SOCIAL INFLUENCES This aspect of the exhibition showcases designers that have have played a role in shaping the progression of change, in breaking the gender specific stereotypes within fashion. Both positive and negative advertisements created by brands have helped usher in change. Each area of the designers have a section in the exhibition where their stories are explained.
calvin klein
dolce & gabanna
Shunned for their 2010 Calvin Klein Jeans ad that was later on banned in Australia.
Also had an advertisement banned in 2007, after portraying gang rape. Brought about a great change in what was deemed ‘acceptable’ advertising.

ACNE STUDIOS
MOSCHINO
Acne Studios founder showcased his 11 year old soon as the face of their womenswear collection.
Brand collaborated with Barbie in 2015 - showcasing a boy with the doll, in what is deemed to society as a female brand.

ECONOMY In this aspect of the exhibition, Primark & American Apparel are exploited for their profit schemes - as opposed to ethically making choices to keep a consistent fashion economy.

The brand was exploited for outsourcing manufacturing processes to Indian children at work camps.
Brands own staff called for a boycott - due to decrease in wages. The brand also sourced other cheaper sweatshops to continue manufacturing process.

POLITICAL FASHION In the political area of the exhibition, Vivienne Westwood and her crucial role in the acceptance of Punk is explained, during a period of economic depression and socio-political oppression, in England during the 1970’s.
