Budget Update – •
VP Memos – Paul O’Brien o Notes from the memo: 1. All work in Policy and Campaigns has to fall into a couple of areas a. Economic Justice i. Climate Change ii. Ag/Trade b. Haiti c. Extractives d. Aid Effectiveness e. Humanitarian f. Paul’s budget 2. Paul was given a total sum of money, and was not told how to divide it up amongst campaigns a. He had to figure out how to divide up this money among campaigns b. Gina sat in on meetings with Paul where each team proposed a set of goals (for EJ it was objectives) c. Friday, July 30th managers got their division of the money 3. Most units in our division took a budget cut for FY11 a. Last year we also had Rif funds – the applications that were approved for us this past FY (ex: Allies Advisor) were included in the budget for this year – our budget for FY11 is therefore a flat budget and there are no Rifs b. Our OA unrestricted budget is smaller by approximately 25%

Bad news –
•
•
o
Golzar was hired for a year – (which started at the end of last November) to kick start our Control Arms campaign at the beginning of December 2009 The money for this position came from a grant that was only for Golzar and not for supporting work – because of the budget cut we had to cut the Organizing Control Arms work – we are unable to fund Golzar’s position at this time Campaign managers are going to try to raise funds for Control Arms

Questions – 1. Operations a. There is not enough new money to expand some of our programs b. We are adding a signature program – National Security i. We will be trying to engage Generals, etc around EJ, EI and Haiti c. SoP will continue as it did last year i. We are inviting a small group (5 women) to be part of “Sisters Circle” – this will start in October 1. We are trying to take these women to the field d. There is some Gates money out there i. We may be able to expand SoP with some of this money 2. National Security – Jon Scanlon comments a. Jon thinks that it is really smart to start working on National Security b. AE has concerns with the upcoming elections (we could have a Republican House) and that we might not be able to get legislation that AE wants without ties with Faith Leaders/communities and National Security
