2021 REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

Dear Friends, 2021 was another year for the books. While COVID-19 continued to strain our hospitals, schools and economy, our donors and nonprofit leaders doubled down to address immediate needs and develop solutions for the longer-term challenges we face. When the ice storm hit in February, your support for the Better Together Fund helped families keep food on the table and get the lights back on. Donors focused on our economic future stepped up to provide Tarrant To & Through (T3) with catalytic funding to create pathways to college and career success. They also provided a half-million dollars to local leaders working to create a more equitable community through the Fund to Advance Racial Equity. We welcomed 46 new funds into the NTCF family and were honored to develop legacy plans for new friends and old. All told, our donors’ generosity enabled the Foundation to grant nearly $30 million to high-performing nonprofit organizations and exceed $500 million in assets in 2021. Behind these numbers are stories of people who bring tremendous passion to their giving, leveraging their creativity and strategic thinking to help organizations deepen their impact. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we’re humbled by the positive change created by our donors’ charitable investments. By working together, we are creating a better future for individuals and communities in North Texas. Thanks to you, we’re here for good, forever.

THE FOUNDATION FOR GOOD

Maximizing Philanthropic Impact Private Foundation opts for streamlined solution For John Snyder, success is about more than bank accounts and dollar signs. It’s about making the largest charitable impact in the most strategic and efficient way possible. Since its inception in the early 80’s, the Nancy and John Snyder Foundation supported nonprofits that protect our most vulnerable neighbors, particularly those that do so through a “Had I known how faith-based approach. After nearly three decades easy it would be, I would of managing his private foundation, John began to consider other vehicles for his giving. have converted to a donor Through his research, John discovered that the Community Foundation could help accomplish his charitable goals — without the administrative and compliance burdens of managing a private foundation. In 2015, he converted his family’s foundation into a donor advised fund at NTCF. Grants from the Fund continue to support highperforming organizations addressing critical needs in Tarrant County, such as Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, The Center for Transforming Lives, Presbyterian Night Shelter, Union Gospel Mission, and many more.

THE FOUNDATION FOR IMPACT

Building Economic Success in Fort Worth Fundholders invest today in the talent of tomorrow Today, 65% of jobs in North Texas require a postsecondary credential, yet only 39% of adults in Tarrant County possess an associate degree or higher. The Tarrant To & Through Partnership (T3) creates opportunities for Tarrant County students to obtain the postsecondary credentials necessary for a thriving career. By helping students navigate educational options and explore career development opportunities, T3 is building economic success throughout the region. Since its inception, over 8,000 students across six Fort Worth ISD high schools have opted into the program. In 2021, the first cohort of T3 scholars graduated high school and 936 of those students enrolled at a T3 partner college or university.

“Students sitting in classrooms today in Tarrant County are the workforce of tomorrow. The right resources – information, mentors, funding – can make sure Tarrant County is brighter and better than we’ve ever been before.”

To date, North Texas Community Foundation fundholders have granted over $630,000 to ensure that more students will be given the opportunity to achieve lifelong career success. THE FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNITY

We are Better Together Rapidly mobilizing grants strengthens a community in crisis The Better Together Fund, launched in 2020, has granted more than $1 million to support projects focusing on community recovery, including education, workforce development, service industry support, medical and mental health care, and other basic needs. With the support of generous donors, the Fund rapidly mobilized grants to 39 organizations addressing the effects of the pandemic and winter storm of 2021 — setting us on the path to economic recovery. In the months and years ahead, the Fund will be used to quickly deploy funds as needed in times of crisis.

“After the troubled times brought on by the pandemic, the winter storm in February 2021 hit struggling families hard. The Better Together grant allowed us to go above and beyond to support our clients.” STACI MARKWARDT,

CEO, PARKER COUNTY CENTER OF HOPE

THE FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE

A Legacy of Giving Ensuring longevity for the causes we care about most Always striving to make a difference where it is needed most, Sally Werst McKeen’s life has been defined by her unwavering support for the community. More than just a donor, Sally has volunteered as a board member for over 30 nonprofit organizations, including Tarrant Area Food Bank, Leadership Fort Worth, Cancer Care Services and North Texas Community Foundation. Her father’s need for hospice care led Sally to become a driving force in creating Community Healthcare of Texas – the largest nonprofit hospice provider in the state.

“It’s important for me to give to causes I care about so that my favorite health and human needs nonprofits can carry on in providing much-needed services to our community.” SALLY WERST MCKEEN

Today, Sally honors her parents’ legacy of giving by managing the endowed Doris C. and Harry K. Werst Fund. She also utilizes her personal fund at the Community Foundation to strengthen area nonprofits, respond to community needs and support veteran organizations in memory of her late husband, Major General Chet McKeen. As a Legacy Society donor, Sally finds peace of mind knowing that a portion of her own estate will continue to ensure the longevity of the organizations and causes she supports – long beyond her lifetime.

THE FOUNDATION FOR CHANGE

Strengthening Community Connections How one fund is building a more equitable future for North Texans The Fund to Advance Racial Equity (FARE) was formed in 2020, thanks to the generosity of our fundholders, to support nonprofits and municipal entities working to achieve a more equitable community for all. To date, the Fund has delivered more than a half-million dollars in grants to help increase trust between residents and law enforcement, heal historic divides and develop new relationships in the community. Together with grantee organizations, the Fund hopes to create a community where all residents can learn, work, and further contribute to a healthy, thriving and prosperous place to call home.

“As a grassroots organization, our FARE grant bolstered our ability to provide programming and events, like Opal’s Walk for Juneteenth, that brought people together across racial boundaries and fostered unity.” DIONE SIMS, PRESIDENT, UNITY UNLIMITED
