August 2013 Newsletter

A hearty hallo from the coolest part of Africa! Summer is lurking just behind a few layers of icy clouds. Ok, we are sissies down here, we find 12ºC unbearably cold : ) But, we can start to celebrate as spring is unavoidably close. I wish we could say the same of insight and the disappearance of snake oil salesmen. Do read this article and beware of the new onslaught of 'Dianetics'. As if L. Ron Hubbert (1911-1986) and his 'Church of Scientology' did not trick enough people during his lifetime, his dubious & greedy legacy continues. Save money and time, rather go for a nature walk, join Pro Active Fitness, diarise all the upcoming festivals and book to see one of our beloved old Garage party favourites live in South Africa ~ Remember Smokie?

I am a Paleotarian Our version of Paleo is based around what Paleolithic man would have eaten 10 000 years ago. As there is no written record of what was eaten the Paleo way of eating has many interpretations. Taking a general overview of what would have been consumed by the hunter gatherer we can be pretty sure he ate meat that grazed on grass and he would have consumed vegetables and fruit. What was consumed would have been dictated by the region in which he lived and how far he was able to roam from his base. There would not have been grains or processed foods as we know them today. Dairy in its current form would also not have been available. With this way of living and foraging for food Paleo man is highly unlikely to have suffered from modern day ills such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Our version of Paleo is that of Primal as we add dairy to our plan. I call our way Paleotarian as we do not always add dairy. There are as many versions to this way of eating as there are experts. There are those pro and against. If you are pro and wanting to know more click below. If you are against, thanks for reading this far. So if you want to get healthy take control of your weight and as I have began to get my diabetes under control.
