phrase like “design is in the detail” is often thrown around in the industry, but only truly experienced in a home like this. From the architecture to the A interiors, this property has been planned with great detail and finesse. Contemporary facades paired with bold, modern interiors make this home refreshing in aesthetic, yet inviting in its feel.
The owners said the large established trees were a great attraction as was the large plot with plenty of space for the children to run and play. >
ABOVE: Briefed by the home owner and architect to aid in creating a spacious and airy home, Inso Architectural Solutions designed and manufactured glass solutions as large as possible, while maintaining the ease of use to its product. Here the company also supplied the custom-made shutters to achieve a simple and clean aesthetic.
OPPOSITE PAGE, TOP: Texture and colour are what the home owners highlighted in their brief to kitchen design and manufacturing company The Kitchen Studio. These directives translated into a space that not only excites the senses, but is also inspiring for the family. REHAU crystal white in crystal gloss was selected for the cabinetry, and beautifully accented with rustic walnut veneer in the artisan Oslo stain and paired with 20mm Dekton Aura 15 countertops. From textural elements on the walls to the bold colours used on various surfaces in the home, functionality remains key.

Regarding the brief to the architect, they say: “We wanted our home to be a modern space, but very warm and welcoming with wooden flooring, wooden cladding, and warm textured detailing. We also wanted large windows and doors, lots of natural light to stream in and open-plan living spaces that flow easily from the inside out.”
The result is a beautiful five-bedroom family home that can entertain loved ones effortlessly, which is what the owners love. >
BELOW: Seeking the ideal study and home office, the owners commissioned The Kitchen Studio to design and manufacture the necessary cabinetry. Here the firm used grey leather and beam oak veneer for the cabinetry doors and 32mm beam oak for the worktops. The result is a warm and inviting space that is a visual delight. The design plays with texture, yet makes a sophisticated and bold statement. The Kitchen Studio is based in Cape Town, Durban and Joburg.

“The open-plan living areas are where we spend most of our time with our family and friends. The design is conducive to having a large number of people, while still feeling warm and intimate if we only have a few people around. We love hosting large family and social gatherings, and want our guests to be comfortable.”
For the couple, the interiors needed to reflect their personalities, while creating a homely environment. Working with an interior design firm to achieve this, they went for a contemporary aesthetic, featuring beautifully crafted furniture, bold wallpaper, striking art, and varying colours and texture.
“We love colour and wanted punches of blues, some red, and then the neutrals to offset the colours chosen for the open-plan living areas. The bedrooms were left up to our interior designer, Cheryl Herweg, to design and curate.” Filled with character, this home offers its family so much to savour.

A TASTE of colour
THE CAPE ART COMPANY GIVES US A TASTE OF WHAT’S TRENDING FOR THE SEASON
1. COLOUR COMBOS. Pairing colours is where it’s at. Warm greys paired with tan camels, terracottas and brown blacks. The combination of black on tan or tan on black is a smart choice. Keep an eye out for ochres and colours of cracked earth. The key is seeing colours in combination. Isolated colours are often not what we are looking for. What’s more important is how we combine the colours.
2. MAXIMALISM. Forget minimalism and its constraints. Moving towards maximalism will give you that creative edge. The Cape Art Company’s curated wall art will add a stylish flair to your creativity. A blend of historical designs and colour, layers and textures and mixed art work allows the maximalist to create an interior that not only blends with contemporary décor, but creates an interior that is vastly unique. Maximalism allows you to free your imagination. The key here is to connect the dots and pay close attention to design elements such as repetition and shape to build your desired design scheme.
3. GROUNDED NEUTRALS. Earthy and honest neutrals are currently trending. Choose colour palettes of earthy browns, tans, warm greys and greens – and especially terracotta. Terracotta is making a comeback and isn’t just limited to pots. Pair colours such as Resene Entourage and Resene Desperado with classic timber stains such as Resene Pitch Black and Resene Natural.
