Make the most of the new year- with us at Adult Community Learning you can learn new skills, improve your job prospects, take up a new interest or return to learning,. We have lots of new classes starting in January in more than 20 locations across Neath Port Talbot.

Please enrol early to avoid disappointment. Your place on a course cannot be guaranteed until payment is received. Important Information All classes are correct at the time of print. We may change or add to the courses advertised, for instance where a course is under or over-subscribed. New courses may be introduced throughout the year. Learners’ interests are taken into consideration where a change is made. A class needs a minimum of 8 learners enrolled to run, so if you are interested in attending a course, why not bring a friend? If you see a course that you like but it’s not being run in your area, please let us know as we may be able to arrange a class if there is enough interest.

Course Fees
Course Fees, Financial Assistance & Support ALL courses: £100 per 30 weeks (This can be paid in two instalments of £60.) For short courses please contact us or visit our website www.nptacl.org All fees are fully refundable if any course is cancelled or moved to an unacceptable location.

Concessions You may be eligible for a reduction in course costs if you are a low income household or in receipt of a means tested benefit. These include: Jobseekers Allowance Income support Housing Benefit Pension Credit Employment Support Allowance If you are eligible, the course fee will be just £5 for courses up to 10 weeks and £15 for a 30 week course. FREE 4Gb USB Memory Sticks For some classes, learners are given the option of keeping their files electronically on a USB memory stick as opposed to keeping a traditional file. Alternatively, USB sticks can be purchased for £6
The Adult Learner Fund Do you need help paying for your learning? It is the aim of Neath Port Talbot Adult Community Learning that no learner is turned away through inability to pay! We can help with course fees, resources, transport etc. Interested? Art, Craft & Design Art Mixed Media Courses are suitable for beginners or more advanced learners. All techniques will be covered and various media will be used - soft pencils, charcoal, oil, pastels, watercolour, pen and ink etc.
Card Making Learn how to make gift cards, invitations and gift boxes for all occasions Make do and Mend Save Money - STOP throwing things away! Childcare Introduction to Childcare A practical accredited course preparing students for the level 2 Diploma looking at children’s social, emotional, physical and creative development. QCF Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development Level 2 Recognised qualification for those caring for children up to sixteen years of age. Students will need to attend a work placement, which will also be assessed, for this programme of study and have a current CRB disclosure.
Child Psychology A practical course that uses experiments and case studies to understand the relationship between parent and child.

Health and Wellbeing Counselling Skills Would you like to learn more about the skills required to be a good listener? Topics include: Active Listening, Reflecting, Paraphrasing This course is an excellent introduction to the role of a counsellor, if you are thinking about working in an advice/guidance role or even if you work closely with the public. Construction Plumbing Would you like to learn the basics of plumbing maintenance? Well this is the course for you! In 20 weeks you will gain sufficient knowledge to understand how to fault find and repair various taps and valves within your own home!’
Plastering Would you like to develop skills and knowledge About plastering?
Topics include fixing of plaster sheet materials, internal solid work, preparing a safe working area and a surface for plastering. Prepare, fix and skim plasterboard, fix coving and dado to an acceptable standard, efficient working practices and health and safety.
Brickwork Learners will develop skills in building half brick and one brick walls, corners and stopped ends. Essential knowledge for the craft of bricklaying. Topics include brick and block walling, materials handling, wall details, groundwork, prepare a safe working area, efficient working practices and Health and Safety. Suitable for learners at all levels.

Cooking Confidence to Cook Learn the basics of cookery in a fun, friendly environment. Skills and topics include: Basic Health and Safety, Basic Food Hygiene, Basic Food preparation, Use of kitchen equipment etc There will be a range of recipes made over this 10 week course.
Jamie Oliver’s Home Cooking Skills The course consists of over 80 recipes, all divided into manageable sections and covering key topics from eggs and baking to vegetables and quick-cook meats. This is all supported by a range of fact sheets dealing with other basics and essentials such as food labelling and how to shop cleverly.
Food Safety Award The EDI Food Safety Award is an industry recognised qualification. This award is available at level 1, 2 and 3 for both Catering and Retail . Get Baking Learn how to bake home made bread, pastry, cakes and biscuits.

IT Computer basics If you are an absolute beginner with using a computer or want to brush up on your skills this is the class for you. You will gain confidence in both using the computer and making the most of its many useful features. This will include word processing, desktop publishing, web browsing and E mail.
Digital Photography Made Easy Learn how to transfer photos from your camera or iPad to your computer, save, send by email or set as a desktop background.
Also covered - how to generally improve your photos e.g. reducing redeye, cropping, brightening etc. Unlock the mysteries of Desktop Publishing Learn how to create eye catching posters, invitations, adverts, greeting cards etc
Web Design Would you like to learn how to create your own website? If so, this is the course for you! Learn how to design and build your own website. For all those budding entrepreneurs, learn how to advertise and sell your business online to a world wide audience.
