The Trust’s mission is to protect the unique character of the ’Sconset community through conservation of open land and preservation of historically and/or architecturally significant structures in and around the village.

A Message to Our Members

Fifteen years ago, the ’Sconset Trust began its first capital campaign. The end goal was to raise enough money to move the Lighthouse and save it from the eroding bluff. That campaign was an enormous success. In 2019, our caretaking was bolstered by an anonymous matching grant to endow a Lighthouse maintenance fund. We intend to preserve and protect our beloved icon.

Our second capital campaign saved 44 acres, what is now known as Ruddick Commons, from development at the west edge of the village of ’Sconset. This was another financial success, thanks to the generous involvement of the Trust’s membership and patrons.

The 2021 Annual Report reflects what could be called the Pandemic Campaign. All of you—our members, patrons and Board of Directors—contributed generously to the Trust, not to save the Lighthouse or save a specific property from development but to support all of the Trust’s mission preserving, conserving and protecting the character of ’Sconset. We could not be more grateful.

Highlighting the Magic of ’Sconset, the Trust’s primary fundraiser was celebrated virtually, “At Home Under the Light.” Starting early, with a teaser online auction of a Trek Go! e-bike in May, the 2021 Gala featured a virtual magic show with the amazing Brad Barton, as well as a full online auction offering such treasures as one-of-a-kind ’Sconset art and the opportunity to name a character in a book by bestselling author David Baldacci. Despite the virtual format, the ’Sconset Trust community turned out for sponsorships, raising more than $200,000 for the Trust’s work and demonstrating where the real magic of ’Sconset is found.

After a year’s hiatus, the ’Sconset Trust community came out in droves for the Jog in the Fog on July 24, 2021. In its fourth year, the 2021 Jog in the Fog sold out, with more than 41 families and 45 individual registrations yielding more than 200 participants. Numerous runners tackled the 4.05k course, winding from Ruddick Commons through the village and joining up with the walking contingent along Baxter Road. The event’s moniker failed to predict the weather this time, and the jubilant group enjoyed a sunshine celebration at the Sankaty Head Lighthouse finish line, where they were rewarded with congratulations, water, and treats.

We were grateful for the enthusiastic response to the event’s return and thank all who registered, ran, jogged, walked, and volunteered to make the event a rousing success for the ’Sconset Trust.
