T

he National FFA Organization is an American youth organization known as a Career and Technical Student Organization, based on middle and high school classes that promote and support agricultural education. The organization was founded in 1928 as National FFA Organization, but in 1988 the name was changed to the National FFA Organization, now commonly referred to as simply FFA, to recognize that the organization is for those with diverse interests in the food, fiber and natural resource industries, encompassing science, business and technology in addition to production agriculture. Today FFA is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States. MOTTO Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. THE FFA CREED I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds : achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.

FFA EMBLEM The cross section of the ear of corn provides the foundation of the emblem, just as corn has historically served as the foundation crop of American agriculture. It is also a symbol of unity, as corn is grown in every state of the nation. The rising sun signifies progress and holds a promise that tomorrow will bring a new day glowing with opportunity. The plow signifies labor and tillage of the soil, the backbone of agriculture and the historic foundation of our country’s strength. The eagle is a national symbol which serves as a reminder of our freedom and ability to explore new horizons for the future of agriculture. The owl, long recognized for its wisdom, symbolizes the knowledge required to be successful in the industry of agriculture. The words “Agricultural Education” and “FFA” are emblazoned in the center to signify the combination of learning and leadership necessary for progressive agriculture.

Who I Am and Want To Be

James Eaton - Environmental Science - Some of my best memories in the FFA have been the moments that I have been together with my chapter. We have taken planning trips together, but the time when my love for my chapter really stuck for me was our annual teacher luncheon last year. That was back when I was still a Junior, and we still had our staple group of seniors around. There is just something about this group of people coming together to plan out dishes and then stand around in our jackets while our teachers eat. I think the appreciation part of that is pretty important, but that memory just sticks out in my mind.

Izzy Dellinger - Law Enforcement Officer - I have been in FFA for five years. My favorite memory is from my eighth grade year. I went to Indianapolis, Indiana for the National FFA Convention and Expo. All the special guest speakers who told a story about their life were really inspiring and heartwarming. I also loved bonding with my friends who went with me.

Madison Tusing - Physical Therapist - I enjoyed being a guide for fourth graders on the farm for Food For America. They were very enthusiastic about animals and farm equipment.

Garrett Custer Communications - My favorite part has been visiting a dairy farm and giving tours to fourth graders from Ashby-Lee.

Sarah Eaton - Agricultural Scientist - Career Development

SJ FFA Officers President: Darcey Bennett Vice-Presidents: James Eaton, Lindsay Zirkle, Emily Rexrode Secretaries: Faith Dellinger, Mindi Freed Treasurers: Rhonnie Miller, Sarah Eaton

Events (CDE’s) have had a big impact on me and my education. Learning new things about agriculture can help me as I search for my career. Succeeding at the state level Crops contest helped me see that topics I might have once considered boring can actually be fun and beneficial. I hope that CDE’s will continue to strengthen my love for learning and help me in whatever I choose to pursue in the future. Darcey Bennett - Animal Science or Law Enforcement The most meaningful event in my agriculture career is showing other students how to drive a tractor. When the Tractor Driving CDE comes around, we get to choose who is competing for our chapter. I have done the contest multiple times, so I get to help others learn the course and be better backers. James Zirkle - Architect or Engineer - Last year I participated in the FFA/4H Poultry Judging Contest and it positively affected me. Although I didn’t place that well, I increased my skills in leadership, communication and timemanagement. These are a few skills and characteristics that will help me in my future career.

Mindi Freed - Dairy Inspector - My most memorable FFA experience has been helping the North Fork FFA Chapter with various competitions and classes. I love teaching them about agriculture and seeing the impact it has on their lives. Faith Dellinger - Agriculture Teacher - I still remember the first time I attended National Convention and the moment I saw the blue corduroy jackets all together - I knew I was home. Home was in the blue jacket, and from that point on, my love for this organization only grew. Looking throughout the crowd, seeing everyone united together, is a picture I’ll never forget.

Rhonnie Miller - Large-scale Cattle Producer - Food For America has made a big impact on my life, seeing how excited kids get when we are teaching them where their food comes from, and how a farm runs on a day-to-day basis. It has also taught me how thankful I am to have had the
