In the annals of American sports, few names conjure up such instant fame and passion as Notre Dame Football.

NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL

The winningest team in college football history: 11 national championships, a record 7 Heisman Trophy winners, and 97 consensus All-Americans. More Notre Dame student-athletes have been drafted into the National Football League and enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame than any school in America. There is college football and then there is Notre Dame Football.

ENDOWING NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL Endowing Notre Dame Football is an opportunity to forever impact and associate with the most storied program in collegiate athletics. For the first time in the program’s 128-year history, University benefactors have the chance to put their name on playing and coaching positions through an endowment gift. Endowment funding creates a long-term solution to ensure Notre Dame is positioned to excel at the highest levels — now and forever.

RUNNING BACK From the incomparable George Gipp to Johnny Lattner, Rocky Bleier to Vagas Ferguson, and Anthony Johnson to Autry Denson, Notre Dame football teams have featured a stable of outstanding running backs, including perhaps the most famous “stable” of all — Don Miller, Jim Crowley, Elmer Layden, and Harry Stuhldreher — the Four Horsemen of Notre Dame. WIDE RECEIVER The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame have been blessed with terrific wide receivers, including Jim Seymour, Thom Gatewood, Jack Snow, Derrick Mayes, and more recent standouts Michael Floyd and Golden Tate. Not to mention the Notre Dame All-American who became the first wide receiver ever to win the Heisman Trophy — Tim Brown. Fighting Irish fans will never forget “Huarte to Snow” and “Hanratty to Seymour,” Rocket’s two kick-off return touchdown in No. 1 Notre Dame’s win over No. 2 Michigan in 1989, and Jeff Samardzija’s TOM GATEWOOD

TIGHT END

How many times have you heard the phrase “another great catch by the big tight end from Notre Dame” while watching an NFL football game during the past few decades? In many circles, Notre Dame is almost reverentially referred to as “Tight End U.” The list of Notre Dame’s tight ends is literally a “who’s who” at the position: Leon Hart, Dave Casper, Mark Bavaro, Ken McAfee, Tony Hunter, Anthony Fasano, John Carlson, Kyle Rudolph, and most recently Tyler Eifert. OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

The offensive line is a point of pride for Fighting Irish football teams. Over the years, All-Americans such as the Dinardo brothers (Larry & Gerry), Dave Huffman, John Scully, Andy Heck, Mirko Jurkovic, and Aaron Taylor have paved the way for great Notre Dame teams. Most recently, it was offensive lineman Zack Martin — a first round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys — who set Notre Dame’s all-time ZACK MARTIN

Martin was also the 13th former Notre Dame offensive lineman drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft and is now one of 141 former Notre Dame offensive lineman who have played in the NFL. SPECIALIST

The story of Notre Dame football might be quite different without the names of Reggie Ho, Craig Hentrich, Harry Oliver, John Carney, Hunter “The Punter” Smith, and long-snapper J.J. Jansen in the pages of its record books. Notre Dame fans everywhere reminisce about Harry Oliver’s 51-yard field goal “into the wind” to beat Michigan, one of the most thrilling finishes in the history of Notre Dame football. Many others remember REGGIE HO

that big night under the lights in 1988 when Reggie Ho nailed a 26-yarder with 73 seconds left, to help the Irish knock off No. 9 Michigan, and Irish fans will never forget Bob Thomas and his late game field goal to beat Alabama for the National Championship in the 1973 Sugar Bowl. SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT There are additional benefaction opportunities for donors who would like to make a significant gift to the Notre Dame Football program. These gifts will partially fund a grant-in-aid for a football studentathlete. Endowed gifts of $100,000+ are critical in supporting Irish studentathletes. Each endowed gift will be reinvested, and eventually, grow to have more and more of an impact. As gift levels increase, donors will also receive additional experiences and engagement with the Athletics Department (see page 41). Grant-in-aids are not fully funded, but the donor’s name will forever be attached to the endowment (eg. The Smith Family Football Scholarship). Scholarship endowments can be given at the following levels: •

$500,000

$250,000

$100,000
