he National FFA Organization is an American youth organization known as a Career and Technical Student Organization, based on middle and high school classes that promote and support agricultural education. The organization was founded in 1928 as Future Farmers of America, but in 1988 the name was changed to the National FFA Organization, now commonly referred to as simply FFA, to recognize that the organization is for those with diverse interests in the food, fiber and natural resource industries, encompassing science, business and technology in addition to production agriculture. Today FFA is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States. MOTTO Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. Joe Evans, Courtney Walls, Morgan Walls, and Victoria Miller competed in the National Poultry Contest placing 13th in the nation! Morgan and Victoria received gold and Joe and Courtney received silver. Along with 9 members receiving their American Degree! Congratulations!!
Every year the Horticulture classes put on Greenhouse Tours for the local elementary students to come through the greenhouse and work through multiple workshops. Learning everything from the parts of the plant to how they grow, types of plants, and even enjoying nutritious snacks while working with FFA members.
Farm on the Lawn The Support Group Committee worked with our North Frederick FFA Supporters Group to raise money for the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center and senior scholarships. The chapter worked to organize the bingo games as the supporter’s group provided the food for sale.
1st Annual Farm on the Lawn event was a major hit on April 13, 2013 with 85 third graders from Apple Pie Ridge Elementary. The Ag Awareness committee put this event on providing students with the chance to pet and learn about 8 different livestock animals along with receiving a cinch bag to put all their goodies in from each station along with lunch and cupcakes. This year we look forward to expanding to multiple elementary schools.
