Weather is small talk, but seasons have depth. Seasons are not only marked by the division of a year with spring, summer, fall and winter, but also certain times in our lives. Many of us go through the same seasons, but at different times. Some seasons are normal, happening naturally at certain ages or stages, others are unexpected and unpredictable. During the spring and fall, we see nature transform before our very eyes. From the budding “green haze” of springtime, to the colour changes and shedding of leaves during fall. There’s a purpose and a plan behind this process, much like the seasons we go through in life. With a tree however, the outcome is very clear and expected at specific times in the year. With the seasons of life, we don’t always know the why, when or how. This summer has been great on so many levels, and equally as hard. I know I’m not alone in this. As I breathe in the last of the warm summer air, and look to the season ahead I can’t help but reflect on what this time of life is teaching me. Fall is all about the warm, cozy layers, both inside and out. This issue has a healthy dose of fashion and interiors, from wardrobe essentials and style ideas, to a tour through the warm and fresh feel of the main floor of our NFDI Rosedale project. Get ready for a closet overhaul and some fresh interior inspiration from this home we love, almost as much as our clients. Also, meet Ben and Roz, the cutest little furry friends! Snuggle up and grab the remote. Our staff picks reveal our inner Hollywood with a nod to a movie or TV show honing in on our personal interior and fashion vibes. We hope you’re enjoying learning more about our team by way of our “If NFDI were…” series! Lastly, and not to be missed, some warm desert vibes and colour inspiration with our top picks for the perfect fall paint palette. We hope you enjoy this issue of NFDI Style, and while the trees shed their leaves, and we add on layers, let’s celebrate the strength in our roots, regardless of the season we’re in. Much love,

W E R E A S H O W | M O V I E Cozy up around the TV (or computer!) and get to know team NFDI by way of the show, or movie that isn’t necessarily our favourite “flick”, but rather the one that speaks to us from an interior design and fashion aesthetic. We apologize in advance for any binge watching that may result from this article.

NYLA The H ol iday

Both homes in this modern day classic Christmas romcom, have a European flavour which I continuously gravitate towards. From the stone walls, cozy atmosphere and charming interior of the Cotswold home, to the spacious, Spanish tiled, relaxed sophistication of the home in San Marino, both speak to my love of an old world, laid back luxe aesthetic. From a fashion perspective, Amanda Wood‘s style is everything. I’d happily move her closet right into mine!

BRI Nashville

Growing up in a musical family, I was immersed in a variety of genres at an early age. It wasn’t until my teen’s that I truly embraced all that country music had to offer, and grew to appreciate the story telling component of the songs. In 2012, when Nashville was released to viewers, I fell in love with the show’s storyline and underlying musical theme, finding familiarity in the overall country aesthetic, from fashion to interiors and of course in the music. The perfect pairing!

ALEX Frie nds

I am a 90’s kid at heart and grew up watching the show faithfully every week. The colourful, quirky, eclectic aesthetic is reminiscent of my own design style. Friends are also such an important part of my life, my friends are my family, just like on the show. I frequently make references to the humour,, and people who know me often say that I am similar to Monica, in that I am an organized clean freak! My husband always jokes, no crummies allowed!

ANA

M a n f ro m the Stars I have loved Korean drama for as long as I can remember, subtitles and all! Not only am I inspired by the interior and fashion elements, I am drawn to the romance and love story. It’s an escape from the day to day in the comfort of my own home. I also love ‘shopping’ the show to gather outfit ideas and new fashion brands to explore.

KERST IN Anne with an ‘ E ’

“Anne of Green Gables” was the first book I loved. I could, and still can, relate to the dreamer girl who lives in worlds created by her imagination. A fellow wordsmith, Anne understands the sublime power of language, words, and books. The pastoral, turn-ofthe-century world of Green Gables appeals to me visually and aesthetically. I feel as if I could *belong* (to cite a theme from the book/show) there.

JACKIE R o ya l Te n e n b au ms

I have always been drawn to the colourful and unconventional. Anything by Wes Anderson makes my heart flutter, however The Royal Tenenbaums is classic and iconic in the world of independent cinema. The nostalgic eclectic layers and persona’s of the characters resonate in the set design, cinematography and costume design, which is a never ending source of inspiration for me. This story looks at the complicated and intertwined nature of family in a lighthearted and whimsical way, which I know all too well lol. Not what you expected, but you love it all the same. Who doesn’t love a good dramedy!

When clients aren’t afraid of a quirky home layout, and see potential to make it great, the excitement starts to grow and creative juices begin to flow. A circa 1940’s home with a 1980’s renovation, our clients saw past the odd layout and embraced the beautiful natural light and overall feeling, knowing there was a way to make this home their own. It was an extensive process of moving walls and relocating a staircase, all the while embracing the existing structure. The ultimate goal for the kitchen was to design and create a functional space with an aesthetic true to our clients.. A wall was added to improve the layout and provide more storage in the kitchen, as well as create separation from the mudroom. The space is voluminous with a vaulted ceiling so creating a sense of intimacy on the main floor was an important part of the design. From the plant ledge and furniture style island to the stone surround fireplace and fresh colour scheme, this main floor renovation checks off all the boxes and gives this space a wonderful new personality. p.s. Let’s not forget to mention the pups, Roz and Ben. They’re the real celebrities here!

FALL FASHION ials

Essent

Fall is a favorite when it comes to fashion. The added layers, cozy sweaters and the multiple textures give a feeling and look of warmth as the temps starts to drop. If there’s one season where wardrobe staples are key, it’s fall. With a mix of investment pieces and this year’s trends, we’re sharing Nyla’s must haves to move through the season in style.

CHUNKY KNIT SWEATER A must have for fall no matter your style. A chunky sweater is an all day, everyday, wearable staple.

WIDE LEG DENIM A year long wardrobe essential, moves seamlessly into fall paired with chunky knits and cashmere. One the most versatile pairing with footwear, whether white sneakers, booties or even tall boots. You can’t go wrong!

TALL BOOT

With extra leg coverage for cooler days, tall boots are the perfect addition whether you’re dressing up or dressing down. Throw on with wide leg jeans or a short dress for instant height and style.

MAXI DRESS

Get extra wear out of a summery dress by bringing it into to fall with added layers. The flowy bottom is the perfect layer alongside chunky sweaters or juxtaposed with a leather jacket.

WHITE SNEAKERS

These shoes have become my go-to slip ons for comfort and style (they really do feel like the most stylish slippers!) and are a great accompaniment to jeans or a dress.

HOODIE

Not simply for weekend lounging anymore, the classic hoodie is a great essential to elevate a skirt or pair with a blazer for a sporty, errand running vibe.

- 38 -

DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER A wear with anything key wardrobe item, pairing equally well with sneakers or heels, and denim or dress pants.

LEATHER JACKET Consider this your jean jacket for the fall. It’s a throw on with ease and wear with everything necessity, whether biker style or bomber.

NUDE LIPSTICK Add a slight colour to your lips without feeling overdone. I love the matte, all day wear of this stick. Top it off with a clear gloss for added shine, if you feel so inclined!

LONG SLEEVE DRESS

Keep your arms warm as we move into fall with longer sleeves. Leave your legs bare a little longer with the addition of tall boots to complete the look.

TURTLENECK

A wardrobe staple for almost 20 years, this fall essential is the perfect item whether wearing alone, or as a layer. You won’t regret the investment!

ANKLE BOOT A go-to boot and highly versatile. A chunkier heel makes for all day comfort and will transition well moving into the winter months.
