UNIT 1: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT


CONTEXT: As a practitioner in the Creative Industries it is important to employ a consistent professional

practice methodology in order to produce effective work and also to maintain, develop and refine the knowledge and practical skills which will serve you throughout your professional career. Whilst developing work for this unit you will engage in the creation of vlog posts which will help you to develop considered and consistent understanding of the Creative Industries including potential careers and roles that you could pursue in the future, and also methods by which you can examine and reflect upon your own skills and practices and asses key achievements and developments you can make in order to cultivate the skills and knowledge necessary for a future career within the creative industries.

GRADING CRITERIA



SECTION 1: GROUND BREAKERS: EPISODE 1: A timeline that identifies key developments and practitioners within the creative industries since the birth of digital online content (from 2000 onwards.) This must reference and contain information on key developments and practitioners related to your specialist area of study. EPISODE 2: Choose a practitioner that you have identified in Episode 1 and review their work in relation to the wider developments of the creative industries. EPISODE 3: Evaluate how the key historic developments have impacted on your specialism noting areas of benefit and negative impacts/unintended consequences, and analyse the successful adaptability of practitioners in this field. These episodes provide evidence for P1, P2, M1, D1 Checklist of Evidence required to complete task: • Vlog episodes 1 - 3

SECTION 2: SKILLS AUDIT: EPISODE 4: Produce a skills audit identifying your existing skills, experience, and knowledge across the following disciplines: • Graphic Design • Photography • Cinematography • Motion Graphic Design This episode provides evidence for P3 EPISODES 5 - 10: For each of your practical modules on this course you will: Discuss software, processes and techniques you intend to develop, and how you what resources you will use to develop these. Each of these short 30 second Vlogs will be critical in discussions towards your intentions, and must be completed at the commencement of the modules. EPISODE 5 = Cinematography (Semester 1) EPISODE 6 = Visual Narratives (Semester 1) EPISODE 7 = Design Principles (Semester 2) EPISODE 8 = Screen Based Practices (Semester 2) EPISODE 9 = Individual Project (Semester 2) EPISODE 10 = Techniques & Processes (Semester 2) These episodes provide evidence for P5, P6, P7


EPISODE 11 - 16: For each of the practical modules on this course you will create a thirty second evaluative Vlog which evaluates your development against your original set intentions. EPISODE 11 = Cinematography Evaluation (Semester 1) EPISODE 12 = Visual Naratives Evaluation (Semester 1) EPISODE 13 =Design Principles Evaluation (Semester 2) EPISODE 14 = Screen Based Practices Evaluation (Semester 2) EPISODE 15 = Individual Project Evaluation (Semester 2) EPISODE 16 = Techniques and Processes Evaluation (Semester 2) These episodes provide evidence for P8


EPISODE 17: By this point you have identified how industries have converged, and that the development of skills and cross sector discipline is necessary to the existence in future roles. You will discuss this matter offering key examples, before comparing educational developmental opportunities with professional practice, focusing on positives and negatives. This episode provides evidence for M2, M3 EPISODE 18: In preparation for specialising your practise within the second year of your studies, you will explore career opportunities related to your chosen pathway. What do you need to further develop and how do you intend on doing this? You will then assess how you have developed this year, providing key examples, towards the skills and knowledge necessary for this, before analysing your future development plans in relation to the achievement of your goals.
