Smart people understand there’s more to learning than just what’s in the books. That’s why, at NSCC, we value the student experience — meaning everything that takes place inside and outside the classroom.

No Shortage of Things To Do You’ll find there’s no shortage of things to do. Some activities are academically related, like special-interest learning communities (see Learn More), honor societies, and clubs for certain majors. Others are for people with specific interests, such as the Film Club (for movie buffs) and the Performing Arts Council (for theater, dance, and music aficionados). Still others are just for fun — Surfriders Club, anyone?

Join In and Have Fun All of these offerings are to make your time at NSCC more enjoyable and meaningful. By getting involved, you’ll make new friends. You’ll develop leadership skills, like planning and organizing. Most of all, you’ll have a good time and feel like you’re part of the NSCC community. And research shows all that leads you to have a better classroom experience. What’s not to love?

For People Just Like Me! One-of-a-Kind Learning Opportunities One of the great things about NSCC is the chance to be part of a learning community — a group of students with similar interests and experiences. By joining, you’ll meet like-minded people and can take advantage of special activities or support services. NSCC learning communities include:

Honors Program: for academically motivated students, offering a social network along with advising from an honors counselor

Bridges to the STARS: for women and minorities interested in science, math, or technology

Service-Learning: courses that include community service as part of the academic experience, allowing you to work with children, elders, or non-profit organizations needing assistance

Project Enable: an introductory college program for GED recipients that includes skills training, career and learning assessments, and social events

TRIO: federal outreach and student services programs for those facing particular challenges, such as low income, being the first in their family to attend college, or individuals with disabilities

College2Career Program: for students interested in pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing technology, financial services or health care. Students are then matched with community-based employment services to achieve their career goals.

Get ahead in high school NSCC’s Dual Enrollment Program allows high school and home-schooled students to earn college credit while still in high school. We’ll work with you to design an individualized program based on your academic and educational goals.
