John had played some excellent chess but made a couple of mistakes. We spent some time looking at them and hopefully helping him to improve. Me and Mick Sandham looked at Mick's game, then my game and called it a night.
October Club Nights/Fixtures We have two away games in October. On the 11th, we visit Kirby Muxloe and on the 16th, we are away at Syston. We will be at HOME on Thursday 25th, so please feel free to call in if you'd like to observe/play some friendly games. We are very likely to do some club nights in between, so give me a call or an email if you would like to pop along. Thank you! Finally a note for Jane Wood, if she is reading this. She has kindly donated a board and set to us free of charge, so a big thank you to Jane.

To mark the occasion, the Council’s lead member for major contracts, Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies and Trish Edwardes, chair of the Housing Management Advisory Board visited Miss Houghton to take a look at the work and present some flowers. Miss Houghton said: “My new kitchen is lovely; I’m really pleased with it and I can’t fault the workmen who fitted it. They were always polite and considerate while working in my home and finished the job as quickly as possible. “I was kept well informed from start to finish and the small details such as the trims on the edge of worktops and a UPVC window board make all the difference. I was also able to have a say on what I wanted which made it more of a personalised experience.” The kitchen features high gloss white cupboard fronts with stainless steel handles, white tiles and a smooth worktop. It has also been fitted with an accessible water switch to ensure water to the property can be turned off with ease. Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies, lead member for performance of major contracts said “I visited Miss Houghton’s home and I’m genuinely impressed with the quality of the kitchen, how it’s been fitted and Fortem’s communication with our tenant. “The contract was largely awarded on quality and it’s clear they have been able to deliver that with their first kitchen along with good customer engagement. “Fortem have had a positive start to their contract and I hope it continues with the other home improvements they’ll be making across the borough.” Fortem was awarded a five-year contract by Charnwood Borough Council earlier this year to deliver improvements, including new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems, to council homes across the borough

ROTHLEY/BIRSTALL BIRDWATCHING CLUB Tuesday, October 9th THE REEDBEDS OF WATERMEAD by Dale Osborne. The first meeting of our Winter/Spring programme is an illustrated talk by Dale Osborne Senior Ranger 0f Watermead Park. Dale has managed the reedbeds since 1990. We will learn how they were created, the importance of this habitat, what wildlife they attract and what the future holds for this fragile system. Tuesday, October 9th at 7.30 p.m. The Rothley Centre, 12 Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley, LE7 7PR. Members are free. Visitors £2.50. New members and visitors are always welcome. Ample free car parking on site.
Tuesday, November 13th LEVIATHANS AND LEOPARDS by Andy Smith. Andy is a keen birdwatcher and ringer. We are used to Andy taking us around his local patch, Thornton Reservoir, so this illustrated talk is something completely different. Sri Lanka is a lovely destination for birdwatching but he is going to give us a slightly different twist on its natural history. Tuesday, November 13th. At 7.30 p.m. The Rothley Centre, 12 Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley, LE7 7PR. Members are free. Visitors £2.50. New members and visitors are always welcome. Ample free car parking on site.

HAVE FUN & BE SAFE
THE MONDAY CLUB “Season of mists, and mellow fruitfulness.” John Keats’ famous poem “Ode to Autumn” expressed perfectly what we all feel instinctively as we appreciate the changing of the seasons around us. September was a chance for us to celebrate the eons-old significance of the harvest. Although some of our regular members were unable to attend this meeting, there was plenty of cheerfulness and camaraderie in our small group, as we firstly dealt with business and then enjoyed the chance to buy fresh garden produce, jam and home-made cakes from our fellow members. There were also many new items for the Sales Table, including some beautiful
hand-made decorative cards donated by a housebound well-wisher. When the last few bargains had been snapped up, we all settled down to enjoy a short demonstration of Indian head massage, presented by one of our members, who has studied different techniques which can relieve pain from stress and such conditions as arthritis. Some methods use plant oils, and light massage at the right place can be very helpful. As the lady performed the massage, she explained what she was doing, although normally a treatment would take longer. Our two volunteers both said they felt more relaxed and had enjoyed the attention. The lady, who had declined any fee, received a

Monday Club meetings start at 2.15pm on the second Monday of each month. New members and visitors are most welcome to meetings (please see local posters for details). On 8th October we shall hear from Mr David Walmsley, who was a prison officer for many years. On 12th November there will be a talk by the jeweller Cathy Stephens, and we look forward to seeing some examples of her company’s fine work. There may still be a few places left for the Christmas Dinner at Birstall Golf Club, which will be earlier than usual this year on 3rd December, accompanied by musical entertainment. Our programme for next year promises to be varied and interesting, and further details will soon be announced.

Thurcaston and Cropston Local History Society CROPSTONE HOUSE FARM Cropstone House Farm is the attractive stone-built building which is set back on the right hand side of Cropston Road, just as one leaves Cropston village. Anne Horton’s research revealed the amazing lives (and secrets) of many of its owners and tenants. In addition, the farm’s current owner, Stephen Burrows, was happy to add to Anne’s account, bringing the Society’s Members up-to-date with the family’s history. The Burrows Family have owned the house and land for over 80 years. Anne gave us details of previous owners of land in Cropston: probably a man called Cropp/Kroppr; another named Ulf, before the Norman Conquest; also Hugh de Grandmesnil, who received the estate as a gift from William the Conqueror around 1068; the Beaumonts and the de Quincys in the C12 and C13 ; the Ferrers family from 1264; and the Grey family from 1405 to 1925. In 1925, the Grey family put Cropstone House Farm up for sale and it was bought, for the sum of £8000, by local brothers Charles and Robert Moss. They later installed Alf Burrows as their tenant and this later resulted in the purchase of the house and land by the Burrows Family in 1937. They were a talented family, undertaking a range of occupations as identified by census data since 1841. They were identified as lacemakers, teachers, artists and farmers. Richard Burrows, who purchased the farm, was already a farmer. Anne’s account of individual family members was really interesting and was accompanied by some wonderful photographs. Of special note was Louie, daughter of Alfred and Louisa Burrows. Born in 1888, she was a head-teacher in a number of Leicestershire junior schools from 1908 and became well-known as a defender of women’s rights. In later life, she and her husband lived at The Garth (now The Cedars), in Thurcaston. Louie’s relationship with D.H. Lawrence resulted in his many visits to our local area. He claimed he had proposed to her on a train between Rothley and Quorn and his poem ‘Kisses on a Train’ bears witness, in typical D.H. Lawrence language, to that intimate moment. Louie is believed to be the woman on whom Ursula was based in ‘The Rainbow’. The relationship ended when Lawrence met another woman! Photos of Cropstone House Farm revealed a beautiful building with casement windows, a porch supported by ornamental columns, and additional wings. Stephen described the walls as being comprised of many different kinds of stones, held together with lime mortar He supplemented Anne’s research by showing us ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of some of the farm buildings –the Grain-store; the Chapel; the Mill; and the Stable, describing the alterations made as they were converted. The history of Cropstone House Farm is complex and fascinating – Anne and Stephen certainly helped to bring it to life! Our next meeting is on 16 October, when Georgina Maltby will talk about Theodora Salusbury, a Leicestershire Arts and Crafts stained glass artist. It will take place in the Harrison Room, All Saint’s Church Thurcaston at 7.30pm. Website: http://www.thurcastoncropstonhistory.org.uk
Apply now for 2019 secondary school places LEICESTERSHIRE parents and carers with children due to start at secondary school next year are being encouraged to apply for places at their preferred schools before October 31. They will also find an interactive ‘Your Guide to education’ online to help focus their search and shortlist up to three preferred schools. Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and families, said: “Last year 96% of Leicestershire parents submitted their application online and we encourage people to use this approach. “We also want to remind parents to maximise their opportunities by applying for three schools, including their catchment school. There is no automatic entry for any school, so it is very important for applications to be submitted before the closing date.” Open evenings held at schools, for parents and carers to view facilities and speak to the teachers, can be useful in helping determine which school is best for their child. Schools should be contacted directly, from the start of term and before the closing date, to find out more. Parents unable to apply online may download a form from the website (www.leicestershire.gov.uk/ education-and-children/schools-collegesandacademies/school-admissions), fill it in and post it by the closing date. Alternatively they may call the Customer Service Centre on 0116 305 6684 and request a form to be sent out.

Bring sites starting to be removed across the borough
Stepping Stones It’s time to break the silence around mental health at Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation Registered Charity Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation is spearheading a new mental health recovery group which will explore various strategies and mechanisms to enhance a journey to recovery. Louise Moore Principal Manager of the Foundation said ‘The sessions will provide a safe and inclusive setting for people living with anxiety or depression to learn ways to promote recovery and instil strategies for a calm and mindful future. She added ‘The sessions are facilitated by therapist and trained mental health nurse Toni Dring - workshops will include focusing on breath work, learning mindfulness techniques and sound and music therapy’ The drop in will take place every first and third Friday of the month from 10.00am – 1.00pm at Ulverscroft Manor, Priory Lane, Ulverscroft, Leicestershire, LE67 9PH.
The process to remove bring sites across Charnwood has started in a move which will save taxpayers around £20,000 a year. The Council announced plans earlier in the year to remove 79 glass and aluminium recycling banks at a number of locations. The recycling banks are no longer necessary as the materials can be recycled in the Council’s kerbside scheme.
A number of recycling banks have already been removed and the rest will be taken away throughout September and October.
The plans do not affect charity recycling banks which often collect clothing, shoes and books or the household waste and recycling sites operated by the county council.
Timetable for the day to include:• 10.00am - Informal drop in and activities. • 10.30am - Workshops exploring the coaching technique from 10.30am. (small charge applicable)
The move will leave 34 bring sites with recycling banks for textiles, glass and some other items. Matt Bradford, head of cleansing and open spaces at the Council, said: “The reality of the situation is these recycling banks simply duplicate the kerbside recycling service so we are confident there will not be any impact on recycling levels in the borough.
• 12noon - Social time and one to one session slots with Toni. Pre booking of workshops is advisable as spaces are limited. Workshops are charged at £3.00 pre booked and pre-paid – otherwise £4.00 payable on the day.
“To retain them means using taxpayers’ money to pay for something we do not really need and they were introduced 20 or 30 years ago when council recycling services were much more limited.”
For more information or to book a place on the workshop contact Support Services Manager Kathleen Wass on 07860639693 or the admin team on 01530 244914 (Please note Stepping Stones is subsidised by Leicestershire Adults Schools Union)
