The Oakham Piano Trio return to our professional concert series with an evening of romantic masterworks. Schubert’s youthfully exuberant “Sonatensatz” one-movement trio (composed when the composer was just 15 years old) is placed alongside Brahms’ final piano trio and Fauré’s op. 120, written in his final year of life. This unmissable concert promises to have it all, from the innocence of youth to the experience and wisdom of a lifetime, delivered with the mixture of virtuosity and musicality for which the Oakham Piano Trio is widely praised.
21 January - 24 February

Oakham Student Arts Festival, OSAF, champions students’ creativity by offering the time, space, and support to devise a piece of theatre from scratch. This three-day event provides a platform for students to share their ideas, allowing them to explore various theatrical genres, alongside any topic that they find interesting. Students can turn their hands to writing, directing, design or acting. The collaborative nature of this project is a brilliant learning curve, allowing students to conquer the fear of the ‘blank page’ and provides them with the opportunity to make their creative voices heard.

Hector Berlioz March to the Scaffold (Symphonie Fantastique)
Samuel Barber Allegro molto moderatio (Violin Concerto)
In Carmina Burana, Orff weaves an intoxicating mix of medieval poetry and student drinking songs with a powerful battery of percussion, its opening and closing chorus ‘O Fortuna’ having become iconic in contexts far wider than the composer could have imagined.
The delirium of our programme extends with the hallucinations of Berlioz’s protagonist in the haunting ‘March to the Scaffold’ from his Symphonie Fantastique.
To cleanse your palette, enjoy the first movement of Samuel Barber’s luscious Violin Concerto, served alongside offerings from the Concert Band.
