2018 Lucas County Junior Fair King and Queen Contest Tuesday, July 10th 1:00p.m.

2018 LUCAS COUNTY JR. KING & QUEEN CONTEST Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 - 1:00p.m. in the Entertainment Tent

A Royal Court consisting of a King and a Queen, and attendants will represent the 2018 Lucas County Jr. Fair during Fair Week and throughout the year at other fairs, festivals, parades, and other various events and appearances.

Eligibility Any male or female, aged 16 to 18 as of January 1 of the year of the competition is eligible to compete. Participants must be a member of 4-H, FFA, FCCLA, DECA, Boy Scouts, or Girl Scouts who believe their involvement in the Lucas Co. Jr. Fair program, community, and leadership endeavors warrants recognition as a model Jr. Fair participant. Applicants must be currently involved in the Jr. Fair program, be unmarried nor have been married, not have born or fathered any children. Once crowded King or Queen you are ineligible for future competition.

Judging Rules and Criteria 1. Contestants must submit a photo, resume, essay, and cover letter to the King and Queen Superintendent at the Fair Office in Maumee which must be received by June 11, 2018.

Late or incomplete entries will not be accepted.

2. Judges will interview the contestants on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Interviews will start at 6pm. Attendance is required! You will receive more detailed information after the applications are received.

3. The new King and Queen will be crowned after the public interview of the finalists.

4. The new King, Queen and Runner-Ups are expected to maintain the dress and the poise of the position during the entire time of the fair.

5. All decisions of the judges will be final.

Looking for something small? We have a room that will hold 150 people. Not large enough? We have a building available from May 1- Sept. 30 that will hold 800 people (400 per side).

4-H Clubroom The 4-H Club Room is heated/air condi�oned and has recently been updated. It has a full kitchen and you can bring your own food we do not provide or require catering. It is the perfect size for birthday par�es, showers, diaper par�es, anniversary par�es and special occasions. Need a mee�ng space? This room can be rented during the week for a few hours for mee�ngs.

We have other buildings and green space available for corporate func�ons and organiza�onal fund raisers. We have something to fit almost everyone’s needs. Call the Fair Office for more informa�on or to take a tour. Let us help you plan your next event.

Lucas County Fairgrounds Indoor Winter Storage

The Lucas County Fairgrounds is the ideal loca�on to store your car, truck, camper, boat, motorcycle, trailer or motor home INDOORS during the harsh winter months.

Indoor storage rates are a one me fee (plus tax) from October 2017 to April 2018 Cars/trucks: $200 Motorcycles $150 All others vehicles: 30' = $10 per foot 31'-35' = $12 per foot 36' = $14 per foot

Space is limited and we have full buildings every year! Contact the Fairboard Office to reserve your space before you get shut out of these outstanding low rates.

The Arts & Cra�s Building (Green Building) This building is very rus�c with concrete floors and an open ra�er ceiling. There are plenty of doors and ceiling fans for circula�on. �ou can rent either the east or west side of the building or the en�re building for larger func�ons. This is a perfect rus�c se�ng for wedding recep�ons. We do not provide catering for this building and there is no kitchen or running water in this facility. However, there is water close by and bathrooms adjacent to the building. The outdoor space that comes with this building is a nice area to sit and relax.

Candidacy for the Office of Director Any member of the Lucas County Agricultural Society may declare his/her candidacy for the Office of Director by filing, with the Secretary of the Society, a pe��on signed by ten (10) or more members of the Society. Pe��on must be delivered to the Fair office on or by the office hours as posted. Pe��on forms will be provided by the Secretary of the Society and may be secured at the Fair office. A criminal background check is required. Contact the Fairboard office for addi�onal requirements and details.

Become a Member of the Lucas County Agricultural Society Any resident of Lucas County, Ohio, who is of legal age, may become a member of the Lucas County Agricultural Society by purchasing a membership pass. 2018 membership passes are on sale through Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fairboard Office.

Membership Passes - $25.00 Membership passes en�tle the member to six (6) admissions to the Lucas County Fair and free parking. Ride stamps must be purchased separately. As a member, you are also en�tled to vote at the annual elec�on.

Senior Fair Youth Entries - $3.00 All youths entering items into the Senior Fair (Green Building) and are not a 4-H or FFA.

General Rules and Regula ons

1. Compe��on open to the world, except where noted in the rules governing each department.

2. Upon applica�on of entries, every effort will be made to help exhibitor properly classify his or her exhibits. Exhibitors must deliver their exhibits to the proper loca�ons and place them in posi�on according to the Director in Charge.

3. All entries shall be made in the name of the bona fide owner.

4. Any exhibits or animals deemed unworthy will not be awarded premiums.

5. The Board of Directors will take reasonable precau�ons for the safety of persons and the reserva�on of livestock and ar�cles on exhibi�on, but will not be held responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.

6. Only entries for classes in this catalogue will be accepted.

7. No Senior Fair exhibit is to be removed before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday unless specifically noted in the department rules. Superintendents of all departments or their agents must be on the grounds between 8:00 a.m. and 12 midnight if necessary the day preceding the fair, to accept and arrange all exhibits.

8. Only officers of the Agricultural Society shall be informed of the number and kinds of entries being made.

9. All animals must be in such a place and at such a �me that the superintendent in charge shall direct and in accordance with the official program.

10. No ribbons or cards received at other fairs will be allowed on display at the Lucas County Fair.

11. Any exhibitors who interfere with the judge in any way during the delibera�ons will forfeit any and all premiums that may be awarded them.

12. Any exhibitor lodging a protest must first deposit $50.00 (non refundable) with the Secretary, which will be forfeited to the Society, if protest is not sustained. All protests must be in wri�ng, signed by the protester, and if it relates to the award, must be presented on the day the awards are made. The Board of Directors will hear all protests, and their decision shall be final.

13. The Board of Directors reserves the right to pro-rate premiums according to funds.

14. At the discre�on of the Fair Board, all premiums for all departments will be mailed, as soon a�er the fair as possible.

15. When the Society contracts to give exclusive privileges to any party to sell any ar�cle upon the grounds during the fair, the Society only obligates itself use diligence to prevent any infringement on said right, but will not be responsible for any viola�on of said right. Par�es owning privileges and knowing of any infringement of same must serve wri�en no�ce to the Secretary, giving names and witnesses.

16. Holders of concessions are themselves liable for any infrac�ons of law and have no claim on the Lucas County Agricultural Society for refunds of fees paid.

17. Posi�vely no bicycles or skateboards allowed on the fairgrounds during the Fair.

18. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the fairgrounds other than in the designated area.

19. Dogs must be on a leash at all �mes while on the fairgrounds. DOGS ARE ONLY ALLOWED WITHIN THE CAMPSITE AREAS! NO ANIMALS/PETS ARE ALLOWED OUTSIDE OF THE CAMPGROUND AREA. Service animals will be authorized as permi�ed by law.

20. No trailers are allowed on the grounds unless: a. They have a permit to be on the grounds. b. They meet approval from the Director in Charge of the Junior Fair Horse or Livestock department. c. They belong to an open class exhibitor.

21. Trailers that do not belong on the grounds will be removed from the grounds at the owner's expense.

22. No vehicles are permi�ed on the midway between 10:30 a.m. and 12 midnight.

23. A professional exterminator hired by the Lucas County Agricultural Society sprays all buildings. No one is authorized to spray any building other than the professional hired by the Fair Board. Any other person spraying in the buildings accepts full liability for their ac�ons and releases the Fair Board.

24. It is not the Lucas County Agricultural Society's intent to give exclusive privileges to anyone.

25. Any exhibitor who insults an employee of the Society, a Director or a judge shall forfeit all premiums and shall be excluded from exhibi�ng in the future.

26. Persons judging will not be allowed to exhibit in the departments they are judging.

27. If errors occur in the Official Fair Program and Premium Book, the Fair Board Execu�ve Commi�ee reserves the right to make awards in accordance with correctly stated premiums of similar classes.

Decisions of this commi�ee shall be final.

28. Premiums are awarded according to the Judge's sheets, which are turned in a�er judging. Any dispute by an exhibitor should be made to the director in charge of the department. If the dispute cannot be se�led, the exhibitor may send a le�er to the President, lis�ng the details, within sixty (60) days of the last day of the fair.

29. All exhibitors, including Junior Fair, will be sober and orderly at all �mes. Any viola�on to this rule shall warrant withholding of premiums and possible banning from future showing at the Lucas County Fair.

30. Viola�on of any of the General Rules and Regula�ons, misstatement of facts, or discourteous conduct toward a judge, director, or any fair employee, will exclude the exhibitor or concessionaire from the right to exhibit or have any concessions at future Lucas County Fairs.

Exhibitors and Concessionaires Rules and Regula ons 1. Every exhibitor must have an exhibitor or membership �cket. Membership �ckets can only be purchased by exhibitors living in Lucas County and will admit exhibitor and car into fairgrounds each day of the fair. An exhibitor �cket admits the exhibitor and car into the fairground six (6) �mes.

2. All exhibitor �ckets should be purchased prior to Monday, July 10, 2017.

3. A $4.00 worker's �cket (pass) can be purchased throughout the week of the fair. All concessionaires must have �ckets for all workers, including waitresses, waiters, cashiers, sales people, etc.

4. All food concessionaires must have valid County Health Cer�ficates and all delivery trucks must have a s�cker admi�ng driver and truck only to the grounds before 10:30 a.m. each day.

5. Trucks should enter the grounds at the South gate located on Key Street. With proper creden�als, truck s�ckers may be purchased at the fair office.

6. It is mandatory for people staying on the fairgrounds in vehicles of any kind, to register at the fair office upon arrival. A camping fee is charged and a permit will be issued to display at all �mes.

Lucas County Fairgrounds Camping & Parking Regula ons

Directors in Charge: Rick Hannum - hannumf@adelphia.net & Luke Ryan - ltryan@genoaschools.com In order to obtain a camping permit and to camp on the fairgrounds during the Lucas County Fair, you must be an exhibitor in the Senior Fair, an Advisor with members exhibi�ng at Jr. Livestock or Jr. Horse shows, or an exhibitor in the Jr. Fair Livestock or Jr. Fair Horse Shows, with a legal guardian staying with you. You must also have purchased at least one membership or weekly pass. Anyone planning to camp in a specific loca�on �horse, livestock, small animals) on the fairgrounds during the fair must get permission from the Director in Charge of the department. Camping/vehicle passes can only be purchased at the fair office prior to parking the camper/vehicle or pitching the tent. Camping/vehicle passes will be available upon mee�ng County regula�on. Campers, trailers and tents used for living purposes during the Lucas County Fair must be put in designated areas. Iden�fica�on will be issued and must be displayed on camper, vehicle or tent where it can always be seen.

Anyone purchasing a camper permit must be at least 21 years of age, must also be a member in good standing of the Lucas County Agricultural Society and must be the person staying at the campsite and camp at their site each night of the fair.

Anyone 20 years and under planning to camp must have at least one legal guardian in each camper, vehicle or tent used for the purpose of overnight camping.

No gray water is to be discharged on the ground, all discharge valves are to be closed and capped.

Sanitary waste is to be discharged only at the disposal sta on when you leave the grounds or in an approved portable tank made to transport waste from your site.

There is a 12:00 midnight curfew for the Lucas County Fair. This curfew will be strictly enforced.

No alcoholic beverages or wood fires are permi�ed at any me.

When parking a camper the following clearances must be checked prior to disconnec ng from the towing vehicle: a. From the back of the camper to a fence or building ten (10) feet b. From the side of the camper, slide out, bump out to the side lot line five (5) feet and campers shall be at least ten (10) feet apart No livestock trailers are permi�ed in any camping areas. Camping vehicles and tents may not be brought to the fairgrounds before Saturday, July 11 or as determined by the Director in Charge. All campsites must be kept clean and orderly. Tables and benches belonging to the Fair Board are not to be moved by anyone other than Fair employees.

The camp ground road will be closed during rain and inclement weather.

Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.

The Lucas County Fair Board reserves the right to tow any vehicle from the grounds at owner's expense and risk for failure to comply with any of the above rules. Any changes in camping areas, distances between campers, etc. will be posted in the fair office. Anyone found in viola�on of the Camping & �arking Regula�ons will not be permi�ed to camp at the following year's fair. Any par�cipants, vendors or patrons of the Lucas County Fair who will be using a golf cart or similar style or form of transporta�on on the fairgrounds are required to register your vehicle in the fair board office. You will need to show proof of insurance and purchase a $25.00 permit for the week of the fair. With this permit, you will agree to accept full responsibility for any damage caused by any driver of your vehicle. The person who purchases this permit is to be the sole driver of this transporta�on during the week of the fair. No form of transporta�on is allowed on the midway or in high traffic areas while the fair is open. Any viola�ons of these condi�ons will result in removal from the fairgrounds and your permit and fee are forfeited for the remainder of the fair. Failure to register will result in vehicle removal from the fairgrounds.

Ÿ Every full �me exhibitor must possess a current year LCAS exhibitor's pass or membership pass. Ÿ Each equine must be registered under an exhibitor. “Exhibitor” as used here means recognized owner. It does not refer to the animal's handler, rider, or driver. Ÿ MUST provide current Vet Papers. Ÿ Please read and abide to the State of Ohio Inspec�on and Health Requirements of Livestock Exhibited in Ohio located in this fair book. Ÿ Trailers used for feed and/or supplies may not take up more than one parking space along the east fence line. Ÿ All exhibitors must enter through the south gate of the fairgrounds nearest the railroad tracks on Key St. Full �me exhibitors are to be in place by Monday (prior to opening day) by 8pm through Sunday close of fair at 8pm. Ÿ All ponies/horses must show. ALL enter at their own risk. Youth must have parent/guardian's approval . Ÿ Animals are NOT permi�ed on the roadways around the fair grounds at any �me.

Arena Rules: Ÿ All animals must be led to and from the arena by an able person. Ÿ Equine may be turned out in the arena between the hours of 6am-10am. All horses must be supervised by owner or exhibitor ringside, with all gates locked/chained shut. This is a privilege. Ÿ Please respect the need for mul�ple equine to be turned out in this �me slot. Please turn out for a maximum �me of 15 minutes per two compa�ble equine. Ÿ Equine being ridden or shown have the right-a-way to the arena with no excep�ons.

Mul�ple departments use the arena, please respect the use for an event or show. Ÿ Equine maybe removed from the arena at the discre�on of the show management or LCAS board of director(s).

Stall Rules: DUE DATE FOR STALL ASSIGNMENTS IS JULY 1, 2018 Ÿ All stalls (including feed and grooming) will have a $5 fee for the week with LCAS membership or exhibitor's pass. Ÿ There will be a Tack Room fee of $25. Ÿ “Week” as being used here means Sunday prior to the opening of the LCF through Sunday day of fair closing.

Registra on Guidelines: Ÿ Each pony/horse must be registered under an exhibitor. Ÿ Registra�on closes day of show. Ÿ Weekday registra�on will be accepted at the fair office prior to day of show. Ÿ Saturday registra�on will only be accepted day of show. Ÿ You MUST REGISTER AS ONE NUMBER PER ONE EQUINE. Number MUST be displayed clearly while showing. Ÿ Day of show registra�on will be available no less than 2 hours prior to show beginning.

Show Rules: Ÿ Good sportsmanship is expected. Ÿ Judging is not based on any par�cular guidelines set by any organiza�on(ex: 4-H, breed, color, etc.). The classes will be scored by the discre�on and knowledge of the judge. Ÿ All are to abide by the judge's decision and ring steward's direc�on. Judge makes final decision. Ÿ All ponies/horses are subject to measurement at the judge's or director's discre�on. Ÿ Classes of likeness may be combined in order to fill a class ( 5 or more). Ÿ Saturday show premiums will be paid at the announcer's stand at the end of show.

Rider Divisions: Ÿ Based on rider capability to safely control the equine. Rider may not show in mul�ple Rider divisions. Ÿ Novice is a beginner rider at any age in their first or second year of showing (walk/trot/canter). Ÿ Open is any level of rider (walk/trot/canter). Ÿ Fun show exhibitors must wear riding appropriate a�re including but not limited to riding boots, helmet (encouraged..not required) shirt ( must at least cover shoulders) , jeans or show pants. High Point Award: Ÿ Tuesday and Thursday High Points are awarded to the Ride & Equine who accumulates the most points for a combined Tuesday & Thursday score. 2. All entries must be grown by the exhibitor.

Guidelines for Hor cultural Judging: Uniformity – Specimens should be uniform in size, shape and color. An exhibit that includes average specimens and one excep�onal specimen will not score as high as an exhibit of four average specimens.

Freedom from Defect – Specimens selected for exhibits should be free from defects, such as insect injury, disease injury, growth cracks, greening, mechanical injury and shriveling. Maturity – mature specimens are desirable, except when specified.

Size – Larger sized specimens generally rank higher than smaller sized specimens of the same quality.

True to Variety Name – Each specimen selected should be true to the name and characteris�cs of the variety being displayed.

Cleanliness – All specimens should be clean. �se a so� cloth or a so� brush for this purpose.

Vegetables should not be washed unless necessary to remove dirt. Vegetables should not be waxed or polished.

Presenta on – Exhibitors can add to the a�rac�veness of their exhibit by arranging the specimens neatly. Awards will be based upon how an exhibit compares to other exhibits within its class.

Instructions

Ÿ Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 8" or two 9" cake pans, and line them with Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ

parchment paper circles. Be sure your 9" pans are at least 2" deep.

For the cake: Place the stout and butter in a large, heavy saucepan, and heat until the butter melts. Remove the pan from the heat, and add the cocoa powder.

Whisk until the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool to room temperature.

Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sour cream.

Add the stout-cocoa mixture, mixing to combine.

Add the flour mixture and mix together at slow speed. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, and mix again for 1 minute.

Divide the batter equally among the prepared pans. (See tips section for hints on weighing out the batter if you have a kitchen scale.)

Bake the layers for 35 minutes for 8" pans, or 45 to 50 minutes for 9" pans, until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the cakes from the oven and cool on a rack for 10 minutes before turning the cakes out of their pans and returning to the rack to finish cooling completely before frosting.

For the frosting: Place the chopped chocolate in a large heatproof bowl. Bring the cream to a simmer in a heavy, medium-sized saucepan.

Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and stir until the mixture is completely smooth.

Stir in the vanilla. Refrigerate until the icing is spreadable, stirring occasionally, about 2 hours.

To assemble: Trim one cake layer to have a flat top, if necessary (otherwise the layer will crack when you place it upside down on your cake plate).

Line the edges of a serving plate with parchment or waxed paper to keep it clean, and then place the layer upside down on top. Spread 2/3 cup of the icing over just the top of the layer.

Top with another cake layer, top side down, and repeat the process. If you baked three layers, add that one also.

Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake. Remove the parchment or waxed paper. Sprinkle with shamrock sugar decorations, if you have them.

Department 12 Flowers Rules: 1. Adult exhibitors must purchase an exhibitor's pass or a membership pass in order to entry exhibits.

2. Entry is by pre-registra�on. In all sec�ons where class is determined by size and color, the exhibitor must list the specific classes they will be entering. Bring list of entries and number of entries. Entry commi�ee members will complete exhibit tags on the day of judging.

3. Please read the list carefully. If not sure where to place your entry, please ask any commi�ee member for assistance.

4. Flowers must be exhibited in clear glass containers of adequate size to prevent �pping. Foliage submerged in water should be removed. Containers must be proved by exhibitor.

5. Where there is only one entry in a class, the judge shall decide if a ribbon/money shall be awarded.

6. Director in charge reserves the right to reject all or part of an entry.

7. The Fair Board does not guarantee the safety of any ar�cle le� by the exhibitor, but will take every reasonable precau�on to ensure the safety of all exhibits.

2. Freedom from defects; Specimens selected for exhibit should be free from defects such as insect injury, disease injury, growth cracks, yellowing and wil�ng.

3. Maturity; All flowers should be at the best stage for immediate displaying when they are exhibited. Under-mature or overmature specimens are not desired.

4. Size; Average sized specimens rank higher than extremely large or extremely small specimens.

5. True to Variety Name; Each specimen should be true to the name and characteris�cs of the variety being displayed.

FFA/4-H Tallest Corn Stalk Contest: Judging: Wednesday at 10:00 am Arrival me: Project check in one hour before judging General Rules: 1. You may get a corn stalk from a farmer's field (with permission) or grow your own.

Growing your own gives you an opportunity to nurture and ferlize anyway you choose.

2. Stalk must have a root ball. The root ball must be in a 5-gallon or similar container that does not leak so the stalk can be watered.

3. Measurement will be from the top of the root ball to the tallest part of the stalk or tassel will be measured.

The last ac�vity is an easy, step-by-step guide to water bath canning your own applesauce! Members must have access to a current, reliable home food preserva�on guidebook.

671 How Does Your Garden Grow? This beginning-level project is designed for youth with limited or no experience in flower gardening. Youth are required to complete five ac�vi�es that guide decision-making and prepara�on of a flower garden, either in the ground or in containers. In the second year, youth should use a new project book to document decisions for a new and different garden.

691 – Vegetable Garden I - Exhibit one plate of vegetables – four (4) kinds of vegetables. Select two (2) specimens of each vegetable exhibited. An exhibit that includes four average specimens and one excep�onal specimen will not score as high as an exhibit for five average specimens.

Freedom from Defects – Specimens selected for exhibits should be free from defects such as insect injury, disease injury, growth cracks, air cracks, greening, mechanical injury and shriveling.

Maturity – All vegetables should be at the best stage for immediate consump�on when they are exhibited. Under-mature or over-mature specimens are not desirable, except when specified.

Size – Average sized specimens rank higher than then extremely large or extremely small specimens. In general, the size to exhibit should be determined by the size most acceptable to consumers unless the class is for large specimens.

Cleanliness – All specimens should be clean. Use a so� cloth or a so� brush for this purpose.

Vegetables should not be washed unless necessary to remove dirt.

True to Variety Name – Each specimen selected should be true to the name and characteris�cs of the variety being displayed.

Arrangements on the Plate – Exhibitors can add to the a�rac�veness of their exhibit by arranging the specimens neatly on the plate.

Lucas County Junior Fair Livestock Department Rules Exhibi on Rules: All Ohio State Livestock Exhibi on mandatory rules will be followed.

1. Members must par�cipate according to General Junior Fair Rules and Junior Fair Livestock Exhibi�on Rules. All exhibitors and one parent must a�end a mandatory Quality Assurance program 9days prior to Show. Market shows are par�al terminal and exhibitors must complete drug use no�fica�on forms on each market animal and turn them in to the Director in Charge at weigh-in. a.) Any exhibitor who has been subjected to disciplinary measures by the Agricultural Society and has not fulfilled them will be ineligible to exhibit at the Lucas County Fair.

2. Any youth enrolled in voca�onal home economics or agricultural educa�on in school may also enroll in 4-H club work, provided the 4-H project is not the same. a.) Eligibility for 4-H membership begins when a child is enrolled in kindergarten and is age 5 as of January 1 of the current year (Cloverbuds). Membership to the 4-H club program begins when a child is enrolled in 3rd grade and is at least age 8 as of January 1 of the current year. Ohio 4-H membership ends December 31 of the year in which an individual a�ains the age of 19. Membership begins when an eligible individual is enrolled in a club or group that is under the direc�on of a trained adult who has completed the OSUE volunteer selec�on process, and that is within the scope of Ohio State University Extension.

3. Proof of Ownership - All exhibitors are responsible for complete ownership and showing rights as evidence by a bill of sale or registra�on papers. Exhibitors are required to care and train their animals as outlined in their project books.

8. Health Regula ons - All livestock exhibits must comply with the current year Health Regula�ons prescribed by the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Industry (ODA) and the Lucas County Agricultural Society. The animals presented for exhibi�on must show no symptoms or evidence of an infec�ous or contagious disease. Species specific regula�ons appear in the department rules. Copies of the ODA Rules are available from the Senior Fair Director in Charge of Junior Fair Livestock and have been given to all advisors or their designees at LAB Mee�ngs. Where required, the health cer�ficate must be shown before the animal may be unloaded.

9. Arrival Time - All livestock exhibits must be completed and in place in Junior Fair Livestock Barn on Sunday, the week of fair, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. All livestock will enter through the south entrance on Key Street and will be examined by the vet Sunday evening.

10. Pen Assignments - Shall be made by the Junior/Senior Fair Board Director in Charge of that department prior to the �me the livestock are brought in. The exhibitor may not make pen changes without the permission of the Senior Fair Board Director or Department Head.

11. Livestock Exhibitor Responsibili es a. Each department official will expect courteous and orderly conduct by the exhibitors and their a�endants. Harassment, profanity or unsportsmanlike conduct toward fair officials, judges, show manager, help or exhibitors will not be tolerated. b. Each livestock exhibitor shall furnish his/her own feed and bedding as required by animal. Only wood chips or mulch may be used as bedding; straw bedding is not permi�ed for any livestock animal. c. All animals should be fed and watered before 11:00 a.m. each day. d. Livestock on exhibit must be clean, properly cared for, and properly groomed for the dura�on of the fair. e. Each exhibitor will assist with cleaning the livestock barn as assigned by the Senior Fair Board Director in Charge and the Junior Fair Livestock Commi�ee. f. Only Junior Fair exhibitors should feed, water, train, and groom exhibit animals during the Fair with a minimum of help from parents, advisors, family members, and other Lucas County 4-H or FFA members. It is the exhibitor's responsibility to register, in wri�ng, any other persons who assist in the care and prepara�on of the animals. g. Exhibitors must be present at the �me their animal is judged unless excused in advance by the Senior Fair Board Director in charge. Only the exhibitors in the class being shown, Junior Fair Board members in charge, Ringmaster and Judge shall be allowed in the ring at the �me of judging.

When an exhibitor has two projects in the same class, another ac�ve Lucas County 4-H or FFA member may show the animal(s) in the respec�ve market class only. i. Any exhibitor can receive Grand and Reserve Champion of any breed class (ie: Grand and Reserve Champion Market Lamb, or Grand and Reserve Champion Market Steer, etc). j. Viola�ons of Livestock Exhibitor Responsibili�es are determined by the Senior Fair Board and Junior Fair Commi�ee in consulta�on with Junior Fair Department Heads in the following order: 1. Only one wri�en warning will be issued to the exhibitor. Copies provided to parent and advisor.

2. Failure to comply with wri�en warning may result in any or all of the following: loss of premium, loss of trophies, loss of awards, and/or exemp�on of showing at the Lucas County Fair for the following year.

12. Official Weigh-In - Junior Fair market sheep, steers, swine, goats, pen of market chickens, turkeys, pen of market rabbits, beef feeders and dairy beef feeders weigh-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, the week of Fair. Only one weight will be allowed and it will be the official weight. Drug use no�fica�on forms must be turned in at weigh-in.

13. All animals must comply with show rules as of 9:00 a.m. Monday morning. Senior Fair Board Director in charge will be inspec�ng animals as they cross scales.

14. Showmanship a. Purpose - The purpose of a Showmanship Contest is to encourage young exhibitors to acquire skills and know-how in the handling of animals as well as to obtain informa�on and prac�ce in fi�ng and grooming animals for show. b. Eligibility - Livestock exhibitors are automa�cally enrolled in their showmanship classes. c. Showmanship Classes are broken down as follows: Junior - Ages 9-12 as of January 1; Intermediate - Ages 13-15 as of January 1; Senior - Ages 16-19 as of January 1. d. Each contestant must fit and show his own animal. During the course of the contest exhibitors may be asked by the judge to show some other animal. e. The animal used for showmanship must be entered and shown by the exhibitor in respec�ve breeding or market class in Junior Fair. Excep�ons will be made in extreme cases at the discre�on of the Senior Fair Board Director in charge and the respec�ve Department Head. f. Dress Code: Showman must wear boots, pants, and a dress shirt. T-shirts are not permi�ed for all Showmanship Classes. g. Criteria for judging Showmanship Contest - Consider these major points of emphasis: 1. The judge will observe the general all around ability and know-how the contestant demonstrates in the training and handling of animals, and the manner in which he/she presents his/her animals.

2. The judge will be looking for contestants who demonstrate the know-how to handle themselves in the show ring.

3. The judge will be looking for evidence that the contestants know how to fit and groom an animal.

4. The judge will appraise the contestant's knowledge and use of good show ring equipment as demonstrated by the equipment used and the skill in using it.

15. Champions - All market animals (steer, sheep, swine, goats, dairy feeder calves, turkeys, rabbit meat pens, and poultry meat pens) that place for Grand and Reserve Champion must be offered for sale in the Junior Fair Livestock Sale. All Grand and Reserve Champion Market Animals will be tested for tampering and/or misrepresenta�on of any kind. Grand and Reserve Champions of the market steer, sheep, swine, and goat classes must be slaughtered pursuant to the Ohio Livestock Tampering Rule.

16. Drug Tes ng - The Lucas County Agriculture Society shall have the right to require places 1 through 3 in each class of animals, or any other suspected animal, to be subject to examina�ons or tests as prescribed by the Society to determine if a substance has been administered to the animal to change the confirma�on or temperament of the animal. Should viola�on be discovered a�er the sale, all money shall be returned to the buyer and the animal or carcass shall be returned to the exhibitor.

17. Grievance Procedure – a. Protests must be in wri�ng and signed by party or par�es making the protest and filed with the Senior Fair Board Office by noon of the day following the incident being protested. A $50.00 non-refundable fee must accompany the protest. b. Livestock Advisory Board will review the protest with the accused, accuser, and any other needed areas before reaching a decision. c. A Judge's decision on class placing cannot be protested.

18. In the ques on of any rule viola on of any kind, the following due process will be used The exhibitor and/or par�es involved will be ques�oned by the Senior Fair Board Director in charge and the respec�ve Department Head. If it is felt that a rule viola�on has occurred, the fair officials will make recommenda�ons to the Senior Fair Execu�ve Board. A�er the Execu�ve Board hears the case and recommenda�ons presented by the fair officials, all par�es will have the right to present the case. Upon hearing the case, the Execu�ve Board will make a ruling. If sa�sfactory evidence is obtained by the Execu�ve Board that any of the livestock rules have been violated, the exhibitor and/or exhibitor's family may be barred from showing any species of livestock at the Lucas County Fair for a minimum period of one year or more, to be determined by the ruling of the Senior Fair Execu�ve Board. In case any premium shall have been awarded to animals shown in viola�on of the rules, the Lucas County Agricultural Society will require the exhibitor to refund all premiums, trophies, awards, ribbons, and sale money above appraisal price under such viola�on. If the carcass of the animal under viola�on is found to be unusable, the exhibitor will be required to take possession of the carcass and refund the market price of the animal to the purchase involved. The decision of the Senior Fair Execu�ve Board is final. Unless rules viola�ons are involved, all Championship placings stand.

7) Weigh – In for market rabbits will be Monday a�er large animal weigh in is complete.

Rabbits will be weighed in the Rabbit Exhibit aisle.

8) Rabbits shown in the market class may not be shown in the breeding class, but may be shown in the showmanship classes.

9) Each exhibitor is responsible for providing fresh, clean feed and water for their rabbits each day of the fair. Water is a number one priority. Please make water available to your rabbits at all �mes. Failure to do so will result in loss of premium.

10) All Rabbit exhibitors must bring their own bedding (wood shavings only) for their pen of rabbits; the livestock barn will not provide it for you. Bedding must be completely removed every-other-day.

2. To compete for Champion Pen of Three Market Chickens, the ideal total weight is 21 lbs., but there is no maximum weight limit. The Minimum weight for an individual bird is 4 lbs. There is no maximum weight for individual birds.

3. Market chickens ideal age will be approximately 7 weeks to reach ideal weight for show.

4. If poultry is purchased from NPIP cer��ed hatchery, no blood tests will be required.

Any non-NPIP poultry must have a blood test done within 90 days from the fair. Contact either Dr. Daniel Pon�us at 419-865-5026 or Kathy Holter at 419-343-1605.

5. Bill of sale showing that the birds came from an NPIP cer��ed hatchery and the date of purchase must be turned into the Dept. Head on Sunday when the birds arrive at the fairgrounds.

6. Market Turkey project will consist of 1 bird (1 Tom or 1 Hen).

7. The minimum weight for Tom turkeys is 20 lbs., and for Hens - 15 lbs. There is no maximum weight on either.

8. Ideal age to make weight: Toms - 18-20 weeks, Hens - 15-17 weeks.

9. Market Duck class is for a pen of 2 White Perkin/Jumbo Perkin Ducks.

Recommended minimum age is 10 weeks. the ideal age is 4 months. Ideal market weight per duck is 6-7 pounds.

10. Poultry Book, Project & Record Book is required for all Poultry Projects - each species must have a separate record page, feed tags, weights, learning experience (wri�en). Must show work individually for each species.

2. All market lambs exhibited must be slick shorn no earlier than two weeks before the start of fair.

3. Any market lamb showing evidence of tes�cular �ssue is not eligible any for Grand or Reserve Champion Class.

4. Using ice, ice packs, cold packs or cold compresses internally or externally is considered an unacceptable prac�ce. (Ref. Ohio's Livestock Tampering Exhibi�on Rules 901-19-13 G) 5. A total of three market sheep can be exhibited at the Lucas County Fair. A combina�on not to exceed two ewe lambs or two wether lambs is allowed. Any animal in viola�on will be disqualified from exhibi�on and the auc�on. The owner will be responsible for removing the animal at the release �me on Sunday night. Swine exhibited with too short of hair and sold to the packers could endanger the rela�onship between them and the LCAS. All market swine will be checked for hair length prior to weighing at a �me that is convenient for the Department Head and the Director in Charge. Any concerns about a pig's hair length a�er weighing in will need to be addressed by using the printed grievance procedure as stated in the Lucas County Fair Premium Book. No clipping of pigs will be allowed once they enter the fairgrounds. Any person or persons that clip a pig on the fairgrounds property will be subject to disqualifica�on from the show and auc�on. This will be strictly enforced. NO EXCEPTIONS. 3. Body dressings for exhibi�on swine: Products such as baby oil, vegetable oils, lard, hand cleaners and powders are not allowed as dressings for the exhibi�on. Products such as Sudden Impact, Swine Shine, Hog Heaven, Final Bloom and water that are labeled for swine are acceptable dressings for the exhibi�on.

4. Canes, whips, and plas�c pipes are acceptable to drive the hogs with.

5. A total of three swine can be exhibited at the Fair. A combina�on not to exceed 2 gilts or 2 barrows is allowed. Example would be two gilts and one barrow or two barrows and one gilt. Two pigs will be eligible to par�cipate in the auc�on. The remainder will receive the base bidder price only.

6. Sale order for swine is as follows: Overall Exhibitor, Grand Champion Market Hog, Reserve Champion Market Hog, remainder of pigs by club as determined in sale rules 7. Valid nega�ve PRV blood test result is not required to exhibit at the Junior Fair Swine Show.

8. The swine show is not terminal. Only the Grand & Reserve Champion Market Hogs Overall have to be sold at auc�on and harvested

Department Head: Sharon Winslow & Andrew Teet RULES: 1. All General Jr. Fair Rules and Jr. Fair Livestock Rules apply to Jr. Fair Goat Show (Dairy, Market, Breeding) 2. Market Goat Projects may be Does or Wethers (castrated males).

No Intact Males (bucks) will be shown.

3. All goats must have some sort of permanent iden��ca�on. Market goats require a scrapies tag. Dairy goats are preferably registered and have ta�oos in both ears, if they are not they also need a scrapies tag. Mea-Type Breeding Does that are registered must have ta�oos in both ears, and if they are not registered they must have a scrapies tag.

4. Breeding Does may have horns ; all other Goat Projects must be dehorned.

5. Breeding Goats will follow same rules as Market and Dairy Goats.

6. All goat projects brought to the fair must be exhibited in either Breeding, Market or Dairy Classes.

7. All Market Goats must weigh a minimum of 50 Lbs. Any market goats failing to meet weight requirement will show for grade only.

8. All Grand and Reserve Champion Market Goats must be sold at the Jr. Fair Livestock Auc�on.

9. All Market Goats placing 3rd and lower will be included in the auc�on sale, unless the exhibitor no��es the Department Head and the Junior Fair Auc�on O�ce immediately a�er the show.

10. Dress Code will vary depending on the type of goat being exhibited. For dairy goat exhibitors “show whites” are preferred, meaning a white shirt and white pants. For breeding and market goat exhibitors, jeans and a nice shirt (bu�on down, polo, etc.). Close toed shoes must be worn for exhibitor safety (shoes, leather boots, or work type boots).

11. All Exhibitors are responsible to keep their pens clean and animals cared for at all �mes during Fair Week or a dirty pen fee will be assigned.

12. Only wood shavings will be allowed as bedding for all goat project pens.

2018 Junior Fair Livestock Auc on Friday, 3:30 p.m. & 5:30 p.m.

Directors: Abby Sarks, Shane Warner, Luke Ryan & Chris Weimer Sale Order: Outstanding Exhibitors, followed by Grand & Reserve Champions, Order will then be determined by show placement.

Rules: 1. To be eligible for auc�on, animal must have shown in its market class. If the animal is not shown, it is not eligible for auc�on.

2. Checks for all champion animals will be held pending the drug tes�ng results from the State of Ohio.

All market exhibitors must complete a Drug �se �o�fica�on Form prior to weigh-in and amend it if necessary prior to sale.

3. Parents must be present at the �me of urine tes�ng for champion animals (will be done immediately a�er each show.)

4. Any market swine not off the grounds by midnight following the show are considered terminal and must be harvested thru the market selected by sale commi�ee. All des�na�ons for swine leaving the grounds early must be known by the auc�on commi�ee prior to removal.

5. Any exhibitor wishing to pull an animal from the auc�on must inform the auc�on commi�ee in wri�ng by Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Otherwise, the animal will go through the auc�on.

6. All des�na�ons of animals, except swine (see #4), (whether going home or on truck) must be made known in wri�ng to the Auc�on Office by Friday at 9am.

7. Exhibitors must be present when your animal is sold or it will not go through the auc�on. Excep�ons may be made at the discre�on of the Sr. Fair Director in Charge.

8. Exhibitors are responsible for wri�ng and mailing Thank You notes to all their buyers. The auc�on commi�ee will post addresses for Thank you lists by Saturday at 3pm. Members are responsible for providing their own Thank You notes and postage. Advisors should confirm that all Thank You notes are wri�en.

9. Official Sale Weight- Steers, Dairy Beef, Beef Feeders, Swine & Swine will be sold by their weight as of Monday's weigh-in. Each animal will be allowed one weigh-in.

11. Ownership of an animal will be considered lost if, a�er June 1 of current year, the animal has been consigned or sold through an auc�on or any other type transac�on, even if the exhibitor “buys back” his animal, according to Ohio State rules.

12. All steers that are halter broken and can be led safely may be sold in the Jr. Fair Livestock Sale.

13. Only grand champion and reserve champion animals will enter the sale ring with the exhibitor. For any other livestock entries, the exhibitor will enter the sale ring without his/her animal. Hanging Baskets and Po�ed Plants will s�ll be brought to the sale ring.

14. All livestock sold in Jr. Livestock Sale may be removed a�er 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.

15. Changes in procedure, prepara�ons for the sale or procedures a�er the sale are at the discre�on of the Fair Directors in Charge.

16. Auc�on commi�ee is not responsible for damage or loss of animal.

17. Payment must be made before removal of animal will be allowed with the excep�on of swine. Buyer must make arraignments for the transpor�ng of their animal.

Director in Charge: Chris Weimer Coordinator: Shannon Bird Rules: 1. This contest is open to the Outstanding Showman winners in each of the following livestock departments: rabbit, poultry, turkey, goat, horse, sheep, beef and swine and the winner of the horse department.

2. Previous Showmanship Sweepstakes winners are not eligible to compete again, but previous nonwinning par�cipants are eligible.

3. Each par�cipant is allowed to represent only one species of livestock per appearance in the contest. If the individual has earned the Senior Showmanship �tle in more than one species during the current fair, he/she will be required to decide which species they want to represent. If the runner-up cannot compete, the third place individual will then be eligible.

4. Par�cipants must declare which species they will represent by noon on Friday of Fair to Senior Fair Director in Charge- Chris Weimer.

5. The contest will be divided into the eight species using the correct showmanship techniques for each.

6. All par�cipants will show all eight species using the correct showmanship techniques for each.

7. Each judge will rate the par�cipants on a scale of one to ten, with one being the best and ten the worst.

The par�cipant with the lowest total combined score of the eight species will be the winner of the contest.

8. In case of a �e, tying par�cipants will draw two animals from one species and show the animals to break the �e. The species chosen for the �ebreaker cannot be one of the represented species involved in the �e.

9. Each par�cipant will receive a rose�e corresponding with their final placing in the contest.

10. All animals used in the contest will be chosen from the livestock exhibits. Owner permission must be obtained before the animal may be used. If a par�cipant's project is to be used in the contest, the par�cipant will not be allowed to use his or her own project/or a family member's project during the contest.
