Message from Oasis Founder I began Oasis in 1985 with a vision to build inclusive communities, where everyone has hope, feels they matter and is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Oasis’ first project, No. 3, which I set up with my wife Cornelia, was a hostel for young homeless people in Peckham, South London. However, it was always my aim that one day Oasis would not only run housing projects but other services including youth programmes, schools and hospitals. I grew up in South London and, as a teenager got involved in a local youth club where I learnt many life lessons, which inspired and equipped me to establish Oasis; including one about overcoming unrequited love! At the youth club – held in a church hall – I met a girl who I fell madly in love with, sadly, I quickly realised that at the age of 15 she wasn’t interested in a 14 year old boy like me. Despite this setback I came to realise that my life still had purpose. The greatest lesson I had learnt from the youth club was, that every person matters; everyone is made in the image of God and should be valued and included. And so, Oasis’ mission was born: to ensure that people and whole communities are offered the support, education and spectrum of opportunity that they deserve in order to reach their God-given potential. More than that, we know that individuals can only truly thrive when their community flourishes around them, so we work in ‘community hubs’ to provide a range of integrated and high quality services that support people holistically; educationally, physically, socially, spiritually, emotionally, economically and environmentally. Oasis has developed into a movement of many thousands of people,
working in ten countries around the world, who are all committed to this goal. Our first three Oasis Academies opened in 2007, the beginnings of a national network which has now developed into a substantial family of primary, secondary and allthrough schools. Each Oasis Academy aims to serve the needs of its local community in a unique way, whilst sharing our ethos and holistic approach to education. That’s why Oasis Academy Lister Park seeks to provide a welcoming environment for students of all faiths and none and for their parents and carers. Education is never just about what happens during the formal school day. We seek to provide a rich and balanced environment for all our students to develop into informed and active learners who can explore questions, seek answers and solve problems. Our hope is that Oasis students will become people who care passionately about their learning, their neighbours, their communities and their planet. Here in the UK, Oasis also provides higher education at undergraduate and post-graduate levels through Oasis College in central London. We also run a global anti-human trafficking campaign, Stop the Traffik, which partners with the UN and others worldwide, to raise awareness of human trafficking. We at Oasis are passionate about the potential of each and every person and look forward to the joy of journeying with you and your child over the coming years. Learning – Curriculum At Oasis Academy Lister Park we offer a flexible and relevant curriculum which is designed to enable every student to achieve their personal best. We believe that all of our students are capable of experiencing remarkable success when given the right conditions to succeed. We expect every student to make positive progress throughout their time at the Academy regardless of their individual challenges or their starting point on entry. The Academy monitors every student’s progress closely. We know that today’s young people need to leave the Academy equipped with the knowledge and skills, but also the resilience and perspective to respond to the challenges of life in the 21st century.
Key Stage 3 Years 7 We group our students closely to their learning needs to ensure they get the exact support they need to make rapid progress. Personalised programmes are created so students have a smooth transition from KS2. In the morning students study the core subjects Maths, Science and English and foundation subjects; French, Technology and Physical Education. History, Geography, Art, Music, Drama, ICT, RE, and PSCHE are combined to form an innovative programme in Year 7 where students spend afternoons in their tutor bases taking part in themed projects. Some students will access ‘Ready to Learn’ two afternoons a week to help with reading, writing and numeracy. All students concentrate in developing the four vital skills they need to access the curriculum at secondary school: communication, collaboration, independence and thinking skills. Year 8 & 9 Students follow a broad and balanced curriculum that consists of English, Maths, Science, Design Technology, History, Geography, ICT, Drama, Art, Music, RE, Physical Education and Personal Development. Literacy support
is available in the form of Learning Development for those students who need it while other students take French or Urdu. Students participate in exciting cross-curricular projects which help them to learn how to transfer the skills they have learned.
Key Stage 4 English, Maths and Science remain compulsory and all pupils continue to be taught RE, PSCHE, and Physical Education. Students can choose from a wide range of GCSE and BTEC qualifications. This includes the English Baccalaureate combination of qualifications for those who wish to study an academic curriculum KS4. We also have a varied and enriched curriculum for students of a lower ability and those with Additional Educational Needs.
Key Stage 5 The courses offered at Post 16 allow students of all abilities to progress into further education and the work place. We offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses to suit students of all needs.

Learning – Pastoral organisation We expect much from our students in terms of personal standards, discipline and attitude. In return we offer students an environment where they feel safe, secure and valued. We know that our young people will face many challenges during their time at the Academy, and we believe that our pastoral system provides excellent 360 degrees of care, guidance and support. The Academy‘s pastoral structure is organised through Year Groups. Each Year is led by an Achievement Leader who is responsible for ensuring that every student in their care is happy and enjoying learning, but also being supported and challenged to exceed their potential. Achievement leaders track each student’s progress across

all of their subjects and they are the first point of contact for parents and carers. Achievement leaders are supported by a team of tutors. Each student is assigned to a tutor group, and they will normally stay in that group from Year 7 to Year 11. Tutors meet with students on a daily basis, and they are responsible for supporting and maximising the learning of each individual in their care. During tutor time there is a focus on emotional and spiritual development. Tutors help the young people in their care to develop their social, moral and spiritual outlook and this is further reinforced through a weekly Assembly programme.

Community – Living and learning together Community vision The vision of the Academy is to create both an outstanding school and also a community hub. The aim is for local residents to be able to access a range of services, adult learning programmes, healthy living advice and activities, sports facilities and out-of-hours youth activities. This is an Academy that serves the community, and the community is increasingly proud of us. Oasis believes that it has a duty to respect the environment through a commitment to sustainability and bio-diversity.
Healthy Living Across the Academy there is an ethos of balanced, healthy lifestyles which is demonstrated through policies regarding Academy meals and ecological building design. We encourage students and staff to be aware of their health

and well-being, to consider what they eat and drink and support involvement in physical activity and sport.
A full extended Academy All Oasis Academies offer opportunities for extended learning beyond the core Academy day. Our Extended Services Provision is at the centre of our community work. The team deliver a wide range of services which engage public, voluntary and business sectors in the establishment of a centre of education and lifelong learning. We aspire for the Academy to be at the heart of our local community, recognised by others for our clear understanding and support of local issues and awareness of community needs.

Admissions Oasis Academy Lister Park is a non-selective Academy open to students of all religious faiths and those of no faith. If you are a parent or carer of a child in Year 6 and wish to apply for a place at Oasis Academy Lister Park for the following September you will need to complete the common application form and return it to the admissions section at Bradford Metropolitan District Council. If you are seeking a place in any other year group, or for a Year 7 place post September, you must contact the Academy directly.
How places will be allocated at Oasis Academy Lister Park: Where the number of applications for admission is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. After the admission of students with Statements of Special Educational Needs where the Academy is named on the Statement, the criteria will be applied in the order in which they are set out below: 1. Children in public care (Looked after Children) at the time of application. (see below) [Note 1] Looked after children are defined as children in public care at the date on which the application is made. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order, immediately after being looked after. If an application is made under the ‘looked after’ criterion, it must be supported by a letter from the relevant Local Authority Children’s Services Department. (If applying under the previously looked after criterion a copy of the adoption or special guardianship order must also be supplied.) 2. Children who have specific medical and/or special needs where the application is supported by written specific professional advice as to why admission to the Academy is necessary. The definition as to what constitutes medical and special needs within

the scope of this provision will be agreed by Oasis Community learning and available from the Academy. 3. Admission of students whose siblings currently attend the Academy and will continue to do so on the date of admission. The term ‘sibling’ means a full, step, half, adopted or fostered brother or sister, or other child living permanently within the same household. The Academy reserves the right to ask for proof of relationship. 4. Admissions of students on the basis of proximity to the Academy using straight line measurement from the main entrance of the Academy to the main entrance to the child’s home. Places are allocated on a geographical basis to children who live nearest to the Academy. The child’s permanent home address is where she or he normally lives and sleeps and goes to school from. Proof of residence – such as council tax or utility bill can be requested at any time throughout the admissions process. If false or misleading information is used to gain entry to the Academy, the offer of a place may be withdrawn.
there is no difference in distance from home to school for two or more children, random allocation will be used to allocate the final available place(s) and to establish priority on the waiting list. Please note There is an appeals process and all Oasis Academies follow the nationally agreed guidance for admissions appeals. Post-16 admissions criteria The Academy will publish specific criteria in relation to minimum academic entrance requirements for admission to Post -16 provision, in the Sixth Form prospectus.

Absence rates We collect and analyse absence data on a weekly basis and the results are available from the Academy. Both attendance and punctuality are a priority for the Academy. The links between attendance and achievement and attainment are irrefutable.
Equalities Our Commitment to Equality Equality and inclusion are at the heart of Oasis. We have a passion to include everyone and a deep desire to treat everyone equally. We accept others for who they are and respect differences. Our aim is to provide an excellent education for all our students. Our way of doing this is to work hard to improve students’ attainment and the standards of teaching and learning continually. At the same time, we also aim to meet the needs of the whole person and the whole community because we understand that the whole of life is education and that everyone who is part of a student’s life affects that student’s understanding of life and, therefore, his or her education. In this sense, every person matters. Inclusion and Access Oasis’ ethos is based on an overarching theme of inclusion; of welcoming, encouraging and enabling all to achieve their best whatever the challenges may be in doing so. The Academy’s aim is to ensure that all its students
achieve their full potential, according to their needs. If a student has special educational needs (SEN), the Academy will take every reasonable step to identify and meet them. Further information on the policy and provision for SEN can be obtained from the Academy. Students with SEN who do not have statements of special educational needs will be admitted on an equal basis with others in accordance with the Academy’s admissions policy. Where a student has a statement and the Local Authority is proposing to name the Academy in the statement, the Academy will agree to the student’s admission. The only reason for not doing so is if the inclusion of that student would be incompatible with the education of other children and there are no reasonable steps the Academy could take to resolve this. If there is a disagreement between the Academy and the Local Authority on the placement of a student, there is a voluntary dispute resolution service backed up by the Secretary of State’s power to intervene. In the last resort parents can appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SENDIST) Tribunal. The Academy has designated special provision for Speech and Language.

Facilities and letting information Community Facilities
Drama Studio
Our outstanding Academy building has impressive facilities and resources which have been designed to be utilised by not only students and staff, but the whole community. We welcome families, local residents, community activities and local businesses to share our newly decorated facilities and take full advantage of what the Academy has to offer.
With a fully fitted sprung dance floor our drama studio is perfect for rehearsals, auditions and classes. Retractable bleacher seating is suitable for groups of around 60 people and with coloured lighting, black drapes and a mirrored wall, it creates the perfect ambience for many an occasion.
Sports Hall
Oasis Academy Lister Park has a large grass area available for use; two football pitches, a 200m athletics track and a cricket pavilion makes it ideal for Sports Days, football clubs and tournaments to name but a few.
The Sports Hall can host a multitude of sports including basketball, badminton and netball courts, five-a-side football, cricket nets and much more.
Main Hall Our Hall is a light and airy space available to be used for festivals, conferences and training courses etc. The area seats around 250-300 people with access to a projection screen, spotlights and PA system.
