E

very six months media, celebrities, elite buyers, store owners, and influencers flock to Haute Couture Week - an event that leaves us on the edge of our seats wanting to see more. Haute Couture designers are rare gems in the industry who devote themselves to exquisite artistry without flaw. Their designs - with immaculate attention to detail and structure - are worn by royalty, red carpet celebrities, and people who love to feel and look great in a design that leaves a memorable impression in fashion. In the Couture of Spring/Summer 2019, we saw many types of embellishments such as the fringe look, feathers, bold shoulder details, bright bold colors and sparkling Swarovski adornments.

Swarovski shimmered like a sea of glittery diamonds, as runway models wearing a Ziad Nakad sauntered past. Ziad’s collection was a fantasy, rich with elegance. There is a star-like magic that transforms the collection into one with extravagant pieces that brighten the starless nights, in silver and gold, and fabrics of champagne and pastel designed with extravagant cuts into a timeless look.

Chanel designed for refinement, with boat necklines and zip-up skirts that fall to mid-calf. On wrap-around skirts cut to the knee, the braid quite literally melts into the fabric - embroidered into the tweed, the lamé wool, or the grain de poudre - it further amplifies the pure line of what Karl Lagerfeld is calling “the new CHANEL”. The exciting finale bride broke all the rules of a traditional gown - in a fresh, sparkling twist, she stepped out in a dazzling jewel- and sequinencrusted bathing suit and cap with yards of silver sequined white veil trailing behind.

Dior gave us a show inspired by the circus, including performers, with the models wearing beautiful bold colors in stripes, sequins, and ruffles. The majestic luxury circus runway experience had me feeling like cotton candy and applause was certainly in order.

Guo Pei inspired us, creating a bridge between heaven and earth at the Palais de Tokyo, bringing a touch of ancient art - with silks, mother of pearl, sky blue free-flowing fabrics, and pure gold to reflect the vitality of nature.

Hobeika never fails at creating a line that is red carpet worthy with feathers, texture, and the added sparkle that is highly sought after to wear. The runway was full of strapless pieces and capped sleeves with elegant ruffles.

Tony Ward was striking to the imagination with many gowns inspired by the dragonfly itself. The collection, ‘Anatomy of a Wing’ made a statement with materials interrupted by transparency and lightweight volumes. The collection exhibited deep rich purples, embellished high shoulder accents, and geometric shapes with embroidered details. Mrs. France attended, showing her enthusiasm to the graceful collection.

Georges Chakra celebrates the woman’s form with full skirts, sheer silk chiffon and silhouette-shaping cuts with a touch of playful, seductive glamour. The romantic era meets a more modern woman, with dresses in floral-printed organza and hand-painted gazar reminiscent of an English garden. The bridal gown was designed with a full ballroom skirt and details of circular cutouts in abundance, creating a modern romance for brides wearing his design.

Celia loves to play with color and sheer floral lace, but this show also brought rich modern textures and feathers. When their models walked the runway - the fabrics effortlessly, elegantly flowed.

YolanCris duo is no stranger to lace and embroidery - being very rich in design they showcased at the Hotel Le Marois for the very first time at Haute Couture Week, bringing strong designs inspired by different organic motifs, pictorial movements and historical periods.

Yanina Couture from Moscow showed a collection with a mix of detail, from shoulder ruffles to feather accents and sheer sleeves.

Sparkled high necklines graced one design, and we love the plunge added to the bodices, created in a classy yet edgy look.

Yumi Katsura’s “The Elegance Tie” presented 28 dresses, which expressed her own sense of Japonisme (Japan-French). Special attention was paid to exploring the Obi - introducing fresh, yet elegant ways to interpret and embellish kimonos adorned in Yuzen hand paint and Nishijin textile rhythm. Her collection transcribes the traditional Japanese culture into the modern world.

Xuan’s Happy Collection is designed to share all of the colors coming together - with flows of fabric, the designs were showcased as if you were walking in the clouds with rainbow colors surrounding you.

Stéphane Rolland models were draped in elegant and heavenly white, black leather and long, billowing sequined sleeves. Taking in the collection, you see sleeves accented with large ruffles, which add elegance and sophistication to his classic collection with an expressive new representation on the female figure.

Ralph and Russo, of course, is a big show that was inspired by Latin American femininity and legacy of La Dona. Sixties-era pop colors, layered tassels, and decadent pom-pom fringed skirts were flirtatious and playful. Cut-out hearts and beaded bananas adorn ballgowns in tribute to cinema’s finest Latinas, Carmen Miranda, and Josephine Baker.

Zuhair gowns were all about high slits, sheer trains, and glimmering sequins. We saw sophisticated v-neck and one-shoulder dresses adorned with an elegant waist belt. Shorts with pockets and a

beautiful add-on train looked comfortably chic for a red carpet look.

Viktor&Rolf is art, actualizing an inventive way to express their designs with honest truths displayed on the gowns; a fierce and bold way to modernize the runway.

“Eternity Ephemere” by Rami Kadi was led by Coco Rocha on the catwalk. This collection includes laser-cut glass with shiny crystal grains to add a dazzling and glittery quality.

August Getty Atelier is an incredible artist with details and creativity but his construction is the most incredible and noticeable genius to his art. One gown dazzles in full beads with a circular type embellishment to the dress. He will be one to watch as his romanticism of old Hollywood glamour is seen on the red carpet.

GYUNEL used many jewel tones in her designs and was inspired by

the planet and nature surrounding us. Her bespoke couture is reputed for its exquisite craftmanship and unique design.

With all of the new collections that were seen, designers’ new styles can be worn by the stylish individual looking for the kind of attire that will give them the edge to stand out. ilm and American television came together to be recognized - all while being dressed to the nines for the 76th Annual Golden Globes. Awards and the glamorous fashion of the red carpet - could it get any better?

Bohemian Rhapsody took home the title of ‘Best Motion Picture’ (Drama) - with lead actor, Rami Malek, taking home his first ever Golden Globe for ‘Best Performance’ (Drama). Malek, who was wearing an onyx Givenchy tuxedo, was surprised to beat fellow ‘Best Performance’ nominee, Bradley Cooper - nominated for his role in A Star is Born.

Even though Cooper did not win within his category - his A Star is Born costar, Lady Gaga, triumphed, winning ‘Best Original Song’, with the song Shallow.

Fan or no fan, one couldn’t help but be instantly mesmerized by Gaga’s choice of evening wear. Her custom periwinkle Valentino Couture took center stage with its puff sleeves, and accenting Tiffany diamond necklace worth $5 million.

Many fans expected Lady Gaga to win ‘Best Leading Actress’, but she was outdone by veteran actress Glenn Close, for her winning performance in The Wife. Close gave a moving acceptance speech, reminiscing on her mother and reminding women to pursue their dreams with bravery.

Green Book won ‘Best Screen Play’ and ‘Best Motion Picture’ (Musical or Comedy), and starred winner of ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role’, Mahershala Ali. Ali wore a sleek custom Etro tux with a black and navy paisley scarf with tasseled ends.

Fans of Regina King were thrilled to see her honored with the award for ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role’, for her touching performance in If Beale Street Could Talk. King accepted her award wearing a feminine rose sequined Alberta Ferretti sheath gown.

Catherine Zeta-Jones graced the red carpet in an emerald green, pleated Elie Saab evening gown next to her husband, Michael Douglas, who took the award for ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series’, (Musical or Comedy) for his role in The Kominsky Method. The show also won the Golden Globe for ‘Best Television Series’ (Musical or Comedy).

Gemma Chan arrived in a dazzling blue Valentino Haute Couture open skirt gown joined by her costar from Crazy Rich Asians, Constance Wu. Wu, who wore a nude Vera Wang bustier top gown with a burnt orange velvet ribbon tied around the waist was one of the best dressed of the night. Crazy Rich Asians was nominated for ‘Best Motion Picture’ (Musical or Comedy).

Also among the best dressed, Dakota Fanning wore a custom silver satin Armani Prive with bows in the back. Bows seemed to be a theme of the night. Danai Gurira looked bold and confident in her Rodarte gown; it had a fiery orange bow that trailed down her shoulder with an accenting burst of red floral-like design. Anne Hathaway rocked a unique look with animal-print on an open-slit full-skirted gown with a flattering open neckline, by Elie Saab. Emmy Rossom walked the red carpet in a pretty-in-pink, tulle ball gown, made by Monique Lhiller. Then there is Julia Roberts, who opted out of wearing a gown, and wore a nude tulle one shoulder top with a tulle train, by Stella McCartney. The ensemble had slick black trouser pants and instantly caught one’s eye - in the best way possible.

To complete the event with two of the highest-honored awards of the evening: Jeff Bridges received the ‘Cecil B. DeMille Award’, and Carol Burnett - best known for The Carol Burnett Show - was named the very first recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press

New Year’s Resolutions

Thank you for inviting me to

contribute to Novelty Bride in this fun way. I’m blessed to have experienced a lovely holiday... first, with my team at Romona Keveza, then at home with family and friends. I’m grateful this weekend to be nestled inside with my little pomeranian-yorkie-mix Samantha, in front of a warm fireplace. And before I state anything else (even New Year’s resolutions) I must say that 2019 is going to be A GREAT YEAR! With that said, preparing for another

set of fashion seasons ahead is exciting, but it takes careful planning and a positive approach! Easier said than done!! We all wish our minds could be as clear as the blue sky on a crisp January day, but it really is difficult in this age of digital distractions. A clear mind, positive energy, and good start means everything! So here is my New Year’s Resolution: * Each day upon waking up, take a notebook and write down 3 things that you’re grateful for in general, and at least 1 thing that you like about yourself.

The truth is... when we can appreciate the little things about ourselves, then we can put it all together and eventually appreciate who we are completely. Because when we love ourselves, then we can love others! And when we love who we are, we can invite others to love us. It has other benefits… when we are grateful and recognize our blessings, we notice those blessings in others too. Sharing in a relationship is human nature, and makes life fun and interesting, it makes work more meaningful, and the future look bright!

Of course I’m still going to try to get on the treadmill more often as well… but that’s another story!

Timeless Design for the Modern Bride Justin Alexander Luxury Group

t’s the day she’s been waiting for her whole life, and with Justin Alexander it’s a day she’ll always remember. For over 70 years, Justin Alexander has been creating high-quality bridal gowns and accessories, from classic to couture, for brides around the world. Current bridal collections include: Justin Alexander Signature, Lillian West, Sincerity, and Sweetheart - with styles ranging from the traditional to the avant-garde.

With North American and European headquarters and regional offices in New York City, London, and Hong Kong, as well as more than 1,500 authorized retailers worldwide carrying one or more of the Justin Alexander collections, the label is a powerhouse in the bridal industry. Novelty Bride spoke with Justin Warshaw, President & Co-Creative Director at Justin Alexander, to get a feel for their creative process and to find out what the modern bride can expect when they choose Justin Alexander for their wedding look.

NB: When designing, what are the things that inspire you the most?

JW: My inspiration comes from three things. First and foremost, my travel.

I love traveling, and as the designer of a global brand I spend a lot of time in Europe, UK, and Asia. I try to take time to explore new cultures, try new food, and, of course, pop into our stores and spend time with our brides.

Second, living in New York. I bike or walk to our office in Union Square, and I love to take in the city. Whether I check out a new bar or catch a Knicks or Nets game, I’m inspired in New York.

Third, our brides. There is nothing more important to me when designing than thinking about what our brides would love. I attend a few trunk shows a year and am constantly connecting feedback from them.

NB: Are there any objects or routines that you MUST have to keep the creative juices flowing?

JW: I’m always creating new mood boards. Other than that, I just try to give myself some time out of the office to design.

NB: How does your creative process look? How does it smell?

Sound? Feel?

JW: I start each season with a few mood boards of new design ideas and concepts. I have a meeting with the design team in which we brainstorm, discuss, and share feedback from retailers and brides that we received throughout the season. It feels collaborative but with a personal spin. The music that plays varies heavily from alternative to hip hop!

NB: What do you do when you’re blocked? How do you find inspiration and motivation when you’re feeling less than creative?

JW: It’s easy to get distracted from design with all of the other responsibilities of running the business, so giving myself some time out of the office.

If I’m feeling blocked, I might take a weekend out of the city at my house in Garrison, NY, or I’ll jump on a plane to LA for some sunshine and fresh air.

NB: In designing bridal gowns and accessories, what do you envision as your mark on the world? What do you hope every bride will find in your designs?

JW: I want every bride to feel her best on her wedding day. I like to experiment with new design techniques, fabrics, and embellishments, but at the end of the day it’s most important that JA brides feel beautiful and confident.

NB: What would you consider the best advice for the modern bride?

JW: Be willing to try new things and trust your sales consultant!

Definitely come with inspiration but allow your sales consultant to pull a few [wild card] styles into the dressing room. The consultants work with brides every day, and they know what’s going to look great on the body.

NB: How does your brand currently reflect its founding values?

In what important ways have you changed over time?

JW: As a company, we’ve always stood for quality products and excellent service. Over the years we’ve introduced new brands (10 in total now), including Lillian West to appeal to the romantic, ethereal bride, and we’ve solidified our brand positioning, most recently with new branding for the Justin Alexander Signature

collection. But our quality and the convenience provided to our customers remains.

NB: What can a bride expect when she wears Justin Alexander?

JW: Most importantly, she’s going to feel comfortable. Our gowns have impeccable construction and structure that holds the gown in place. Even our lightweight gowns have boning and construction in the bodice to ensure good fit.

NB: How does a Millennial (32 year-old), 6’ 5” guy know what brides from all over the world want to wear?

JW: I spend a lot of time understanding what is selling and interpreting that into new designs. Design is not just about coming up with the next big trend; it’s also really understanding consumer needs, and I focus on the data that backs those up.

NB: How do you balance 10 labels and keep 1500 authorized retailers worldwide happy?

JW: A great team! Everyone from design and marketing to sales and customer service works together to build successful partnerships with our retailers.

NB: The new Justin Alexander Luxury Group includes Viktor&Rolf Mariage and Savannah Miller.

JW: We started working with Viktor&Rolf in 2016 with the launch of Mariage – the designers’ artistic interpretation of bridalwear adhering to their three key brand pillars: Unexpected Elegance, Conceptual Glamour, and Provocative Couture. This past season we introduced a new partnership with Savannah Miller to produce, market, and distribute her seductive, sophisticated collection.

BRIDAL TRENDS FOR

by RUTH SHILLING The Dress Nontraditional elements were on trend this year at the New York Bridal Market, providing plenty of options for a bride’s unique personal style to shine through on her wedding day. The ultramodern creations included mini dresses, shifts, and jumpsuits alongside the more traditional silhouettes. The change-up was that many of the designers’ collections contained looks created with unexpected fabrics or added touches that created a unique look.

Collections also included a range of styles and features: sleeves, full-length capes as well as capelets, jumpsuits and overskirts.

Looks hearkened back to previous era’s fashions, however there were always modern twists that would leave guests impressed.

In one of the more contemporary shows, Israeli designer Inbal Dror brought impeccable details and sheer fabrics in her sea-inspired collection. This collection displayed the gamut of feminine necklines seen on traditional dresses, while playing with the flow and length of the skirts, sleeves, and the sheerness of the fabrics.

Her craftsmanship of the embroidered lace and transparent fabrics was exquisite as always.

Ines di Santo didn’t disappoint with her latest collection. The drama was in full effect with voluminous skirts and glamour.

She incorporated color into a few of this collection’s dresses, using hand-painted 3D

lace and tulle appliqués, with delicate lace and feminine details.

Naeem Khan, always designing for the strong woman, consistently provides unexpected elements in his bridal collection. He excited the audience using traditional fabrics for statement pieces with a nontraditional vibe, like his silk faille sweetheart jumpsuit with an overskirt that is to die for. It screams bridal elegance, and yet it is nonconformist at its core. The New York designer’s shift dress was one of the more unconventional dresses on the runway, created from a 3D floral fabric for a fun and unexpected silhouette.

Monique Lhuillier’s collection evoked a fairytale love. Dramatic lines, cathedral trains and feminine shapes bring sophisticated elegance that is indicative of her aesthetic. While her collection maintained a fairly traditional angle, the fabrics and overlays give the looks a more modern feel. Capes, jackets, and streamers showed up in many of her runway collections - bringing other options for the woman who wants something more than the dress and accessories. The Westwood stands out with dramatic embroidery in bold colors on the structured bodice, flowing down the top of a full tulle skirt that goes on forever.

accessories are taking the traditional and giving them a nontraditional twist. In 2019, pearls and oversized statement pieces are on trend. These accessories however aren’t costume jewelry from past generations.

These are luxury pieces that help each bride make her own mark on her wedding day and complete the look she’s dreamed of for so long.

Headpieces Inbal Dror’s show featured the amazing headpieces of Keren Wolf. As with the designer collections, trends with accessories are overstated and nontraditional. The models wore a lovely variety of Venus Pearl Crowns, some with strings of pearls created with small-sized pearls, and some designed with medium- and large-sized pearls paired together. The Venus Flower Crown, a beautiful headpiece with metallic tones and pearls, was also featured in the runway show. The showstopper of headpieces in Keren Wolf ’s collection is the uniquely romantic Venus Crown that is truly fit for a queen.

Maria Elena is another amazing creator of elegant bridal headpieces to perfectly compliment a look. The designs are luxurious and gem-encrusted and include crowns, hair combs, headbands and other accessories to make a woman feel she is royalty on her wedding day.

RANJANA KHAN Jewelry Celebrity jeweler Jared Lehr is known for his statement pieces often worn on paparazzi filled red carpet events. These would be the perfect completer accessory for a bride’s day. His gem encrusted bands and halos surround perfectly oversized stones.

Danielle Frankel’s Objet collection includes accessories that are the epitome of unique simplicity, using Baroque freshwater pearls, large and small, along with metal components in geometric shapes. Objet is uniquely created, as each pearl has its own shape - in addition, there are only 100 of each design produced to make this a bride’s most unique accessory for her wedding day.

For the woman who likes a more detailed and unconventional look, Ranjana Khan has the perfect jewelry. The drop earrings in her bridal collection are enviable statement pieces. Her Chloe earrings have Swarovski crystals and mother of pearl elements. Celeste is another beauty with tulle-covered pearls and crystals from her collection.

Gowns, capes and pearls with a nontraditional twist, are 2019’s trend for the bride’s look - allowing more freedom to customize her look and make her day more memorable.

MAKING THE CUT

E very couple on the cusp of marriage enjoys the thrill of its precursor: the engagement. “How did he propose?” and “Let’s see your ring!” are probably the most frequently asked questions of any new bride-to-be. The moment, the emotions, the happiness of the “yes” are sure to be fondest memories. And of course, the ring - the symbol of love and commitment that starts it all!

In yesteryears most brides were not involved in the process of choosing an engagement ring. But times have changed, and so have the options! Today, many couples choose this important gesture of fidelity together. Such was the case for Lindsey and Brendan Raine of Las Vegas, Nevada.

“My husband and I have an extremely unconventional relationship!” says Lindsey. The couple met online and Brendan soon revealed that he was at that moment deployed and wouldn’t be home for five more months. “I decided that if he’s serving our country, the least I could do for him was be a pen pal so that he had someone to talk to.” Brendan and Lindsey quickly discovered that they were a wonderful match and it didn’t take long before they began discussing marriage.

When it came to choosing an engagement ring, both partners were equally vested in the process. “He told me to go shopping and send him photos of ones I liked,” says Lindsey. But it wasn’t quite so simple… “After sending fifteen or so photos, we realized we didn’t both like the same styles. That’s when we decided to design one ourselves.”

With so many more options available to us these days, more couples have the ability to customize their engagement and wedding rings. Don’t be afraid to go against current trends, or even just to put a personal twist on a trendy style. For example, many brides are choosing non-traditional colored gem stones instead of diamonds.

But for the traditional diamond lover, a good place to start is getting some education about what jewelers call the “Four Cs” of diamond shopping: cut, color, clarity, and carat.

First, decide what shape of diamond works for you. A quick internet search can provide photos of several different shapes - from the well-known round stone and princess cut (square),

to the more unique pear, asscher (octagon), or trillion shape (triangle).

Then discuss with your jeweler the cut of the stone. The cut of the diamond determines how much it sparkles! Stones with many facets cut at the right angles will catch and reflect light so that the diamond shines brilliantly. Your jeweler can explain the difference between shallow and deep cuts and how it affects the appearance of the stone.

The color of the stone is another determining factor of its value - the less color in the stone the higher the value. Stones are graded on an alphabetic scale and can range anywhere from colorless to yellow.

Clarity is a measurement of the diamond’s flaws or impurities.

Fewer flaws (called “inclusions”) increase the value of the diamond.

Carat refers to the weight of the stone. Diamonds are measured by weight instead of size.

Once a center stone, or focal point, has been decided, other embellishments and details can be chosen, such as accompanying stones to surround the center stone and the color/material of the band.

Incorporating heirlooms is a wonderful way to personalize the wedding ring. Lindsey was able to use stones from her mother’s own wedding ring.

“My parents had held [onto] the engagement ring that my father had given my mother when they were first engaged. After upgrading hers, they held [onto] the first in hopes of gifting it

to me one day. I knew I wanted to use the stones!” Meshing old with the new (just need borrowed and blue!) is wonderfully refreshing and sentimental. “My mother’s ring had a beautiful round center stone, in a solitaire type band with three tiny diamonds on the band on each side. We were able to find a way to incorporate my mom’s round stone into a brand new, yet vintage looking square setting.”

Of course, not every couple has the financial resources to custom design the ring of their dreams. It’s important to be practical and wise, as finances can certainly be a major stress in relationships. Lindsey’s advice to couples: “Choose what you love! You’ll wear it forever. At the same time though, be mindful of your budget. I was very lucky to have the main stone for my custom ring already. While my ring has a high value, the price tag did not match! We were able to use our resources to create something new and beautiful together, but it also has a history and a great story!”

edding bells were ringing for the beautiful singer, Daniella Pick and film director Quentin Tarantino.

The Israeli singer and model chose to wear two custom designs by Dana Harel for her wedding. The intimate reform Jewish ceremony was at the couple’s home in Los Angeles. Pick met Tarantino in Israel while he was promoting his 2009 film Inglorious Basterds, and they began dating in 2016.

Guests included Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Kruger, and Uma Thurman. accessories by designer Keren wolf added an elegant touch - and for the reception, the bride changed into an open back, bias-cut silk slip dress with Swarovski details on the straps.

(Photo by KT Merry) 1. What personal touches do you advise your clients to implement that will set their wedding apart?

Being a designer in love with everything that’s beautiful and unique, I always tell my clients to have a special eye for all the details (props, ribbons, styling items, invitation suite, table setting, etc.) that can surely make their event bespoke and unique. I design only high-end events and of course each one of them has to be perfect and memorable, for them first of all and for their guests who have to live a special experience.

2. How do you create an experience for your client’s guests that will be both memorable and unique?

I am a perfectionist and the design of each event has to be perfect and has to distinguish from all the others.

The concept of the mood is strictly connected not only with the couple’s personality and desires but mostly with the type of venue they choose.

Inspecting the venue is a great source of inspiration for me, the architecture, the textures, the materials already on site and the prevailing colours of the structure and of the environment. Consequently I create a moodboard with more options for my clients to choose from. The colour palette, the materials, the textures, the little details for each moment of the event (ceremony, cocktail, dinner, after dinner, etc.) have to absolutely cohesive and perfectly matching with each other.

Only in this way the result will be perfect, unique and unforgettable for each couple.

3. What process do you use to learn about your clients’ likes and dislikes so that you can then prioritize what matters to them most?

I am used to have a preliminary Skype call with my couples, or even a personal meeting when they choose to come and visit the venues personally. Their relationship, the way they relate with each other, their vision of the couple, their vision of a life together, their past experiences made together. Even the way they look at each other tells me a lot about them

and gives me inspiration to design their event. Of course listening to their desire, their vision of their big day is extremely important and building it together is always very important to them, to feel it is their event and no one else’s.

4. Tell us what upcoming trends you see on the horizon for 2019 luxury weddings.

I am not a planner and a designer following the trends so much.

For example, the Pantone colours, this year was Ultra Violet, last year Green. The choice of the design must be perfectly in line with the venue and so the style. For sure I can say that trends like shabby chic are now obsolete. I tend to tell my couple not to follow trends too much, but to aim to creating an unforgettable event that exactly reflect their desires and their dreams, enjoying it together with their loved ones.

5. Our next issue is The Vintage Collection and we will be discussing all things luxury vintage fashion. Do you have any favorite vintage fashion designers and why?

I have many designers whose style I love. Personally, I don’t look at the fact that a dress may be vintage, or classical, or organic. I love everything that is beautiful and I believe that all designers that enchant the female figure, creating something special for brides to wear on the most important day of their life can be mentioned.

I personally adore dresses which are unique in their kind and lately, also when I have to choose dresses for my editorial, I privilege all that it has got a bit of texture, precious fabrics, beautiful shapes, dresses that look more evening than bridal one. My favourite designers are Dana Harel Designs, Eisen – Stein, Naeem Kaan, Costarellos, Cortana, Rime Arodaky, Lee Petra Grebenau, Lihi Hod, and thinking well, I can find many more!! I am in love for beautiful, refined and unique dresses that can enhance each bride in a different way.

Our story is a special one going back many years to the exquisite scenery of the Loire Valley in France. Today it is told through the magnificent architecture of our Grade ll-listed Château in North Wales, nestled away on the picturesque Isle of Anglesey on the Menai Strait with breathtaking views overlooking Snowdonia.

The earliest recorded chateau on our site dates all the way back to the medieval age in 1050, in a time of knights and chivalry. The original castle was probably part of the ‘Les Marches de Bretagne’ a series of fortresses that acted as a defensive line that protected the people of the ancient region of France known as Brittany. That chateau, and many others that followed it were destroyed in the wars, and conflicts that wracked the area in the centuries that followed.

In 2002, the Nicholson family purchased Chateau Challain and began the painstaking process of restoring the castle to its original splendour. Together with an international team of craftsman, the Nicholsons continue to restore, preserve, and protect this valuable piece of French history.

Hammond Castle

1. What are some amazing things that your Concierge can arrange?

4. What is the history behind Shangri-La? On 17 December 2010, Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts opened Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, representing its first property in Europe, a flagship of intimate scale and local historical significance.

Shangri-La Hotel, Paris is the former residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte, grand-nephew of Emperor Napoleon I, originally designed to house Roland Bonaparte’s collection of dried plants.

The architectural treasure, which dates back to 1896 and now [a] registered historic monument, was unveiled on 17 December 2010 after extensive renovations under the guidance of architect Richard Martinet and interior designer PierreYves Rochon that maintained the integrity and spirit of the building’s original design.

5. Do you have a favorite meal in your restaurant?

We have 3 restaurants at Shangri-La Hotel, Paris: La Bauhinia all day contemporary restaurant L’Abeille : Gourmet French restaurant Shang Palace: authentic Cantonese restaurant (continued)

I have various favorite dishes from all our restaurants, such as the Poached Langoustines from Summer Isle, ginger/lime fragrant broth from L’Abeille, or the grilled Sea Bass served with a lemon butter sauce from La Bauhinia.

I also very much appreciate the selection of Dim Sum from Shang Palace, our authentic Cantonese restaurant.

6. Tell us about Shangri-La weddings and what clients can expect.

W., and Former First Lady Laura Bush - married screenwriter and actor, Craig Coyne, in a coastal ceremony in Maine. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a custom Vera Wang gown for the intimate and small nuptials. The Vera Wang gown had a beautiful cowl draped neckline with spaghetti straps in ivory silk.

Barbara wore a sentimental “something borrowed” - a

bracelet which her grandfather once gifted to his late wife.

The ceremony was focused on family. Barbara’s aunt, Dorothy Bush Koch, was the officiant for the ceremony, and the bride’s grandfather lovingly watched the ceremony from the front row. The bride’s twin sister, Jenna attended with her husband Henry Hager, and the bride’s nieces served as flower girls and ring bearer.
