Look, that's me in the Guinness World Records 2018 book!

Ed’s L etter Hi guys, Well, the Christmas countdown has officially started in my house! We put up the tree and I have given Mum, Dad (and Santa!) my official wish list... I hope they all remember how good I've been this year! We're also celebrating the holiday season in this issue of It GiRL. Our mini Christmas special starts on page 22 and includes really cute cut-out gift tags. Also this month two super-exciting things happened to me... first I got to attend the launch of the new book series, Nevermoor and I was lucky enough to meet the author of the books, Jessica Townsend. She was so cool and really friendly, it was a fun night. Oh, and if you turn to page 50 you can read a sneak peek from the first book in the series, The Trials of Morrigan Crow. I think you guys will really like it. I was in class and I was bored so I started dreaming about Justin Bieber. I was totally in my own world so I didn’t hear my teacher calling my name. When he said, “I’m sorry, Larissa, am I keeping you from something more important than my lesson?”, I snapped to attention and said, “No, sorry Mr Bieber.” The whole class burst out laughing and I ended up getting into trouble for not paying attention. To make matters worse, some of the boys in my class now call me Mrs. Bieber. It was all so embarrassing.

SWINGING SISTER I was at the park with my BFF and we were on the swings seeing who could swing the highest. I was swinging up really high when I saw a big dog come into the park. I’m really scared of dogs so I stopped concentrating on what I was doing and ended up flying off the swing. I hurt myself pretty bad and was really embarrassed, but I was too worried about the dog to care!

I was up the coast with my family when my cousin, my brother and I decided to go exploring. We found an old abandoned house, but we couldn’t get close to it because it had a huge locked gate. My brother was convinced that I was small enough to fit through the bars so he made me try and I ended up getting my head stuck! My cousin had to go and get help and my parents ended up calling the fire department to come and get me out. I was crying my eyes out and was so embarrassed. My brother even took photos!

HEAD DILEMMA

NOISY GUEST I was sleeping over my friend’s house and I really needed to go to the toilet. I went downstairs to use the toilet down there as no one really uses that one in her house. I was in the middle of doing my business when I accidentally let out a really big fart. I was so shocked to hear someone laughing on the other side of the door and was too embarrassed to go back upstairs afterwards. When I eventually when back up, my friend told me her little brother heard me and told everyone!

SICK STUDENT We were on a bus on a school excursion and we were driving up a winding road. I started to feel a bit sick, but just closed my eyes and hoped the feeling would go away. But all of a sudden I vomited all over the floor and on the shoes of my friend sitting next to me. The bus had to stop so everyone could get off while the teachers cleaned up my vomit. It was so embarrassing and I felt really bad.

All About Me

I LIVE NEAR THE BEACH and I love it. I like to go down to the beach and hang out about four or five times a week. I can’t imagine living anywhere else. I REALLY ENJOY SCHOOL. My favourite thing at school is seeing my friends and when we do art. I would say my least favourite thing is homework. MY BEST FRIENDS ARE Zoey, Madeson and Stella. We’ve been friends since year one. Our favourite things to do together is go to the beach, have sleepovers and visit each other’s houses. I DO GYMNASTICS. When I was little mum put me into dance classes and I didn’t like it. So she put me into gymnastics instead and I love it a lot. WHEN I AM OLDER I HOPE TO BECOME A MARINE BIOLOGIST. I love all animals but sea animals are my favourite. Especially whales and seahorses. I COLLECT SHELLS. I have a really big collection already. Living near the beach is handy for this.

ZENDAYA TAKES A CHANCE

Zendaya recalls a time when she did something daring at an audition. “It was one of my first jobs and all these kids could do crazy things,” remembers the star. “They could do flips or spins or something cool, right? And I just couldn’t. I was a normal dancer. I had charisma, but I could only dance.” But Zendaya wanted to stand out so she decided to do a front flip! “Never did one before in my life, other than inside my living room playing around. Thank God I landed it! It could have been terrible.” But it worked and Zendaya got the part. Woo!

JENNA ORTEGA LOVES FAMILY TIME Despite being a famous celeb, Stuck In The Middle star, Jenna Ortega loves nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. “I love that I can go home to Coachella Valley and see my family and friends who have been with me from day one,” the Disney Channel star shared. “It’s nice to have them by my side always.” Her family definitely doesn’t give her any special treatment either! “I get home from the set and they do not forget to tell me that there are dishes in the sink waiting for me. They keep my feet on the ground.”

ANTHONY’S SPECIAL CHRISTMAS GIFT

Anthony Gonzalez is the 12-year-old actor who voices Miguel in the new Disney movie, Coco. The star recently revealed how he found out he got the part. “I auditioned, and it was a long process about a year,” he remembers. “Eventually, I went to the Pixar headquarters to do test voices. Then last Christmas, they said they had a present for me and brought me this box. I opened it and there was this beautiful piece of artwork that just said, ‘You got the part’. I was so shocked, I just fell to the floor. I couldn’t believe it.” Aw, that’s so cool!

CHLOE’S DREAM SLUMBER ROOM

If there’s one thing that Chloe Lukasiak loves just as much as dancing, it’s sleepovers. In fact, the dancer even has a whole room dedicated to slumber parties! “When we moved into our new house a few years ago, my sister and I each got a room in the basement to do whatever we wanted with,” Chloe explained. “I decided that a sleepover room would be awesome.” The room has four bunks, coloured flashing lights and is decorated with photos and gifts fans have given Chloe.

CAMILA’S FEAR OF DANCING

It’s hard to believe that singer, Camila Cabello used to be scared to dance in public but it’s true! “To be honest, I never used to dance when I was little,” confessed the star. “I was super shy.” Camila adds, “I would cry at all the holiday parties when people started dancing, but music has pulled it out of me. My grandma, who is really proud, thought I was a lost cause as far as dancing goes.” Wow, we’re so impressed that Camila was able to beat her fear and become the star she is today!

MADDIE’S BOOK PLANS

First she wrote her memoir, The Maddie Diaries, then she wrote her first fiction book, The Audition, and now Maddie Ziegler has ideas up her sleeve for more fiction books! “There are plenty of books that I now see myself writing in the future, and there are plenty of ideas for that, but for the first ones, it had to be about dance,” she shared. “Dance is my life.”

JACOB’S GONNA STAY REAL Jacob Sartorius talks about the pressures of being a young star. “It’s crazy. You throw a normal kid into the spotlight and expect them to be perfect,” he said. “Everyone’s human so I’m gonna make mistakes... I don’t think people can be perfect, but I’m just gonna try to be myself and stay humble.”

DOVE’S PLANS FOR THE FUTURE When asked where she sees herself in 10 years, Dove Cameron revealed she has no plan. “I try not to plan anything,” said Dove. “I don’t even think about what’s coming out of my mouth most of the time.” But she has a good reason for living her life day by day. “Everything that I’ve found myself in, has always been something that I couldn’t have planned and there’s so much beauty in that.”

Loving L We were so excited to catch up with Lizzy Greene from Dawn. The star chatted to us about acting, Christmas, Hi Lizzy, how did you get into acting?

Canada was incredible. Riele Downs and I did not know each other well, but when we wrapped the movie we were best of friends! My character, Barkley, was super outgoing and crazy, and I can’t wait for the world to meet her.”

“I was in a local theatre company in my city where it was extremely disciplined. At one performance, a casting agent saw me and asked me to audition for Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn. Auditioning lasted for six to eight weeks including seven live auditions.”

What do you hope to find under the Christmas Tree this year?

What is going on right now with Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn?

“A little bit of everything! New make up and skin care items, such as clay face masks and lipsticks. Clothes, Adidas Yeezy’s maybe, a certain throw from Anthropologie, and a silver bracelet.”

“Season four is airing early 2018 in Australia and my character, Dawn ventures into singing!”

You’re also a singer! Do you have any plans to release your own music?

“I hope so in the future, but I’m mainly focused on acting right now.”

Born in Portland, Oregon, USA, Soni loved to dance as a young girl but not at first. “I started dancing when I was five years old. My mum put me in dance classes and I did ballet and tap and I hated it,” she recalls. Soni wanted to stop the lessons but her mum made her finish off the year. “Strangely enough over the next few months I started enjoying it and I’ve been dancing ever since.” Through her passion for dance, Soni started landing television commercials and gigs, and by the time she was a teenager she was also taking part in competitive dance challenges. “I would say hip hop is my favourite style of dance. It is the style I dance most often and the one I feel more comfortable dancing.”

It wasn’t long before Soni made the transition from dance to acting. “I started acting at age ten when I moved to LA,” she explains. “My favourite thing about acting is being able to take on different characters and imagining the situation that your character is in. I just think it’s really cool.” In 2016 Soni scored her first major acting role when she was cast on the Netflix series, Fuller House.

On Fuller House Soni plays Ramona Gibbler. “Ramona and I have the same dance aspect,” says the star. “After I told the casting directors I was a dancer, the writers added that to my character.” Soni and Ramona also share other similarities. “We’re both normal teenagers and very close to our family,” Soni says. “We love being on our phones and social media.” As for what’s different about them, Soni says there isn’t much. “She’s very much an extrovert. Usually on December 25th people are on holidays because there’s a school holidays break, and many people see Christmas as a romantic day, kind of like Valentine’s Day. You might think the Japanese people would enjoy sushi or seafood or noodles to celebrate but guess what? One of the most popular foods on this day is KFC fried chicken!

Bolivians celebrate the Christmas festival from the 24th of December, right until the 6th of January. On Christmas Eve, families celebrate what is known as Misa del Gallo, which means “Mass of the Rooster”. They go to church at midnight and take live roosters along to mass with them, as they believe a rooster was the first animal to announce that Baby Jesus was born. How cool is that? At midnight, people also like to let off fireworks to kick off the celebrations with a bang.

hand through his wilting coppery updo and, taking Morrigan’s hand with the other, led her along the chilly streets as the sky began to lighten. ‘We’ve got great architecture,’ he continued. ‘Lovely restaurants. Reasonably reliable public transport. The climate’s great – cold in winter, not‐cold in not‐winter. Much as you’d expect. Oh, and the beaches! The beaches.’ He looked thoughtful. ‘The beaches are rubbish, actually, but you can’t have everything.’ Morrigan was struggling to keep up, not just with Jupiter’s rapid‐ fire monologue but also with his long, skinny legs, which were half‐skipping, half‐running down a street signposted humdinger avenue. ‘Sorry,’ she panted, half‐ hobbling and half‐limping from the cramp that was beginning to seize her calf. ‘Could we . . . slow . . . down a bit?’ ‘Can’t. Troll fights every Saturday, centaur roller derby Tuesday nights, zombie paintball every second Friday, unicorn jousting at Christmas and a dragonriding tournament in June.’ Morrigan’s head was spinning. She’d heard stories about a small centaur population in Far East Sang and she knew there were dragons in the wild, but they were incredibly dangerous – who would think of riding one? And trolls, zombies? Unicorns? It was hard to tell whether Jupiter was serious. They turned into a street called Caddisfly Alley, flat‐out sprinting now down the twisting, maze‐like backstreet. Morrigan thought it would never end, but at last they stopped outside a curved wooden door with a small sign reading Hotel Deucalion in faded gold lettering.

Looming in the doorway was a cat. Not just a cat. A giant cat. The biggest, scariest, toothiest, shaggiest cat she’d ever seen in her life. It sat back on its haunches and still struggled to fit in the frame. Its face was squashed and wrinkled as though it’d run into a wall, and it snuffled and fuffed just like a huge, prehistoric version of the kitchen cats at Crow Manor. If she’d been shocked by its appearance, that was nothing to how Morrigan felt when it turned its enormous grey head towards Jupiter and spoke. ‘I see you’ve brought my breakfast.’

School is compulsory in Indonesia. Students start with six years of primary school and then move on to three years of junior school. After that, students can leave to work, or continue on to senior secondary school. Most schools have uniforms that children must wear and the school day starts at 7:00am, with classes to 12:30pm. The students have a break for lunch, and then regain class from 1:00pm until 5:30pm. A long day!
