This course provides a basic introduction to the study of music, including the music industry, performance, music theory knowledge and music production using technology.
What do I need? Three GCSEs at Grade 3/D and above.
What will I learn? l Listening skills l Exploring music composition l Contextual research for music performance and production l Music performance skills and practice l Music production skills and practice l Music performance and production project
What can I do next? Successful completion could lead to progression onto the Level 3 Diploma in Music Performance or Production.
Our music suites feature industry standard hardware and software including Pro Tools and Logic and you will have the chance to produce professional standard recordings of your work in our studios.

The music performance pathway consists of an exciting range of performance, composition, theoretical and contextual units that provide you with valuable experiences while you develop industry relevant skills and abilities.
What do I need? Four GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths, or a Level 2 Diploma in Music. You will also be required to audition on your first instrument.
What will I learn? You will develop your skills in l Performance l Composition l Music theory l Communication l Artistic direction
You will spend time preparing materials and rehearsing both individually and as a member of a group.
What can I do next? You could progress onto degree-level studies or seek employment in a field related to the music industry. The music production pathway consists of an exciting range of production, recording, theoretical and contextual units using industry standard music software such as Pro Tools and Logic.
What do I need? Four GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths, or a Level 2 Diploma in Music. Some previous knowledge or experience of music technology is beneficial.
What will I learn? You will develop your skills in: l Recording l Mixing l Composition l Sampling - sound creation and manipulation
What can I do next? You could progress onto degree-level studies or seek employment in a field related to the music industry.
