But first the Braziilian riders have to determine on Friday evening the top 4 riders who would go through to the World Championship round on Saturday night. 10 riders rounding out the field including well known riders such as Fred Kyrillos, Gilmar Flores, Jeff Campacci and Marcelo Simoes. During the training, which was temporary paused due to rain the Brazilians showed how deep the talent pool runs. On Friday evening they were unfortunately cut short from beginning the Pre-Qualifying event when the rain set in in the early afternoon and intermittently delaying any attempt to start the event at night time in front of a near capacity filled arena. Fred Kyrillos was also rumoured to have a new trick he was ready to unleash at Caraguatatuba and with a solid bag of tricks, he could have set the cat amongst the pigeons with World Championship points between the top riders.

However Mother Nature played havoc with the 3rd outdoor event of the 2015 World Championship season with continual down-pouring of rain during practise and the main event day. The track crew around Frank Enders was prepared. Throughout the week leading into the event, weather forecasts were predicting rain to hang over the coastal city of Caraguatatuba, and with it the track crew prepared for all scenarios with coverings for the ramps and landing areas. Whenever the rain paused every available hand went out to prepare the track. Several times during the day there was hope that the long expected return of the NIGHT of the JUMPs could start as scheduled.

The decision to cancel the event will be particularly tough for reigning World Champion, Maikel Melero, who is looking to regain some control of the title race, as he trails behind David Rinaldo who is sitting in the lead with only 2 rounds left in the World Championship. On his birthday, Rob Adelberg was fired up to improve his position from 3rd overall and challenge the top contenders, after an impressive result with 3rd place at the last round in Shenzhen. Hannes Ackermann who made the biggest impact in the previous rounds in Shenzhen was a man on a mission, looking to cement his name as a serious contender for the round after landing his first Volt body varial and putting together arguably the best freestyle run we have seen from the 25 year old German on the tour after his many years of service. Rinaldo who was nursing a shoulder injury leading into this event is perhaps breathing a sigh of relief for now. But with only 2 rounds remaining and 40 championship points on offer for the rest of the season, it will be a battle between the 2013 World Champion David Rinaldo, 2014 World Champion Maikel Melero and the Australian rider, Rob Adelberg, who is hungry to make his mark. The next round will take place in Gdansk, Poland on 21st of November and the title race couldn’t be closer.
