PORTFOLIO

ABOUT Hi, I’m Nicole, and a senior in high school. I like to travel and be outside, spending my summers on the lake. I also enjoy reading and being active in my school and community. I am loving graphic design and plan to continue learning it in college. I hope to find a way to explore graphic design as a career, and am excited to see what the future holds for me.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

LOW POLY TURTLE This design was done as an assignment in class, to learn and apply different techniques in Adobe Illustrator. We were limited to using only triangle, and no other geometric shapes. I chose to do a turtle because I enjoy the variations of the color green it included, and the way I could use varying sizes of triangles to show detail of the turtle. I also carried the triangles through the piece in the background, to help tie in the image, and create a sense of unity between the turtle and the background.

SKILLSUSA T-SHIRT

This project was chosen to create a tshirt for our class and the SkillsUSA chapter. We were limited to two colors, and also designed a black and white version. I chose to do this design, because it represents thinking out of the box, and has a simplistic, minimalist feel, that I believe is a great representation of a graphic design class or organization.

MOCK-UPS

POP ART POSTER This design was an earlier work, in which we were learning the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and how to maneuver through the program. I chose a free-use picture that had a bright background to give the image a more cartoon-esque feel.

PIN DESIGN This pin design was created for competition at the 2018 SkillsUSA conference. For the design, I was limited to four colors, and to either create the shape in a rectangle, oval, circle, or Arkansas. I chose a circle because it fit well with the design I chose, repeating the arc of the sunset. In this design, I created an outline of Little Rock, and gave it a sort of retro feel in the background. I also used the three colors of SkillsUSA, red, blue, and gold, each with its own unique meaning.

BAND POSTER This project was an open-ended project, wherein we were only limited to creating a band poster. I chose to do myposter on Dodie, because she is an artist I love to listen to, and the type of content she puts out matches the aesthetic I have in my designs. I used the pen tool to recreate her signature, and have a fun, lighthearted feel throughout the poster. I used a ukulele case tied onto balloons because her main instrument is ukulele, and balloons are a part of her album cover.

PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN POSTERS I did this series to learn and illustrate the different principles of design. Each piece represents a different principle. For this series, I was limited to just a few elements, colors, textures, and a quote. I had to learn and apply the different definitions into the pieces. I chose to follow a vintage travel theme, getting inspiration from modern/ vintage style posters. I used this to create a recurring theme throughout the pieces.

GLOW RUN POSTER Our classes were commissioned to design the annual Glow Run sponsored by the Center for Art and Education. This fundraiser, held in Van Buren, AR, was to raise money for a new building for the CAE. I went with this design because it represents the “glow aspect of the glow run, and has many creative qualities that represent the Center for Art and Education. I chose to repeat the triangles throughout the text, and give a geometric feel with lines, and create a prism of light, within the design.

LOGOS

KUHS LOGO Our classes were commissioned to create a new logo for the local radio station, KUHS. I had a number of ideas, and did research on their website and social media pages to help understand the client. I chose to go with this logo, because it has a very clean and new feel, with retro hints, as well as a naturistic tone to embody the mountains around Hot Springs, where the station is located. I also liked this design because it works well in black and white, and can be used on a variety of mediums.

FIRST PERSONAL LOGO

This project to create a logo, was to broaden our horizons with animations, and as a project specifically for us. I made many mockups, but settled on this design because I think it represents my style, very clean and minimal, with more muted colors. I also enjoyed making the animation, moving the initials and dropped letters of my name, and learning the process.

REDESIGNED PERSONAL LOGO

As a second year design student, one of the first projects we took on was to recreate and brand our personal logos. I chose to completely redo my design, and giving my brand a new feel. I went with a bolder text, and more primary colors, while still keeping a clean aesthetic. I also created a brand style guide and identity mock-ups to help create unity throughout my works.
