Tuesday, March LECTURE Letting it All Hang Out
This exhibition features the work of 15 NYSID BFA candidates who completed their thesis projects in December 2012. They are Valli Aleman, JinSoo An, Nitcole Barthelme, Jessica Serrano Capurro, Weishan Chan, Melissa Christopherson, Stuart Clarke, Zarina Gabaraeva, Dohwe Gu, Na Young Kang, Gyeonghee Kil, Alison Jennison, Nadine Lynch, Zisi Kurzer-Naimark, and Katie Whalen.
What to do with those blank walls? Come see the exhibit of limited edition posters from Lincoln Center’s Vera List Project. Then hear top designers and a frame specialist tell you everything you need to know about decorating with interesting and affordable art.

Wednesday, January LECTURE Ezra Stoller Photographs Interiors
A great photographer can make beautiful spaces look even more so. Erica Stoller and Akiko Busch, co-authors of the new book Ezra Stoller: Photographer (Yale University Press, 2012), will show how the legendary architectural photographer Ezra Stoller did it, with published and unpublished photos from some of his celebrated projects including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building. Thursday, January 6:30pm PANEL DISCUSSION The Textured Interior: Fabric Design of D.D. and Leslie Tillett and the Next Generation Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) and NYSID are co-hosting a special evening on how contemporary textile designers, fabric houses, and interior designers are approaching their work and building on the legacy of D.D. and Leslie Tillett, who recently had an exhibition at MCNY. Speakers include Steven Stolman, president of Scalamandre Fabrics; textile designer Lori Weitzner; and interior designer Susan Zises Green. Moderated by MCNY curator Donald Albrecht and Judith Gura, author and NYSID faculty member.

Join us as Richard Guy Wilson, noted architectural historian and author of Edith Wharton at Home, leads a discussion exploring the enduring principles of good, livable design through an examination of Edith Wharton’s and Ogden Codman’s 1897 treatise The Decoration of Houses. Tuesday, February LECTURE Mohammed Ayoub: Designing Healthier Hospitals
Mohammed Ayoub—NYC studio lead design principal and associate vice president at HDR Architecture Inc. — will talk about new approaches to healthcare design and how it is being implemented in recent supersize and supermodern projects such as the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi and others in Saudi Arabia as well as hospitals being developed in the US. In 2011, Ayoub received Building Design + Construction magazine’s prestigious 40 Under 40 award and he is well regarded for his dynamic and thought-provoking designs. Emily Pilloton is founder and executive director of Studio H, a non-profit charitable organization that supports, inspires, and promotes humanitarian and life-improving product design initiatives for humanity, habitats, health, and happiness. Trained in architecture (at the University of California, Berkeley) and product design (at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago), Pilloton believes in design as an honest process of building and activism for community benefit. She has appeared on the TED stage and on The Colbert Report, and has authored the books Design Revolution and Tell Them I Built This. This lecture is in conjunction with NYSID’s Green Design Awards, an annual event that acknowledges individuals and businesses who have made outstanding contributions toward advancing the cause of sustainable design.
