Interactions with R.E. Hartanto A Series of Scenarios, Schemes and Stories
TAKE 1
R.E. Hartanto Scenes and notes for Post-North-Korea Nuclear Test, 2009 Photo session for this series has been executed five times during a two-years period, involving 18 crews, 53 models and resulting in more than 2000 pictures.
I found the expression that I wanted in the second photo session when I saw my favourite model: Ariani Darmawan. I conducted the next photo sessions in accordance to her expression.
I have three steps of instructions during the photo session. One: eyes to the camera. Two: take a deep breath so that the chest is expanded and shoulders are lifted. Three: open eyes and mouth as wide as possible and shout! So in almost all the photo session, we keep shouting. It hurts my throat after several hours
My photo team grew solid in time. I’m happy to see everyone work passionately with their heart. They helped each other despite their job description and I feel this project is somewhat memorable. Because it’s methodical, my team got more skillful and worked way faster for similar or even higher quality. It’s almost like they can read my mind.
To me, this photo session is a particular artistic realm. I never knew what will happen working with a lot of people like this, so improvisation has to be as strong as the planning itself. I’m lucky to be able to work like this and I think I can continue many years to come. I always get excited and enjoy this artistic process.
