Karavelioğlu stating that the World’s machinery exportation has increased by 10% added that world agricultral machinery exportation has increased by 52% and reached to 73 billion dollars. Karavelioğlu who drew attention that Turkey is a powerful country in terms of machinery and equipments for agricultural
investments continued his words: “Our government supports agriculture with 7 billion dollars annually, and there exist trade surplus at the same rate in the sector. We have developed geeenhousing technique and integrated it with our renewable energy resources. We don’t have to be bound to importation for irrigation equipments. 90% of the market is local in terms of tractors. We are rapidly improving our machineries
to be used in the smart agriculture applications. Our success in this area is not accidental because there is not Turkish Machinery’s any quality or technology lack in not only in the agricultural machinery field, but also in any branch of the machinery sector. While our products’ productivities are continuously rising, increase in the exportation unit prices is the response of our experience and investments resulting from many years.”

MACHINERY SINE QUA NON FOR MANUFACTURE, STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION HUMANBEING’S DEVELOPING AND USING MACHINERY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR NEEDS AND CREATING A PLUS VALUE WITH THESE MACHINERY HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT IMPORTANT BREAKTHROUGHS IN THE MODERN HUMANITY HISTORY. IMPORTANT CHANGES HAPPENED IN THE EQUIPMENTS NECESSARY FOR THE LIFTING, CARRYING AND TRANSFERRING AND EFFECTIVELY STORING THE LOADS THANKS TO THE FIRST INDUSTRY REVOLUTION AND TRANFERRING FIRSTLY STEAM AND THEN THE ELECTRIC POWER INTO THE INDUSTRY. MATERIALS LIFTING, CARRYING AND HANDLING EQUIPMENT SECTOR HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DEVELOPED AND CREATES A POWERFUL ECONOMIC MOBILITY TODAY. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS INCLUDING THE 84TH CHAPTER OF THE UN DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS, THE SECTOR WHICH REACHED 29.5 BILLION DOLLARS TRADE VOLUME IN THE JANUARY-JUNE PERIOD OF THIS YEAR OBTAINED INCREASE AT THE RATE OF 15.6% COMPARED TO THE LAST YEAR. IT REACHED 62 MILLION DOLLARS EXPORTATION VALUE BY 22% INCREASE IN TURKEY IN THIS PERIOD AND HAS RANKED AS 25TH IN AT THE GLOBAL LEAGUE.
O
ne of the biggest revolutions of the human being is using the energy in the machinery undoubtedly. Once the human being were making an effort to perform activities with their physical strength, and especially
• 124
developing simple machines which would enable them to use high physical strength while lifting heavy loads. Human being making profit from and easing the activities by making less effort thanks to the simple machines carried out only
ordinary activities of which their strength was capable and continued to develop much more sophisticated and powerful machinery for much heavier goods which exceeded their strength limit. Materials lifting, carrying and handling equipment sector
has significantly developed and creates a powerful economic mobility today. According to the results including the 84th chapter of the UN Department of Statistics, the sector which reached trade volume for 29.5 billion dollars in the
January-June period of this year obtained increase at the rate of 15.6% compared to the last year. While the global exportation in this period has growth by 16.8%, the global importation has improved by 14.3%. LABOR FORCE IS DECREASING PLUS VALUE IS BEING CREATED Human being’s developing and using machinery in accordance with the needs and creating a plus value with machinery have always brought important breakthroughs in the modern humanity history. The first and biggest problem confronted during the processes ranging from constructing irrigation systems by opening channels and buildings appropriate to their belief systems to storing and carrying the products, of course, was towards how to overcome the heavy loads. With that aim, human being who developed solutions for the problems by inventing simple spools, windlasses and levers designed and manufactured the first cranes which can produce energy by labor force eventually. The first known crane system has been considered to have been invented by Roman architecture Vitruvius and in this system consisting of a mast fixed with ropes and on which there existed a spool, another rope getting through the spool was connected to a treadmill turned by labor force. Weights were tried to be lifted by treadmill turned by labor force in this way. And then in 15th century, more useful and functional crane called as crane with pulley block was invented in Italy. The first crane to work by steam power, namely by energy was developed by a Scotch named John Rennie in the 19th century.
THE MACHINERY NEEDED IN EVERY POINT OF THE MANUFACTURE Important changes happened in the equipments necessary for the lifting, carrying and transferring and effectively storing the loads thanks to the first industry revolution and transferring firstly steam and then the electric power into the industry. The demand toward the materials lifting, carrying and handling equipment which was begun to be used densely with the practical solutions provided in storage and distribution in the beginnings of the 1930s in USA and Europe has been continuing increasingly today. The sector which is appealing to more and more areas day by day thanks to the developing technology has become one of the integral parts of Turkish economy. Materials lifting, carrying and handling equipment has been used in all financial fields including the agriculture, industry and service sectors; and the sector products have been playing an important role in the phrases of bringing both production and final products especially in the
manufacture industries with the end user. In this context, along with its importance in terms of the functions, incorporating the intermediate goods and final products manufactured by main engineering branches such as machinery and electrical and electronics which produce high added value thanks to its advanced technology makes its general manufacturing and the place within the sector indispensable. When the products that the sector has comprised are reviewed, numerous machinery and equipment can be seen ranging from the conveyors in various capacity and sizes carrying raw materials from mine sites to harbors and power plants, electrical overhead traveling cranes used in the transport of the material from one point to the production line in factories, forklifts loading the end products to the container in a food factory to the elevators aiming to lift people which we use in our everyday life and moving staircases. The sector mainly manufacturing machinery and equipment in nature of investment goods
with the aim of performing the intrabusiness activities of short-range carrying, storing and handling in and after the manufacture has been affected not only by developments in our country but also by the changes in the supply-demand balance because of the global economic developments since it has a structure including various products of industrial branches from hydraulic systems used almost by every industry branches and again in the complicated manufacture processes to electric motors. In this sense, the sector is continuing its work to be more prevail day by day in the superior engineering abilities and material science required by electronic and control systems with advanced technology which the general automotive and machinery industry have and to carry its competition ability onward by improving products with added value. TRADE VOLUME OF THE SECTOR HAS APPROACHED TO 30 BILLION DOLLARS IN THE JANUARY-JUNE PERIOD According to the results including the 84th chapter 125 • NOVEMBER 2018

of the UN Department of Statistics, while the economic volume which the sector created on a global scale has reached 29.5 billion dollars in the January-June period of this year, the sector which has obtained increase at the rate of 15.6% compared to the last year has risen by 16.8% in the global exportation. The global exportation of the sector which had been 12.9 billion dollars in the same period of 2016 was 13.5 billion dollars in the same period of 2017 and has reached to 15.8 billion dollars in this year. Similarly, there has been an improvement by 14.3% in the global importation of the sector. The global exportation volume of the sector which had been 11.4 billion dollars in January-June period of 2016 increased • 126
to 11.9 billion dollars in the same period of 2017 and has reached to 13.6 billion dollars in this year. When reviewed the global exportation of the materials lifting, carrying and handling equipment on the countries basis, the leadership of Germany is drawing attention. According to the data of UN Department of Statistics, while Germany which carried out exportation for 2.8 billion dollars in the January-June period has increased its exportation by 14.4% compared to the last year and Chine is following Germany with an increase by 23.6% and exportation for 2.3 billion dollars in the same period. At the third rank of the global exportation list of the sector, USA has taken its place with the exportation figure for 1.7 billion dollars. The exportation
increase of USA in this period has stated as 6%. Similarly, while Turkey has increased its sectoral export by 22% compared to the same period of 2017, and Turkish lifting, carrying and handling equipment exportation in the January-June period of 2018 has been measured as 62 billion dollars. Turkey has still taken its place at the 25th rank in the world ranking with this number. IN THE JANUARYSEPTEMBER PERIOD THE EXPORTATION HAS INCREASED BY 12.2% When detailed exportation and importation numbers are reviewed specifically to Turkey, we can say that we are carrying out exportation mostly with Australia and importation mostly with Germany.
When Turkey’s sectoral export has been reviewed considering the countries, according to the data explained by TÜİK and including the 84th chapter, while Turkey has carried out exportation for 87.2 million dollars with an increase by 12% in the January-September period of this year, importation for 82.8 million dollars with a decrease by 2.2% with Germany ranking as 1st in the sector importation of Turkey in the same period is drawing attention. It won’t be incorrect to say that the importation amount’s being nearly equal to Turkey’s sectoral export is a title which should be dwelled on importantly. On the other hand, although Turkey has experienced 6.3% loss proportionately to the TÜİK data, it has carried out exportation for 276.6 billion dollars in total which is worth more than three times its exportation amount in the JanuarySeptember period of this year. THE SIXTH BIGGEST SECTOR OF THE EUROPE Along with this, according to the data announced by Materials Handling, Storage & Industrial Equipment Association of Turkey (İSDER), Turkey still continues to be the sixth biggest lifting, carrying and handling equipment sector of the Europe. While 200 manufacturer firms and 100 sub-industry firms are operating in the sector which carries out export into 130 countries totally, 60% of the inner demand of Turkey is met by the firm conducting manufacture in the sector. The sector targeting to be the third biggest market of the Europe in 2020 has sold more than 130 thousand forklift in the last 45 years.
