MAPPING THE
WEAR -UNBRAIDING
[ INTRODUCTION ]
[W E A R ] A unique moment in the life of material: those occasions when matter is subjected to use and reshaped by human contact- through touch, passage, pressure, stroking, scratching or holding.Termed ‘wear’, evidence of contact or use while inevitable can also be seen as an active agency. - Shayne O’Neil

[INTRODUCTION]
[UNBRAIDING ] - To separate (anything braided, as hair) into the several strands. - To unwind, disentagle, unravel
[PURPOSE ] The purpose is to understand UNBRAIDING, a type of wear in fabric structures when it is subjected to use and reshaped by human contact. The focus is to understand its abstract architectural applications through mapping and analysis.
[SURVEY ] Locating and retrieving material samples in situ- a field observation of public spaces, domestic settings, working environments and the way wear affects their materiality and the phenomena causing wear to occur.

[ INTERPRETATION ]
VERTICAL
[ WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT ?]
Wear is inevitable. So, taking the weave structure from horizontal plane to the vertical plane would allow people to notice and experience the unbraiding while passing through it. Allowing wear to take place on purpose would justify its concept for application in design. HORIZONTAL
