HRISTMAS With Christmas approaching, we’ve taken one Nottingham resident, Georgie Ferrari, and given her a whole new look to ensure she’s camera ready for the festive season. Working with Icon Hair and Beauty and The Beauty Temple, we took Georgie off for a day of pampering and transformed her style.

so we firstly had to cleanse the existing colour to give the colourist an even base to work effectively from. Due to the bleach on the ends of the hair, we had to pre-pig the hair (introducing pigment back into the hair). Without doing this the lightened hair will not absorb the final colour correctly, causing an uneven coverage and discoloration.

“I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my dip-dyed hair for a while but had no idea how to go about it. I also don’t have much confidence when it comes to make up and I’m hesitant about trying new things!”

The final colour was then applied, with L’Oreal Extra Copper Red Blonde put through the entire head. A veiled horseshoe section was then taken and foil slices of colour were applied (a light copper brown and a copper blonde).

HAIR TRICKS

Icon Hair and Beauty, located on Level 3 in The Cornerhouse, have been treating the tresses of Nottingham residents for the past 12 years and here Kirk Hobster, hair stylist, explains how they achieved Georgie’s new style: “Georgie had previously coloured her hair herself

I used this selection of coppers to create a soft tonal effect. The slightly darker root area creates masses of shine. The ends are taken slightly lighter to prevent a look that can be too solid and heavy, thus creating a textured and wearable style.”

MAKE-UP MAGIC

Once her hair was blow-dried to perfection, Lindsay from the Beauty Temple took over to create a smokey, party-ready look. She said: “We used Bare Minerals makeup on Georgie to give her long-lasting coverage but to ensure it also allows her skin to breathe. We used the ‘Get Started’ light kit, which includes a primer for a flawless base. We then used a light foundation and enhanced the cheeks with blush, before locking in the foundation with a Mineral Veil. For the eyes we used ‘Drama’ and ‘Black Leather’ to create the party look. This was finished off with ‘Moxie’ lip gloss and lipstick to liven it up. Also, ‘Frame and Define’ were used on the brows to give definition to the face overall.

“I love my new look so much! The hair is so different but it’s great and not too high-maintenance either. I love my smoky eyes and now I know how to achieve this effect, I’ll be wearing it to all my Christmas parties.” 21

The Sounds of Christmas On Wednesdays and Sundays throughout December, there will be music to delight on the streets of Nottingham, including:Â A jazz trio - Powder Jazz - who will be performing on High Street (just outside Zara). Playing songs from the classic period of American Swing, Powder Jazz are known for their interpretations of Sinatra, King Cole, Fitzgerald and Armstrong favourites.

Stand back and enjoy the sounds of Giardino Strings - a String Quartet on Thurland Street. One of the UKâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s finest classical ensembles, these highly skilled musicians will be delighting shoppers and visitors to Nottingham with their conservatory-trained musical talents.

A brass trio from the Shirebrook Brass Band will be playing festive tunes on Thurland Street. Having reached the finals of the National Brass Band - Great Britain, they are sure to put on a show with their hip swaying, toe tapping musical numbers.

Blossom Street is a versatile and dynamic vocal ensemble of highly trained professional singers in their twenties. With Christmas carols and festive cheer, this well-known group will be entertaining the crowds with their impressive vocal range.

For the sauce 400g double cream 250ml Noilly Prat Vermouth or white wine 1 garlic clove, crushed 1 teaspoon dried sage 1 pinch cayenne pepper 1/2 lemon Salt and pepper to season

Preparation method 1 Pan fry monkfish in a little olive oil for 5- 6 mins, then add the mussels, sliced squid and prawns. 2 Cook for further 3 minutes, add scallops and season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. 3 Pour in Noilly Prat, add sage, cook for 1 minute then add the double cream and squeeze of lemon, cook for further 8 - 10 minutes. 4 While the cream is cooking, steam or boil samphire for 2 minutes and asparagus 5- 6 minutes in separate pans. 5 Drain samphire and asparagus, build a nest in centre of plate. 6 Arrange fish over the top and drizzle with the sauce. 7 Serve with crusty bread. 34

PARKING:

Quids In! Park for just ÂŁ1 at the Arndale and Mount Street car parks when you come into the city for late night shopping. Antalya specialise in the finest Turkish cuisine. Having been in Nottingham for over 25 years, all dishes are made according to tradition. Food is an important part of Turkish culture. Their celebrations involve family and friends sitting at long tables filled with a rich and varied number of dishes. Turkish cuisine is eclectic to say the least, this is partly due to the legacy of the Ottoman Empire which reigned for 600 years. The Imperial Palace’s kitchens brought chefs from all over the Empire to experiment with different ingredients, resulting in thousands of recipes which live on today in Turkey. Ottoman’s Favourite is one of these recipes, and features on Antalya’s new Christmas menu that is available throughout November and December, including Christmas day.

TTOMAN’S FAVOURITE METHOD

INGREDIENTS • 500g of raw chicken (cubed) • 1 courgette (grated) • 1 green pepper • 1 baby onion • 100g butter • 2 cloves of garlic (sliced) • 2 tablespoons of flour • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes • 250ml milk • 125g cheddar cheese (grated) • Olive oil • 1 glass of water • Salt and pepper • Mild chill flakes • Parsley (to garnish) *Ensure you have two saucepans ready to use

1 Heat the olive oil in a pan, and add the garlic and onion until it turns brown. 2 Add the cubed chicken and continue cooking. 3 Add salt, black pepper and mild chill flakes. 4 Continue cooking on low heat until the chicken is just turning white. 5 Add your chopped tomato puree to the chicken. 6 Continue cooking for another five minutes until sauce starts to sizzle. 7 Now add the glass of water and leave it on the heat for 30 minutes on medium heat until the chicken is cooked. 8 Once your chicken is cooked, move the pan from the cooker and leave it to settle for a few minutes. 9 Whilst your chicken is cooking, start preparing the sauce: • Melt the butter on the second pan, then gradually add the flour and start mixing straight away until it thickens. • Add the grated courgette and keep stirring for five minutes. • Slowly pour the milk. • As the mixture thickens, add the grated cheese. • Keep stirring until it starts sizzling then remove from the heat.

NOW TO SERVE

• First lay your courgette and cheese sauce onto the plate. • Then top it with your chicken sauté and sprinkle it with the parsley.
