The first Aussie diva to make WWE’s main roster, Emma can’t wait to come home for the WWE Live tour in August. KRASH: How does it feel to be a WWE diva? Emma: It’s crazy. I’ve wanted to do this my whole life. I spent years training and travelling around Canada and then, when I thought I was ready, I applied for a tryout with WWE. There were thousands of people but, in the end, they only gave one contract and I was the lucky person. KRASH: What did you have to do for the try-out? Emma: Basically every aspect of this wrestling business from taking part in matches to talking on the microphone. We were in front of trainers and coaches being evaluated every day. KRASH: How did you get your first match on the roster? Emma: It came from weeks of me sitting in the crowd with a big sign saying ‘EMMAlution’. I used that to get Summer Rae’s attention and work my way over the barricades and into the ring. KRASH: We bet you can’t wait for the Oz tour? Emma: Yes I’m superexcited. This is my first time wrestling with the company in my

home country. I’m from Melbourne but my mum and my sister want to try and come to all of the shows and travel around with me. I want to say a big thankyou to all of the EMMAcrats for their support as well. You’ve been a big help in getting me to where I am today and I can’t wait to come and perform for you all. KRASH: What were you like at school? Emma: I went to Wantirna College. I did well in school. I paid attention but at the same time I was a bit of an attentionseeker. KRASH: How have WWE fans reacted to you as the first Aussie diva? Emma: It’s been a great reception with my social media following and the fans from Australia in particular. A lot of people

are saying ‘If you can do it, maybe I can do it...’ and I love the fact I can inspire people to go after their dream. KRASH: Which WWE star were you excited to meet? Emma: My all-time favourite would be Stone Cold Steve Austin and I was lucky enough to meet him backstage at Wrestlemania 30. I looked up and did a double-take when I saw him. I think he could tell by my expression I was pretty stoked to meet him even if it was just passing in the corridor. KRASH: Are the other divas competitive? Emma: No, it’s like a big family. Everyone was really welcoming to me when I came on to the main roster.

KRASH: Where is home these days? Emma: Right now home is Orlando, Florida, where the WWE performance centre is based. KRASH: What’s a typical day as a diva like? Emma: Well today we went to the performance centre and trained in the ring with the head coach and what they call the ‘elite class’, which is the top class of students there. We trained for a few hours, then I worked out in the gym as well. Tonight we have a show at the performance centre, just in-house for the students who are upand-coming. The days are full, morning till night. KRASH: Have you seen some good Emma fan signs?

Emma: Last week there was one of the best signs I’ve seen that said ‘EMMAlution > Evolution’. Six people had to hold the sign it was that big. The EMMAlution is growing strong! KRASH: What are your goals with WWE? Emma: I have so many but the first is getting to travel the world with WWE. I’m actually heading on the Europe tour soon and I get to travel to London, France and the Netherlands so it’s all happening. KRASH: What would you love to buy with your WWE earnings one day? Emma: A boat. I really like fishing and the water and getting away every now and then. KRASH: Any dating

advice for KRASH Heads? Emma: A good sense of humour is by far the most important thing. It’s funny because right now I’m paired with Santino on the main roster and he’s probably one of the funniest people I’ve ever met in my life. He makes my job a lot of fun. KRASH: If you weren’t a diva, what would you be doing? Emma: I did study hospitality management for a year. I’m passionate about food and cooking so I like to try different cuisines in the towns we travel to. Obviously I can’t wrestle forever so I’d love to have my own food truck or something funky like that.

A POWER MONTH OF POCKET-SIZED FUN

POKÉMON ART ACADEMY ■ FORMAT: 3DS intendo’s excellent Art Academy series gets a stack cuter with the release of this Pokémon edition. The series takes you to a virtual art academy and then teaches you real world art techniques – from shading to lighting, crayons to paint – that you get to practice in minigames. It makes super smart use of the touchscreen and the stylus, with a simple menu that lets you easily select the colours, styles and more that you want to use on your picture. There are 40 lessons to master and as the name suggests, you’ll be creating critters and objects from the Pokémon world. You can even take

N

photos of Pokémon to copy, or create your own. Best of all, you’ll actually become a better artist – it really works! – making this a great game to grab.

YU-GI-OH! ZEXAL WORLD DUEL CARNIVAL ■ FORMAT: 3DS CG games, or Card Collecting Games if you want to use the genre’s big name, are all the rage right now, making this the perfect time for Yu-Gi-Oh to release a new entry in its duelling series. 11 playable characters from the TV show are duelling for world supremacy and we really like how each has their own story to enjoy. Fans of the show will be happy to know a further 29 characters appear as well. Each of the playable characters also has their own unique card deck that you can take straight into battle, but strategy fans have plenty more to dig into. Over 5,500 cards are available for you to examine and customise your deck with,

which is mighty impressive. As with most CCG games, the visuals are basic, but if you like the show it’s worth checking out and a tutorial mode will teach you all you need to know.

29

LEGO NINJAGO NINDROIDS ■ FORMAT: 3DS, VITA e’re big fans of the LEGO Ninjago series! With its heavy emphasis on action and comedy, what’s not to like? The latest game in the series goes all out, as characters like Cole, Jay, Zane, Nya, Samurai X, PIXAL and more must protect (and that means use) the Technoblades in the high-tech world of New Ninjago city. What we really like is the variety in the gameplay; one

W

moment you’re walking across a tightrope, the next flying a jet fighter blasting away at enemies, then crushing a school bus while controlling a big robot before taking on multiple enemies at once. There sure is a lot to do, and the story is told with plenty of really funny jokes that makes it super easy to enjoy. Exploring the new city, with all its futuristic gizmos, is fun, too. Ninjago and get It.

RATCHET AND CLANK TRILOGY ■ FORMAT: VITA amous duo Ratchet and Clank hardly need much of an introduction. The classic 3D platform adventuring duo never release a bad game, with exploration, great graphics, enjoyable stories and bizarre weapons expected whenever we fire up one of their titles. This trilogy pack brings the first three games in the series – originally released on the PS3 over ten years ago, to the Vita. These were some of the best games that ever released on the PS2 – seriously, they’re awesome. And Sony has made sure it has reworked the games with better visuals and controls that make use of the touchscreen and rear touchpad. Still, after all these years, must-play gaming.

THE 25 COOLEST

THINGS FROM

E3 2014

Every year, the entire gaming world makes its way to a massive expo centre in Los Angeles, California, to show-off the next big blockbuster games and consoles. It’s pretty awesome. It’s like being at the best amusement park ever, with thousands of screens showing of hundreds of games that may not be out for years. As always, E3 2014 was epic, and we have picked out the 25 coolest things that you need to know from the big event.

Forza Horizon 2 Forza is our favourite racing game series. The recently released Forza Motorsport 5 on Xbox One has the best graphics, best handling, best range of cars and best multiplayer of any car game we’ve ever played. At E3, Microsoft not only announced that the iconic Nuremburg Ring circuit was being added to that game as a free download, but also announced Forza Horizon 2. Featuring over 200 cars, this is an open-world spin-off of the main game that keeps the cool graphics and handling, but gives you the freedom to explore the world. There is dynamic weather, a day/night cycle and the ability to form clubs with friends. It’s out September 30.

Fable Legends

Sony announced a feature whe re in some games , you will be able to play co-op with a friends online, even if they own the ga me and you don’t!

We’re totally in love with the Fable series. It’s an RPG set in one of the most colourful and inventive lands you will ever see, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously, with heaps of funny characters and bizarre jokes. For the next game in the series, developer Lionhead is adding an interesting twist. You can team up with three other heroes to go into dungeons on quests together, however, instead of facing the AI, you will face a fifth player. The person playing as the villain controls the world from a top-down view, deciding where enemies spawn, what traps are in your way and other tricks to try and defeat the heroes.

Dance Central Spotlight Developer Harmonix are famous for their music games – they invented Guitar Hero after all – and most recently, they have been working on innovating the genre with Dance Central. It uses Kinect to read your dancing moves. The studio has announced that in September a new game in the series will be coming to XBO as a downloadable game; it’s called Dance Central Spotlight.

Project Spark Coming to XBO and PC, Project Spark continues to look absolutely amazing. It’s like Minecraft on a million red cordials. You not only craft your own worlds, but your own games within these worlds. From RPGs to racing games, first-person shooters to board games, you can pretty much make anything come to life, to share and play with friends online. This E3, they also announced that classic game hero Conker will star in the game!

Ori and the Blind Forest We don’t know an awful lot about this XBO exclusive, other than the fact that it looks stunning. A 2D sidescrolling platformer, it appears to focus on the relationship between a father figure and a little creature in a magical forest. Something happens, and the father figure falls ill leaving the little guy to fend for himself against a massive evil threat. It looks like a truly mesmerising adventure.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris While it is best known for its huge 3D adventure games, we also fell in love with the Tomb Raider spin-off, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. At E3 this sequel was announced for PC, XBO and PS4, continuing the isometric dungeon crawling that has an equal mix of frantic combat and classic puzzle solving. Better yet, the new game will feature four-player co-op, ramping up the puzzles and combat to match. It looks amazing.

Crackdown Few of you will remember the original Crackdown when it came out on the Xbox, but it was an awesome open-world action game with cool comic-book graphics, crazy over-the-top fights and car chases, as well as a massive world you could explore as a superhero. An all new reboot to the series is now coming to XBO, with enhanced multiplayer modes including the chance to play in co-op, and the ability to destroy whole buildings!

Destiny The guys who made Halo have another amazing sci-fi shooter coming out this year on September 9 set in an all new universe. It’s called Destiny, and it is set on a future Earth long after humans have gone and colonised other worlds. However, an evil alien darkness has wiped out almost everyone, and you play a survivor in one of the last settlements fighting back. It’s truly epic and awesome stuff. Plus, Sony has announced it will be releasing a new PS4 that is white, bundled with the game, at the time of release.

WORDS BY CHRIS STEAD

LittleBigPlanet 3 We’re very excited to tell you that a new LittleBigPlanet is on the way. Yay! LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS4 brings Sackboy back for more physics-based platforming fun, although he has a bunch of new tricks. For example, now he can go into the background, adding more depth to the levels. Plus he can find power-ups, like a gun that shoots air, used to blow objects around. He also has new friends. OddSock is a dog like critter who is faster and can wall-jump. Toggle is big and strong, but can shrink really small when required. And Swoop, a bird that can fly. Yes, fly! Co-op will be so much more fun. You will also be able to create your own levels and share them with friends again.

33

Super Smash Bros. U The star of the Nintendo conference was Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. It looks as brutally fun and fast as ever, with four players able to go bonkers with a range of moves and weapons in a Nintendo themed arena. What’s particularly cool, is this time you will be able to fight with your Mii character. You can assign them to be either a brawler, a swordfighter or a gunner, then select four special moves from a batch of 12. Then you watch as they bring down heroes like Mario and Link. The 3DS version looks remarkably like its console brother, too, although it has a range of different modes to enjoy, like minigames.

No Man's Sky This amazing looking indie game from the people who made Joe Danger blew our mind at E3. It’s all about exploring a randomly generated universe in a little space-ship with hundreds of other human players. You will battle it out in space against other fleets, then fly right down to a planet’s surface to explore its strange creations and formations. Because everything is randomly created, what you discover will be different from everyone else. How cool is that?

Amiibo Nintendo has revealed it is creating a range of toy characters based on its many famous and loved games. Called Amiibo, these figurines can be brought into game worlds by placing them onto the Wii U controller. You can then save the data from their experiences and the characters will level-up with their own unique abilities. Pretty cool! Better yet they won’t just work in some Nintendo games like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8, but also other titles like Skylanders and Disney Infinity. Now that is awesome!

36

FIFA 15 Yet again EA is taking the brilliant FIFA series another step forward. A range of new animations on the ball, new ball physics, crowds that are different and accurate to each stadium and more realistic looking players. We also love how you can leave marks on the ground doing tackles, and be more physical in man-on-man contests. The players will also remember past events from a game, so will react differently depending on what has happened.

Yoshi's Woolly World Fresh from an awesome 3DS adventure, Yoshi is also coming to the Wii U, and it is following the same gameplay idea from awesome Wii game Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Yoshi, and the entire 2D sidescrolling world, is made of yarn which can be unravelled and re-knitted into objects. Yoshi can transform into many things, and use his ability to hover and whip out his tongue to discover heaps of secret areas and defeat enemies. You can even play in co-op, using your tongue to eat and then spit your friend up into other areas or enemies. It’s super bright and colourful: we totally love it.

WORDS BY CHRIS STEAD

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Remember in the awesome Wii U game Super Mario 3D World there were these little minigames levels where you controlled the mushroom-headed Toad? He walked in and around rotatable little levels, and you had to solve the puzzle of how to get from one side to the other without falling into a trap or an enemy? Well Nintendo is taking that concept and turning it into a full, super inventive game all on its own. It’s coming to the Wii U and looks like great fun.

37

The Legend of Zelda Easily one of the most amazing reveals from E3 was the new Legend of Zelda game that is being made for the Wii U. Not only is it fully HD and looking stunning, but for the first time ever, it will unfold in a truly open-world. Link can jump on his horse and ride to anywhere he can see, approaching areas, puzzles and quests from any direction, and however you like. It’s going for the beautiful cel-shaded look of the Wind Waker series, too.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Continuing with the trend of releasing two variations of each Pokémon game, this Christmas the 3DS will be getting a big new entry in the beloved series. While it will stick close to the critter collecting and battling roots, the E3 reveal showed off plenty of 3D gameplay as your Trainer explored the world. From riding bikes, travelling through high-tech computer-like levels and walking through the tree-tops, it appears to have lots of variety. The Pokémon look particularly well-animating during combat, too.

Hyrule Warriors This huge deviation from the Legend of Zelda series puts Link (and friends) in command of an army in huge battles. The E3 footage shows the legendary hero going up against hundreds of enemy soldiers at once, linking together combos of big moves. As well as looking after yourself, you will need to keep an eye on your forces and move between different skirmishes on the battlefield to lend a hand when required. Mixing things up from the Dynasty Warriors series on which it is based, huge bosses will appear in the battle and will require specific strategies, plus you can play in co-op.

Splatoon

CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

WO WORDS ORDS BY C CHRIS HRIS STEAD ST STEA AD

It’s not every day that Nintendo announce a new game series, but we got one at E3. Splatoon is an online multiplayer paintball-like game for eight people. It’s a team game, with four vs. four “combat.” It’s not really combat as you play with paint, trying to cover as much of the map as possible in your team’s colour and popping enemies in the process. You can transform between human and squid forms, with the latter allowing you to swim quickly through areas covered in your colour. In human form, you get slowed down by other team’s colours, adding to the strategy. The minimap also shows where people are spraying ink and you can even jump right to their location if you want to stop them taking over that bit of the map. Looks crazily over-the-top and fun.

38

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse A new Kirby game has been announced for the 3DS and this one is a bit faster and more actionorientated than the most recent releases in the series. Making good use of the touchscreen, you need to draw rainbow coloured lines on which the round Kirby can roll in and across to make it through the levels. Almost like a Sonic game, maintaining momentum is critical, which is a fresh approach to the series we expect will really test your reflexes. As usual Kirby will be able to change into lots of different shapes on his travels, keeping the gameplay varied and fun.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham You always know what you are going to get with a new Lego game… or do you? If you thought the third instalment in the Lego Batman series would be predictable, then at E3 we discovered we were wrong. Batman and the other DC Comics superheros – including Superman – find themselves well beyond Gotham and in space, hanging out and having fun before an evil voice lures them into a new adventure. The first two games had cool original stories, too, so we’re looking forward to seeing what’s in store for our heroes.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric WORDS BY CHRIS STEAD

With a new TV show of the same name on the way, Sonic Boom is going all out on story. The E3 reveal featured a new enemy that has been buried deep within the planet for 1,000 years and has resurfaced to take down Sonic. As a result, Sonic forms a super team with three of his good friends – including Tails – allowing for co-op gameplay. It appears that the game will feature lots of super-fast fully 3D action as you zip along paths that spiral into the distance, although some sections do have more classic platforming fun. The story won’t stop at this Wii U game either, continuing on the 3DS game Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and the TV show.

Mario Maker

39

Ok, so we didn’t see this one coming, and boy is it awesome.Thank to games like Minecraft, building your own worlds has become all the rage in modern gaming, so old-school Mario is getting in on the act. Mario Maker is a world builder where you can use all the items from the classic retro and modern Mario Bros. games to construct our own 2D scrolling levels. Seriously! From pipes, to power-ups, to a flag pole at the end you need to jump up, you will control (and then share) it all.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 We got to see some of the new worlds in this exciting sequel’s E3 showing and the developer has really gone all out to add more variation to the gameplay and busier, more alive worlds to enjoy. In fact, it feels as diverse and inventive as Super Mario 3D World, with 2D sections, 3D exploration, perspective twists, racing and even hoverboards. New characters will be joining the action, too. There are some pretty cool power-ups additions, too, including one that turns Pac into a giant!

WHAT’S WHAT’S

Lots of quirky games this month, from anime to worms and strange planets

WORMS BATTLEGROUNDS

WORDS BY CHRIS STEAD

PS4, XBO

In 1995, a little UK developer called Team 17 released a game called Worms, and it was awesome. Despite its cute characters, silly weapons – like exploding sheep and banana bombs – and bright, colourful visuals, Worms was a hardcore war game. When the game started, your team of four worms was randomly placed on a randomly generated 2D island alongside the teams of the other players in the game. These 16 worms would then do whatever was required to be the last worm standing, blowing the island into bits as they unleashed all kinds of crazy weapons on the other little worms. Not only did it require a lot of strategy and plenty of skill, there was so much luck involved and the fate of the poor old worms so hilarious, you’d spend hours laughing with your friends and siblings. There’s just something about watching a small little helpless worm yell out “oh o” before a stick of dynamite sends

GAMESTA HEAT

them flying off the map that can’t be beaten. It’s also just awesome watching your friend plot an elaborate plan to kill you by ninja roping across gaps and unleashing a fire punch, only to have it not work. All these years later, Team 17 is still releasing Worms games and the latest instalment is out now on nextgen consoles. Worms Battlegrounds retains all of the greatness listed above. Unlike some previous Worms spin-offs that tried to do silly things like go 3D, this remains a 2D game with randomly generated maps. Your goal is still to kill the little dudes in the most hilariously spectacular fashion, too. However, if you have played a previous Worms game before, you’re sure to appreciate the new level themes and some of crazy new weapons. Like the mole, which digs down through the land

and then explodes. There’s also new goodies to pick up in crates that drop into the world randomly… if you can risk the time it takes to go get them. You can play the game solo, and while the enemy AI is alright in this mode and there is even a crazy story with some unique levels to enjoy, really you want to play this game with your friends. If you have friends who like the idea of watching cute worms get obliterated, then jump at this game now.

DID YOU KNOW? Developer Team 17 just announced it is working on a new non-Worms game called Flockers

ONE PIECE UNLIMITED WORLD RED PS3, 3DS, VITA

Whether you are familiar with the One Piece anime series or not, there are two things about this game that are easy for anyone to like. There is the bright and colourful graphics which bring the cool world and characters to life. Then there is the awesomely over-the-top combat as you

GAMESTA HEAT

brawl your way through each environment linking together combos of screen-filling moves.

Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Chopper are playable with up to three friends in the main Adventure Mode and the story is suitably over-the-top and fun. If you’ve played previous games in the series, you’ll also like the tweaks to the combat system – now you have to fill your special meter before you can unleash your biggest moves, which adds more challenge, while new counter and block moves give the game more tactical options. Still, this is all about button bashing and aims to be fun rather than challenging.

GAMESTA VERDICT: OVER-THE-TOP

DYNASTY WARRIORS GUNDAM REBORN

PS3

Unlike the other titles in the Dynasty Warriors series, which focus on medieval Japanese warriors, Gundam Reborn is based on the Gundam anime series. That means Mechs – robot-like vehicles that you get into and fight with. Mechs add a number of changes to the gameplay, such as greater

DID YOU KNOW? If you like big robots, you may also want to check Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which came out last month.

mobility due to their ability to dash and either fly, or at least jump in mid-air. They also have plenty of ranged attack options, allowing you to deal damage at a distance. So what has this got to do with Dynasty Warriors then? Well it follows the same mix of hack ‘n’ slash gameplay as you try to lead your forces across big maps, capturing important strategic points until you’ve won the battle and

can push the story forward. And don’t worry, the Mechs are still equipped for plenty of fun melee combat against stacks of bad dudes at once. If you want to relive some of the epic battles from the Gundam anime series, you’ll have loads of fun.

his odd platforming game takes on the unique idea of presenting its visuals and sound effects like it’s an old-school original Game Boy. However, the gameplay is quite modern, with large levels to explore, lots of fun minigames and even animals to ride as you explore the Old West seeking bandits to kill and treasures to find.

T

Battleheart Legacy his hardcore RPG is awesome because it’s not that hardcore. Despite having the classic quests and levelling-up you expect from the genre, it doesn’t get bogged down in a crazy story or lots of statistic comparisons. Instead you’re free to adventure across the land, fulfilling goals and enjoying the fun combat.

Crazy enemies and unit types join lots of cartoonish blood and guts as you plot a way of defending your turf from invading forces. The game even mixes in some RTS and RPG elements, ensuring it is more than just a funny name.

T

his visually stunning sports game turns your finger into a ping pong bat and allows you to take full control as you swipe at the ball and smack it over the net. While the SFX and visuals are realistic, the game features plenty of fun minigames that help you build up your skills before you get into the serious fun of being a champion.

You need to start off building a bench and then collecting resources so you can build tools to collect more advanced resources. You can then build a furnace and so on. A good tip is to make sure you use iron when mining resources or you may end up with puffs of dirt instead of actual blocks. And plan ahead so you know how to get to your diamond pick as soon as possible, which is way better for mining. Whenever possible, store excess coal as it is the most important resource and be sure to cook all food so it has greater healing power.

CRUISE CONTROL

GAME THEFT A From controller to concept to cruiser

T

hey may not be twins, but the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Evolution Gran Turismo and Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo are similar in many ways. They both have ridiculously long names, they are both low-riding hatches with huge wings, and they’ll both be downloadable and playable in the upcoming Gran Turismo 6! The Mitsubishi is a plug-in hybrid based on the concept from last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Using their experience from the World Dakar

Rally, Mitsubishi’s Advanced Vehicle Research and Development Group designed the vehicle the same way they would develop a genuine racing car. Power is forced to all four wheels through an 8 speed dual clutch automatic transmission, via a cool Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics control system which gives it Hulk-like grip! With a narly rear wing and monstrous 20-inch wheels, the body is made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic to keep the weight down to the road, while the front grille looks like an Olympic

CRUISE CONTROL

T AUTOS sprinter ready to take off at the start line! The XR-PHEV comes out just days after the other cruiser with similar styling was unveiled by Volkswagen. The Volkswagen is a twin-turbocharged, all-wheel drive convertible – pretty much the most extreme vehicle to slap on a GTI badge. The traffic stopper here is, of course, the engine. It’s a 3.0 litre, twin-turbo V6 belting down a hectic 500 horsepower, complete with 7 speed gearbox and VW’s ‘4Motion’ all-wheel-drive system. Because it only has a weight of 1420kg to move, the Roadster is capable of 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and top out at 308km/h! All drivers better wear a helmet though, because (you may notice) there is absolutely no roof come rain or rollover! The super-sized rear wing is there to create lots of down force, while the upwardswiveling doors are there to look cool! But when they will be produced to the public is anybody’s guess at this stage, so until they hit the streets - fire up your Playstation or Xbox today!

JEREMY SHADA toon Network’s Jeremy Shada voices Finn in Car only one hit Adventure Time, but that’s young star. passion for this multi-talented KRASH: Do you record Finn’s voice on your own, or with other actors?

REMY NAME: JE A D SHA AGE: 17 ION: OCCUPAT SICIAN U ACTOR/M KRASH: How did you get the job voicing Finn on Adventure Time? JEREMY: My older brother Zack voiced Finn for the pilot, so my voice already sounded a bunch like his and I tweaked it a little more to make is sound even closer.

JEREMY: Most of the time we have the whole cast in the studio recording together, which is really great because you get much better chemistry between the actors. You get to really play off each other and it brings out the best in everyone. KRASH: You also worked on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Is voice acting in a movie different to TV? JEREMY: Usually for animated movies, you’re going to be recording your part

separately y It can be a little lit ittle t separately. more difficult because you don’t know much about the other characters, or even how their voices sound. KRASH: So how do you develop the voice for a new character? JEREMY: You need to look at a whole range of things depending on the character. First you want to think about their age and take a look at the artwork. They might be a bit nerdier, so you might make their voice more nasal or high-pitched. Or if the character is based on an animal, for example, you might need to think about how that animal would sound in nature. KRASH: Then is it a matter of experimenting with different voices? JEREMY: Exactly. You want to mess around with it and try a few different things. You take your time doing it and figuring out what you think works the best. Then at the

end of the day, it’s really up to the creative team to say ‘oh, that’s what we’re looking for’. KRASH: What are some of your career highlights? JEREMY: Most of the experiences I’ve had have been really great, especially on Adventure Time. There have been a lot of great guest stars that I’ve be lucky to work with. I’ve worked with Mark Hamill (from Star Wars), Neil Patrick Harris, and Matthew Broderick. Oh, and I got to play Robin in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which was a dream come true. KRASH: You’ve working with some pretty huge stars. Did you notice any qualities they share? JEREMY: A lot of them are just very, very talented people. They’re either fans of the show themselves or have kids who are fans of the show, so they come to us and want to do it. KRASH: We also hear you’re an accomplished musician? JEREMY: I’ve been singing for a long time and playing bass for a while to. I’m starting up a band with a few friends – kind of like alternative rock. KRASH: Cool. Do you notice

similarities between music and acting? JEREMY: There are a lot of similarities between the two. It’s good to be able to do both because there’s a lot of emotion and creativity in it. When you’re singing there’s attitude to it and your singing voice is probably going to be a little bit different to your normal voice. And it’s helpful as an actor if you can sing, because a lot of jobs require that. Music and acting really go hand-in hand. KRASH: Any advice for the young acting or music hopefuls out there? JEREMY: First, you want to find what you’re good at and what is your ultimate passion. That’s a good starting point. If you’re into acting, get involved with a school play or your local theatre, or try to do some local radio commercials to practice your voice acting. With music, I find it’s helpful to think about who your musical inspiration is and see how they do it and where you might fit in as you develop a style.

FREAK OUT

WILD RIDES

are taking shape in some Futuristic plans for transport some crazy concepts pretty freaky forms. Here are drawing board. we’d love to see make it off the

THE HYP HYPERLOOP Y R OO O JETPACK POWER TH Eat your heart out Astro Boy, New Zealand company Martin Aircraft hopes to release its first commercial jetpack in 2016. The prototype has a V4 200 horsepower engine that drives two ducted fans and can travel at up to 74km/h. Cheaper than helicopters, they come with a parachute and roll cage for safety. Just the thing for when your mum’s stuck in traffic on your way to school!

SHWEEB

Picture a long tube on an aircushioned track and inside that tube are pods which are transported along faster than the speed of sound thanks to solar power. Inside those pods are passengers, and even their cars, all whisking their way to their destination. Transport tycoon Elon Musk has pictured all of this and more and has put the idea out there for engineers to improve upon. Yes, it would cost a crazy amount of money but you gotta love a transport system that feels more like a roller coaster than a train.

You’ve heard of a monorail, right? Well now take it one step further and imagine a human-powered monorail and you have the Shweeb. This freaky approach to transport uses bicycle pods suspended from tracks to create a clever way of getting from A to B. They’re already in use at the Agroventures adventure park in New Zealand where you can reach speeds of up to 45km/h under your own steam. And it’s just the beginning because Google has invested more than a million in Shweeb and will soon be announcing the planned location of the first one built for public use.

FREAK OUT

SPACE TRAIN Plans are underway to use ‘space trains’ to launch passengers into orbit. One called the Startram would use a superconducting, magnetically levitating train capsule in a vacuum tube. The difference here is that the final 20km of the track would point upwards, launching the carriage into low earth orbit!

FLYING CAR

It’s still in development but... a company called Terrafugia reckons they’ve got a hit on their hands with the TF-X - a hybrid electric flying car. It promises fly-by-wire vertical take-off and landing and if the Transition model (which converts from auto mode to plane mode in under a minute) is anything to go by we’re excited.

53

HYPER BIKE Inventor Curtis DeForest says riding his Hyper Bike is like ‘swimming on dry land’. It has no seat - the rider stands upright and pedals with their arms (as well as their feet) for added power. Rumour has it NASA is interested in the Hyper Bike because its balance of weight would make it great in a low-gravity environments. Just as well since it’s too wide for bike lanes.

SPACE ELEVATOR Next time you’re in a lift, consider what it’d be like to press ‘Mars’ or ‘The Moon’ instead of ‘Level 1’ or ‘Level 2’. The concept is scary - a powerful cable that connects the Earth to a counterweight in orbit. A ‘climber’ then goes up or down the cable with people and gear. Just quietly, we’re happy this one is still just a theory. The glass-bottomed elevator that goes up the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France is enough excitement for us.

NO DRIVER

Google’s got the world talking with its ‘Google Chauffeur’ technology that allows a car to generate a 3D map of its environment and use it to navigate. The Google project team has equipped a test group of at least 10 cars, including a Toyota Prius, Audi TT and Lexus RX450h with the technology and in April announced they’ve clocked up 1.1 million accident-free kilometres in them. Their latest prototye has no steering wheel, pedal or brakes. Yikes.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

are one crazy bunch! Gee KRASH Headz. You REAL stories! Check out these 100%

SHAME OF THE MONTH One day in assembly I was getting an award. I had new shoes on and when they called my name to get the award I walked up and as I stepped up the first step I forgot to step on the second step and tripped up the third. Everyone burst into laughter for a couple of minutes. I couldn’t wait to get off the stage. Joel, Age 6, NSW SORRY KRASH-HEADS. SHAMES UNDER 100 WORDS LONG WILL RARELY BE PUBLISHED. WE WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING!

ENTER ONLINE You can also enter the Shame Shack online. Get onto the web and go to www.krash.com.au and go to the Shame Shack box. Don’t forget your age, name and address!

I was walking on the curb outside Kmart with four shopping bags in my hand. As I was crossing the road I saw this shiny thing on the road. I bent down and tripped over a Sprite can and fell over, with the shopping bags falling over too. Suddenly this ute mysteriously came out of nowhere and started beeping at me. I stumbled over to the other side after nearly getting run over by that ute, then I went home empty-handed, so I started crying in my bedroom. Jarrod, Age 10, QLD One day at school, I was on my teacher’s shoulders putting up a poster and I farted on my teacher’s head. The whole class was laughing, but my teacher stood there like a red tomato! Cameron, QLD I received a Green Machine for Christmas and couldn’t wait to show everyone how good I was on it, skids and all. I clocked up some hours practicing before my birthday and when it came I had all my relatives over and asked them if they wanted to come out back and watch. Everyone came, so I started down the drive way. The next thing I remember was mum looking over me and being upside down with my head cracked open. I felt like a real fool! Jake, SA
