HAUTE COUTURE WEEK BY REBECCAMARIE
When July comes around, all of the fashion world comes together to
watch the latest runway fashions, filled with the excitement of seeing some of our favorite models walk in the most luxurious haute couture pieces and styled with beautiful makeup and hair. The designers have spent months designing every detail, creating and constructing their collections, and organizing an event that will leave media talking for seasons, even generations to come. The 2019-2020 collections launched during one incredible and busy week with inspired collections by Georges Chakra, Tony Ward, Dior, Versace, Ralph & Russo, Zuhair Murad and many more.
Other designers created magic, such as Tony Ward - the many intriguing shapes of fungi fascinated the designer and lead him to explore the mystical world of mushrooms, creating the hypnotic collection: Blossoming Fibers. The gowns’ layers and voluminous shapes flowed on the runway in an array of intense reds and turquoise - even the pieces in white and neutral tones seemed to shimmer as if the viewer was in a psychedelic trance.
Zuhair Murad was inspired by Morocco, and the collection “Mirages and Oasis,” was unveiled in Paris, featuring colors of violet and gold. Glitter and sequins were used to embellish capes and jackets and pieces were
In an exclusive interview with the sought after designer Georges Chakra - who has dressed red carpet celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively, Sofia Vergara (to name a few), was featured in the 2006 hit movie The Devil Wears Prada, starring Academy Awardwinning actress Meryl Streep, and royalty since before the pinnacle of his career - I had the opportunity to hear a little more about his inspiration.

When Celia Kritharioti’s curtains were drawn, there emerged a ballet performance to open her collection, reflecting back to her youth reminiscent of innocence and happiness. Silk, tulle, lace, organza and velvet appeared on the catwalk, and ostrich plumes - one of the designers favorite materials - were re-introduced in this collection, creating her

makeup and hair. Georges: “The colors in the collection are so vibrant so we wanted the beauty to be fresh and as natural as possible. It is an uncomplicated beauty look, but a lot went into creating dewy faces. A quick messy low bun puts into focus the hair accessories; a plush satin headband encrusted with large black stones and small Swarovski crystals. My favorite part is the “voilette” (the veil on the head). We actually contacted one of the oldest manufacturers of this “voile” in Paris; They needed to be truly authentic.” Magnifique!

legend of Nordic folklore. The collection follows the journey of a peasant maiden, who is in pursuit of true love, and embarks on a relentless quest to save a prince and present in a castle that lies east of the sun and west of the moon. Hence the title of the collection “East of the Sun and West of the Moon.” One of the designer’s couture dresses had embroidered upon it a map symbolizing her journey. Every season people all over the world are fascinated by the designers who create and bring to life an imaginative idea that translates into fashion. What better to see than a story laid out in a design that is one of a kind and truly magnificent.

B A ISER FO U THE NEW FRAGRANCE
CANNES 72nd By Amy Rivers
The Cannes Film Festival, one of
the world’s most widely publicized events, as well as the most important film festival in terms of global impact, celebrated its 72nd year in May of 2019. There were smiles abounding, along with laughter, tears, and thunderous applause as the stars of cinema, old and new, gathered to explore, discover, and laud this year’s accomplishments in film. The most revered personalities in cinema, as well as the newest film talent, were represented in a variety of films selected and judged by a jury of esteemed film professionals from around the world. South Korean director Bong Joon-ho accepted the Palme d’Or for his feature film, “Parasite”. Award for Best Screenplay went to “Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu (Portrait of a Lady on Fire)”, and the Palme d’OrShort Film went to “The Distance Between Us and The Sky”, written and directed by Vasilis Kekatos. Emily Beecham won the Award for Best Actress for her work in the science-fiction drama, “Little Joe”, and Antonio Banderas received the Best Actor Award for his role in “Dolor Y Gloria”.
French model and Miss France 2018 Maeva Coucke looked beautiful at the Premiere of “Les Plus Belles Années D’une Vie” by Claude Lelouch, in a Georges Chakra yellow sleeveless silk chiffon gown with beaded mesh bodice accents.

For her first narrative feature, “Atlantics”, French-Senegalese director, Mati Diop, won the Grand Prix award. This was her first time at Cannes and as the first black woman in competition in the festival’s 72-year history. The jury prize (third place) was shared between two film: “Les Miserables” by Ladj Ly and “Bacurau” by previous Palm d’Or winners, Brazilian duo Kleber Mendonca Filho and Juliano Dornelles. Elle Fanning attended as youngest Juror, and made the most of the red carpet wearing a few favorites of the week. One favorite was a delicate white Reem Acra gown with matching cape to attend the premiere of The Specials and Closing Ceremony. Victoria Secret model Jasmine Tookes wore a stunning tangerine Georges Chakra tie-dyed gown with a gathered ruffled shoulder detail from the 2019 Spring Summer Couture Collection. It was a star studded celebration of inspiring talent in film, and a socially conscious festival to remember.

Paris Fashion Week - Fall 2019-
Ready to Wear By Sage Foley
W
hen a show is presented at Paris Fashion Week, it has the responsibility of carrying on the long lineage of its house while ensuring its foothold in a world that demands innovation. Even though it is comprised of many distinctly individual designers, the fashion industry moves towards this innovation as a whole, particularly when it comes to Ready to Wear, so that from one year to the next you will see a fairly consistent change in silhouette, palette, or theme across the wide array of featured clothing. From the most tried and true traditional designers, to the more bold and experimental, in 2019’s Fall Ready to Wear Fashion Week we saw the clothes trending towards stronger lines and more masculine silhouettes. Compared to last year, this year’s garments featured stronger shoulders, straighter lines, and was oriented around clean tailoring. We saw Karl Lagerfelds’ last Chanel show setting an example for this with oversized coats layered over wide-legged jumpsuits. Sarah Burton in her show for Alexander McQueen cinched in a lot of the looks at the waist using bondage inspired harnesses which created an almost military or utilitarian aesthetic. When a look would feature a more traditionally feminine piece, such as a dress or skirt, this was subverted through a more androgynous styling in hair and makeup, large Doc Martin boots, and often an oversized proportion, such as a sleeve. A wide variety of shows, Balenciaga and Prada to name a few, employed similar tactics which contributed to the non-gender conforming and edgier feel of this year’s Paris Fashion Week. Neutral colors dominated the runway, with bright red as the main exception that many designers featured heavily. Balenciaga even went as far as to have their models wear red contact lenses.
strangers, and ourselves wearing in the upcoming months. As far as the streetwear translation of these shows, there will be more women wearing tailored separates such as jackets and trousers. Strong shoulders and modern lines will feature strongly in neutrals with the occasional accent of bright red.

Interview with
Hayley Paige By RebeccaMarie
H
ayley Paige has swept the nation as one of the most sought after designers for a bride’s “I do”, for a very specific reason. She has recognition for her young, fresh vision along with her hit series on TLC’s ‘Hayley Ever After’. She knows what a bride wants and can help take her vision to the next level in a modern age. As the head designer for Hayley Paige, Blush by Hayley Paige, Hayley Paige Occasions, La Petite Hayley Paige and Hayley Paige Red Carpet at bridal house, JLM Couture, she has received global recognition for her collections. Her designs have been worn by trendsetters such as Carrie Underwood, Chrissy Teigen, Olivia Wilde, Aly Raisman, Kristen Taekman, Jamie Lynn Sigler, Hilary Rhoda, and Kelsea Ballerini, among others. Another project called HOLY MATRIMOJI, the first wedding-focused emoji app of its kind, launched in February 2017 and was created and hand-illustrated by Hayley. This app gives users full access to wedding-centered emojis and GIFs that are full of personality and charm. A bride can enjoy adding character and fun to her social duties. Hayley’s latest endeavor is a licensing and brand ambassadorship agreement with jewelry brand, Hearts On Fire. This includes a collection of engagement rings and wedding bands, all designed by Hayley. NL: Please tell us about the newest collection and how the aesthetic is different from previous collections. HP: This season, the Hayley Paige collection is about the interpretation of design in a physiological way. The idea is to create a collection that taps into all the senses (touch, sight, hear, smell, taste)... with the sixth sense being something radiantly new and energizing; a “sartorial umami.” There is a generous amount of texture to digest, but also a considerable spectrum to explore a wider range in style. The Blush by Hayley Paige collection is an unconditional complement to the Hayley Paige brand and plays a flirty game of opposites: spontaneity vs. ceremonials. I’ve always believed in pursuing the harmony of something fresh with something familiar when it comes to design. NL: ‘Hayley Ever After’, your new show, is reaching brides everywhere, what is your favorite episode so far and why? HP: I loved filming the first episode, “15 Minutes of Fabulous”, and showing our viewers all the hustle, heart, and hard work it takes to put a
runway show together. There is such a grind to creating new collections twice a year, which is doubled by the hectic energy of a runway show, and the feedback of press and retailers, it’s a joy to be able to give people an inside look at that world. NL: What are your aspirations for your career in years to come with your label? HP: We just launched signed our first licensing deal and launched our first diamond collection with Hearts On Fire. I’m so excited to see how brides-to-be and existing brides respond to this marvelous collection of engagement rings and wedding bands, and how they pair them with Hayley Paige dresses. In the years to come, I’d love to make our designs more accessible to a larger audience. Whether that is a capsule collection of ready to wear pieces or making Holy Matrimoji available on Android, there is certainly more to come! NL: What do you want ’your bride’ to take home at the end of the day with wearing your design? HP: I want her to feel like the absolute best version of herself and channel a feeling I call, ‘supercaliswagalisticsexyhelladopeness’ NL: How did you get your start? HP: My grandma taught me to sew at a super young age, and I always had a love for fashion – I even made my own prom and homecoming dresses, and dresses for my dolls! (CONTINUED)
My parents are both in the healthcare industry, so I initially went to Cornell to pursue a degree in medicine, and ended up double majoring in pre-med AND Fiber Science and Apparel design. I was able to flex more creative muscles in this program and debuted my very first bridal collection senior year. Jill Stuart gave me my first chance and experience in the fashion world, but I knew wanted to be in bridal. I was a designer at Priscilla’s of Boston for a few years, but knew I wanted a larger hand in the design projects I was working on. While still at Priscilla’s, a friend from college and I decided to launch a bridal accessory rental company on the side called Something Borrowed. This experience taught me about pitching and [starting] a company, as well as building capital. From here, I adamantly reached out to Joseph Murphy, CEO of JLM Couture, knowing I wanted to focus more on the design side, as well as connecting with others and social media, and needed help with distribution, funding and manufacturing. After a few years of check-in emails, Joe finally brought me in for an interview, that led to the official launch of the Hayley Paige brand under JLM Couture in 2011. Since then, we now have five collections total. Our two bridal collections are Hayley Paige and Blush by Hayley Paige, and we offer special occasions dresses from the Hayley Paige Occasions line and some fun red carpet styles! NL: Tell us something about your brand that not a lot of people know about. HP: We also have a flower girl collection! La Petite Hayley Paige is a
collection of pint-sized dresses infused with design elements from the Hayley Paige and Blush by Hayley Paige brands. NL: Where do you see the bridal dress world heading with fashion? HP: I see it adhering to more design elements that feel personal; something that uniquely manifests the curated style of each bride. There really isn’t this massive trend toward one silhouette or one type of fabric; the vibe is “bridal unbridled and anything goes”. This makes for a very eclectic and fun landscape for designers to explore all types of manipulations! It’s clear to see why modern brides are inspired by Hayley’s wedding-day creations. Her perspective as well as her designs are fresh, enthusiastic, lighthearted and self-assured - really embodying the energy you want to feel on your special day. In Hayley’s designs, her brides see something fresh, flowing, lively and definitely romantic, with that magic touch to make their wedding day a dream come true. It’s all about how a bride sees herself on her wedding day; what Hayley Paige offers is becoming the modern-fairytale belle of the ball.

bulGari luxury hotel by meredith corning
T
he Bulgari name has been synonymous with luxury and comfort in its accessories, jewelry, watches, fragrances and leather product designs dating back to 1884 and is known as one of the oldest Italian jewelry houses. The first Bulgari hotel opened its doors in Milan in 2004 and the brand has continued to expand with its most recent resort nestled in the Middle East just off the Dubai coast. Bulgari Resort Dubai is nothing short of magnificent and exudes the same grandeur the world has come to know as its eponym‘s reputation. Bulgari Resort Dubai is situated on Jumeira’s Bay, a man-made island resembling the shape of a seahorse. Although only a two-minute drive from the mainland, the location feels secluded with its white sand beaches and Arabian Gulf seascapes. The architecture has been crafted to resemble a Mediterranean village, by the renowned architectural firm, Antonio Citterio Patricia Veil, which has created all the Bulgari Hotels to date. With the same level of precision and craftsmanship as a Bulgari piece of jewelry, the architects chose rare materials for its construction including green onyx from Iran, Mongolian black
granite, and luxe furnishings by Italian designers such as B&B Italia. The Dubai venue is quickly becoming a hot spot for elite weddings in addition to its vacation getaway amenities. Lauren (Alef) Daum, associate director for Linda Gaunt Communications, representing Bulgari’s Hotels and Resorts elaborates, “The Bvlgari Resort Dubai offers a range of beautiful venues to choose from on site, among which the 360 square meters BVLGARI Ballroom located in the Yacht Club and offering the most romantic seaside views across the floor to ceiling windows, stands out. Recalling a Mediterranean garden, the luxuriant landscaping of the Bvlgari Resort Dubai creates an earthy, lush and welcoming space, and a contrast to urban Dubai for stylish weddings. At the heart of it all is La Limonaia, the ‘lemon garden’ that provides flowers for weddings or events, and homes for the resident birds. Sculpted as a geometric Italian garden with a birch walkway, La Limonaia recalls an ancient Roman garden design, framed by the marble of the Resort. Lanterns and candles subtly light the walkways and the space can be rented out for daytime or evening events. Whatever the location, our
promise of seamless service and upscale cuisine by famous Bvlgari chefs, will ensure the big day is unforgettable.” The resort houses several signature dining options including Il Ristorante by Niko Romito, La Spiaggia, and the Yacht Club. Il Ristorante houses one-hundred seats with an experience created by Michelin-starred chef, Niko Romito. Dining in this space allows for a truly authentic Italian cuisine complete with the best extra virgin Carma oil, an award-winning olive oil only produced in Italy and bread is always at the center of the table. Guests also have the option of choosing healthy, light international dishes at the scenic La Spiaggia known for its ovalshaped Bulgari bar and cabanas which can be converted into a private dining savoir-faire. The Yacht Club provides a vintage nautical theme offering fish and seafood with a large lounge and bar and terrace overlooking the marina. Whether one is indulging at the Bulgari Spa or sourcing luxury chocolates at Il Cioccolato, there is a little something to spark anyone’s interests. The lavish concept store, La Galleria, provides an upscale shopping experience with everything from fine china to fashion

‘fixy’ your makeup By Beauty Editor Stephanie Klasse
I
had a bronzer once. It was a beautiful bronzer. It was the perfect color and totally matte. It made a great contour. I used it all the time. But then I dropped it on the studio floor. I was too scared to open it because, deep down, I already knew it was gone. And it was. Shattered into a million pieces, just like my heart. If only I had known how to fix my makeup back then, I could have saved my bronzer! As much as I love any excuse to buy something new, (there’s nothing like dipping into that freshly opened compact!) sometimes replacement isn’t an option - like those limited edition obsessions we milk down to the last drop.
This is why I was thrilled when I recently discovered FIXY and I am wondering where it has been all my life! FIXY was created by Jill Rossini, a graphic designer, and licensed esthetician. FIXY was born when Jill saw a gap in the market after breaking her favorite MAC eyeshadow. Looking for a way to repair her eyeshadow, she found - after a lot of experimentation - that none of the current methods were satisfactory for her. She then came up with the idea to develop a product that is unique and innovative. FIXY was born.
FIXY is an all-in-one makeup repair kit. The kit contains pans for eyeshadows, blush, bronzer and pressed powders, and a Don’t worry - thankfully it is possible to repair your powder prod- magnetic palette to hold your newly pressed pans. The FIXY kit ucts using just a few simple items, and here’s how: is a small box composed of multiple sections; this is the “press”. Remove the top section of the press and you will see the “grindYou will need some rubbing alcohol, cling wrap, a bottle top or ing drawer”. This drawer has a screen for grinding your broken other round item to press the repaired makeup, a knife or spoon makeup into a fine powder. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto the product. dream come true, because *right now* is when we need it! 3. Place cling wrap over the top of the product to protect it, and press down firmly but gently to re-form it to the pan. 4. With the cling wrap still protecting the product, use the flat of a butter knife or back of a spoon to flatten and smooth the surface of the product. 5. Gently remove the cling wrap from the makeup surface and replace it with a folded paper towel. 6. Grab a product with a circle cap (or something flat that mimics the outline of your compact pan) and gently press it over the paper towel. (This will further flatten the makeup and absorb some of the alcohol, compacting the powder makeup back together.) 7. Leave the product to dry overnight. In a pinch, using rubbing alcohol is a great way to repair your broken makeup, however, there is a chance that the alcohol can change the integrity of your makeup and alas, it may not be quite the same as it was before.
It is cruelty-free, paraben-free and gluten-free. Use the FIXY press to press your makeup together and within seconds, your broken palette has now been fixed and is ready to use. There are other great uses for the FIXY. As a makeup artist, I am always looking to customize my colors, and with the FIXY makeup press, this is now easy and professional looking. I can create my desired perfect color by combining as many existing colors as I like. I have already begun to customize some new colors, as well as repaired a favorite cracked luminiser. If you hate the look of hitting pan, you can make it look fresh again by simply scraping the remainder of the powder makeup into your FIXY press, spray, and re-press and you have a new pan. FIXY is currently only available via the website fixymakeup.com but shipping is fast and economic and the follow-up customer service is fantastic. WWW.FIXYMAKEUP.COM

Their award-winning multi-day productions feature exquisite decor, delectable menus, and guest experiences that tantalize all five senses. Their experts make all of this magic happen in locations across the globe that most people only dream of visiting. When fantasy venues like ancient castles, shimmering palaces, or ocean-view villas are considered “good places to start,” Cocoon Events is called in to stage real life dreamscome-true. Luxury-level service is Cocoon Events’ specialty. No client request is too big or too small, and the only limit is the imagination. The firm works tirelessly to provide clients with a completely custom event planning experience, tailor-made to suit their unique passions and priorities. Fabrice elaborates about the process involved in creating events at this level. “Initially, we start with site inspections, searching around the globe for a unique venue which will reflect both the clients’ personalities and spirit. At Cocoon Events, we go the extra mile by providing a vast range of amenities such as airport arrival

Gourmet cuisine and world-class amenities make Morocco a phenomenal destination for wedding events.” NL: How long in advance do couples need to plan? CE: “Many couples think of the bustling markets of Marrakech when they envision holding a wedding in Morocco, and the city is truly amazing. But Morocco offers so much more. You really need an expert to guide you through your venue and vendor search. We would love to introduce you to amazing Morocco!”
Emirates Palace Hotel: Desert Luxury with all the Amenities By Ruth Shilling
T
here’s no lack of luxury in the United
Arab Emirates, and it may be no surprise that the stunning Emirates Palace Hotel on the coast of Abu Dhabi is no exception. The hotel opened in 2005 and has since hosted the world’S VIPs, including royal families, heads of state and celebrities. This hotel quickly became an iconic landmark with its high-end bespoke services; providing for every aspect of a guest’s needs, for weddings, honeymoons, business meetings, vacations, private getaways, and more. Even with it close proximity to the bustling Abu Dhabi, there’s no need to leave the resort, because they provide for all a guest might need. The architecture rivals the buildings that surround the resort; the stately structure of the grounds and the main hotel speaks of aspects traditional to the Arabic culture. It’s a romantic sight, with majestic walls and pillars of rich imported marble, 114 intricately decorated domes, gorgeous chandeliers, extravagantly beautiful fountains, and the gauzy white fabric of traditional Bedouin tents billowing in the desert breeze; no detail in the hotel’s construction was overlooked. The palatial hotel sits on more than 240 acres (100 hectares) including a refreshing view of
