Latham, have transformed the future for thousands of North Shore residents through dedicated service, advocacy, and philanthropy. ABOUT The
NSCC FOUNDATION
FOUNDED IN 1983, the NSCC Foundation’s mission is to create financial capacity for NSCC to realize its mission of student success. Strategies include: a scholarship program which has awarded more than $3.4M in scholarships to over 4,000 students; technical assistance, allowing NSCC to respond to evolving educational and economic priorities; facility development and enhancement to improve teaching and learning environments; and civic engagement to improve the quality of life in our communities. The NSCC Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization led by a dedicated Board of Directors who volunteer their time and expertise to support the growth of the organization for the benefit of the College and its students. Mary Sarris
Executive Director North Shore Workforce Investment Board Mary Sarris is an unsung hero of the North Shore. As Executive Director of the North Shore Workforce Investment Board, she has strengthened the region’s workforce development system, aligning and integrating it with higher education. Ms. Sarris has influenced the strategic advancement of NSCC for two decades, serving as a past chair of the NSCC Board of Trustees, currently as a NSCC Foundation Director, and as chair of the Search Committee for the hiring of NSCC’s third president, Dr. Wayne M. Burton. She informs NSCC’s academic program planning and assessment, ensuring the college is responsive to local workforce needs and priorities. Recently, she relocated one of the three North Shore Career Centers to NSCC’s Lynn campus, providing a convenient, accessible location for area residents in a college setting, and valuable career services for NSCC students. Her visionary and collaborative style has endeared her to countless business and industry partners, elected officials and community leaders. Ms. Sarris also serves on the North Shore Technology Council.

NSCC CHAMPIONS AWARD HONOREE
In recognition of PUBLIC SERVICE & ADVOCACY
Catherine C. Latham, Ed.D.
Superintendent Lynn Public Schools, 2009-2018 From the classroom to the office of Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Latham’s career has been defined by her passion for education and unwavering dedication to Lynn students and their families. As Superintendent of Lynn Public Schools (LPS) from 2009–2018, Dr. Latham was driven by the knowledge and the responsibility that education is the key to bright futures for all youth. In 2014, Dr. Latham joined with NSCC to launch an Early College pilot program for LPS students through CommUniverCity — an NSCC inspired birth-to-career initiative to increase educational and career training opportunities for low-income residents. Since that time, 350 LPS high school students have enrolled and completed EC courses at NSCC, tuition free. Thanks to Dr. Latham, students who once did not believe college was an option for them are now on their way to earning college degrees. Dr. Latham is a lifelong resident of Lynn and a graduate of LPS, Salem State College and the University of Massachusetts Boston.
