A Historic, Five-Star Berkshire Destination Is Reimagined Blantyre’s story begins in 1902, when a Gatsby-like millionaire, Robert Paterson, built a grand summer mansion on a sprawling estate outside Lenox, Massachusetts, modeling it after his mother’s ancestral estate, Blantyre, in Scotland. This spring saw the beginning of a bright, new chapter. The property has been lovingly restored following a multimillion-dollar renovation. From the outside, Blantyre still looks as if it had been uprooted from a Scottish glen, with ivy-clad brick, slate-roofed turrets and manicured lawns. But on the inside, its timeless charm and historic architecture mix seamlessly with modern luxuries, fine craftsmanship and chic décor incorporating rich velvets and pops of color. Altogether there are eight suites in the Main House, eleven Carriage House Suites, and four spacious Cottages. Close to the main house, an intimate spa named The Retreat now provides highly personalized and pampering experiences.

The Blantyre Bistro serves classic dishes made from the freshest locally sourced ingredients in a lively French bistro setting. The Conservatory is the hotel’s fine dining restaurant with an outdoor dining terrace overlooking flowing lawns. Both restaurants draw from one of the most expansive wine cellars in New England with more than 10,000 bottles and a private tasting room. Furthering Blantyre’s reputation as a foodie destination, the resort has an ongoing program of foodfocused events throughout the year.

NEW YEAR’S EVE GALA December 31, 2017

When not enjoying the pleasures of the hotel itself, guests can enjoy the tranquil natural setting, playing tennis or croquet, hiking or lounging by the outdoor

swimming pool. In the summer months music lovers can take full advantage of nearby Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The Norman Rockwell Museum, the MassachusettsMu seum of Contemporary Art (MASSMoCA) and the Museum of the Gilded Age are just some of the nearby cultural attractions. Each subsequent season brings a different set of activities. For more information, visit www.Blantyre.com.

Art Adventures—Outside the Frame Art—and art education—is an essential part of the guest experience at Ocean House. Our expanded programming now includes exciting new events, private lessons and a revamped Artist in Residence program. If you are a regular visitor to Ocean House you may be familiar with the magnificent works of art displayed throughout the hotel. In addition to our permanent Jeanne Potter, Resident Curator and Director of Art Education at Ocean House collection, the property hosts year-round exhibitions of paintings for sale by leading contemporary artists from major galleries in the region, including the Lily Pad Gallery, the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport, and the J. Russell Jinishian collection of marine art. “Art is such an exciting and important part of the Ocean House experience,” says Jeanne Potter, Resident Curator and Director of Art Education at Ocean House. BLACK AND WHITE MASQUERADE BALL February 24, 2018

Among the masterworks in the Royce collection on view at Ocean House are pieces by renowned artist Ludwig Bemelmans, including his original illustrations from Bemelmans’ famous Madeline children’s book series. In the member’s Club Room one can find a collection of self-portraits of famous artists, writers and celebrities, from illustrators David Levine and Maurice Sendak to writer Truman Capote. Potter, who joined the Ocean House team in January 2016, is leading the charge to deliver expanded programming for guests and locals alike, including private tours and lessons. New this year are our “Cork & Canvas” events, where participants are expertly guided to create an original painting to take home while sampling local fine wines and gourmet cheeses. Also new is the expansion of the resort’s Artist in Residence program. It will include award-winning artists painting on the grounds of the resort capturing the scenic landscapes that Ocean House provides, as well as artisans and master craftspeople demonstrating their artistry and conducting workshops at the historic Schoolhouse adjacent to the hotel, now known as the “Artists’ Cottage.” “Our goal is to expand upon the fine art experience and continue to delight and educate our guests and members of the community through the joy of art appreciation,“ Potter says.
