Dear Friends, Twenty-fifteen was an extraordinary year for our Club. We are honored to share with you what you helped us accomplish. We completed our building expansion and renovation within a one year time frame and the results are magnificent. We are grateful to have many partners in our community who worked with us to reach our goals. Our building campaign brought together year round and seasonal residents, local businesses and parents all raising funds for Nantucket’s youth and families. The project was completed on time and on budget. The campaign reached its goal; you, our generous donors, knew the importance of accomplishing our objective. We are delighted the increased square footage of the facility has caused a surge in daily attendance. With over 720 Nantucket students enrolled for the school year, we have 350 plus members entering our doors each day. We now have an enhanced opportunity and challenge to continue offering our after school programs to the island’s youth and are proud to fulfill our mission. Looking toward the future, our professional youth development staff are planning new Boys & Girls of America national programs to offer our members and are modifying current successful and popular programs. Our members continue to participate in a variety of educational, arts, recreational and athletic activities. A big thank you to the donors, staff and volunteers for your dedication; without you we would not be successful. The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club is stronger than ever due to our continually expanding community who comes together to donate time, resources, and talent in support of our important organization. who we are
Since 1945, the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club has been helping kids succeed through every walk of life. The Club means something different to every child who comes through our doors. Not just an afterschool program, we are a valuable resource; a helping hand, a place for organized athletics, a friend to talk to, a place to finish your last minute homework assignment, an opportunity to be creative, a place to seek guidance from a trusted mentor, and an overall safe place for our island’s children.

Throughout our fitness and recreation programs, Club members are given the opportunity to improve upon their overall fitness, find ways to positively use their leisure time, develop skills to aid in stress management, and a variety of ever important social skills. Youth learn at an early age the importance of teamwork, commitment, and the benefits of physical fitness.

education The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club strives to help the children of Nantucket succeed, not only academically, but by teaching life skills to become positive, productive citizens of our community. In our new Learning Center we offer a highly successful homework help program called Power Hour, and one on one tutoring assistance with a dedicated staff member or volunteer. In our Computer Center, favorites include Adobe Photoshop and Math Bingo.
“We love the Power Hour program. It allows our son, Andrew, to complete homework or read in a quiet, supervised atmosphere. Danny has been an important part of Andrew’s after school routine, helping him with homework questions. Once Andrew completes his homework he can participate in other club activities. arts Our Art Program allows youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing. Each year Club members perform a variety of talent shows and plays, and many participate in our “Dance Club.�

summer program Our Summer Program is eight weeks of programming. Children partake in a variety of activities including arts & crafts, beach trips, outdoor/ indoor sports, bike trips, and a variety of other field trips. To accommodate working parents, early drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. with programs beginning at 9 a.m. The camp day ends at 4 p.m.

Living on an isolated island can sometimes bring challenges to the young people of our community, making our job here at the Club even more important. It is our goal to help these kids have the same experiences and resources of those on the mainland, while also embracing the uniqueness of our island. Through our programs and the countless community collaborations we have formed, we are proud to offer our members the chance to experience a variety of activities, which without the Club, would not be possible for them.

The 2015 Sam Sylvia Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off on Sunday night with a festive cocktail party, held at Great Harbor Yacht Club. The evening gave participants a chance to enjoy light bites and cocktails, while mingling with fellow golfers and friends. A live and silent auction, as well as various raffles also took place, helping to raise crucial revenue for the Club and its programs. The tournament took place on Monday morning with a shotgun start at Sankaty Head Golf Club. The festive weekend came to an end with an awards luncheon, also held at Sankaty Head Golf Club.

The Tim Russert Summer Groove, is the Club’s largest, annual fundraiser, and one of the most sought after fundraising events of the season Guests enjoy a fantastic evening of wonderful food, fabulous music, non-stop dancing and most importantly, incredible generosity. The funds raised by the Summer Groove go directly towards funding necessary operating expenses, allowing the Club to open its doors to over 700 members each year. Tim Russert was a champion of the Club, our community, and was passionate about not only the children of Nantucket, but children and Boys & Girls Club’s everywhere. Each year a member of the Nantucket community who embodies these qualities, is awarded the Tim Russert Spirit of Hope Award.
