Oakhill Day School: Roots

2022-2023

Roots of Legacy: Oakhill's Alumni Connection Dear Oakhill Community, When we talk about the "roots" of why Oakhill is such a special place to grow and learn, I reflect on a segment of the Oakhill population closest to my heart–our Oakhill alumni crew. It seems like just yesterday I was in the classroom with many of them, and now they are out in the world, leading, creating, and leaving behind a legacy of success. They're not just a bunch of grads; they're living proof that an Oakhill education leaves a lasting mark. Your support as donors helps us keep those connections strong. And for that, we thank you! At Oakhill Day School, we're all about creating a space where students feel challenged, known, valued, and inspired to be their best. Your support enables us to fulfill this mission and ensures that our graduates take the knowledge and leadership skills gained at Oakhill to push their limits and find success. Oakhill's Portrait of a Graduate is our guiding beacon, encapsulating the qualities we strive to instill in each student. Our graduates emerge service-minded and community-oriented, adaptive and flexible, understanding the importance of balance. They seize opportunities confidently, are critical thinkers, polite and kind, self-aware, and possess a strong foundation, always striving to be their best selves. Alumni giving holds a unique significance at Oakhill, where many of our graduates, having ventured off to high school and college, find a powerful connection to their roots by becoming a member of the Kalsu Society of Friends, honoring the legacy of Oakhill's founder, Wanda Lee Kalsu. Despite the diverse paths they've explored, remembering their foundational years at Oakhill becomes a compelling touchstone. It's not just about giving back; it's about recognizing the enduring impact of where their educational journey began. Alumni giving ensures the foundation laid from early childhood to middle school, and as we look hopeful for the future of upper school at Oakhill, it remains vibrant, enabling current and future students to experience the transformative education that shaped our alumni's early years. It's a testament to the lasting influence of Oakhill, urging alums to be active contributors in preserving the legacy that set them on their individual paths to success. With heartfelt gratitude,

Maggie Newhouse
