Oakhill Day School: Roots
LETTER FROM THE HEAD A message from Suzanne McCanles The 2022/2023 school year, our 75th Anniversary, brought great success to the Development Department: a successful day of giving for athletic sideline chairs, an increase in RMD (required minimum donations) from IRA accounts, new and renewed community partnerships, a goal exceeding ACORN Day project, a new and exciting silent auction event at Outlaw Cigar and Brewery, a highly successful live auction Diamond Soirée gala, a wellreceived fund-a-need project (jumbotron and lighting), and a picture-perfect day on the Golf Course at the Helen Wills’ Annual Golf Tournament. The year brought about changes in the Development Office - transitions at the Director position, as well as the ultimate formation of the Advancement Team to allow for continuity and familiarity for all of our donors-to cultivate, and guarantee, confidence within the department. The Advancement Team is led by over 65 collective years of Oakhill knowledge and experience; the team knows the community, the donors, and the school’s direction! The 75th anniversary school theme was a play on words from a top grossing movie of the year, “TOPONE-the best of the best through the decades”. We reflected this theme in all that we did! Due to a determined Admissions Department, a strong marketing plan, increased revenue streams, and healthy fundraising initiatives and events, Oakhill enjoyed overall financial success. The 75th Anniversary Diamond Soirée was a huge success-the party of the year! Not only did the auction bring the community together, but it generated revenue and inspired those in attendance to raise $101,250.00 for the jumbotron/lighting fund-a-need project. It is amazing to see paddles being raised within a small amount of time to raise a significant amount of money to better the school!

2022-2023
Oakhill does not have an endowment or significant cash reserves, yet we continue to find a way to make it happen. As we plan for the days, months, and years ahead, we continue to add budgeted money to our PPRRSM (Provision for Plant Replacement, Renewal, and Special Projects) account. This account is set aside for emergency plant repair or facilities related special projects. For example, this past year, we utilized funds from this account to install a new gymnasium HVAC unit. We will continue to grow this account each year, ensuring deferred maintenance does not get in the way of our future goals and plans. You are reading this letter a few months after we announced our newest fund-a-need project; our mini capital campaign: The Welcome Project: Opening Doors for an Elevated Experience! A master campus plan was created last spring, with the fund-a-need projects outlined. I am so excited to tackle these much needed additions and improvements; thank you in advance for your support. Thank you for your continued generosity, engagement, and trust in Oakhill. Thank you for making Oakhill your not-forprofit of choice, through the Mighty Oak Fund, fundraising events, and sponsorships, we will meet our monetary and institutional goals while continuing to be innovative and forward thinking. We will continue to make all of our decisions on behalf of the students and in the best interest of the school; to balance educating our students with running a 7.1 million dollar business. Excitement to come,
Suzanne McCanles Head of School

2022-2023
A NOTE FROM THE BOARD Thank you, Oakhill Community! You helped support another great year with your generous donations of time, treasure, and talent. In the 2022-2023 school year, we saw increased turnout for school activities and events, as well as having more parents and families back in the building to support our teachers, staff, and most importantly, our students (your kids)! Your donations helped us continue on our path to reducing debt, improving the facilities, keeping the lights on and doors open. However our work here is not done, we still need to continuously work to fill the gap between what tuition covers and the rising cost to keep this organization up and running. We’ve come a long way … from acquiring an abandoned school building which is now our main campus, to repairing substantial damage from a tornado many moons ago, to purchasing and renovating the south building, we’ve grown and grown! These are amazing times and each year, this community rises up together as a family to support Oakhill and help provide for the future of this incredible educational institution. Oakhill Day School’s Board of Trustees remains committed in serving the Oakhill Community as a fiduciary board overseeing and supporting Suzanne’s leadership and vision for this amazing Northland treasure. As I pass the torch to your 2023-2024 Board President Josh Smith, I hope you will please continue to give to Oakhill and consider making Oakhill one of your top three organizations to support because without you, there wouldn’t be an Oakhill where our students are known and encouraged to be their best self. It is with great appreciation that we thank you. Thank You for choosing Oakhill and being a part of this community. Respectfully,
An Le Oakhill 2022-2023 Board of Trustees President

The Advancement team members are (Left to Right): Sherri Gannon, Registrar, Purchaser, and Advancement Support; Maggie Newhouse, Director of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations; Michelle McDaniel, Director of Marketing, Communications and Mission Advancement; Dorothy Beckham, Director of Admissions and Financial Assistance; Suzanne McCanles, Head of School; and Taylor Clevenger, Director of Kids Club, Summer Programming, Athletics, and Edupreneurship.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE, ONE DONATION AT A TIME Oakhill's Advancement Story Advancement and Development go hand in hand; Development (fundraising events, planned giving, sponsorships, Mighty Oak Fund donations), dollars are needed to advance the mission of the school, and the direction of the school inspires donors to give and engage in fundraising activities! Although we use this educational jargon, when all is said and done, the Advancement Team strives to close the gap … balance the budget … and help the school progress.
I enjoy my piece of the philanthropic puzzle; I am honored to sit down with parents, alumni, and friends of Oakhill to share our mission, our vision, and how our events and fundraising initiatives will impact our budget, our school, our programs and most importantly our students. My goal is to cultivate relationships with Oakhill's major donors and provide strategic direction to the Development Department. The Development Office's plan and direction are comprehensive and strategic for the 23/24 school year; utilizing the team approach provides the right personnel, talents, and framework needed for successful fundraising events and initiatives -Suzanne McCanles
Oakhill Day School is a non-profit 501C3 private independent school whose only source of income is tuition and mission-driven revenue resulting from summer programming, kids club, facility rentals, and tenant leasing. Tuition income makes up approximately 75% of our revenue, and salaries/benefits make up approximately 70% of our expenses. The remaining 25% of our expenses comes from security, technology, campus/facilities, curriculum, professional development, insurance, field trips, athletics, and marketing. To keep tuition affordable, we do not charge what it costs to educate a student; therefore, that “gap” must be made up through alternate revenue sources. The Development Office-our Advancement Teamhelps to fill that gap! This team meets with new and current families to provide education and information about Independent School organization, volunteerism, and philanthropy, specifically at Oakhill. It is vital to Oakhill for every family to recognize the significance of philanthropy and the necessity of successfully reaching fundraising goals. If we all give a little, it will add up to a lot! No gift is too large or too small! Your generosity and support mean the world to us!

This year, our success in financial management is largely attributed to the incredible support from our community. Through fundraising initiatives and additional income from programs like summer activities, we've been able to keep our budget in check. This means we can cover our regular school expenses while also investing in exciting things like new books, technology upgrades, and engaging activities for everyone. Reflecting on the past year, we're thrilled to share some positive news. Due to careful financial planning, we were able to preserve all the fantastic aspects of our school and even implement improvements. This includes retaining exceptional teachers, maintaining quality classrooms, and upgrading technology to enhance the learning experience. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to our success. Your support ensured that we didn't have to make cuts to essential areas, and it provides the foundation for keeping Oakhill a vibrant and dynamic learning environment. In essence, by collaborating and maintaining a balanced budget, we can continue making Oakhill Day School an outstanding place to learn and grow. Your involvement in our Oakhill community is invaluable, and we appreciate your role in securing a bright future for our school.

Celebrate Together Highlights from the PTO It has truly been an honor to serve our Oakhill community for the past two years as the PTO President! I am constantly humbled by the outstanding volunteer leaders and support we have from parents and teachers at all of our events. We finally were able to execute a full-scale carnival that brought back the community in an exciting and joyful evening. The carnival had a variety of activities that took place in the backdrop of our new playground. It made the beginning of the school year feel extra special. The start of fall is always a busy time! Grandparents/Special Friends Day was followed by a perfect evening at Red Barn Farm in Weston. Grandparents and Special Friends were treated to a farmers market, book fair, and pictures at the Main Campus during the day. The fun continued that evening at Red Barn Farm with a pumpkin patch, hayrides, corn maze, guided tractor tours, a country store, food from our awesome kitchen crew, and s’more kits donated by our preschool families.
I want to thank each and every volunteer that contributed to making our PTO events special and community centered. It is always fun to get together as an entire school body to catch up with other families and see each other outside of our day-to-day routines. This is what makes Oakhill feel special as we grow together.

Michelle Shekleton PTO President (2021-2023)
We hosted the 5th annual Holiday Hoopla in the gym with a kids craft make and take area in the commons. We look forward to expanding and making this event bigger next year! A special shout out to our Teacher Appreciation Committee that goes above and beyond to make everyone on staff feel extra special. I think the highlights of this year were the Turkey Pluck in November and the Egg Hunt in the spring. Our Room Parents are hardworking volunteers that make sure all the classroom parties are fantastic, appreciate their teachers and support staff, and help with the annual auction by collecting items for the great baskets to be offered. Parents and students had a fun evening at our annual Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dances in the gym. Food, balloons, and dancing was enjoyed by all! The light up dance floor was so popular we might have to make it an annual tradition! Our year-end picnic was delayed a week due to weather, but once the weather cooperated we all had a great time eating hot dogs and popsicles while the kids ran around Linden Square!
Michelle Shekleton served for 2-years as PTO President leaving her mark on the organization through successful community building and fundraising. Michelle is mom to sons Jack and Philip who are students in Oakhill’s Intermediate and Middle School Divisions.

The Gift of Time
Volunteers Make Greatness Happen! Where would we be without our volunteers? Giving back is one of the ways we fulfill our mission at Oakhill. Parents and grandparents volunteer on a regular basis to help out at events and in the library.
We had nearly 100 parent and grandparent volunteers to help with everything from events to day-to-day needs. Our Middle School and Upper School students completed over 1,800 volunteer hours throughout the Kansas City Metro area. The Presidential Service Award recognizes United States citizens who have achieved a minimum of 50 hours of service over a 12-month period. By the end of their school career, our Middle School students will have earned a minimum of 45 service hours required for graduation. The following students were recognized for going above and beyond that goal, earning at minimum one volunteer hour per week. Mallen Cameron–65 hours Maya Fleck–50 hours Hannah Haar–58 hours Brooklyn Kumar–50 hours Kace Pohl–50 hours Kaylynn Saylor–50 hours Philip Shekleton–50 hours Alex Tomeldan–50 hours Hudson Hurst–75 hours Liam Gorman–80.75 hours Daniel Fitzpatrick–113.5 hours Huntley Harken–100 hours Andy Phung–133 hours

Oakhill Day School: Roots
Your support of Oakhill plays a pivotal role in bolstering the vitality of the school, influencing not only the classroom experience but also benefiting the school faculty and ensuring Oakhill's long-term sustainability. Financial contributions provide crucial resources for educational enhancements, infrastructure improvements, and the implementation of innovative programs. This influx of funds directly translates into an enriched learning environment for students, fostering academic excellence and a more comprehensive educational experience. Moreover, volunteerism complements monetary support by contributing human capital. Whether you are an Oakhill parent, alumni, or community member, your dedication as a volunteer dramatically amplifies the school's capacity to offer extracurricular activities, one-on-one support, and additional educational opportunities. This collaborative effort enhances the overall educational ecosystem and creates a sense of community engagement. For school faculty, monetary gifts often translate into professional development opportunities, updated technology, and improved working conditions. These elements contribute to a more dynamic and supportive workplace and empower educators to deliver high-quality instruction and stay abreast of educational advancements. In terms of the institution's longevity, a combination of financial backing and volunteerism fosters a robust and resilient foundation. The ability to adapt to evolving educational needs, attract and retain talented educators, and continually invest in facilities and programs ensures that the school remains relevant and sustainable over time. By fostering a culture of giving and active participation, schools can create a legacy of excellence beyond individual academic years. In essence, the synergy between monetary gifts and volunteerism is essential for the holistic development of a school, impacting classrooms, supporting faculty, and contributing to the enduring success and vibrancy of the educational institution.

Never again will my hand be the same, 'Twill be bigger and stronger for the world I will tame It is glazed all in readiness, awaiting the kiln And awaiting the future, when soft memories instill Sweet thoughts of the days and the hours spent pursuing For the ways learned at Little Folks, I will always be using
Kalsu's Vision: A Celebration of 75 Years Founded in 1947 as the Antioch Community Nursery School and Kindergarten, Oakhill embarked on a mission to provide a nurturing and academic environment for young learners in the Kansas City Northland. Originally named Little Folks in 1948, the school, under the visionary leadership of founder Wanda Lee Kalsu, accommodated 23 students, charging a modest $12.50 per school month. Little did they know, this small beginning would pave the way for Oakhill's transformative journey. Oakhill's roots took hold in the basement of the Antioch Community Church before relocating to 300 NE 58th Terrace in Gladstone, Missouri, with aspirations to expand its academic program to include second through fourth grades. The school's growth eventually led to its current home at 7019 North Cherry in 1989, marking a milestone with the graduation of its inaugural Eighth Grade class in 2010. The acquisition of the Gladstone Office Building in 2015 and subsequent expansion to grade twelve in 2021 showcased Oakhill's commitment to academic excellence. An initial gift of $18,500 from board member H.R. Wurst paved the way for a dedicated community of philanthropists, whose support, both in time and resources, has been instrumental in Oakhill's success.

Oakhill's resilience, demonstrated through recovery from natural disasters and global pandemics, is a testament to the enduring community ethos forged by Kalsu. The warm and caring environment she envisioned remains, as evidenced by the dedication of high-quality teachers, staff, involved parents, and engaged students. Beyond academics, Oakhill prioritizes holistic development, offering students opportunities for physical activity, team sports, and championshipwinning Panther Athletics since 2011. With a vision to inspire through scholarship and empower compassionate learners, Oakhill remains steadfast in its commitment to cultivating adaptable, resilient individuals. As Oakhill continues to evolve, its trajectory is guided by a focus on comprehensive student well-being, merging academic excellence with physical strength. The legacy of Kalsu lives on, encapsulated in the enduring spirit of a community that truly thrives—only at Oakhill.

Academics with H.E.A.R.T Oakhill's Health and Wellness Department is dedicated to nurturing the complete well-being of each student, recognizing the importance of a harmonious balance in their physical, mental, and emotional realms. This holistic approach encompasses social and emotional well-being, academic success, and the cultivation of a healthy lifestyle, incorporating physical fitness, nutrition, and overall wellness. Abby Pavlisin, our Wellness Counselor, has developed Oakhill's Counseling Curriculum, focusing on students' social, emotional, and academic welfare. Recognizing the interconnectedness of these facets, Pavlisin supports every Oakhill student. Small group sessions address specific needs like anxiety and stress, while whole-class lessons cover essential topics such as identifying trusted adults and understanding character strengths. Delaney Zimmermann, our Learning Specialist and Support Coordinator, leads a team dedicated to academic support. Their efforts include weekly academic small groups, tutoring services, and the creation of Oakhill Student Success Plans, tailoring strategies to individual needs. Whole staff professional development ensures a comprehensive approach, covering areas like multi-sensory grammar and building thinking classrooms, while parent resources strengthen community partnerships. Under the guidance of Chris Fernandez, Director of Health and Wellness, the Physical Health Department emphasizes maintaining the well-being of both students and faculty. Through student evaluations, education on health and healthy habits, collaboration, and community outreach, Oakhill instills the importance of active participation in one's health.

Roots of Legacy: Oakhill's Alumni Connection Dear Oakhill Community, When we talk about the "roots" of why Oakhill is such a special place to grow and learn, I reflect on a segment of the Oakhill population closest to my heart–our Oakhill alumni crew. It seems like just yesterday I was in the classroom with many of them, and now they are out in the world, leading, creating, and leaving behind a legacy of success. They're not just a bunch of grads; they're living proof that an Oakhill education leaves a lasting mark. Your support as donors helps us keep those connections strong. And for that, we thank you! At Oakhill Day School, we're all about creating a space where students feel challenged, known, valued, and inspired to be their best. Your support enables us to fulfill this mission and ensures that our graduates take the knowledge and leadership skills gained at Oakhill to push their limits and find success. Oakhill's Portrait of a Graduate is our guiding beacon, encapsulating the qualities we strive to instill in each student. Our graduates emerge service-minded and community-oriented, adaptive and flexible, understanding the importance of balance. They seize opportunities confidently, are critical thinkers, polite and kind, self-aware, and possess a strong foundation, always striving to be their best selves. Alumni giving holds a unique significance at Oakhill, where many of our graduates, having ventured off to high school and college, find a powerful connection to their roots by becoming a member of the Kalsu Society of Friends, honoring the legacy of Oakhill's founder, Wanda Lee Kalsu. Despite the diverse paths they've explored, remembering their foundational years at Oakhill becomes a compelling touchstone. It's not just about giving back; it's about recognizing the enduring impact of where their educational journey began. Alumni giving ensures the foundation laid from early childhood to middle school, and as we look hopeful for the future of upper school at Oakhill, it remains vibrant, enabling current and future students to experience the transformative education that shaped our alumni's early years. It's a testament to the lasting influence of Oakhill, urging alums to be active contributors in preserving the legacy that set them on their individual paths to success. With heartfelt gratitude,
Maggie Newhouse

EXPANDING OUR REACH Bringing the World to the Classroom This past summer, Oakhill's faculty embarked on enriching professional development experiences, both nationally and internationally, to bring fresh perspectives and innovative teaching methods to the classrooms. It was through the generosity of Oakhill donors that these summer excursions were possible. Señora Cody WalkerHolmes and Mrs. Stephanie Youngblood seized the opportunity to explore Guatemala as part of Oakhill's overseas trip. Immersing themselves in the vibrant culture, they visited Guatemala City, Antigua, and villages near Lake Atitlán. Their hands-on experiences, including learning traditional weaving and understanding the significance of chocolate, inspired them to incorporate Guatemalan life and culture into lesson plans. Mrs. Youngblood, particularly, found the weaving experience valuable for Early Childhood Education at Oakhill, enhancing fine motor skills and offering insights applicable to various developmental stages. The Spanish program at Oakhill extends its cultural reach with the introduction of the Traveling Suitcase program, featuring Latin American artifacts. These thematic suitcases, a valuable addition for the upcoming school year, provide a tangible connection to Latin American culture. Similarly, Oakhill's commitment to professional development reached Nashville, where early childhood and lower school teachers attended the ELEVATE Nashville Conference. Focused on essential skills for prekindergarten through second-grade educators, the conference covered a diverse range of topics, including the 'Science of Reading.' Mrs. Sarah Tenner emphasized the impact of this session on literacy skills and the resulting changes to her classroom's curriculum.

The conference offered insights into engaging teaching practices, problem-solving opportunities, and incorporating STEAM projects into ELA and Math instruction. The collaborative learning environment fostered stronger teacher bonds, facilitating a seamless educational plan for students transitioning from early childhood to lower school. Mrs. Jodi Egbert highlighted the refreshing aspect of summer professional development, allowing teachers to not only gain new ideas but also to travel and build stronger bonds with colleagues. The conference inspired Mrs. Kristin Forsen to encourage joyful engagement in the classroom, emphasizing the importance of making learning fun for students. The trip to Nashville also featured an inspiring keynote speech by Mr. Ron Clark from the Ron Clark Academy, leaving an indelible mark on attendees. His passion for teaching resonated with Oakhill's educators, igniting a collective enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year. When faculty returns from professional development, they bring a wealth of knowledge, cultural experiences, and innovative teaching methods to share with the Oakhill community. These professional development opportunities not only enhance individual teaching practices but also contribute to the school's vibrant and dynamic educational environment.

2022-2023 Giving Tuesday Donors In the 2022-2023 academic year, Oakhill's Giving Tuesday initiative focused on raising funds for new sideline chairs and more. The gymnasium, serving as the heart of the school, plays a pivotal role in Oakhill's activities, events, and Champion Panther Athletics. The initiative aimed to enhance Oakhill’s athletics program by introducing new sideline chairs along with a refreshed logo and additional minor gym improvements. Promoting athletics for all students, including Panthers on the Prowl, Physical Education classes, and organized team sports, aligns with Oakhill's commitment to a healthy body supporting a healthy mind. The gym, central to various events like sports competitions, the Spelling Bee, and Graduations, welcomes hundreds of visitors each school year. 2022-2023 Auction & Fund-a-Need Last year's auction events at Oakhill Day School were a resounding success, offering two distinctive evenings of entertainment and philanthropy. The first, titled "Gold Rush: A Night at the 1947 Saloon," unfolded on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Outlaw Cigar and Brewery in North Kansas City. This event featured a lively combination of a silent auction and casino night, providing attendees with an enjoyable evening of bidding, dancing, and delectable food and drinks. Online bidding via mobile devices facilitated participation for everyone, whether at home or at the event.

The second event, "Diamond Soirée Live Auction & Gala," took place on May 6, 2023, commemorating Oakhill's 75th Anniversary. Held at the school itself, the gala celebrated academic excellence in the Northland through a live auction, dinner, and dancing. The Diamond Soirée featured a special walkthrough display showcasing Oakhill's 75-year history, tracing the school's journey from its inception to its future and adding a meaningful touch to the celebration. Both events collectively raised over $200,000.00. Additionally, $12,000.00 was also raised for new non-fiction books for the library and $101,000.00 for the jumbotron fund-a-need project. A heartfelt thank you goes to our sponsors, whose generosity played a crucial role in bringing these events to life. We are deeply appreciative of the donors who provided items for auction, adding excitement and value to the fundraising efforts. To the event participants—whether alumni, community members, or prospective families—your presence and engagement created a vibrant atmosphere, fostering a sense of community and shared celebration. Special appreciation goes to the parents who lent their time and enthusiasm, being the driving force behind the events' success. Their commitment to Oakhill's community spirit and dedication to creating memorable experiences for all attendees have left a lasting impact. Gratitude is also extended to the staff members whose tireless efforts and dedication ensured the smooth running of the events, reflecting the true essence of teamwork and collaboration that defines Oakhill Day School's strong sense of community. Thank you for going above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of our students and the success of our school's initiatives. The auction was not only financially fruitful but also a joyous get-together, making it a remarkable and memorable success for the Oakhill community.

2022-2023 Acorn Day Celebration In the academic year 2022-2023, Oakhill Day School's Acorn Day Celebration emerged as a multifaceted event, seamlessly blending fundraising endeavors with milestone commemorations. The primary focus was on enhancing the campus's visual appeal, and the community rallied to contribute, generating funds that were specifically allocated for the acquisition of a striking new monument sign. This addition now adorns the Main Campus Building, serving as a testament to the collective commitment to beautifying the educational environment. Beyond the financial success, Acorn Day holds a distinctive role as the inaugural celebration in a series dedicated to acknowledging significant academic transitions. A dual-purpose affair, the event not only cultivates a sense of community through fundraising but also honors students in Kindergarten, 8th grade, and 12th grade who are navigating important milestones of growth, achievement, and progression in their academic journey. The festivities encapsulated the spirit of community engagement, with students, parents, and faculty coming together to celebrate not just the material enhancements to the campus but the intangible milestones achieved by the students. Acorn Day has thus evolved into a cherished tradition, embodying the ethos of collective support, growth, and the perpetual pursuit of excellence at Oakhill Day School. 2022-2023 Acorn Day Donors Chris and Dorothy Beckham Larry and Sharon Blount Nico and Jennifer Brogoto Sharon Brown Larry and Sharon Chambers Dave and Sandra Clarkson Quentin and Dena Cole Kendall and Leecil Culbertson Ron and Sandy Diven

The Helen Wills Golf Tournament is a beautiful tribute to a beloved teacher and a successful fundraiser for Oakhill Day School. This event, held annually, helps to raise important funds that support the school's programs and initiatives while also honoring the legacy of a cherished member of the Oakhill community. Staley Farms Golf Club hosted an amazing day on the green for over 30 teams ready to spend the day golfing for the students of Oakhill. With this annual tournament moving to the fall, we hope you make plans to join us on Setpmber 30, 2024 at The Deuce to celebrate our beloved Helen Wills.
The volunteer golf tournament committee plays a crucial role in the success of the event by organizing and managing various aspects, including logistics, promotion, fundraising, and participant experience. We would not be able to host this successful event without our dedicated crew of golf tournament volunteers who not only love the game of golf, but the students of Oakhill Day School.

In Memoriam Helen Jean Wills, a cherished educator with over 50 years of dedication, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at the age of 91. Her illustrious career at Oakhill Day School spanned 31 years, where she imparted wisdom and values to over a thousand students. Despite retiring in 2016, Helen remained Oakhill's official provider of wisdom, maintaining a strong presence at the school until 2020. Known for her loving strictness, Helen's impact on her students was profound, as reflected in the numerous cards and letters received after her passing expressing gratitude. The annual Helen Wills Golf Tournament, approaching it’s fourth year, continues to raise funds for Oakhill in her honor. Helen's passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, evident in her 50-year involvement with Chapter JC, P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization. Her love for family, friends, and community was immense. Helen's life was celebrated on July 15th at North Cross United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Oakhill Day School and Ascend Health Hospice were made as a show of Helen’s dedication to education and to honor the loving care she received in her final days. Thank you to those donors who made gifts to the Mighty Oak Fund to ensure that Helen’s legacy will endure in the Oakhill spirit for generations to come.
