This is it, we’ve made it through 2020! I know we’re all looking forward to a new year and that also means new trends, so for this shoot we’re highlighting one of our favorite color palettes for the new year. We’re featuring shades of rust, dusty blue and mustard in this shoot at The Rooftop on Basin, which overlooks the beautiful French Quarter. Floral and other natural elements are going to be big in 2021 and you’ll notice that even goes for amazing scalloped edge trains that follow the pattern of the floral lace of the gown. 2021 is all about color so don’t be afraid to pair some bolder tones like rust or mustard with a more mellow dusty blue or pale peach and make sure to see pages 6 and 7 for more of the amazing color palettes we’re loving for 2021! - Rena Sweeney, Alchemy Events CREDITS PHOTOGRAPHY: Amin Russell Photography, aminrussell.com VENUE: The Rooftop on Basin, therooftoponbasin.com CREATIVE DIRECTION: Alchemy Events, alchemyeventsnola.com VIDEO: Jessica The Photographer, jessicathephotographer.com FLORALS: Berry Blossom Flowers, berryblossomflowers.com HAIR + MAKEUP: Tracy Branch, Tracy Branch Agency, tracybranch.com NAILS: Passport Polish, passportpolish.com DECOR RENTALS: Party Rentals Delivered, partyrentalsdelivered.com INVITATIONS: Amber LeBlanc Studio, amberleblancstudio.com FASHION: MaeMe The Bridal Boutique, maemebridal.com Pearl’s Place, pearlsplace.com CAKE: Kimbla’s Cakes, kimblascakes.com MODELS: Evie Burguieres and Julie Huesman

ABOUT THE ROOFTOP ON BASIN: The Rooftop on Basin sits atop the historic Basin St. Station. Built in 1904 as the Southern Railway Freight Office, Basin St. Station was also originally used by the New Orleans Terminal Company. The railroad vacated the building in 1975 and it sat empty for many years. The building was purchased and began renovation and restoration in 2004. The front of the building has retained the stations’ 1904 classic architecture. The venue boasts a magnificent view of the New Orleans skyline.

Kristie Toledano & Brad Connelly OCTOBER 3, 2020
“A DREAMY, ROMANTIC AFFAIR” WRITTEN BY: Jessica Burke | PHOTOGRAPHER: Hannah Herpin Creative
KRISTIE AND BRAD MET AS MANY MODERN COUPLES DO, ON AN online dating app. Their first date at The Columns turned out to be Brad’s first and last Bumble date. “We joke that he was the lucky one not having to go through the ups and downs of online dating,” shares Kristie. Brad proposed the night of their annual Christmas party. “Before our friends arrived he had proposed and it was perfect to share the news and celebrate with everyone that night,” says Kristie. COVID restrictions didn’t put a damper on Kristie and Brad’s wedding plans. “I’ve always envisioned having an intimate wedding,” says Kristie, “and because COVID restrictions only allowed 50 guests we welcomed the idea of such a small gathering. Being surrounded by our closest family and friends on our big day was all we wanted.” The couple chose The Pontchartrain Hotel on historic St. Charles Avenue for their intimate wedding ceremony and reception. “It was a beautiful blank slate,” says Kristie, adding “Our florist really understood my vision and transformed the ceremony and reception space into a dreamy romantic affair with florals that really took center stage.”
26 | N.O.W | NOWWeddingMagazine.com
When it comes to favorite moments, Kristie can’t choose just one. “One of my favorite pictures that really set the tone for the day,” she says, “is of my bridesmaids and myself with a confetti popper.” Another favorite moment was her walk down the aisle with her grandfather and seeing Brad and her guests reactions. “I think that was one of the perks of having a small ceremony because I really felt such a connection and was able to really see everyone’s happy faces as we were walking down the aisle,” she shares. Before the reception, Brad and Kristie took time together to see the reception transformation before guests arrived. “I really wanted to be present and take every moment in because everyone says the time goes by so fast, and it’s so true,” shares Kristie. Brad and Kristie hired painter Denise Hopkins to capture the reception on canvas. “The painting is something that we will cherish forever. I love that she was able to capture all the important people in our lives,” says Kristie. At the end of the evening, guests showered the happy couple with confetti as they left the reception, another of Kristie’s favorite moments.

Trend Report
CURATED BY NOW CREATIVE DIRECTOR + ALCHEMY EVENTS OWNER, RENA SWEENEY EDITED BY NOW PUBLISHER, JESSICA BURKE
WONDERING WHAT’S NEW IN BRIDAL FASHION? Well, you’re in the right place! We’ve curated our favorite trends for 2021 and we couldn’t be more excited to share this collection of gowns with you. Whether you consider yourself fashion-forward or more traditional, there’s something for everyone in 2021 bridal fashion. One trend we’re falling in love with is detachable customizations. Maggie Sottero is fully embracing this by offering many of their gowns with numerous sleeve and even skirt fabric options which can be unsnapped and a new style attached quickly and easily to change up your look throughout the wedding day. For religious couples, this has the added benefit if you need to be more covered up for the ceremony, but want a different look for your cocktail hour or reception. The other major shift we are seeing in 2021 fashion is fuller sleeves. While fitted long sleeves are still very popular, 28 | N.O.W | NOWWeddingMagazine.com
and have been since Kate Middleton started the trend in 2011, sleeves with more volume are in and adding a romantic flare that we adore! One shoulder gowns are also gaining popularity, a style that also fits well with the sleek 90’s Calvin Klein feel that is also re-emerging. If sleek isn’t what you’re going for, we continue to see decadent, scalloped-edge trains and tiered skirts with ruffles, ruffles and more ruffles. Finally, there are some daring details that we’re seeing and can’t get enough of! While they didn’t fit into a specific category, we love them too much not to share! 2021 is really the year (as we say at NOW and Alchemy Events), of embracing who you are! Diversity in styles and color palettes is really what it’s all about. Your wedding is a culmination of your story up until this point and there’s no better time to let it be a true reflection of you personally and your journey together as a couple.

“A FLORAL FANTASY” WRITTEN BY: Jessica Burke | PHOTOGRAPHER: Carl Lynch, Image 1 Photography
DON AND MAIA DATED FOR 7 YEARS BEFORE DON PROPOSED TO Maia at her parents’ home on Christmas Day, 2017. “Within that last year we started talking about marriage a lot more and looking at rings,” she shares, “so I knew eventually it would happen but not when.” While Maia was wrapped up in conversation with her family, Don walked up behind her and got down on one knee. “When I turned around, that’s where he was!! I hollered and laughed! And of course, I SAID YES!!!” Maia started planning right away, but didn’t rush the process. “I gave myself a year and 7 months to plan,” she shares. “This wedding was both our first wedding and I knew I would never do it again, so I wanted to make it count and get the things I wanted.” “Must haves” included her Stephen Yearick gown, the elaborate florals and reception decor, the towering wedding cake and luxury invitations. Maia and Don said their vows in a Catholic ceremony at St. James Catholic

Church. Afterwards they hosted a lavishly-decorated reception for 450 guests. Florals cascaded from the guest and cake tables and candlelight set a romantic tone for the evening. “I was in total awe and overwhelmed in how gorgeous my venue looked,” says Maia. “My decor team, Memorable Events, my wedding planner, Tenishia Keller of Chocolate Bunnie The Event Planner, and my best friend Ursula Stewart took my vision and pictures and executed beautifully! I wouldn’t change a thing! Every detail exceeded my expectations.” Artist Stephanie Torregrossa painted the elaborate reception as guests danced the night away. As a special treat, the Zulu Tramps led Maia and Don’s Second Line. In the end, Maia says that she loved everything about the day but “the most important part was our closest family and friends witnessing our love.”

“ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS” WRITTEN BY: Jessica Burke | PHOTOGRAPHER: Karla Photography
GABRIELA AND KRISTIAN BECAME FRIENDS THRU THEIR WORK AT Ochsner Fitness Center, initially interacting with each other during planning meetings and special events. “Our relationship was always very friendly and we both enjoyed working together when the occasion arose,” shares Gabriela. “In fact, when I started hosting a 6am Tai Chi class on Sunday mornings, Kristian was the first to volunteer to help me.” Gabriela found Kristian easy to talk to and he was her “work friend” always ready to help her whenever she needed it. “Eleven months into this newfound work-friendship, we both realized we missed each other during the week if there wasn’t a meeting to attend or event to plan,” says Gabriela. “I looked forward to seeing him!” The two would talk for hours about work, their personal lives and families and one day they realized that theirs was more than just a work relationship and “we just fell into place together as a couple,” says Gabriella. “I don’t think our proposal could have been any better,” she shares. Kristian spent months planning the perfect day. “Our proposal took place above the Omni Royal Hotel in the observatory looking over the beautiful city of New Orleans and Mississippi River. Kristian, with the help of Spanish Oak Events, decorated the rooftop with candles, roses and music. We spoke of how much we meant to each other before he asked me to marry him and I said ‘Yes!’” Kristian knew how important family is to Gabriella, so he had their families waiting to surprise her and congratulate them! 46 | N.O.W | NOWWeddingMagazine.com
Gabriela and Kristian said their vows just 3 days after Christmas at Notre Dame Seminary Chapel with a reception following at The Cannery. “We told our family the only [Christmas] gift we wanted that year was their presence at our wedding. More than half of our family live out-of-state but they all managed to make it in town for our big day. Looking back now, and thanks to the current Covid-19 pandemic we find ourselves in, I’m so glad we planned it that way. Who would have known that the last time we were all together, freely hugging and kissing one another and dancing together would be at our wedding?” “Kristian and I were the last of the siblings to get married, in both of our families, so we decided to include all our nieces and nephews in our bridal party,” says Gabriella. “This meant that our bridal party consisted of 25 people! Ages ranged from a toddler to college aged. Having them each walk down the aisle was such a unique moment. It was not only a special moment we could all share together, but it just really showed how much we love our family and are loved by them.” “Our favorite part was seeing each other in that beautiful Notre Dame Chapel,” shares Gabriella. “The memory of walking down the aisle towards Kristian still brings a smile to my face. We didn’t have a first look, so Kristian had no idea what to expect as I walked in. He was overcome with emotion and I was just so happy to finally be taking this next step with him. It was the beginning of our lives together and it was beautiful! That moment was my favorite and one I will never forget it!”

Brooke Rafidi & Beau Mothe JANUARY 10, 2020
“A WHO DAT I DO” WRITTEN BY: Jessica Burke | PHOTOGRAPHER: Kacie Fayard, Studio Tran
IT WAS DECEMBER 7TH AND HIGHSCHOOL SWEETHEARTS BROOKE and Beau were out to dinner with friends. Since it was the holiday season, they just had to take their annual Christmas picture in The Roosevelt Hotel’s lobby. As Brooke posed for the photo, Beau got down on one knee. He “took my hand, and asked me for FOREVER,” shares Brooke. “I said ‘Yes, yes, yes!’ and hugged him tight for this was just the beginning of our fairytale love story come true!” “One of the most memorable parts of our wedding day was when I put my wedding dress on.” Brooke shares. “Time stopped. It was the split second when all of the memories of Beau and I rushed through my mind. I was holding back tears of gratitude. That first love. That unconditional love because even at a young age, that is what we always had and what we always will have. All of the heartbreak, the struggle, the pain and all of it came to this moment. God had blessed me with his greatest blessing of all. All of my hopes and dreams were coming true with my sister, my Matron Of Honor, Laura, right by my side through it all. Even though, so many of my family and friends were at the house and my incredible photographer, Kacie, was right in front of me, in that moment, everything and everyone disappeared… it was just me and God.” Brooke chose to dress her bridesmaids in white gowns, a color she describes as “timeless.” “It is no secret that my family loves white, and if you know our family, you’re laughing right now.” says Brooke. “An entire wedding party in all white 50 | N.O.W | NOWWeddingMagazine.com
is absolutely breathtaking…I wanted every single bridesmaid to look and feel incredible.” Brooke and Beau chose January 10, 2020, the anniversary of their first date and Brooke’s parents 30th wedding anniversary, as their wedding date and tied the knot in a breathtaking ceremony at St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter with a reception following at The Orpheum Theater. The happy couple surprised her parents with a special anniversary song “You’re The Inspiration” by Chicago at the reception. “Beau and I did our first dance to the song, ‘I’ll Be’ by Edwin McCain,” shares Brooke. “This song has left us with so many memories over the years from our time together, it was always ‘our’ song. We chose this song as kids and finding out the story behind the lyrics of the song as adults, gave it a whole new meaning to us. Our wedding night was when it all came full circle as husband and wife.” Brooke and her father did a unique father-daughter dance ending with Gumbo, the New Orleans Saints Mascot, joining them on the dance floor to get the party started! The magnificent evening ended with a sparkler sendoff and a horse-drawn carriage ride for the newlyweds.

Kristina Belanger & Kyle Musson WEDDING DATE: 10-10-2021 KRISTINA + KYLE’S STORY “Kyle and I met at a nightclub in Boston on St. Patty’s Day 2013 where I was celebrating my birthday with some friends. As soon as I saw him, I knew he was the, one so at the end of the night I approached him and we exchanged numbers. Who said you can’t find love in the club? We talked every day since and moving back up to Boston six years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. After many concerts, adventures, kitchen dance parties, foster dogs, and me getting a bonus son, Xavier, who I absolutely adore, Kyle proposed New Year’s Eve 2019 when I least expected it. We chose New Orleans for our destination wedding because on our very first trip there we loved the energy, the people, and the culture, and we want to share that with all of our family and friends.”

Jacquekeia & David
WEDDING DATE: 4-24-2021 Image Credit: Capture Studio
JACQUEKEIA + DAVID’S STORY “Saturday, May 11th 2019, was one of my best days ever! This day I graduated from SUNO and later celebrated with family and friends at my graduation party. David was being a little weird the entire night as if he was nervous. When I gave my speech thanking everyone that helped me get through this journey, I saved the best for last (him). After turning away to present him with a “thank you” gift, he got down on one knee and popped the question. I was shocked and stunned and it took me a minute to realize what was happening in front of me. After analyzing the ring for a good two minutes I replied “it’s about time.” I’m excited to embark on this journey as David’s wife!”

Three years later, we reconnected after Benji graduated medical school and matched for residency in New Orleans at LSU. He proposed on May 29, 2020 at Audubon Park’s “Tree of Life.” As I was admiring the tree, Benji got down on one knee and presented the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.
