WELCOME We’ve been delighted by the reaction so far from audiences and critics to our 2018 programme and are upping the ante with an autumn packed with even more ambitious productions. The season begins with our first in-house musical for years, Sweet Charity. Created and performed by a team of top West End talent this Broadway classic contains smash hit songs such as Hey Big Spender. This is followed by a modern classic, Kindertransport, marking the 80th anniversary of the government granting Jewish children safe passage to the UK. It’s a moving story of identity that still resonates today. Our grand finale is the epic The Madness of George III by Alan Bennett. The cast includes Olivier award-winners Mark Gatiss and Adrian Scarborough. We recently extended the run due to popular demand and we’re thrilled to be partnering with National Theatre Live to broadcast the production live from Nottingham into over 2,500 cinemas worldwide. We’ll also be hosting a special gala performance to celebrate our 70th anniversary. Following last year’s record-breaking pantomime, come and see Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood. Join a host of familiar faces for enchantment, laughter and Christmas cheer. As an alternative for younger children, The Elves and the Shoemaker delights in the Neville Studio. Off the stage, we continue to develop local theatre makers through our new Artist Development programme, Amplify, with a host of activities and opportunities. Starring Denise Black (Coronation Street, Queer as Folk) as Lil. “Didn’t it ever occur to you that I might have wanted to die with you. Because I did. I never wanted to live without you.” 1930s Germany: a young Jewish girl flees Nazi persecution on a train bound for England. Finding herself in a strange country and unable to speak the language, she must shed her past in order to survive an uncertain future. 1980s England: a woman sifts through the attic as she prepares for her daughter to leave home. Memories are unearthed among the boxes and questions must be answered about a life long-buried. When thousands of Jewish child refugees were transported from Europe to England during World War II, they left their parents behind to face an unclear fate. In this 80th anniversary year, Kindertransport asks pertinent questions about our responsibility to those in need right now, and tells a raw and poignant story about the past’s powerful hold over the present. If you had survived the horror of war, what lengths would you go to protect yourself from its painful memories? Director Designer Lighting Designer Composer/Sound Designer Casting Director

What’s On Autumn 2018
WED 12 DEC 2018 – SAT 5 JAN 2019
The kind shoemaker and his wife are very poor and only have one piece of leather left to make some shoes to sell. The shoemaker carefully cuts out the pieces of leather before going to bed, so he can make them into a pair of shoes in the morning. The next morning... what’s this? The pieces of leather are gone and, in their place, is the most beautiful pair of shoes in the world. The shoemaker and his wife sell the shoes, buy more leather, cut out the pieces ready for the next day and the same thing happens again... another pair of exquisite shoes. But who is making them? And what might they want in return? The Elves and the Shoemaker is a magical, festive retelling of the much-loved Brothers Grimm fairytale about kindness and the joy we get from helping each other. Following in the traditions of previous productions The Princess and the Frog and Town Mouse and Country Mouse, expect a show filled with fun and warmth as well as music, singing and plenty of chances to join in. BEING OLD FILM SCREENING
What’s it like being old? What do you do all day? What happens to your body? We know the stereotypes: cardigans, fluffy moccasins, a dodgy hip, the blue rinse, but what is it really like being old? Being Old gets to the heart of the question, examining the good and the bad of this very human experience. This verbatim piece will shine a light on the experiences of the elderly, through the charm of a child’s-eye view, in a beautifully insightful and funny film directed by Fiona Buffini.
