Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, Colorado Year-round, the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch hosts weddings no matter the weather. Their facility has a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues perfect for hosting the ceremony and reception. The luxurious reputation of the Ritz-Carlton name is upheld with each wedding designed. The couple can also start with a wedding package and customize it to fit the personalities and desires of the couple. The amenities are enough to draw the wedding party and guests. The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch offers 180 guestrooms, the Bachelor Gulch Spa at The RitzCarlton, and naturalist programs that can involve stargazing, hikes, picnics and other adventures to cap off the wedding celebration and create an experience to remember for all your loved ones.

Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Avon, Colorado is located in the Colorado Rockies and sees an average snowfall of 310 inches annually and 300 days with sunshine, creating some of the best conditions for skiing and snowboarding. There are also Nordic centers nearby with trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Every season provides the beauty of nature and outdoor fun. During the spring, summer, and fall the ski slopes are open for a variety of activities, including hiking and mountain biking. The views at Bachelor Gulch are beyond picturesque.

Haiku Mill, Hawaii

Looking to have your ceremony in Hawaii? Haiku Mill is the place to go. Located on the Northshore of Maui, they have multiple venues choices ranging from beach side, in the vine covered ruins of the old mill, or in a valley which is easily recognizable from popular shows such as Lost and Jurassic Park.

Cabo San Lucas

This is prime territory for destination weddings. Simply search “destination weddings cabo san lucas all inclusive” and you’ll find a flood of beautiful resorts that have all inclusive weddings at a variety of landmark locations along the southern coast of the Baja. If you wish to find a resort to host the wedding and rent a luxury home to have family and friend stay.

Lisbon, Portugal

The Iberian Peninsula offers many perfect locations to hold your destination wedding, but have you ever considered Lisbon? This westernmost country in Europe has an incredible charm. The city is older than Rome and is the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos. Take some time to scout the top locations in the city for your wedding, then narrow it down. There are plenty of choices.

Haiku Mill

Como Lake, Italy

This dream-like destination is an idyllic backdrop for a destination wedding. The lakefront setting has plenty of diverse venues perfect for your wedding, no matter your personality and design tastes. Hire a boat and take your party to the water. Kick off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes as you say your vows. Rent an old church in a town square. But whatever you choose, bring on the romance.

Iceland A unique location, Iceland has a number of fantastic locations for weddings. The terrain, created from about 130 volcanoes will provide a background to remember. For an extra special experience, take your bridal party to the Blue Lagoon for the hot springs and spa treatments in preparation for the wedding day. Wedding planner Ann Peters is based in Iceland. She loves how adventurous she can be in planning weddings. “We emphasize on private offbeat locations versus tourist spots to provide our clients a truly unique experience rather than just a wedding day. In my heart, I’m always drawn to a secret waterfall that has an incredible glacier view behind it and surrounded by moss covered lava.”

Hotel Maria Cristina, A Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian, Spain

The Basque peninsula offers a beautiful location for weddings at the Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian. The hotel is located near the Bay of Biscay on the Urumea river. This five-star location doesn’t stop at beauty and luxury, they make sure their guests are well taken care of and it shows in their excellent reviews. Weddings can be customized to fit the couple’s desires for their big day. An unusual draw to the area is the surfing that happens on the Urumea river as the surf comes in from the bay. Perhaps your room will have views of the surfers on the river.

Belize

Belize is paradise. The warm, clear waters off the Gulf of Mexico, quiet islands, white sand beaches, palm trees...need I say more? Belize is a big location for destination weddings. One big benefit is there are many planners, photographers, caterers and more to make your wedding a memorable occasion. Airline tickets and lodging are affordable to this beach location, so friends and family can easily join your nuptial celebration.

Bucharest, Romania

If you’re looking for an elegant, old-world location for your wedding, book a room in the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania. The city is steeped in European history. However, this is one of the newer additions to the city. Visible from the moon, the palatial structure boasts more than 1,000 rooms, decked in the most luxurious finishes. Some of the spaces can be rented to hold weddings. Talk to a local wedding planner about making this your destination wedding location.

Thailand

Similar to Mexico or Belize, Thailand is a paradise. It is a popular destination for vacation and destination weddings. The tropical weather and warm waters offer a great place to double your wedding with a trip for your guests. It is also similar because it is big destination for weddings. This means there are plenty of local wedding planners to chose from when it comes to planning the details of your special day.

Beauty-full skin

ou’re getting married...Congratulations! As you start the planning process and in the chaos of it all there is one thing that a lot of people tend to neglect, their skin. Applying makeup on unhealthy skin is like building a house on uneven ground. Use this guide for do’s and don’ts for skin care in building up to your big day. Each of these steps are determined by climate of the destination for your wedding.

Exfoliation

There are a few things you need to consider before getting started: • Will it be in a dry or humid climate? • What is the weather going to be like? Hot or cold? • How far away is your wedding date? • How much time do you like to spend on your skin routine day and night? No matter where you live and where the wedding will be, you must consider these factors to create your skincare routine. There are products that work better for certain climates and skin types.

Avene has a great mild form of retinol that is a great jumping off point for those new to this ingredient, or for people who live in dry/cold areas. If you want a slightly more aggressive product, Skin Medica has different levels of retinol that don’t cause major flaking. Start out with the 0.5 percent and eventually work your way up from there. For those of you that live in more humid areas, you have a little more freedom of product choice and will protect you from any excessive irritation and flaking. While you will see great results with the two mentioned earlier, if you wanted to try a higher percentage to begin with, you should be fine.

Cleansers

No matter where you are, the Micellar Lotion by Avene is going to be a great option. It is perfect for traveling, because it doesn’t have to be used with water, so if you’re stuck on the plane or in an airport, this is the perfect option for you. Other great cleansers are Cleansing Complex by IS Clinical, and their Sanitas Lemon Cream Cleanser. PCA has a cleanser, Facial Wash for oily/problem skin to help strip any excess oil from your skin.

118

Exfoliation is very important because it stimulates cell turnover, which enables your products to penetrate the skin better. Depending on age and location, there are many options for you. Late twenties and older, should use a products with retinol. Always start on a lower dose to see how your skin reacts. There will always be about a two to four week period when you first start using it where you will have some mild flaking.

While those of you who are younger might not necessarily need retinol, you need exfoliation. The Tri Active Enzyme Scrub from IS Clinical is a perfect

alternative. It works best when used in the shower, because enzymes need steam to work at their best. I like to apply it to my face and scrub for about thirty seconds before I shave my legs and then leave on for an additional 3-5 minutes. There is also Active Serum by IS Clinical, which is great for anyone that is prone to breakouts.

Bioglycolic Creme helps to control oil while offering numerous antiaging benefits. For people in dry/cold and dry/hot climates, my favorite go-to is the The Max Stem Cell Creme by Image and the Peptiderm Creme by Sanitas. These both provide enough moisture and added skincare benefits to keep your skin healthy and supple.

Vitamin C Serum

Moisture Mists

This is what I refer to as the BLT of skincare. It will brighten, lighten and tighten your skin. It provides your daily protective antioxidant dose to shield your skin against cancer causing free radicals. There are tons of Vitamin C products, but there are some that are better for certain skin types and certain climates. If you are somewhere like Florida, I prefer Phyto C, Phyto Plus Gel, because it provides added antioxidants, and lightening agents like Kojic acid, which is great for sun lovers. For people who live in dry climates like Arizona or Colorado, I prefer one that also has really great hydrating properties. CE Ferulic by Skinceuticals is my top choice, and great for both the hot or cold months.

Hyaluronic Acid

No matter where you live, this should be a part of your routine. Hyaluronic Acid holds 1000 times it’s weight in water, without having a heavy base so you can maintain a glow without being shiny or feeling greasy. Hydrating B5 by Skinceuticals is one of my favorites, as well as Hydracool by IS Clinical. If you’re in a dry climate, you can use it day and night, in addition to your moisturizer. If it’s humid, you can use it as your moisturizer during the day, and in addition to your moisturizer at night. However you use it, just make sure it’s done everyday for the best results.

This is imperative for travel. The recycled air and stress of flying can extremely dry out your skin. They also are great for blending out makeup if you accidentally over applied your powder or foundation. Spray before your serums and moisturizer, after you put your makeup on to set your foundation, and all throughout the day whenever you feel your face getting tight. My go-to sprays are the Copper Firming Mist by IS Clinical and Thermal Spring Water by Avene.

Sunscreen!!!

It doesn’t matter where you live or will be for your wedding, this is a must everyday. Make sure that whichever one you purchase, its broad spectrum and an SPF of 30 or higher is the best. Broad spectrum means that it will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Elta MD makes great broad spectrum sunscreens for all skin types, even those who are prone to breakouts and offers tinted options. NIA 24/7 is another great brand with the added benefits of Niacin to repair sun damage. ∞

Moisturizers

Hot and humid climates can make people nervous to use moisturizers, but they are always necessary. There are plenty of options that aren’t heavy and won’t make you feel oily, and even some that are oil free. Jan Marino

Mother of the Bride By Lori Breedlove

For the mother of the bride, her daughter’s wedding day is one of the most important days in her life. This day is a gathering of friends, family and strangers who have all played important roles in usually both her own and her daughter’s lives. The day where a mother gives her daughter away, she stands up beautiful and proud. This is as much a milestone moment for mom as it is for her daughter. The mother’s moment, her bright light comes from her daughter’s glow as her daughter’s success and happiness on this day are an extension of her own. It’s a symbiotic and symbolic light. The mother of the bride will have some of the best pictures of her life from her daughter’s wedding. It is the perfect occasion for a mother to dress up, have her hair and nails done, her makeup professionally done and shoes purchased to match her look while a professional photographer captures it all. All of these things are done for one perfect day, so she should find what makes her look her best, as she stands next to her daughter on the happiest day of her child’s life. The makings of the perfect mother of the bride’s attire should honor her status while flattering her daughter’s

wedding dress. Depending on the location and venue, casual but elegant will compliment modest or destination weddings while more formal ensembles will always remain a traditional choice. Denver fashion designer, Brooks creates modern, elegant, made-to-order couture wedding gowns as well as mother-of the bride and mother-ofthe-groom dresses, evening gowns and ensembles. All creations from Brooks are sewn and designed by her personally at her location in LoDo, Denver, CO. 121

Fittings took place in New York, the UK and Milan, with FaceTime and phone calls bridging the gap. The result was nothing short of breathtaking. A unique marriage of tradition and sexiness, the gown featured fine Chantilly lace from bodice to train, a laced corset, fitted long sleeves and ornate floral appliqué, reflecting both the bride’s vivaciousness and her traditional values. “DRESSING JANE ZHANG AND HER BRIDESMAIDS FOR HER WEDDING WAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE. I DESIGNED THE DRESSES TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE TASTE AND PERSONALITY OF EACH OF THEM, WHILE KEEPING IT TRUE TO MY STYLE.” — TONY WARD into a true queen. The decadent handmade bridal creation was from the Couture Fall/Winter 2016/2017 collection was just as much a piece of art as the centuries-old frescoes that adorn the castle walls. Requiring 350 hours of careful work, hundreds of layers of silk organza were embroidered with pearls and crystals by those who work in Tony Ward’s atelier. Jane’s bridal party, comprised of her four friends, received the royal treatment from Tony Ward as well. Her bridal party was complete with actress, model and singer Liu Yifei; actress and singer Wang Luodan; singer Tan Weiwei; and singer-songwriter

Pan Chen. With such an accomplished group, nothing would be more fitting. They each wore a custom Tony Ward silk gown, and the designs varied slightly to match the personality of each woman. Ward explained that the dresses were unique “featuring a different cut and shape: a romantic look with fluent skirt, a chic and elegant dress with V-neckline, a passionate unusual look with asymmetrical cuts and a sweet feminine short/long.” The lilac hue used for all of the dresses was a perfect compliment to the

delicate and divine lavender flowers dripping from the castle. Each gown was also hand-embroidered with floral designs in yellow, green and purple crystals and sequins that tied each of the four dresses together expertly. The wedding festivities would not be complete without a stunning, embellished, red tulle from the Tony Ward Fall/Winter 2016/2017 Readyto-Wear collection. The dress was a striking and splendid contrast to the full bridal gown and the cool pastel hues of the wedding day while still echoing the opulence of the affair. The dress also matched the red velvet jacket of Michael Feng Ke, tying the colors to create a wonderfully coordinated ensemble. ∞

AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVID TUTERA By Rebecca Marie

David Tutera is a celebrated artist the world has known to come and love. His design value started his career and has catapulted him to an international success designing for celebrities, beautiful brides, designing with Mon Cheri and hosting television hit shows such as My Fair Wedding with David Tutera and WE TV’s show, David Tutera’s CELEBrations. His grandfather helped encourage David at age 19 to pursue his dreams, and he did just that. Today he owns an award winning planning company and travels the world speaking to brides coaching their wedding ideas with Cake Boss, Preston Bailey and other wedding celebs. Our exclusive interview offers an up close and personal view of his spectacular design insight. RM: What has been your most memorable destination wedding design experience? DT: I had a celebrity client wedding in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef—which is one of the most beautiful places, so we of course used Mother Nature as the inspiration and backdrop, while accenting it with slight pops of color, and we brought in a ton of candlelight to really set the ambiance on the beach. It was perfection. RM: What are your thoughts on destination weddings? Do you have any tips for our readers? DT: People always think you have to go the distance and be at the beach, in the

Caribbean or halfway across the world in order have a destination wedding, when a destination wedding could very well be right in your own country and your own state for that matter. I would have my couple weigh the pros and cons, while considering their budget of course. Keeping your wedding within your country keeps your costs lower and has a lot of added benefits including more guests being able to attend and easy communication, while being abroad can present other challenges, like language barriers and peak seasons that can incur added costs for not only the couple, but also their guests. Vendor fees will always vary, and you’d of course have to consider whether you’d want to bring your own vendors from home (which will always incur added travel costs) versus hiring local recommended vendors at your destination. For destination weddings I always recommend hiring a planner, as they can tackle any of the challenges that the client may face on their own. Planners also have a wide array of contacts and vendor recommendations that they can offer, especially planners such as myself who plan destination events all over the world. RM: What are some of the most important elements you like to use when designing an event or wedding? DT: One of the most important elements to help me design an event is the inspiration I draw from the couple/guest of honor—their personalities, passions,

their love story and their background. RM: For spring and summer weddings what do you recommend for florals? DT: Always use a floral that is in season to get the most bang for your buck! Great floral for spring and summer would include roses, lilacs, which also offer a great scent, peonies, sunflowers and hydrangea. Also be sure to consider floral and greenery that can withstand the heat, especially for outdoor weddings, like calla lilies, orchids, succulents and moss. RM: Describe your perfect client and qualities you hope couples have to bring to the working relationship? DT: A client that knows what they want and relays it from the start; yet is open to guidance, creative direction and suggestions along the way. A client that I click with and who ‘gets it’ while trusting in me as the planner and designer to fully bring their vision to life, without having to worry about a thing. RM: What tips can you suggest to brides to affordably consider bringing their wedding to the next level? DT: You can easily take a wedding to the next level just by changing small things, like the lighting. This is something that so many DIY brides overlook, but it is such an important part of the event. Lighting sets the mood, compliments the rest of your décor, and makes everything feel more romantic and high-

end. One of my favorite things to do is change the color of the lighting throughout the night, starting with something warm and welcoming and cooling it down as the party heats up. It’s an easy and inexpensive décor element (many DJs will even throw it in with their normal package) but it makes all the difference in the world and really amps up your venue. RM: What is the most difficult aspect to planning a destination wedding? DT: Not being familiar with the location or the vendors, especially if communication is a challenge. RM: Please tell us some of your favorite highlights from ‘David Tutera’s

154

CELEBrations’? DT: Meeting one of my favorite idols, Vanessa Williams was a moment in itself; I must say I was a bit star-struck! And so honored, of course to have planned her bridal shower. RM: In designing gowns for Mon Cheri, what are some of your favorite designs for beach and resort brides? DT: Some of my favorite gowns in my collection that are perfect for beach and resort brides would have to be my Neela gown, Kula gown, Dory gown (which comes in a sea mist blue shade to compliment the backdrop of the ocean) and lastly, my Lyra dress, which is a stunning two-piece dress and so perfect

for an elegant beach bride who wants to change up her look at the reception. These gowns represent an elegant feel, while still remaining light and airy in their looks. RM: What are some of your favorite trends you would start for the New Year? DT: In 2017 we’ll be seeing lots of clean lines, geometric shapes and white along with organic components like succulents, smilax, petrified wood and moss taking center stage. ∞

“Destination weddings are an amazing way to celebrate the most important day in couple’s life with the nearest and dearest friends and family. It often provides for a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. And with people gathered from all over the world, [the location] makes it not only an unforgettable celebration, but also a beautiful holiday full of fun and happiness. For that reason destination weddings are so favored by jet setters and travel lovers,” The Wedding Bliss Thailand Team
