Letter from the Editor I’m a summer baby born and bred, but it seems that October is really my time of year. As I come down off the euphoria of Miami Carnival (big shout out to Generation X and the entire Miami Carnival Massive!), it helps that our very own OCEAN Style FashionShowcase Weekend is right around the corner. Every year I get totally stoked about seeing old friends, making new ones, going out and dancing at some of the hippest venues in Montego Bay while basking in the warmth of Jamaica. I hope you all plan to be dressed to the nines because I’ll be on the lookout to see what everyone else is wearing at the White Party at historic Rose Hall, and the namesake headlining event, FashionShowcase, which is back at the Montego Bay Convention Center this year. This is a fashion and party lovers dream weekend! One of my favorite memories of FashionShowcase Weekend was in 2013 when, after the official after party on Saturday night with guest DJ Mc Lyte ended, Anthony Anderson got about 20 of us together to go out for one last night on the town because we just couldn’t stop dancing and didn’t want the night to end. I remember the moment we walked into Margaritaville , as if on cue, to Rihanna’s “Pour it Up,” – it seemed to magically set the mood for the rest of the night. Anthony and Verron Haynes commandeered the little stage up front and bought bottles to pour shots into the mouths of patrons who had lined up in front of the little area that we had taken over. And we partied, well, like rock stars! This year, we are welcoming new guests actress/DJ Nicole Lyn, actor Brian White and model/rapper Don Benjamin. And we are welcoming back model/TV personality Nicole Murphy and actor/comedian Flex Alexander, among others. There’s plenty rum, fun in the sun and, of course, our Celebrity Golf Invitational, for those of you that love to tee off on some of the most scenic courses in the entire Caribbean. We also have the great privilege of honoring a in Caribbean Fashion, Kingsley Cooper, a man who has singlehandedly raised the global profile of the Caribbean fashion industry since launching Caribbean Fashion Week back in 2001. He is our 2015 recipient of the OCEAN Style Magazine Fashion Icon Award. In this issue, we’ll take a look back at FashionShowcases past, chat it up with Nicole Lyn, take a brief diversion to Turks & Caicos, visit a charming breakfast spot in Old San Juan, and get some pointers for living it up in Cancun on a budget (for all the moguls in the making), just to name a few of the stories we have put together for you. As always, on behalf of the entire OCEAN Style Media team, we do hope to see you in Montego Bay October 29-31! So come dive into this edition of Splash! Let’s get wet!

COFFEE SHOP WITH

THE DYNAMIC NICOLE LYN 6 OCEAN Style

oceanstylemagazine.com

For this edition of Coffee Shop, we caught up with the insanely beautiful Nicole Lyn, a/k/a Miss Nix, and quintessential DJ and spin goddess! Formerly the star of the Canadian teen TV series Student Bodies, you may have also seen Nicole make guest appearances in My Secret Identity, The West Wing, Half & Half and Psych to name a few. And perhaps you also remember her bewitching Jamaican lilt in the silver screen hit Deliver Us From Eva. We’ll talk Ontario eateries, beach snobbery and dream rom-com co-stars, among other things. Nicole will be joining us for the OCEAN Style FashionShowcase Weekend for the first time this year and we can’t wait to meet her in person! We’re very excited to have you as a guest at Fashion Showcase Weekend. How did you first hear about our event? Friends who have participated in the past have always had a great time. I’ve known of the event for a few years now, mainly through all the positive word of mouth. I read that both your parents are Jamaican. When was the last time you came down to visit and how often do you come? I visit often, usually at least twice a year. I wasn’t born here, but have always considered Jamaica as much home as anywhere else I feel attached to. I also attended high school in Mandeville, so I lived here during a very impressionable time in my life. What’s the one thing you must do or place you must visit when you’re in Jamaica? I’m a beach snob, and not ashamed of it. What’s available to me at home in the states - even Miami - just doesn’t cut it once you’ve been spoiled by Jamaica. 7 Mile Beach, Frenchman’s Cove, Reggae Beach, and Doctor’s Cave are my favorites. For something super chill and off the beaten path, I go to Idler’s Rest in Black River. In addition to being a guest, you’re also deejaying one of our parties. Which came first, acting or spinning the tunes? I started acting when I was seven years old. Deejaying was an unexpected, happy accident as far as a career path. Deejaying is still a predominantly male industry. What drew you to it? It was never an ambition to pursue deejaying. It was a hobby that just took on a life of it’s own, really. Being female in this industry and culture was never a drawback for me, I think in part because when I started, I was simply doing it for the love and creative outlet it afforded me. When you’re not playing a set for a party, what kind of music do you listen to? Literally, everything. Whatever I can get my hands on. Music genres are blurring and oceanstylemagazine.com

expanding now anyway, which I think is a really beautiful thing. When I’m in the mood for something familiar and feel good, it’s usually anything ‘90s!

you choose - mascara or lipstick? Mascara. Lipstick can be hit or miss on an otherwise bare face. And the eyes say it all, as they say.

What song is on repeat in your playlist these days? I’m obsessed with The Internet’s album Ego Death. Also loving Gallant’s track Weight In Gold. Vince Staple’s Summertime ‘06, Bryson Tiller’s TRAPSOUL and a lot of classic hip-hop instrumentals are also in heavy rotation.

Moet or Veuve Clicquot? Err..I’d fail a blind taste test every time. Don’t judge me!

If you could have any artist play at your next big birthday bash, who would it be? Dead or alive? Bob Marley. If I’m limited to more “realistic” options...Prince. So you’re from Ontario. What are some great places in Toronto that you would recommend to our readers looking for great Caribbean cuisine? Rasta Pasta in Kensington is good. Speaking of which, what’s your favorite Jamaican dish? All of them, except mannish water. Since we’re thinking of Canada, one of the items on many a Caribbean culture lovers bucket list is to go to Carnival in Toronto. Have you ever played Mas at Caribana? I grew up going to the parade every summer, but I’ve actually never played mas at Caribana, only in Jamaica carnival. Complete segue but... you’re gorgeous! Let’s talk beauty. If you were forced to leave the house and could only choose one, which would

Prince or Michael Jackson? Impossible choice. Winter or Summer? Always and forever Summer. Straight or curly? Today, I’m saying curly. Brazil or Thailand? Another tough one. Gonna go with Brazil. If you could star in the remake of any film, who would be your dream character to play? Sally Bowles in Cabaret. And if you were starring in a rom-com and could cast your own leading man, who would you choose? Kevin Hart is as fun and funny as they come. Who wouldn’t want to go to work and laugh their butt off all day every day? What’s on the horizon for you? Where should our readers look for you next? Sometimes I don’t even know where to look for me! Things move so fast, but I try to let people know what I’m up to and where to catch me on my site ms-nix.com, or via social media, @ ms_nix.

STROB Any fashionista worth her salt knows that special events require getting
“snatched” (dressed to kill) and getting your face beat back for the gods (perfect makeup application). Contouring seems to be on everyone’s lips when one thinks of achieving a flawless face. And whether you love them or would rather shove them, the Kardashians have made a name for themselves because their makeup game is on point. However, if you’re not a celebrity and don’t have a stylist and make up artist at your beck and call, putting together that immaculate

8 OCEAN Style

look might feel daunting. Sure, you can spend countless hours trying to emulate the skills in the various makeup tutorials on YouTube, or even try to recreate that look that you sat in the chair painstakingly for without moving a muscle at your local department store or Sephora, but that’s an awful lot of pressure for a night out. But have no fear, there’s an easier way to ensure that your Instagram pics turn out to be stunning without resorting to various filters and camera trick wizardry and it’s called “strobing.”

Strobing is similar to contouring in that it plays with the use of light (in this case, a subtle shimmer) to highlight certain features creating a dewy, youthful look. This works well because the reflective qualities of light gives the skin a glow that helps to hide other imperfections and it works well in photos. While contouring gives the visage a sculpted look, strobing renders a youthful look to the skin with much less artistry (there’s a whole lot less blending needed to strobe!). But here’s what you should know if you’re thinking of giving strobing a try:

oceanstylemagazine.com

BING •

• • •

As with any makeup application, start with a well hydrated base. Slough off dead layers of skin with a mild exfoliant, and moisturize with a water-based cream or lotion of your choosing.
Pick a shimmer that is either universal or formulated for your complexion. This will be much easier than picking a foundation because there are only a few basic color groups for this.
Use in moderation. Unless you want to end up looking like you are related to Edward Cullen from the Twilight movies, don’t go overboard with highlighting cream. It’s best to use highlighter where the sun would naturally hit your face (bridge of nose, cheekbones, along the forehead) and in strategic areas like the inner corner of the eye and right above the cupid’s bow of your lips to make them pop! The rest of your makeup should be matte.
Stay away from frosted lips and eyes!
Use a powder highlighter for oilier skin types and a cream strobing formulation for drier
skin.
Always examine your makeup in interior and natural light. What might look fierce in
your bathroom light, might seem a tad frightful in a different light, especially outdoors.
Move about and examine your makeup in different lighting at varying angles.
Know your environment! A dewy look is actually best for a controlled temperature
environment, so if you are already going to be somewhere that may be hot and humid, strobing might end up making you look more sweaty. A better investment might be waterproof makeup in that case.
Experiment with your look. Some makeup artists use a primer with built-in reflective properties before they apply their foundation and then strobe certain areas. Others strobe after applying foundation. Everyone is different. See what works best for you.

CANCUN for $1,000

Cancun is a popular tourist destination where travelers can find excitement without spending a fortune. Even after having so many visitors, the city still has some of the best entertainment and lodging options at a fair price. Just be sure to properly convert your currency, and don’t forget the sunscreen.

TAKE A WHALE SHARK TOUR. Taking a trip underwater is an unforgettable experience and a Whale Shark tour will not disappoint. Experts lead the way as you swim or snorkel in the beautiful waters that Cancun is known for. Spend time with whales in their natural environment and take in the sights of these splendid creatures in action for a minimum of $160. After enjoying these activities, budget travelers will have spent $791.98. Add to that, the cost of fees and daily necessities, and you may find yourself with enough cash left to spend at shopping centers and the Parque. If not, they are still places you can visit without spending any money at all.

STAY AT THE BEACHSCAPE KEN HA. Beachscape Ken Ha Villas and Suites are in a desirable location with excellent service and many amenities for the price. Placed within a beautiful beach setting, you can stay here for around $75 per night. In many cases, Cancun visitors stay at least three nights at a final price of roughly $225.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CUNCRAWL. Cuncrawl is a top-notch service that will pave the way to a perfect party experience at an affordable rate of $159.98 for two people when booked online. Cancun is revered for its nightlife. By using Cuncrawl, tourists can visit three of the best spots throughout the course of a night with the additional conveniences of deals on drinks, reserved tables, and VIP treatment. Just as safe as it is affordable, lone travelers or large groups can enjoy the benefits.

EAT AT THE BLACK HOLE. For about 950 pesos ($60 USD), you can have a memorable experience at the Black Hole restaurant at the Grand Oasis Sens. An intimately arranged establishment for couples and small parties, this unique dining experience is the talk of the town for anyone who takes part. Guests should wear dark colors and must eat in the dark, enabling everyone to better enjoy the taste of their food. Combining great food with interactive performers makes the Black Hole a top restaurant in Cancun, and it is well worth making a reservation in advance because locals and tourists love the experience here.

EXPLORE THE MAYAN RUINS. The grounds of the Mayan Ruins is an archaeological treasure, filled with artifacts and palaces over one thousand years old. Standing the test of time, the area remains in marvelous condition. Located in the Yucatan Peninsula, the experience at the Ruins is both thrilling and educational as visitors learn more about the Mayan culture and history. In Tulum, this adventure can be booked for at least $110.

HANG OUT AT THE PARQUE DE LAS PALAPAS. Translated to mean the Park of the Palapas, this area is well respected among the locals. Much money isn’t needed here because of the free weekend shows and art on display. Enjoy the cultural significance of the Parque and grab a quick bite from your vendor of choice. Historically similar to Mercado 23, the Parque de las Palapas was the original town square.

CHECK OUT LA ISLA SHOPPING VILLAGE. Spend freely based on your budget here. With diverse choices ranging from movies to souvenir stores, the La Isla Shopping Village is noted as one of the most attractive malls, well worthy of a visit. Several restaurants are positioned at the waterfront and children are often seen frolicking in the fountain where the water comes from underground. This scenic area is a major destination for shoppers who like a mix of an open atmosphere with entertainment attractions. Safety should always be first when traveling, so being aware of your environment and making sound decisions is always important. A common piece of advice is to drink bottled water and not to mix it with local ice. Also, crime is no stranger to Cancun, and you wouldn’t want to get your sombrero stolen or find yourself lost in unfamiliar areas.

EXPERIENCE RANCHO BONANZA ON HORSEBACK. Rancho bonanza offers a beautiful tour on horseback for $77 per person for both experienced riders and those who are new to riding a horse. Guides will lead you through beautiful landscapes and sinkholes (that you can swim in if desired). Family and friends can come along, and everyone should keep bug spray on hand for this jungle tour that also makes for a perfect solo trip or romantic adventure.

GO TO MERCADO 23. Mercado 23 is the earliest public market in the city. It’s surrounded by local businesses and residents and maintains its vintage appeal. Reminiscent of a flea market, it offers a variety of affordable produce and goods that can be kept as souvenirs and most vendors have no problem negotiating prices. oceanstylemagazine.com

Trench Town is another spot that adolescents of varying ages can take advantage of with its arcade games and entertainment venues. The Scratch DJ Academy is another ideal choice for young music lovers who want to learn to mix and scratch tracks. In the Xbox Live Lounge, there’s even more state-of-the-art entertainment equipment set up in a bubbly and bright space. While outdoors, professionals can teach the fundamentals of golf at the Junior Golf Club or let children experience scuba diving using special equipment in a safe space of less than 6 feet of water. Then, there is Pirates Island, a different world all its own. With everything from a 1950’s themed diner to chill spots, big water slides, a surfing simulation, and a kids -only swim up bar, young children and teenagers find themselves spending much of their time here. Teens and tweens can also do their own thing at Club Liquid, a trendy meeting place that only allows access to those under the age of 21 during the day. Teens can make friends and share good times here. They can also hang out while listening to the best of Caribbean music in an environment full of striking interior décor and dancing lights. RECONNECT WITH FAMILY MEMBERS. Your family will never forget being in such an exquisite and unique environment, and at Turks and Caicos, there are plenty of family reunion activities. Get everyone together for the Caribbean Adventure Tour to take a break from the well-known tourist attractions and experience treasured moments in the water and on land. A large family portrait session is complimentary and given for 15 minutes to capture the memories, and your family can enjoy differently themed parties and special events. There is distinctive entertainment (including fire eaters and limbo dancers) and food and drinks that will keep everyone in the family happy. Beaches at Turks and Caicos is nothing short of a dream vacation and the lists of featured amenities goes on. Of course, one of the best ways to find out about them is to go see for yourself.

CAFICULTURA

On a recent trip that included a 48 hour jaunt in San Juan, Puerto Rico, my guy and I were wondering what to do for breakfast. We agreed that we didnʼt want to do another lovely, but over-priced breakfast at the Ritz Carlton for relatively standard fare, and were eager to get off the property and begin our day tour of Old San Juan. A few searches on Google turned up some interesting prospects (but how well can you really trust Trip Advisor?). After all, breakfast is one of those meals that people often give short- shrift in their daily lives -- most people give a good rating just because they had time for it at all. Driven by an unrelenting determination to find something out of the ordinary, I armed myself with two of the names of places from my online search and we embarked on our journey, waiting first for the hotel to summon a taxi. But, spidey senses tingling, just as we we were getting into the car, I decided to ask one of the hotel staff, “Where’s a good place for breakfast in Old San Juan.” “Caficultura,” he responded. Not x place, not y place, I asked, but he firmly repeated his selection. “Go there,” he said (in a rather charming local accent). “You will not be disappointed.” 14 OCEAN Style

Now, you should know that I am not always keen on taking the advice of locals because all too often they seem to tell you what they think you want to hear. They will send you to the tourist trap places because they assume that’s where you’ll be most comfortable or that’s what’s popular. But I’ve learned that those aren’t always the best places, particularly for dining. There was, however, something in the insistence of this man’s answer that put aside all doubt. Caficultura, here we come. I can tell you now that I’m so glad that I didn’t listen to my inner cynic. Although, the taxi driver initially misdirected us to where it was located, after asking a few residents on the street near the square where he dropped us off, we found our destination. Caficultura is located next to a few other shops, one which sold mofongo and other breakfast fare for relatively cheap, but the menu at Caficultura featured dishes that were precisely what I was hoping to find. Deciding what to eat was not an easy task with so many delectable sounding menu items to pick from, but their staff was friendly and eager to help and make recommendations. My guy ordered

the french toast with toasted coconut and pineapple marmalade, while I chose the sweet potato crepes stuffed with goat cheese and organic chicken sausage. We dined al fresco, on the sidewalk, watching passersby (cruise ship passengers began to flood the city, which was rapidly coming to life) when our food arrived. At first glance, sweet potato, goat cheese and chicken sausage might seem an unlikely melange of flavors, but drizzled with a little maple syrup, it literally danced on my taste buds -- the perfect contrast of sweet and savory. His french toast was fluffy, sugary goodness, without being cloyingly so, and the coconut shavings added a nice balance to the pineapple. I’m not a rapid eater — well not usually, but before I knew it, I had devoured the food on my plate. We ordered a second plate to share, eggs and home fries, and everything was cooked to perfection, tasty and filling, so we were properly fueled up to begin our walking tour of Old San Juan. If you’re ever in Old San Juan, I highly recommend checking them out! Caficultura is located at 401 Calle San Francisco, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico.

Sometime you just want to get away from the ordinary and the everyday routines. Inside of a gated and luxurious community in St. Thomas, the getaway offers the ultimate in privacy without sacrificing convenience. Through floor plans that are spacious and inviting, lovebirds seeking an escape can be easily 16 OCEAN Style

accommodated here. The living room is filled with plush furniture and a large television so that guests can begin to experience the ultimate home away from home, and there is much more to see inside of the two-story unit. Choosing to prepare intimate meals and dine indoors becomes an elegant experience in the gourmet kitchen that features a granite island and glass cook top. To complement meals and unwind, you can make use of the wet bar and wine fridge. Additionally, the cabinets are showcased in a smooth mahogany finish to properly match the mahogany staircase that leads to the master bedroom.

Inside of the master suite is a lovely four-poster bed that offers an added sense of privacy and comfort in a space that’s meant to be shared, as well as a his and hers bath. When falling out of bed to head to the cozy balcony, take in the mesmerizing views of the harbor and look down to the pool. With palm trees serving as natural dÊcor, the beautiful blue pool is known to be one of the most impressive on the island. To warm things up, a hot tub sits at one end of the pool, while the gazebo, an ideal environment for lover to take stay close outside of the water, sits at the other end. Spectacular views are respected and appreciated indoors and outside of this vacation home. oceanstylemagazine.com

The interior décor is traditional and blends with a clean, modern appeal. There is art with cultural significance on display, and location of the villa atop the hill gives way to sights of Charlotte Amalie, bodies of sparkling waters, and enchanting skies. Always kept in pristine condition by the property caretakers, this community is the perfect place to spoil yourself and the one you love. While Infinity caters to couples, it doesn’t forget about families and friends who also deserve such a grand experience. There is a separate space inside of the master bedroom that has a twin daybed and three complete guest suites are also available. These suites have been architecturally oceanstylemagazine.com

designed and placed for seclusion with unique experiences for occupants. There are arbours and gardens for a scenic and alluring feel, and two of the guest homes are connected bed and bath suites as the singular room sits alone with its own four-poster queen bed, bath, and porch. Much like Infinity Villa, the history of St. Thomas is invaluable. Christopher Columbus is said to have discovered St. Thomas in 1493, but he wasn’t impressed so he left it be. Consequently, the island was left to be manned by pirates and other small groups until the West Danish India Company occupied it under the order of King Christian in 1671. The community was lackluster and sparse, leaving it unable to attract profitable

ventures. This led to the Taphus (beer houses), which has now become the city of Charlotte Amalie that can be seen from the Infinity Villa. Economically, St. Thomas began to thrive through ports and ships and it officially became part of the United States on March 31, 1917. Because of its history, the locals have a respect and appreciation for tourism and several religious and government landmarks can be found here, including the infamous 99 Steps.

LAVENDER OIL Lavender essential oil with its sedating floral fragrance is an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant all in one. Adding a few drops to your bath water invigorates your circulatory system, helping to reduce visible signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines. Its antiseptic properties assist in speeding up the healing of skin scarring and adding some to your everyday moisturizer goes a long way in controlling acne and getting blemish free skin. Inhaling it directly or through diffusion aids in digestion and when rubbed on the temples, it is a great headachereliever. If that weren’t enough, lavender oil helps to keep away insects and is also a natural air freshener. Spray some on your pillow cover and insomnia is a thing of the past.

PEPPERMINT OIL Great for oral hygiene; add a couple of drops of peppermint oil to your toothpaste or mouthwash combats the bacteria causing bad breath. And another wonderful tip? Applying this essential oil to the back of your neck and shoulders in the morning keeps your energy levels up all day as it eliminates fatigue and reduces anger and depression.

TEA TREE OIL Many acne products claim to have tea tree extracts because tea tree oil is renowned worldwide for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The widely held belief that oils will clog our pores needs to be done away with, as essential oils are pure and non-comedogenic. Using a diluted version of this oil on the affected areas will most often bring about rapid results and adding a few drops of tea tree oil to any shampoo assists in the fight against dandruff.

FRANKINCENSE OIL Frankincense Essential Oil can treat almost anything from rashes and burns to arthritis and some studies claim even cancer. When mixed with a carrier like coconut oil, massaging it into the soles of the feet has innumerable health benefits as it goes towards the development of the immune system, improves vision, and opens up a congested chest. Known to reduce anxiety; rubbing a few drops behind your ears and on wrists will aids in reducing stress and users are also encouraged to diffuse it in their rooms as a spray to their mood. With its ant-inflammatory properties, Frankincense can help with arthritis or just joint pains.

A RETROSPECTIVE Now on the cusp of celebrating our eighth year, OCEAN Style Magazine FashionShowcase Weekend started back in 2007 as a vehicle for showcasing Caribbean designers and fashion to a group of industry movers and shakers, celebrities and high society mavens amidst a carefully curated weekend of fashion presentations and exclusive parties. Later, the annual golf tournament was added to the weekend because many of our guests also turned out to be golf enthusiasts. Over the years, the size and reputation of FashionShowcase Weekend has grown to be one of the most heralded events on the Caribbean social calendar as we laud the accomplishments of Caribbean tastemakers and game changers, and our unique brand of sartorial style and innovation.

THE FAS H I O N S H OWCAS E MAIN EVENT Our models have always been fierce, but the fashions are just as bold and beautiful as the femme fatales that strut the catwalk in them. Over the years, we have featured collections from the following designers and brands: Love Moschino by Jeremy Scott, Custo Barcelona, Diane von Furstenberg, Catherine Malandrino and Red Carter Swimwear; Caribbean labels Attitude by Ashley Martin, House of Neahlis by Lisa McIntosh, Drenna Luna, Anya Ayoung-Chee, designer Jose Duran, Meiling and Carlton Jones, and Canadian label Greta Constantine. And of the many stunners who have modeled in our fashion shows, we are very proud to say that former Miss Universe Jamaica 2014, Kaci Fennell (our cover girl), has regularly graced our catwalks the past few years.

D U L C E D E L E C H E RIP THE STRIP Nothing tempts our sweet tooth like our lingerie and swimsuit presentation Dulce de Leche. In earlier years, this event was merged with the All-White Party before the latter reincarnated as Eyes Wide Shut. The previous two years, we took the fashion to the people on the streets of Montego Bay at Old Hospital Park on the “Hip Strip” in our show “Rip the Strip,” which featured live musical performances and was hosted by the effervescent media personality Miss Kitty last year. Urban wear fashions, scintillating swimwear and sexy undergarments shared the same stage, rounded out by pulsating music, a little comedy and an electric vibe that brought our special brand of sizzle to the heart of Mo’Bay. We also included, for the first time, plus sized models and fashion to the lineup much to the delight of the fans who came out to support the event. This year, Dulce de Leche will take place at our sponsoring hotel Secrets All-Inclusive Resort.

“EYES WIDE SHUT” T H E A L L- W H I T E PA R T Y Today known as “Eyes Wide Shut” and held at the venerable Rose Hall Great House, the All-White Party is one of the most anticipated events of the weekend. Dramatically staged against the eerily enchanting landscape of the famous former residence of the White Witch of Rose Hall, Annie Palmer, this all-inclusive event with delicious food, great music and even more beautiful people has been held at various venues since FashionShowcase Weekend’s inception, including the memorable Cay at Sandals, whose exotic and exclusive shores are only accessible by Dragon Boat. Last year at Rose Hall, a stunning runway show was staged at the venue featuring Nicole Murphy.

THE CELEBRITY G O L F I N V I TAT I O N A L Nothing quite brings out the competitive spirit of our guests like the our annual golf invitational. All vying for a shot at the US One Million Dollars Hole-in-One prize, our tournaments bring out golf lovers from all over the world. Past participants have included actor Anthony Anderson, actor/comedian Flex Alexander, actor Omar Benson Miller, NFL Great Eric Dickerson, NFL Super Bowl Champion Verron Haynes, Cricketers Jeffrey Dujon and Courtney Walsh, boxing Champion Lennox Lewis and NBA Legend Julius Erving. Defending champions Team Appleton are the ones to beat, but after playing on two of the most scenic courses in Jamaica--Cinnamon Hill and Tryall--boasting breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea, everyone comes away feeling like a winner!

T H E FAS H I O N I C O N AWA R D H O N O R E E S The OCEAN Style Fashion Icon Award (formerly the Foundation Award) honors those who are titans in the fashion industry, have blazed a trail for others and exemplify the excellence and indomitable spirit of Caribbean talent and innovation. This year we will celebrate the debonair and inimitable visionary founder of Caribbean Fashion Week, Kingsley Cooper, as our OCEAN Style Fashion Icon Award Honoree. Mr. Cooper, a juggernaut in this arena, is credited with singlehandedly putting Caribbean fashion on a global stage and launching the international careers of several models as Executive Chairman of world renowned company Pulse Investments Ltd. Indeed, the debut of Caribbean Fashion Week back in 2001 has changed the game for aspiring designers throughout the region and in the Caribbean Diaspora. Jamaica Observer Senior Associate Editor - Lifestyle Novia McDonald-Whyte received our very first award in 2011, followed by pioneering Fashion Designer Meiling in 2012, Fashion Designer and Executive Producer of Mission Catwalk Keneea Linton-George in 2013 and sartorial guru, Celebrity Fashion Stylist and Creative Director Freddie Leiba in 2014.

This year we welcome newcomers actress/DJ Nicole Lyn, actor Brian White, rapper/model Don Benjamin and look forward to a special guest performance by Mystikal.

BLOODYGOODSTUFF THYNC: HOW GOOD FEELS When you have the power to change the way you feel, it changes everything.” Wearables account for one of the fastest growing tech industries with countless designs emerging to assist users in tracking the number of steps taken and calories consumed. With the appearance of Thync however, wearable technology has entered an entirely new realm with the bold claim that wearing the device for minutes will leave users feeling the effects for hours. A soothing neck massage, a splash of cold water or a kiss from someone you love, these are all common examples of how nerves signal the brain to change the way you feel and Thync purports to works in the same way, using signaling programs appropriately called Vibes. Gizmag reviewer Will Shanklin states, “After using Thync every day for the last week and a half, I’m convinced that it’s one of the most exciting new tech products of 2015. It can push me from an anxious, over-thinking mood to one where I’m cool, collected and laid-back like a THC-infused Rastafarian. And if I’m feeling sluggish or unmotivated, Thync can also peel that layer away, like the sun burning a morning fog off of my consciousness.” Safely and comfortably stimulating nerves on your head and face using low-level, electrical pulses, these nerves in turn signal specific areas of the brain, working in synergy with the mind and body to trigger positive responses you can feel and use.
