Dean’s Message
s the summer breezes are left behind and the flames of autumn are kindled and evident in the colors of the leaves around us, it is certainly time to consider how to ignite (or re-ignite) your passion for learning! What better place to learn something new or to refresh your memory than at North Shore Community College? Take a close look at our new Corporate and Community Education catalog, as many of our programs have been redesigned to make sure that you have the most updated skills for your existing job or to pursue a new career. Added to many of our existing certificates, courses in time management and conflict management help round out your employability skills. We have added a Sustainability Management course using our incredible zero-net building in Danvers as a laboratory for learning! There is a brand new Cyber Security Certification program—a hot field that is in the newspaper almost daily! We have a newly-redesigned Network Systems program that leads to Cisco Certification and are offering a totally redesigned course in Creating Websites. And if working in the beauty industry is something that sparks your interest, we are now offering our Aesthetics program during the day—compare our facility and our pricing to other offerings and you will see that we have the highest-quality most cost-effective Aesthetics program anywhere! If working in an office has been a burning desire and you haven’t taken any steps toward that future, register for our newly revised Front End Office Certificate where we have added two courses: Terminology for Medical Office and Business Communication and Office Skills so that you can choose to take either a Bookkeeping or Medical Office pathway. Make sure that you are also lighting the flames of learning for your children! If your child has expressed a passion for the health care industry, we have a great new program called … wait for it … SCRUBS! And, for the first time ever, your children will be able to take cooking or cosmetology classes in our fantastic new facility in Middleton or they can register for Aesthetics (really!) at our Cummings Center site. SOCRATES Our Corporate programs are hot, hot, hot! Employers are working with our Corporate Training Solutions team to train their incumbent workers and to investigate ways in which their companies can pursue grants to help pay for training. On top of all that (as if all that excitement weren’t enough to set you afire!) make sure you watch for our move to our Danvers campus! Our Adult Learning Center will be heading to Danvers in the fall and the rest of Corporate and Community Education will be moving before our Winter/Spring term. Register today! Call us at 978-236-1200 or check out our website at www.northshore.edu and click on Community Education. If interested in contacting us about our Corporate Training Solutions, click on Corporate Education. Fall is the perfect time to make sure that the flame of learning does not turn to embers!
Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.

Tai Chi for Fitness and Wellness
Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese exercise for the mind and body. Originally practiced as a martial art, today it is practiced throughout the world for health and wellness. Based on nature and harmony and the philosophy of yin and yang, we practice these gentle slow and flowing movements with the idea that you are moving against resistance as though the air is dense and thick. This builds inner power and can help strengthen the bones and muscles, improve mental and physical balance and can improve and possibly prevent chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes. Train at your own level as you begin learning the fundamentals of the traditional Yang tai chi long form for increased health and longevity. COURSE CODE
