the studio in which this project was produced sought to look at the human foot print on the world via the products created, be it waste or excess products produced. based on these ojects the goal was to create a catalog similar to the world catalog diagramming the overall ripple effects and enviosining a new world where these objects are reused. This project looked at data useage as the object under investigation. starting off with the mapped section of manhattan which analyzed data collected from instagram,periscope, and snapchat. the data collected was based on geo tags and allowed for the plotting of most captured pieces of of the city. it brought to light the question of how does social media change how we percieve architecture. from there data had to be taken from the two dimesnional realm in to the three dimensional realm. the interactive capabilites of games like pokemon go! with the physcial world made it a fun choice to act as bridgine medium between the 2d and the 3d. as players interact with the game different quests would come up that would require them to build folleys about of what is commonly considered trash for the pokemon. these activites would reward the player with rare pokemons, gems, and power ups. in order to experience the folley in its full state one havs to physically be in the location as well as on their phone.

In order to merge the virtual with the physical a reworking of pokemon go needed to occur. first was developing a physcial compenent to the game- one that would force players to interaction within real world games to move throughout the game. the game chart below focuses on the three teams within the pokemon realm and the task specific to each team. The interaction of different teams would allow none team memebers on a group to win the award of that group. So for example someone in valor would pick up trash and say if someone in team mystic assisted in this they would both recieve power ups. These smaller task would culminate to the equivalent of a boss level in a game like zelda except the ‘boss’ here would be a large folley ( examples shown to the left). These folleys serve as home bases for players and pokemons alike.


The game also involves a distance component that can also help players reach a ‘boss’ board. Thanks to the chart by poketricks.de the current distances to aquire pokemon still applies. The only difference is that in order to complete these small trials architectural posts on social media awards points based off of each location and project captured. A point system defines whether or not a person has moved on to a next challenge.

As inspiration for the design tow approaches were taken first was a case study and the second was a sculptural analysis. The two art residencies explored was the NES artist residency and AARK Archipelago Residency. These two residencies were chosen due the context in which they were built. Its a rural enviornment- or small town much like the context of OMI. The second study was the sculpture S2P2P6 The overall formality of the residency is based off of the formal principles used in the creation of S2P2P6 which is layers on top of each other creating a very organic structure. This residency sought use the hill in which the site is placed to be the residency itself. It embodies OMI notion that nature and the artist should be one, and this relationship will help foster a better work envionrment.

SERVICE LEARNING IS ABOUT FOCUSING ON THE NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY AND IMPROVING UPON ASPECTS OF THIS COMMUNITY TO HELP INHABITANTS BETTER ENJOY THEIR HOME. THIS STUDIO PRIMARLY BROKEN INTO TWO PARTS, THE SERVICE LEARNING DAY WHICH FOCUSED ON PRESENTING DESIGN PROPOSAL TO THE COMMUNITY AND ALLOWING THE INHABITANTS TO TAKE AN INTERACTION PART OF THE IMPROVEMENT OF THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. THE SECOND PART IS THE PHYSICAL CREATION OF MANY OF THESE PROPOSALS. FOR THE DURATION OF THIS STUDY ABROAD OUR CLASS TOOK PART IN PHASE ONE OF THIS STUDIO. OUR COMMUNITY INTERACTION DAY PROPOSAL REVOLVED AROUND ON OF THE MAIN PROBLEMS THE COMMUNITY WAS FACING LACCK OF OUT DOOR COMMUNAL SPACE. THE IDEA WAS TO CREATE A SPACE THAT COULD CATER TO NOT ONLY THE TWO LEGGED INHABITATANTS BUT ALSO THE FOUR LEGGED ONES AS WELL.

THE SITE POSSESSED A SECRET GEM NOT MANY RESIDENTS KNEW ABOUT ASIDE FROM THE MAIN CHEDGU COMMUNITY GARDEN WHICH WAS THE LARGEST COMMUNAL GREEN SPACE IN THE AREA. BUT WITHIN THE SITE BOUNDARY THERE ARE THREE NEIGHBORHOODS SURROUNDED BY A LARGE GREEN RING OF OUTDOOR SPACE. THE PROJECT REVOLVED AROUND CREATING A BUILDING METHOD THAT WAS EASY FOR MY GROUPMATES AND I TO BUILDING OUR PROPOSALS AND OUR PROPOSAL THEMSELVES.

THE MODULE WAS COMPRISED OF CONCRETE MASONARY UNITS AND 4X4 TIMBER BLOCKS AND THROUGH VARIOUS ARRANGEMENTS WOULD EITHER CATER TO PEOPLE,PETS,OR BOTH. LIKE ANY DESIGN PROCESS THE CONSTRUCTION METHOD EVOLVED INTO NOT USING THE CMU AND BECAME A MORE TIMBER HEAVY CONSTRUCTION METHOD. ALL THE WHILE STILL MAINTAINING THAT THE FURNITURE CREATED FOR THIS DOG PARK NEED TO SERVICE PEOPLE,DOG AND BOTH INHABITANTS AS THE SAME TIME. THE DOG PARK WAS AN ESSENTIAL PROGRAM BECAUSE MANY RESIDENTS OWNED DOG WHO WOULD DEFICATE THROUGH OUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND RUN AROUND WITHOUHT VERY MANY PLACES TOTRULY ENJOY WITHOUT DISTURBING OTHER RESIDENTS. THE PROTYPE MADE FOCUSED ON CREATING A SMALL STOOL AND OTTOMAN FOR A CHILD THAT WOULD BE APART OF THE OVERALL FURNITURE COLLECTION PICTURED UNDERNEATH THE ZOOMED IN SITE PLAN. THE PARK ITSELF WAS PLACED RIGHT BEHIND THE COMMUNITY CENTER WHERE MANY OF ELDERLY COMMUNITY ( WHO ALSO DEMOGRAPHICALLY OWNED THE MOST DOGS) SPENT MUCH OF THEIR TIME. IDEALLY THERE WOULD BE AN OPENING MADE WITHIN THAT WALL TO ALLOW FOR A BETTER FLOW OF PEOPLE. THE COMMUNITY INTERACTION DAY ITSELF WAS EXTREMLY INTERESTING BECAUSE THE NEIGHBORS REACTIONS TO THE PROPOSAL WAS ALL ACROSS THE BOARD. SOME TRULY LIKE THE FACT THAT MANY ISSUES WERE BEING ADDRESSED AND OTHERS WERE MORE SKETPTIC ABOUT THE OVERALL PROCESS IN GENERAL. IT WAS A LONG DAY BUT A GOOD DAY FILLED WITH GREAT FEEDBACK AND A WONDERFUL TURN OUT.
