RESHAPE 15 WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION
organized by Noumena in partnership with IaaC Alumni [Inst. for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia] Fab Lab Barcelona Make in Italy_cdb Foundation
COMPETITION BRIEF I
n the digital landscape a new reality has started to shine by itself: the ubiquitous computing. The challenge is no longer to add a new digital object to our list of tools, but to dote faculty of processing data to our domestic elements. Ubiquitous computing proposes natural and constant interaction between users and environment, extending its influence in all fields of human phenomena, even in the more domestic and primary one: our body. In this context, disciplines as programming and electronics become highly transversal, blurring old boundaries and merging different fields of knowledge. Fashion has been already highly affected by this radical change. Therefore, clothes, shoes and other accessories can now incorporate elements of hardware and software, generating a peculiar mix between fashion and computation that is incredibly fertile and inspiring. Data becomes Beauty, Interaction becomes Emotion. As a result, a new esthetic is emerging. Reshape focuses on the definition of this language, proposing a new challenge to makers and designers: RESHAPE15| wearable technology competition.
WHAT WE EXPECT P
roposals will focus on the possibilities of wearable technology without any design limitation. Once again Reshape leaves to designers freedom and responsibility of their own choices. Nonetheless, all submission must reflect the mission of Reshape: merging ideas with fabrication processes and market viabilities. Fabrication strategies must be clear and reasonable, demonstrating a real control of the production process. The distributed network of fabrication of Reshape includes Fab Labs and Maker Space, all equipped with digital fabrication machines such as laser cutters, 3d printers, milling machines and robotics arms. Entries are required to rely on those machines as main tools for the fabrication process. Assembly method and production costs will also be taken into consideration in the evaluation process. All winner proposals will be awarded according to the prize pool. In addition to the economical prize, Reshape offers a unique e-commerce platform where the best design proposals will be presented and launched into the market. Designers will have then the possibility to sell their own products promoting their design on the international platform of Reshape. Reshape reserves the right to select the projects for the ecommerce platform.

OUR JURY
R
eshape is very pleased to introduce the international jury of the competition. A panel of experts from the fields of fashion and textile design, digital fabrication and computation, which will select the three winning projects.

EVALUATION The winning projects will be evaluated in the scale from 1 to 10 according to the following criteria: CONCEPT IDEA
FABRICABILITY
MARKET VIABILITY
Will be given significant attention to those projects which reconsider wearables in an inventive and experimental way, re-evaluating interconnections between users, digital fabrication, environment and data.
The design approach must present a clear fabrication strategy relying design solutions to digital fabrication tools available in a Fab Lab or Maker Space, as Reshape target is to merge both designing and making.
It is crucial to consider design and fabrication solutions economically feasible, giving a reasonable estimation for the overall design proposal and its market ability.

ORGANIZATION AND PARTNERS RESHAPE15 | wearable technology competition is organized by Noumena in partnership with IaaC, Fab Lab Barcelona and Make in Italy foundation. Noumena is a networking platform for design, research and education located in Italy and Spain, focused on the investigation between the boundaries of new digital paradigms and design strategies. IaaC is a cutting edge education and research center, dedicated to the development of an architecture capable of meeting the worldwide challenges of construction (of habitability) in the early 21st century. Fab Lab Barcelona is a center of production, investigation and education, which uses last generation computer-assisted design software. In the Fab Lab, you can manipulate materials according to digital instructions, using machines connected to computers. Specifically, you can create prototypes and scaled models for Architecture, Construction and Industrial Design. The Italian FabLab and Makers Foundation Make in Italy was created at the beginning of 2014 by Massimo Banzi, Carlo De Benedetti, and Riccardo Luna. The mission of the Make in Italy cdb Foundation is to support makers and, in particular, Italian FabLabs, helping them grow as well as helping those who want to open new ones. The competition includes several media partners as Rhinoceros3d, Archello, Cityvision 3ddreaming, Deleyva and Stampa3d Forum.
