6C Transponders

New Technology for Easier Travel at Reduced Cost

The FasTrak transponder used on the 91 Express Lanes allows customers to pay tolls electronically on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California, eliminating the need to stop and pay cash at toll booths.

OCTA continues to distribute new 6C transponders, the transponder protocol adopted by the State of California in 2019. During the past 12 months, the number of transponders in circulation has increased by 265,726.

The 6C transponders are in the form of a sticker and are affixed to the vehicle’s windshield. Unlike the previous version that could be ported from vehicle to vehicle, the new ones stick with specific vehicles.

Because 6C transponders are lighter and less expensive to produce and distribute than traditional versions, the savings are being passed on to customers through simplified account plans.

The roll out continued throughout the pandemic and is expected to be completed next fiscal year so our customers can continue to travel without interruption wherever their needs and desires take them.
