In 1913, Hollyburn Elementary School was built as a tworoom school house in the picturesque seaside community of Ambleside. Today, the school combines the charm of a heritage building with the modern tools needed for teaching in the 21st century. Dundarave was named after Dundarave Castle in Scotland. Originally, the area was a notable secluded holiday spot for vacationing Vancouverites; however, in 1914 a pier was built at 25th Street and the area flourished. The very first West Vancouver swimming club was created in Dundarave and it also held the very first regatta. On June 2 the space will become home to a craft fair, stage and more!

FERRY BUILDING LANDING The foot of the 14th Street Pier is home to the Ferry Building Gallery, a wood-frame building constructed in 1912. The primary heritage value of the Ferry Building Gallery is in its association with West Vancouver’s ferry and bus services, both of which were essential to the development of a community. The Ferry Building opened as the Ambleside terminus in 1913 with the Shamrock Tea Room attached. For our Centennial Community Day Celebration, the Ferry Building will bring back their status as a terminus with boat tours taking passengers to and from Horseshoe Bay.
