MOTOR EXHIBITION UTRECHT Allow your heart for motorcycles to beat faster. NovaBike was present, just as last year, at the annual motorcycle exhibition held in Utrecht. It may be said that our presence has not gone unnoticed. The exhibition itself offers primarily a meeting place for all of the professional and interested motorcycle fanatics. Secondly is it also a great way to start the new motorcycle-season. The stand of NovaBike, which was granted to us as a support to our team, was located in hall 10. There was certainly no lack of curious and interested visitors which bombarded us with questions about our team and the vision behind it. Also many familiar faces paid us a warm visit, this to catch up and see and hear about the new developments within NovaBike itself. The amount of motorcycles and the new designs that were being showed was truly impressive. Too bad we couldn’t fire up our engine to make this picture complete.
4 - NovaBike Newsletter: March 2012
The exhibition was held over 4 days. Here we tried, as primary goal, to inform as many people as possible about our unique project. Despite the many small presentations and chats about the NovaBike itself there was a lot of listening from our side as well. Many skilled and highly experienced motorcycle fanatics gave us a lot of useful tips. Observing the new concepts of the large motorcycle companies is also a great way to come up with even better and more refreshing ideas. As conclusion it may be stated that racing on biofuel is still a very hot topic, one which embodies a large field of interest. People are generating more and more an environmental awareness, something that is of highest value in a team such as NovaBike. We certainly hope that for next year we are still able to attend such a wonderful exhibition, since it has reserved a place in our heart.

» Exhaust system
Bik eP rog res s
The final design of the exhaust system is finished and is being produced as we speak. This is done in cooperation with HGS company. As can be seen in the picture, the exhaust system is chosen as an underlying configuration. This configuration was chosen since the fuel tank and airbox will be positioned on top. Joao did for his Internship research on the optimal exhaust and came up with this design. After production NovaBike will be tuned on the test-dyno of HGS.
» Bodywork
In our body-department the tension is rising to finish all the part before the first race. The drawings are finished and many parts are already produced. Some parts however still have to be optimized. To ensure that enough fuel can be carried, a larger fuel tank will be integrated in the body, for this reason a whole new design had to be mad for the seat. However, due to the many side-activities an interim fuel tank is being made, this to meet the deadlines for the first race. Once the drawings are completely finalized the molds have to be made. Hereafter everything can be laminated, since everything will be produced out of carbon fiber. This is a great deal of work … there will be some short nights.
» Production of several subparts
To perform at the first race, many small subpart have to be designed and produced. These are, in comparison to our large concepts, less complicated and time consuming to produce. Despite this they are highly necessary. In the picture to the left, the holders for our batteries are being made, this with vacuum infusion at the faculty of Aerospace Engineering.

‘It was MOTOR magazine that informed me about the proposition of racing the NovaBike. To me it seemed a very fun challenge. I am very curious about the feeling of this bike and what the advantages are of riding on bio-fuel. Hugo van den Berg It is with great pleasure that we may announce that former GP driver, Hugo van den Berg, will handle the clip-ons of the NovaBike during several races. Due to several obligations, as editor of Motor Magazine, Randy van der Wal will not always be able to ride NovaBike. It is in such cases that Hugo will take over as driver.
His debut race on our Supermono will also be the first race of the ONK road-race., the 9th of april The expextations with Hugo as driver are higher as ever. The chance to obtain good results has never been se present.
This can be seen as quite remarkable, Hugo quitted racing as Grand Prix driver after the season of 2009. Despite this the Civil Engineering Student remained still very active on the track, this as mentor and trainer of several very talented and promising drivers.

NovaBike 03 MEMBERS
» My name is Ward Van Hout, I am a third year student in Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. I got in touch with the NovaBike Racing Team through Wolf Cavens who invited me on NovaBike’s yearly interest drink. Wolf was part of last year’s NovaBike02 team and also works on the design and construction of NovaBike03. I think the NovaBike-project really interested me because it combines innovative design and sustainability into a single concept. Isn’t it beautiful to show people that racing with bio-ethanol can compete with fossil fuel on a high level?!
» My name is Stefan Brone. The first time I heard about NovaBike was through a fellow student,Wolf, which is now also a fellow team member in NovaBike. I have always been very interested in everything that is designed to go fast. It is also for this reason that the concept behind NovaBike was very intriguing to me. I am now in my third year of Aerospace Engineering. Last year I chose to do my ‘minor’ in NovaBike and in such a way combine this experience with my studies. In NovaBike itself I am part of the bodywork department and did some research to the optimization concerning the intake of the bike. Next to this I am also responsible for some affairs concerning our promotion, like this newsletter. Up till now NovaBike proved itself as a very valuable learning experience. Team work is very important these days. Being able to cooperate, negotiate and compromise is something you just cannot learn in a college room. I truly hope that we will be successful in the new season,. Till than I can only state that I am very pleased to be part of such a wonderful team as NovaBike!
8 - NovaBike Newsletter: March 2012
In the team, I will be working on the CAD-design and production of the bodywork. Last semester I studied in the United States, where I was able to gain advanced knowledge in composite flight structures. The knowledge I gained will be of exceptional value during the production of NovaBike 03, as a big fraction of the bodywork is made out of carbon fiber composites. I sincerely hope to experience a wonderful and successful season with NovaBike. I trust our two pilots, Hugo van den Berg and Randy van der Wal, and I know that they will get the best out of NovaBike03! To conclude, I would like to wish all the race teams lots of luck, and may the best team win!

Âť K&N Engineering, a family run business of California, is the inventor and leading innovator of the reusable cotton gauze filter technology which is being used for many automotive applications. As a small company K&N Engineering started over 40 years ago. Today, as a global company, their offices are located in the UK and the Netherlands. K&N can be seen as both the sales and brand leader for performance filters. Nowadays, despite the fact that the large part in the current market still relies on the old-fashioned paper filter elements, a whole group of companies are following the lead of K&N. This can only be described as a filter revolution. Something which goes hand in hand with many environmental and performance advantages. K&N is still spearheading this revolution and has pushed the filter technology to new levels. The philosophy of K&N is that automotive performance does not have to have a shelf life, or to stand in odds with the quality of life of the consumer or others. As conclusion it can be stated that the filters of K&N have a meaningful contribution towards money savings, fuel savings and results in a reduction of the environmental waste. For these reasons K&N should become the standard concerning all air filters. It is also for these reasons that NovaBike is very pleased to receive these high performance filters as a support to our project.
