Off to see the Blizzard!

On a cold winter day, November 18, 1948, in Nebraska. Farmers started to pick all their crops, and get ready for Winter that was coming, it was great. Until they heard that a blizzard was going to roar into the state with heavy snow. Before everyone heard about this blizzard, everyone was getting ready, when this blizzard came out of no where, everyone was not ready for the first part of winter would come the winter for this, the wind was blowing almost 100 miles per hour, taking away houses. It was literally hailing golf ball sized hail and the snow was almost blowing people off there feet. Snow covered every inch of the ground. It was only white, everywhere you looked, was white. There was a combination of rain, snow, and hail, creating perception. The ground was slick with ice sheets, icicles hang from the roofs of homes vanished in snow. Anyone who was stuck out in the blizzard would suffer from frostbite, be burried in snow, and freeze to death. If it wasn't for the temperature it would be only freezing rain, but it froze which left a coating of slippery freezing ice. If you were smart you would intend on wearing and having warm clothing ready for one blizzards like this hit. Winter isn't always a winter wonderland. BY: LILLY MONROE

1. Even light snow showers with strong winds can create blizzard like conditions very quickly although for a short time. The weather can be very deceiving!

2.

3.

A blizzard is a severe snow storm with winds in excess of 35 mph and visibility of less than a quarter mile for more than 3 hours. Blizzards can also occur after snowfall when high winds cause whiteouts (fallen snow blowing around) and snowdrifts (huge mountains of snow), which decrease visibility. To avoid hypothermia if caught outdoors during a blizzard, stay hydrated and nourished, keep your blood flowing by moving around, if your clothes are wet, try to start a fire to dry them, create a snow cave to block winds which reduce your body temperature, and do not eat snow (it will make you colder!). HURRICANES

Hurricane Sandy most deadliest hurricane of 2012!

Super storm leaves wide spread flooding & power outages

HURRICANE SANDY OUT RAGES ! The 10th named storm of the 2012 hurricane season, Hurricane Sandy affected a wide area of the Atlantic, with deaths extending from Haiti and Jamaica to Canada The sun was setting as the moon and the murky sky made it’s appearance. Blistering winds hit against our boarded plank windows. Roaring thunder sounded as if we were in war with nature. I was not frightened much, but i was very anxious. My dogs nervously walked around the house whining and crying as if they knew something was going terribly wrong. I was not very likely to know how to comfort the. I was not comfortable myself. I could feel the pressure drop, and the howling winds get stronger as it rattled through my door. I took a quick peek through one of the unsecured windows and saw an atrocity of chaos everywhere. [4]

Sandy leaves destruction in the Pacific Coast, also making the most chaos in New York and New Jersey with flash floods and power outages.

One of the scariest days of my life was on May 11, 1953. It all started on on e n ormally f in e d a y, Mothers Day to be exact. The day started off like normal, woke up, ate breakfast, got dressed, but we headed off to my Grandmothers house around one o’clock. A few hours passed when it was shortly passed four p.m. The clouds started flowing in. Thunder beamed among the clouds from a distance. Lightning bolts nearly touching the ground, flew across the sky. You then heard the sirens go off in the distance getting closer and closer , where you can hear it ringing in your ears. As the sky turned a nasty greenish black, the wind started to pick up speed. I stood amazed speechless, not able to move, frozen, while i watch the sky starting to swirl it touches the ground, a tornado. As it steers my way , it turns an ugly brown and black from all the dirt its picking up. In the near distance I hear my name being called over and over again, but i remain still. Then i get an unexpected blow to my shoulder blade. As I reel back into reality, I am being

pulled by my Mother, shes holding my sister in her arms, brothers at her side. We all rush into the basement with my other family members. We huddle together while we listen to the vast destruction occurring above us. The disastrous noise stops. We slowly crawl out of what is left to see, nothing but scarce rubbish everywhere. Nothing, nothing is there. We then realized later that day it was an F5. Nearly one third of a mile wide. Killing 114 people and injuring 597. Destroyed 600 homes, damaged 1000, including 2000 vehicles. Some of the survivors had to wait up to 14 hours for rescue. This is the story of how the worst tornado that ever happened in Texas called The Waco To r n a d o , d e s t r o y e d everything in sight. This goes to show how destructive a tornado can be. By Samantha Anderson Waco Tornado occured on May 11,1953.

Whether the Weather By: Elizabeth Witvliet Why Do you ever walk outside and wonder why Indiana is bitter cold and snowing for part of the year and scorching hot for another part of the year. Well if you do you’re probably not the only one. This article will tell you interesting and important facts about the weather we experience in Indiana. Indiana’s Climate Indiana has a humid continental climate. A humid continental climate experiences seasons and is also a smaller part of a bigger climate type called temperate. Humid continental climates have hot summers and cold winters. In Indiana we have four seasons: summer, fall, winter, and spring. During the summer it is hot. In the fall the temperature begins to decrease as we get closer to winter. The winter time is cold. In the springtime temperatures begin to increase as we head into summer. We experience seasons because of Earth’s revolution around the sun. Our weather pattern can also be affected by the wind. Down below you can see the average temperature of each month in Indiana. What to Expect There isn’t just nice warm days and unbearable cold days in Indiana. There’s a lot more that happens. All of our weather comes from the northwest. When a warm or cold front comes through it usually causes a thunderstorm to occur. Sometimes thunderstorms are so bad that it hails, or even worse stirs up a tornado. Sometimes we just get rain or snow it depends on the temperature though. During the winter we can get hammered with snow and experience the blistering winds of a blizzard. In Indiana we do not experience hurricanes but we do experience rain from them. Sometimes the rain from hurricanes causes flooding in Indiana. Lake Effect Snow Lake effect snow means that you are going to get extra snow. Only the northwest part of Indiana gets lake effect snow. It is experienced because that part of Indiana is close to Lake Michigan. How lake effect snow works in Indiana is cold winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water. The winds pick up water vapor that freezes and changes into more snow. High and Low Temperature Month Records: Month
