Shipping
We are working very hard to minimize shipping costs while still ensuring quality product at your door. Feedback from the Spring has been that we are providing shipping costs as low as anyone in the business. Check the website for typical shipping costs to various locations. We are working in collaboration with Adam Beck @ Crossroads Genetics to help reduce shipping costs in 2 ways. When you order from both studs, you can have the order combined to ship from either stud. Semen must be per-ordered for combined shipping option. Pick-up of semen from either Premium Blend Genetics or Crossroads Genetics may be made at either location on the afternoon/evening of collection day. This will get the semen within 1 hour’s drive for much of Indiana and many parts of Ohio and Illinois.

Looking at the boars we have to offer, we could not be prouder and more confident in their ability to produce banner grabbers and breed improvers. They say nothing good ever happens after midnight – well we beg to differ in at least one instance as it was around 3:00 AM when we met Chris Jones in a hotel parking lot in Oklahoma to pick up Superman - and we think that will prove to be a very good thing. When Superman rolled out of the trailer and onto the paved hotel parking and we saw those steer legs reaching forward and looking like they were going to rip the pavement up as he planted them - we knew things had just changed and we were now being handed the best Berkshire we had ever seen – period – no debate – no question – not a close second. Royal blood runs thru his veins as Superman’s sire was Bar None – the Reserve Overall weanling at Duncan and his dam was the Champion Berk gilt @ Houston 2011. Superman and his littermates cut a wide swath thru Texas this spring. Six littermates shown – Superman wins 5 out of 6 Dark OPBs and comes to PBG – his littermate negative boar goes to Stephens (unfortunately passed away early) – 4 gilts shown stand 1st - 2nd & Champion Overall Purebred @ San Angelo and the other 2 go 1st -3rd & Champion Berk @ Houston. Makes us feel very good about predictability. Bred by Brian Bennett (Dublin TX) and Sarah Jones (Conroe TX). Watching the Hereford show at the Indiana State Fair the past few years, there have certainly been some very interesting Hereford’s being shown and when we see those kind start popping up we think the future could be really fun. So when Doug Loof gave us a call telling us he had the best Hereford boar that he has ever raised, we were definitely interested in checking him out. Rusty Gold is extreme in base width coming at you – feet and legs square to the ground and not only is he perfectly marked, Doug tells us the whole litter is as well. We think Rusty Gold has a shot to do some very cool things for the Hereford breed.

Night Shift 9-TO-5 X BATMAN • STRESS CARRIER RAISED BY TRIPLE L SHOWPIGS We received a call that we should come and check out the Triple L entry at the Bleedin Purple sale and are glad we made the short trip over to Richmond to take a look. Out of Fischer’s 9-to-5 Warfare son on a Batman dam, he is as square and correct as they come. He looks like he was manufactured with a level and a square with joints as clean as they get. Night Shift’s pasterns are up where they need to be and we think he will be able to help lots of issues there pretty fast. Growth pattern looks like he is going to be one that will let that bone develop while he cruises to weight. We think Night Shift will work great on big framed sows that need structure corrected while being able to add all the shape you would want.

Mayhem is a Hampshire boar that is flat out exciting to us. We picked Mayhem out the night before the show as the Hampshire boar we wanted to bring home from Louisville, and were very pleased when we were able to load him up. Why would anybody pay $9500 for a 2 month old Hamp boar? Our answer is - What would it take to own Black Ice if he looks like he did at the Extravaganza when he weighs 350 lbs? More than any other breed, we love trying to piece together Hampshires and we thought Black Ice would give us access to a very interesting piece to try to make it all fit together. We saw four things we loved about Black Ice – 1) front and rear toes that were short and evenly spread 2) naturally massive rib cage, 3) ideal rear hip design and 4) outcross to Model T. We have been asked more about the progress of Black Ice than any other boar we have purchased and early on our answer was – “we’ll see”. The answer now is – “This could get very interesting.” Karl told us we would need to be patient until about 200 lbs and then - watch out – and that is exactly how things have played out. If you have the Hamp addiction, Black Ice may become the drug of choice!

Alabama Outlaw is a littermate to the gilts we sold last fall that went on to win Grand Overall Gilt @ 2012 NJSA Western and Champion Hampshire @ 2012 OYE. AO’s sire – HomeBody - (Son of Newnum’s Reserve Overall Gilt @ 2009 NJSS) had a really good year in 2011-2012. For us he made Hampshires as correct and sound as any we have had in a long time. In addition to the NJSA Western Grand Overall Gilt and the OYE Grand Hampshire Gilt, he also sired our Reserve Grand Gilt @ the 2012 Indiana State Fair Open which judge Steve Rodibaugh said “If you haven’t tried raising a Hampshire gilt that is this correct and sound, you don’t understand how hard this is to do”. As the 2012 show season unfolds, Alabama Outlaw gets more and more valuable in our eyes as a really good option to get feet and legs back under Hamphires, while keeping the shape and muscle needed to win, but avoiding the dreaded bowling-ball joints. Our family roots run very deep in the Poland breed as that is where my Grandfather Chester Meal started in the purebred business in 1916. The Meal’s cut a pretty big swath in those days with their Polands showing 5 Polands to Grand Overall 4-H Barrow honors at the Indiana State Fair. We are committed to building our Poland herd to that same level of excellence. We went to Springfield hoping to find a great Poland boar to continue the building process and we hoped he would be an outcross to the great PSSS Nom Nom Nom. We heard about the Boicken boar very soon after we arrived and when we saw him we were pretty sure it was a Done Deal that he was the one we needed to bring home. This Poland boar is so opened up and stout from end to end, with great center body and mass. In addition to this, he has a very correct set to his angles and moves around the yard with ease. We are thrilled to own the boar we hope can move our herd and the Poland breed to new levels. Where DONE DEAL is good – width, and structure, he is really good! Judge Bill Range described this boar as being the Poland boar that can get things DONE where the Poland breed needs to get things DONE. We expect great things in the near future - we think it’s a DONE DEAL!

When our good friend Chris (SharkBait) Shinker told us how excited they were at A Cut Above about their new young spot herdsire - Change It Up, we jumped at the chance to own his full brother. This negative boar offers an interesting contrast to DOUBLE TAKE, and we feel we have two very good, but very different, Spot boars that can work on almost any spot female you are looking to breed. This guy is heavy, heavy boned, cool designed, and sound off both ends and does it in a very complete package. He is so complete and so sound and beautifully profiling that it tends to hide his extremes but then you take another look and you see his massive bone, and then you see how blown apart he is in his chest floor, and then you see muscle coming smoothly out of his blade and just exploding into his top and you just start to smile at what he might be able to do. We think he will be very versatile in being able to make boars, gilts, and barrows that will be competitive in the showring and breeding pen. We certainly have great respect and admiration for the Yorkshire breed but it is not one that we breed on a daily basis so we asked several Yorkshire breeders what they would be looking for in a Yorkshire boar to breed to their sows? The response was pretty consistent– get their pasterns up off the ground, moderate them so they don’t have to be 350 lbs to finish out, and get rid of their “jump” muscle. WELL - HERE YOU GO. To say we are very happy to have Cool Cell tucked away, settled in, and ready to roll would be a large understatement. He is moderate in his build, very wide and true front to rear, and boasts a very thick, expressive top that we think reads winning York showpigs. The traits that we think make him so unique for the Yorkshire breed are his expressive muscle shape, and that he has this shape without being too rigid or jumpy in his ham/loin junction. We invite you to come view the boars & the facilities on Monday September 3rd. Boars will be paraded at 10:00 AM and 5:00PM. Drake Purebredâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Sale is @ 1:00PM that same day in Rushville. Rushville is 10 miles from our home and we hope many will take the opportunity to stop by before or after the sale. The boar facility has plenty of room for parking trucks and trailers.
