CATARACT SURGERY Cataract surgery is simple: the eye’s natural, clouded lens is replaced with a small artificial lens, called an intraocular lens (IOL). These lenses restore clarity and your natural ability to see, without the cloudiness of cataracts. The procedure typically takes no longer than half an hour and is one of the safest, most commonlyperformed procedures in the U.S. Patients are often astonished by the stunning return of clear vision.

GREATER FREEDOM FROM GLASSES
Imagine being able to potentially leave your glasses behind forever. If you want less dependence on glasses and contacts after cataract surgery, we offer several options that can give you more visual freedom. Our surgeons are qualified to perform a procedure called continuous vision, which corrects one eye for distance and the other for near vision. In addition, our surgeons can also implant a new generation of specialty lenses, which are designed to provide vision at all distances, dramatically reducing or eliminating your need for glasses. YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. WE HAVE ANSWERS. We understand that cataract surgery is a big decision, and we want to make sure you are fully informed. Below are some of the most common questions we receive about cataracts and cataract surgery. DOES CATARACT SURGERY HURT? Thanks to numbing drops and medications to help you relax, this procedure involves minimal discomfort. You may feel slight pressure during the procedure, but no sharp pain. HOW LONG UNTIL I CAN RETURN TO NORMAL ACTIVITIES? Every eye is different and recovery times vary from patient to patient, but you and your surgeon will discuss the best treatment plan to get you back to normal as quickly as possible. Generally, most patients can resume normal basic activities like reading and watching TV the next day, and return to work within days after surgery. We tell our patients that they can normally return to full activity one week after surgery. IS CATARACT SURGERY COVERED BY INSURANCE OR MEDICARE? Standard cataract surgery is typically covered by insurance or Medicare. There have been recent advancements in cataract surgery, such as specialty lenses, refractive procedures that can be performed at the same time as your cataract surgery and continuous vision. Each of these require additional testing and an out-of-pocket cost. Financing is available for these additional costs and your surgical coordinator will discuss your options in detail.
