Welcome The summer is well and truly here! What a difference a bit of sunshine makes whether you are enjoying it at home or away over the next few weeks. In this issue we bring you some high summer fashion that will look good on or off the beach as well as some beauty must-haves for this time of year. As for our interiors, we step outside for a spot of al fresco dining and even temp you with a mini burger recipe to try on the BBQ this summer! Katie Price talks about her new fragrance Kissable and tells us that she has found her prince in shape of new husband, Kieran Hayler. The couple are expecting their first child together in
a few weeks, making Katie a mum of four. However, Katie assures us she won’t be slowing down anytime soon. We also get the chance to chat with up and coming singer/songwriter Jason Clarke and give you a few ideas if you still haven’t managed to book that relaxing break away. At home there’s Lough Eske Castle & spa and further afield we recommend taking in the sights and sounds of Cape Town. Have a great summer, Mags Margaret Connolly Editor

2013 World Police & Fire Games
The 2013 World Police and Fire Games will begin on 1st August 2013 with an Opening Ceremony at the King’s Hall complex which will celebrate the diversity of Northern Ireland and showcase local talent in music and dance. Co-ordinated by Belfast City Council in consultation with 2013 WPFG, DCAL and the World Police and Fire Games Federation, the programme will feature the Games’ traditional parade of competing athletes and will also include a moment of reflection for police, fire and
prison officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty since the last Games in 2011. PSNI Deputy Chief Constable, Judith Gillespie, Chair of 2013 WPFG explains, “The Opening Ceremony is the key official event during the Games and sets the tone for the following ten days of competition and comradeship. It not only enables all the athletes to meet fellow colleagues from across the world but also gives the host city the opportunity to offer its own unique welcome to the thousands of competitors
along with their friends and families. We’re delighted too that many of the schools and clubs that have been involved in the WPFG’s school’s legacy programme will also be taking part in the ceremony. It promises to be an impressive start to what is going to be the ‘friendliest’ Games ever.” Access to the Opening Ceremony will be by ticket only. Information about the Games is available at www.2013wpfg.com or follow www.twitter.com/2013wpfg or www.facebook.com/2013wpfg

Get a Summer Ready Body Summer’s on the way but it’s not too late to sculpt your body with a non-invasive procedure that targets those stubborn areas and smooths contours What is ultrasonic cavitation? cavitation is a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. the ultrasound field creates bubbles in the liquid that surround the fat cells, which gradually grow, and implode. as the membranes of fat cells do not have the structural capacity to withstand the vibrations, the effect of cavitation easily breaks them, while sparing the vascular, nervous and muscular tissue.
Does the treatment hurt? ultrasound cavitation lipo is a painless treatment to remove fat cells and reshape the curves of your body. it is a non-invasive and non-surgical approach to style your figure. patients can return to normal day to day activities immediately.
How long does the treatment take and how soon will i see results? each treatment takes 30-
60 minutes and will also include a consultation. often results are visible after the first session but will improve further over the course of six treatments. we will assess the final results after completing your initial bookings. maximum results require at least six to 12 treatment sessions per area depending on size. however, most clients will lose one to three inches after only one treatment. these results are not guaranteed and will depend on the clients’ response to treatment and the area being treated.
Will the effect be longlasting? the fat cells treated with ultrasound cavitation lipo will not return or re-grow, so that is a permanent effect. however, the length of time that the body shaping will last for is really in your hands. how much you eat and how much exercise you take will also affect your long-term
body shape. so if you take in more calories than you use, your weight and fat will increase and the permanent removal of fat cells from your treatment will be hidden by your weight gain.
So how does it work? as the ultrasound passes through the fat cells inside your body it causes the fat inside to change from a semisolid state and to become a liquid. once liquefied, the fat will begin to drain from the cell. the fat then passes through the lymph node system and exits the body through the digestive system in the normal manner. the fat will continue to drain from the body for the next 72 hours. 15 and Precious Love. The fragrance itself has a wonderfully feminine base of vanilla, warm golden amber, sensual musks and sandalwood. I love it!
How involved are you in the creation of your fragrances? Anyone that knows me, knows that I like to be in control, so when it comes to any of my projects I like to be involved in everything from start to finish. I believe that Kissable represents my sense of fun and femininity.
What Katie Did Next Katie Price started life as a glamour model, but a successful businesswoman and mother she has ventured into many different industries over the years. UL caught up with Katie just before the launch of her new fragrance, “Kissable”.
Tell us a bit about your new fragrance. Kissable is my fourth fragrance and I hope that it follows in the successful footsteps of my previous perfumes Stunning, Besotted

interview
Your past relationships and break-ups have been well documented. Are you in a happy place at them moment? Yes I am. I’ve kissed a few frogs but now I think I’ve finally found my prince!
Would you like any more children? Yes, I’d love more babies, but who knows what the future brings.
Would you ever like to design a fragrance for children?
and playful. The eye-catching lipstick-red bottle has a unique lip-shaped lip gloss charm and is meant to reflect my flirty pout! The lip gloss charm contains a glam and girlie tinted gloss, perfect for prettying up your pout.
Who is the most kissable person in your life? Obviously my new husband, Kieran, but I do love kissing Harvey, he’s so cuddly!
You’re expecting your fourth child with Kieran, but you’re obvioulsy not slowing down during your pregnancy. I am really busy over the next few weeks, so I’ve no option but to keep going and the baby will just pop out along the way. With my new book, fragrance and other commitments, I have no choice but to keep working.
You have to be really careful when it comes to cosmetics and fragrances for children. There are so many rules and regulations that need to be adhered to. My daughter, Princess loves wearing my perfume when I allow her but I don’t think I will be designing on solely for children.
Is there anything you haven’t done yet that you might like to do in the future? There’s an endless list of things that I’d like to do, but it’s not as simple as deciding to do something and then it happens, certain projects can take a least 12 months to get off the ground, so it’s a matter of prioritising and ticking them off my to-do list one at a time.

‘Adventure To Africa’
A leading stylist in Northern Ireland, Eve Brannon has a wealth of experience in the industry. Each month she offers a fashion focus into the most coveted designers, trends and styles of the season Season after season we see a commercial interpretation of high summer tribal influences, often with a focus on African design elements. This summer we see a slight directional shift towards the detail in fabrication. Printed canvas, braided jute and beading create an intricately textured aesthetic, paired with an increasingly geometric silhouette; we witness a rejuvenation of the tribal trend as we return to Africa. Gone are the days when ethnic-inspired fashion was reserved for those with ‘bohemian style’. Thanks to designers such as Peter Pilotto and Matthew Williamson inspiration from the African, Indian and Aztec cultures are presented as highly wearable attainable looks on their SS13 catwalks, ensuring we can embrace everything exotic this

summer. This trend paves the way for experimentation in statement colour, print and embellishment, welcoming a cultural element into our holiday wardrobe.

Spa Slueth This month I’m writing about a problem that many of us share and all of us loathe. But I’m not talking about the ever-growing credit card bill, nor the constant struggle to find the perfect pair of jeans; I’m talking about that little bit of bulge that won’t budge! By Cathy Martin Whether it’s a little or a lot; on your tummy or your love handles, and whether you try Atkins or yoga, it’s that annoying little bulky, bumpy bit that refuses to shrink away to a beautiful washboard stomach. But fear not readers, the latest in fat-blasting technology has just hit Belfast - all the way from America - in the form of Cooltec Treatment. This treatment promises to banish your jelly belly for good. Sound too good be true? I went to Therapie Clinic in Donegall Place find out. So, what exactly is it? Well Cooltec is a new noninvasive treatment to eliminate unwanted fat; it uses a machine with “cool sculpting” technology which basically works by using extreme cold to freeze fat cells which are then excreted over a period of six weeks. Up to 20% of body fat can be lost and leaves you with a more defined, shapely
beauty body. It’s been a massive hit in the US and weight-loss experts think it could be the answer to all our body hang-ups. Before you undergo the treatment there are a few things the clinic will tell you do, nothing drastic or scary at all, just a few things that can be done pretty easily. Well, other than saying no to that second slice of chocolate cake. Sigh. What to do before treatment
• Don’t expose your skin to the sun for a week prior to the treatment. • No laser treatment on the area 24 hours before treatment • Don’t apply harsh products or medicated creams to the area for 48 hours before the treatment • Increase your water intake • Reduce your intake of saturated fats So far, so good, no fasting or mad exercise regimes! Now, let’s talk about the treatment itself. Each treatment lasts around 2 hours, depending on the size of the area you are getting frozen, and is relatively painless. Yes, when the applicator is first applied it is a tad uncomfortable but the initial discomfort fades after about three-four minutes and then it is simply a cold feeling. When the machine is removed the skin on the stomach may appear a bit red and irritated but this is to be totally expected and fades after about
37 24-48 hours. You might also get a bit of a numb or ‘pins and needles’ type sensation in the treated area, but again, this will fade with the redness, so nothing scary or painful at all. Plus ladies, if you’ve borne the pain of waxing before, then trust me, this is nothing. You can expect to see minimal results in just 15 days and the full effect can be seen in around 6 six weeks as long as you stick to the post treatment care. As with the pre-treatment care, these are really easy things and nothing difficult at all. What to do after treatment
• Don’t exercise for 24 hours after treatment. (No complaints here!) • Don’t have any laser hair removal treatment done • Again, don’t apply harsh products of medicated creams • Don’t expose your skin to the sun for about a week after treatment • Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day • Reduce the amount of fat in your diet • Start to increase your activity levels Check online and you’ll see that almost all women who have the treatment said they could definitely see a difference Click here to continue this article

no hurry so broke up our journey with a stop for lunch in the picturesque town of Enniskillen. The Lavender Rooms CafĂŠ, at FR Cathcart Home & Garden met us as we entered the town and seemed the perfect place. After a delicious lunch, and some very tempting chocolate brownies, we even picked up some wallpaper for decorating the house, so this stop proved to be a great start to the weekend! Setting off from Belfast after a busy week, I was certainly looking forward to a few days of peace and quiet, but my weekend turned out to be so much more than I had expected. I came back feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world again. The drive from Belfast took around two and a half hours but as we were in
you coming into Donegal Town is spectacular, with the Blue Stack mountains as a dramatic backdrop, and Lough Eske welcoming you as you turn into the rather grand looking driveway of the Castle. Interesting sculptures of dragons and geese lead you all the way to the Tudorbaronial Castle entrance, the earliest bits of which date back

to the 1860s. However, there has been a castle of sorts on the site since as far back as the 1400s. As we later learned, most of these bronze sculptures sprinkled throughout the grounds were created by artists Lloyd Le Blanc and the late Judith Holmes Drewry. The room was perfect. Four poster bed, luxurious bathroom and mini bar, all the elements to make a great weekend. With the grounds and gardens of the castle to explore, lough to walk around and mountains to climb, we couldn’t wait to get outside, however the famous Irish weather was not on our side, and so we resigned ourselves to spend the afternoon in the spa - what a shame! After those chocolate brownies we were feeling a

bit guilty, so hit the gym first. The equipment was great, and although the gym was small we had it all to ourselves. Having punished ourselves enough we spent the rest of the afternoon in the very luxurious spa, which had panoramic views out over the fabulous gardens, I was confident I would be spending a lot of my weekend here! Dinner was also a relaxed
affair, a theme this weekend was taking on quite well! We enjoyed a drink in the Gallery Bar, which had an extensive cocktail menu, and of course it would have been rude not to sample one or two! The Cedars Grill Restaurant could be described as encompassing 1920s elegance with a modern twist, with floor to ceiling button-back upholstery and crystal light fittings. The waiters were courteous and knowledgeable about the food and were able to recommend matching wines for every course. We opted for sirloin steak and rack of lamb from the grill menu. Following our long leisurely dinner we were invited back to the Gallery bar to enjoy music by The Funky Monks. Click here to continue this article

An African Adventure
This issue we take a trip to Cape Town with the help of Pinnacle Worldwide. The thriving city of Cape Town, South Africa is the second largest city on the continent in terms of population. It was also the site of the first European settlement in South Africa, when the Dutch built a supply station there in 1652. The city of Cape Town enjoys one of the most culturally diverse populations of any city in the world with people from all nations and walks of life having immigrated here. Cape Town is also the home of the South African government’s legislative branch, and is commonly referred to as the most popular tourist destination in South Africa. It doesn’t take long to see why Cape Town has earned this title. You could stay here for months and never run out

of things to do. Cape Town enjoys a temperate climate, and a lot of people come here to lounge on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Others come to experience Table Mountain National Park, which is the site of natural
landmarks like Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope, acclaimed as the southernmost point in Africa (even though its really not!). The park is perfect for hikers, mountain climbing enthusiasts, and nature lovers. A culturally diverse
travel
population means a diverse cuisine, and here again Cape Town ranks among the best destinations in the world for rare and exotic foods. European styles mix with old Africa to produce some of the best restaurants on the
continent. Start at the Africa Cafe, or Anatoli’s for authentic African recipes that originated all over the continent. No one ever complains that the food is boring in Cape Town. The hottest tourist attraction in Cape Town is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which houses the oldest working dock in South Africa, and is also home to many different shops, museums, and art galleries. The original dock was constructed in 1860, the rest added later. It was named for Prince Alfred, and then later for his mother. At the waterfront visit the popular Two Oceans Aquarium, and Robben Island, now considered an important historical landmark. No visit to Cape Town
49
would be complete without a tour of the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The area was first set aside in 1657 when the now famous almond hedge was planted, and a forester was appointed to protect the trees and other life. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are home to some of the most beautiful and rarest plants in the world. Because of the climate, many plants and flowers have thrived here, some of which now can only be found in the gardens. Hop on a guided tour of this breathtaking place, or you can walk through the trails on your own. Click here to continue this article

What You’ll Need: • SPAR Own Brand Premium Beef Burgers • Pinch of chilli flakes • A few spoonfuls of chutney, or grated cheese • 1 Egg (if needed for binding) • Blue Cheese • Mini burger buns (or regular, cut to size with a pastry cutter) • Salad for dressing
51 How To Make: Mix the burger meat, chilli flakes, chutney or cheese in a bowl with your hands, making sure everything is bound together. At this stage add the egg if you feel the mixture is too dry. Take sections of the mixture and make a ball the size of a golf ball – at this stage you could push a little cheese (blue cheese adds a wonderful surprise) into the centre of the ball and then seal the top and gently flatten with the palm of your hand. Chill in the fridge to help firm before cooking. If you can’t get mini burger buns, you can cut the regular buns into size with a pastry cutter (just blitz the leftovers into breadcrumbs and freeze for a later date). Enjoy: Assemble the burgers in the mini buns after cooking with your choice of salad and sauce and secure with a cocktail stick. SPAR has a new range of summer essentials that will guide you through the BBQ season with value, creativity and of course, mouth-watering tastes! This is just one of the fabulous recipes from experienced chef Gil Marrs who has created some delicious salads, mains and desserts using the summer eating products available at your local SPAR store, all of which have been locally sourced from suppliers and farmers, and are sure to inspire your own alfresco creations.

Up Close & Personal Jason Clarke
and watch the wings thinking they’re going to fall off.
Relaxation is… The one thing I wish I was better at! I find it almost impossible to switch off. Music is the closest I come to relaxing; be it lifting the guitar to write a song, or sunbathing with the earphones in while listening to a good record.
What are you best at?
I’ve worked very hard on my songwriting since I found the love for it at 18. I’ve written over 100 songs now. I’m also quite sporty and like to cook.
What do you value in a partner?
An up and coming singer/ songwriter from Belfast, Jason Clarke began making a name for himself in the Northern Ireland music industry and beyond with his debut single ‘Gotta Go’ in 2012. The single received over 30,000 views online within a month and later, his own unique spin on Shakin’ Steven’s ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ - which he filmed at night on Belfast’s Royal Avenue - ranked up over 10,000 views in December 2012 in just a matter of days. His latest single ‘Loving You’, released on 3rd June 2013, received over 2,000 hits online in just 48 hours.
Who are you closest to? As an only child, I am very close to my parents. I consider my dad to be my best mate. I’m very fortunate to have a circle of very tight knit friends too.
What is your earliest memory?
The first time I went swimming when I was one. My mum used to hold me in the water on her hand. I hated it, though love the water now.
What is your biggest fear?
Being in a plane crash. I used to love flying, but now I have heart palpitations every time I hit a pocket of turbulence. I sit
I think a partner has to be like one of your best mates, and someone that you can feel truly comfortable with. For me, it’s important to give each other space, and to have social circles outside of the relationship.
What will shock us?
I studied in Edinburgh for five years, and earned myself a 2:1 in Estate Management (Property Development and Valuation). How completely non-musical!
When did you last feel really happy?
A few days ago I received a call asking me to come to Norway Click here to continue this article
